This is the second time we have hired them. They did excellent work! Jonathan and another man completed the work. They arrived right at the time that they said they would. They had a great sense of humor! They were clean, nice, and very professional. They did a very good job. I would't hire anyone else but them for additional work.

Jonathan came to give us an estimate and was very professional and personable. He was very honest with us about the extent of the work needed to bring the job up to our standards. We chose to do the minimum with him that we could to save money but also for them to do the 'hardest' of the painting tasks. He and his crew were there when they said they'd be there and were done when they said they'd be done, and they do impeccable work. I literally am going to call them again right now to finish more trimwork (because I've grown tired of doing it myself!) and I completely trust them to be in my home doing work while I'm not there. Also, Jonathan worked to fit us into his schedule so that our entire renovation timeline wouldn't be thrown off, so that was great. They're in demand, but he worked things out for us!

We had a fantastic experience with Jonathan and Touchstone Painting. My husband and I were extremely pleased with the process from start to finish. We got estimates from 3 different companies each varying slightly in price but we were won over by the reasonable price and the attention to detail Jonathan had. When he came over to look at the job, he asked many questions, took pictures, discussed potential increases in price (like wallpaper removal) and in general was much more thorough than the other two. When we decided to schedule, Jonathan was very open with communicating to us scheduling conflicts. It turned out that our ideal date to start the work (because of our vacations) conflicted with the time he'd be out of town. He gave us the option to start the work and have his foreman in charge while he was out of town or wait to start the job. We decided to just go ahead and start it. Jonathan came by again a second time to go over the details of the job and communicate this to Josiah and also to look at an addition we had to the original estimate. Our project took 3 1/2 days to complete. Josiah and Jon did a masterful job in painting the rooms in our home. They were kind, respectful to our home and to our 3 young kids running around and very pleasant to work with. We felt at ease leaving them alone in our home while we were coming and going. They were meticulous in every aspect of the job from prep to clean up. You could tell they prided themselves on the quality of their work and it shows in the final product. The walls look fantastic and I couldn't really find any misplaced paint or blemishes on them after they were done. Josiah even went the extra mile to answer a concern I had about our kitchen ceiling that sometimes showed a water stain. After some discussion he thought it might be coming from our upstairs tub and even checked the seams of the tub voluntarily. Overall my husband and I can't say enough about the quality of the work that Touchstone provided to us. Jonathan and his crew were extremely easy to communicate with and they do everything with excellence. They showed great love for their work and the skills to execute the job properly. We would glady recommend them to any of our friends and neighbors and would be happy to hire them again for future work.

Not only was the painting outstanding, Jonathan made a suggestion on the color he thought may work well for this project. I am so thankful that he takes such pride in his work because the color he suggested is perfect! Looking forward to having this team return and paint the rest of our home.

Fantastic experience. These guys are very professional and did a great job. They showed up on time, worked hard and got the job done for a reasonable price (mid-range compared to other estimates). Johnathan is easy to communicate with, responsive and overall a delight to deal with. Even after I chose a color I didn't like, he took it in stride and made sure everything was fixed to perfection. This was one of the easiest contractors I have ever worked with. Did I mention that there work is great too? Very neat, clean lines and looks amazing. The patching/ wall repairs they did are flawless. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend this company.

Very professional. Excellent work. My house had been damaged by tenants, and after Touchstone completed the job, it looks like a brand new house.

We completed a fairly extensive update on our first floor involving gutting the kitchen and 1/2 bath, new flooring and base/crown in the entry way, coat closet, living room, and dining room. In the midst of our work, we realized the two-story open foyer and second-floor hallway had been wallpapered at some point, and prior owners had painted over it with the result being bubbling paper (not a pretty look!). The thought of removing that wallpaper was daunting at best, and not something we wanted to tackle on our own after already stripping wallpaper from (literally) every room in the house except the TV room, which is paneled. We additionally had unpainted areas from previous projects that need to be dealt with: basement stairwell walls and stair stringers, second floor stair railings and hallway walls. When Jonathan from Touchstone Painting came out to bid the job, he asked a lot of questions, and took pictures and a lot of notes, which resulted in a detailed and thoughtful bid in an al a carte fashion so we could elect to not do a particular part of the job if time or money became an issue. After reviewing our experience with all the contractors who came out to bid and who provided quotes, we were very comfortable with Jonathan and felt confident Touchstone would do great work at a fair price. We were not disappointed! Ours was a six day project and Josiah and Jonathan arrived as scheduled each day, and left the work area tidy when they left at the end of the day. I was very impressed with their professionalism and their skill in executing the work. Josiah is truly an artist! He works fast, and is absolutely masterful in applying the paint. I am relatively picky and can see every flaw--Josiah's lines are perfect! Our paint selection includes dark walls and light trim, so any crooked line would stand out, but the lines are absolutely flawless! After working with Touchstone, I will never again complete any painting job myself, but rather call them to do so. I recommend them with no reservations at all. Awesome experience working with them!

Great experience with Touchstone! Jonathan and Josiah were both pleasant, hard working and very detail oriented. Could not be happier with the work they did! The wallpaper in the bedroom did not come off easy, therefore he had to charge more for the extra labor. However, originally the kitchen ceiling repair was to be just spot painted, but we changed our minds to have the whole ceiling repainted. Jonatahn said he felt bad that the wallpaper took so long so he didn't charge for extra labor in the kitchen. I thought that was more than fair and showed integrity!!

I was living in Arizona when I contracted for interior painting of my house in Grayslake; I had visited the house in 01/2012 and determined that some painting was needed, especially on the exterior. I was planning to move back to Grayslake on 10/2012 and wanted the painting done while the house was still vacant. I had received an estimate from my community association which also provides painting. I then logged on to Angie's List and found Touchstone which had many "A" ratings. I contacted Jonathan Richards via email to get things going and he provided a free estimate; Touchstone's estimemate was lower than my community association's so I contracted with them. A neighbor of mine who lived a few doors down the street monitored the work. I kept in contact with her and she told me she was favorably impressed with Touchstone's work. When I arrived in Grayslake, I inspected the work. Home Interior: Well done Quality Grade A I should have had the ceilings done as they appear a bit dingy compared to the walls. Exterior Areas Front Porch, Perimeter of Garage Door, Mailbox Post: All painted areas looked good. There is a rock bed beneath the front of the porch. Some of the rocks had green paint spots indicating that whoever painted the porch didn't use a drop cloth. I will need to either try to remove the paint spots from the rocks or replace the rocks, Quality Grade A-. Had I not fount paint spots in the rock bed, I would have graded the Quality A The work was completed in a timely manner. Punctuality Grade A Professionalism: My neighbor who monitored the work gave a grade of A. Overall Experience A ****************** REVIEW UPDATED 04/14/2013 *********************************

Jonathan and his crew are intelligent and skilled. Four painters including Jonathan painted for nearly 5 days and they arrived on time each day and worked long hours. The trim is perfect and the wall colors are deep and true. The edge lines with the ceiling are straight. Jonathan was of great help with picking the right colors too. They are detail-oriented and friendly. The total cost matched the estimate. We are very pleased that we picked Touchstone and paid a little more, to get a lot more quality and value for our home. Benjamin Moore paints are his choice and are worth it. Jonathan also gave us recommendations for a snow plow removal service and handyman and home cleaner - he goes out of his way to help. We will use them again to paint the outside of our home in the future.

We called the owner, Jonathan, and left a voicemail message. He called us back right away and was able to come over the next day for a quote. Jonathan was extremely professional, personable, and it was very apparent right away that Jonathan is truly an expert at his craft. We had several painters come in for quotes to paint our entire house (1,920 sq ft) & Jonathan's attention to detail, compared to the other painters, was truly amazing. He was much more detailed than the other painters and was able to point out many things that the other painters had missed. Although his quote was higher (by about $2,000) than the other quotes that we received, it was apparent to us that you get what you pay for. There is no doubt in our mind that Jonathan would have been the most thorough with the paint job & we would have been more pleased with Jonathan's finished product, versus anyone else that we would have chosen. He seems to really take pride in his work...his motto is, "We love our work, you will too." After meeting Jonathan and seeing how thorough he was just with the quote, I believe his motto rings true. We would definitely consider utilizing Touchstone Painting for our paint project in the future, whenever we are able to work painting back into our budget. After meeting Jonathan, we know that if we want our home painted by who we think would be the best, then Jonathan would be our man. Even though his price was higher, in our opinion, it's worth it to spend the extra money to have your home painted by someone who will do an amazing job and obviously takes pride in their work.

We couldn't recommend Touchstone Painting highly enough! They have partnered with us on two separate occasions. In all of our interactions, they have been extremely conscientious, responsive and courteous. Touchstone does extremely high quality work. You can pay more, but you won't find better! Specifically: - Their prep work is second to none which is key to a good paint job - They maintain a clean job site and leave the work areas immaculate after they are done - They do all of the little extras, like minor repairs and obtaining extra scaffolding, which reduce hassle for the homeowner - They work at pace and charge a fair price.

Jonathan was forthcoming with ideas and suggestions I wouldn't have even thought of that were pertinent to the work I wanted done. For example, I wanted the ceiling painted but there was a section where I had painted decorations on the ceiling that I wanted to keep. He came up with a great idea to blend the new ceiling paint to the old without there being a blatant line showing the difference between the old and new sections. I don't have my house painted very often and I'm not an interior designer so I like to ask for opinions on a few things. I got three estimates for this job and I asked each of the painters' opinions on things. Two people gave me a shoulder shrug and the "whatever you want, just let me know" line. When I aksed Jonathan for his opinion, he gave it with the expectation that the final choice was up to me, but at least I got a fresh perspective and some great ideas. I appreciated his flexibility when I asked if he could paint some rooms a different color than originally planned more than half way through the process. He had already picked up all the paint by that point and I was waffling. Again, I asked for his input and I'm very pleased with the result. It was worth paying for the extra paint. There was a bit of trim in my foyer area that didn't match the rest of the house and Jonathan offered to replace it at an hourly charge. I wouldn't have thought of it and it made a big difference. He really wanted my house to look as good as possible. The finished job is exceptional in my opinion. I've actually moved bookcases out of the room because they covered too much of the newly painted wall. All furniture and such was put back appropriately and care was taken in cleaning up at the end of each day. I will be calling him later this year to paint the other rooms.

We have worked with Jonathan (owner) on many occasions for various projects, including drywall repair. In fact, he has painted much of our house. I used to enjoy painting until I saw how fast and well done Jonathan's work really is. It's just not worth my time any more. We called Jonathan a week in advance of the date of service and he squeezed us in, thankfully. On this occasion Jonathan sent Vance, an experienced crew member. The work took two days due to the extensive nature of the drywall repair. By the end of the second day the work was complete and the walls looked amazing. The drywall repair is completely hidden and the quality of the paint job was, as always, excellent.

Jonathan was thoroughly professional from start to finish. He was punctual, respectful and listened to my needs when giving the estimate. He paid attention to my request for low VOC paints and actually recommended a brand that he says he uses exclusively for that very reason. The painting and repair work by he and his associate was flawless. They completed the job in less time than anticipated, were able to accommodate the needs of my infant for a nap, and did an exemplary job in painting with a high quality product. I wouldn't hesitate to use Touchstone again and recommend them to others.

Jonathan came and took pictures, and promptly prepared a detailed estimate. We wanted to have the job done before Thanksgiving, and they rearranged their schedule to fit us in. They called us with plenty of notice before coming, told us how to best prepare, arrived on time, did a great job of repairing walls (even fixing a lot of things that were done poorly by the original builder), and cleaned up after themselves. They were very pleasant with me and my family. I will sum it up this way, these guys do excellent work! They exceeded my expectations. I would use them again in a heart beat, and I would wholeheartedly endorse them. Well done, gents!

This is 2nd time I've used Touchstone for interior painting. They did such a good job on the rooms on the 1st floor, I had them come back to do the 2 story foyer and upstairs hallway. Josiah did all the painting this time and did an excellent job. It looks amazing. Jonathan and Josiah were as professional as the last time. Not only do they pay attention to detail in the painting, the cleanup was also impressive.

Jonathan responded promptly to my request for an estimate to have water stain repaired on our ceiling. Once in our home, I also asked for a quote for repairing additional drywall problems as well as painting. He was professional and very accommodating. He supplied a written estimate quickly. We still asked for another change and he also responded promptly for another written estimate. We were very impressed with how easy it was to contact him and how responsive and accommodating he is to any changes that we asked for. Jonathan was very forthcoming about his schedule and when he could do the work. He gave us clear expectations about when the work would begin and when it could be completed. He kept in contact with us while waiting for the project to begin. I was having trouble making a decision about paint color for a challenging room, and I asked him for help. He quickly and graciously recommended a decorator that he has worked with that could help me choose the proper colors. I took his advice and was very pleased with his decorator recommendation. After meeting with the decorator, I went with color choices that were more involved than originally stated in the contract. Again this was not a problem for Jonathan to accommodate. Jonathan took extra care in investigating the best type of paint to use over our old oil-based doors and molding so that there would not be yellowing of the new paint over time. Once work began, respectful care was taken to protect the furnishings and newly finished stair railing. We were notified as to the time the work would begin each day. Touchstone Painting worked hard, cleaned up after each day's work and I was amazed at how much they accomplished each day. The finished product is absolutely amazing. No one would know where all the problems on the walls and ceiling had been. The painting job is absolutely beautiful. Josiah from Touchstone Painting is a very gifted craftsmen. I have never seen such attention to detail and such a fine painting job. This is especially impressive considering the poor condition our walls and ceiling were in. I would highly recommend them for any job.

Jonathon at Touchstone kept me updated on when the work could be scheduled and the workman was here exactly when he said he would be. The quality of the work was fabulous. You cannot tell at all that there was a problem with the drywall previously. The drywall repair was painted and the painting work was terrific also. I was surprised at his mentioning that I should give the workman a check and the workman repeating it. I almost had to be out when the work was done and I wouldn't have been comfortable paying until I saw the finished job. Overall the work was fabulous, Jonathon was very to work with and I would definitely use Touchstone again.

The work was fantastic and worth every penny. Best painting job I've experienced in my life. My wife accuses me of being too picky of tradesmen work. Touchstone Painting passed with flying colors. I couldn't find a flaw anyplace to my amazement. What a great feeling. It's pricey if you don't know the quality of work. But, when you do know the craftsmanship is superb, you really don't mind the price. Would hire this company again. After the new house settles a bit, will have Touchstone painting do the entire inside of the house after the nail pops are done doing their thing.

Touchstone Painting provided a prompt estimate of both the cost of the work and the available schedule. They took pictures of the areas in which we needed work and that gave us confidence that he intended on building a quality estimate. Touchstone performed work in many different areas of our house as well as outside and on many different materials--walls and ceilings, decorative wood, trim wood, garage doors, etc. Each and every portion of the job was done perfectly. In addition to Touchstone's quality of work, the project came in on time and on budget. We will turn to Touchstone for any additional work we have and will recommend them to anyone who needs work done. The job could not have been performed better (and we are picky).
