Two men finished the job in less than two hours. They were fantastic. They re-routed cables, and hooked up my system PROPERLY so that all my audio sources are routed through my 8 channel speaker system. My home theater works, looks, and sounds fantastic after they finished up. They were very conscientious, asking me how I wanted things hooked up, where to place the components, etc. I was very happy with their work and would highly recommend them!
Description of Work: First off, I used the Best Buy location in Northbrook, on Willow Road, near Waukegan Road...it wasn't listed on Angie's List. I used the Geek Squad service to clean up "spaghetti wires" behind my home theater system. Two men finished the job in less than two hours. They were fantastic. They re-routed cables, and hooked up my system PROPERLY so that all my audio sources are routed through my 8 channel speaker system. My home theater works, looks, and sounds fantastic after they finished up. The experience was fine however, I am not sure the staff knows what they are doing. The Geek Squad was totally knowledgeable, and helped me find a virus protection program.

I had a very good experience, if the sales people had gotten any friendlier with me I would have taken them home. The delivery was on time and the set up went great.
Description of Work: I bought a new television set from them.

I felt like there was a good selection here but not enough information on each of the computers. The professionalism of the staff was okay but nothing special. The computer has been excellent, though.

They were running a sale so we bought it at Best Buy. The experience went well. I took it back this year to their Geek Squad because I was having some issues with the Internet and the computer was being slow. They did a good job of servicing it and it's working well now.

The experience went well. They are pretty good and we took it back this year, just before Christmas, to their geek department because I wanted it checked over and I was having trouble picking up remote access to the internet like at stores or the library. Also, it was clogged up with a lot of junk that I have been getting through my e-mail. So they did a good job of servicing it and it is working well now.

They ve always done a good job. I found them in a phone book and the experience turned out well. They were here when they were supposed to. They came back until they got the problem solved. They hooked up a wireless computer system plus one other time I had trouble with a printer, and the end result we ended up buying a new all-in-one printer and they hooked that up, which ended up working just fine after that.
Description of Work: I did use them twice for computer repair and services.

Since I paid extra for the Best Buy service plan when I bought this HP laptop, I brought the computer into Geek Squad when the problem originally occurred (August). I was told that it would take "a couple of days" to diagnose the problem. Two and a half weeks later I got a call saying that they thought the problem was a defective hard-drive controller and that they would have to send it out (to HP, since it is still under warranty) for repair. That took another two weeks. We got a call saying that they needed to re-install the OS when the computer was returned from HP, which should take "a day or so". I think that was another week. We picked up the computer when they called to tell us that it was ready, got it home, and found that the same start-up problem was there. Geek Squad hadn't even tried to start the computer before calling us. We took the computer back and I believe it was at that point that it turned out that the OS (Windows Vista) had not been re-installed as promised. A week later we got the computer back again and tried to restore the application files from the back-up discs that they burned for us, and found that the discs were corrupt. Back to Geek Squad again. Apologies - "we'll expedite service" - a week and a half later and no calls from GS (are you beginning to get the picture here?). Next round was, "We can't fix it, but we should be getting in a Restore disk tomorrow that we'll use to try to get your application files back. We screwed up the back-up." Another week and a half of no calls from GS. There were some other trips back and forth on this thing also in this time period, but all of the frustrating details escape me at the moment. We were about seven weeks out now from the original problem. By the way, as we were standing in line waiting for service, we heard two other customers complaining about a similar experience with GS, only in one case they had their computer for 3 months and in the other case 4 months (out of the 7 months that she owned the computer!), so ours is obviously not an isolated incident. Finally, fed up with dealing with these guys and having no faith that they know what they were doing, I demanded my computer back. I had resigned myself at that point to having lost the photos, music, etc.(they refunded the $100 back-up fee). We got the computer home and started to re-load applications, including a new one that would automatically back up all files to a portable hard drive, and guess what! The files that they had been able to restore are corrupted! They hadn't even run a Disk Check after the restoration to see if the restored files were OK! Conclusions: These people do sloppy work, consistently over-promise and under-deliver, and have no sense of customer service. I will never buy another computer from Best Buy and would recommend that if for some reason you do, opt for the manufacturer's service plan instead of BB/GS.
Description of Work: Original problem was that the computer would not start up and could not self-correct the problem using Start-Up repair (ScanDisc). Subsequent problem was that once the Start-up issue was (supposedly) resolved, it was found that Geek Squad had improperly backed up all of our files, such that all of the application files (photos, music, videos, documents and presentations) were lost.

Geek Squad/Best Buy provide excellent on-site computer repair service. They aren't cheap but their work certainly justifies the price. The young man who came was very polite and professional. When the memory card quit working 2 days later, he came back promptly and replaced it at no charge.
Description of Work: They came to my home and got my computer working after it froze and the screen went blank. They put in a new memory card and a DVD drive.

Having had considerable difficulty installing a functional wireless home DSL network (partly because of incorrect information from on-line tech support), I went to the Best Buy store in Deerfield and explained problem to a Geek Squad rep. To my pleasant surprise, he told me he would follow me home. He arrived within 15 min, went right to the units in different rooms in our home, and quickly got the system working, explaining how the on-line tech support had been misleading. The system is working well thanks to him.
Description of Work: Setting up a wireless home DSL network. The work cost more than $50 but I don't remember how much and I had to put something in the field before I could send this. I paid their standard price for in-home service that was very reasonable.
