In preparation of selling our old house, the landscape needed much work. We had an old pool hole in the backyard that needed filled and seeded as well as the premiter of the house around the side and front needed regraded and sloped away from the house. Josh came out and looked over the site and took down information he needed to prepare a bid. The bid process took a couple of weeks, but came back very reasonable. In the time frame from sending back the bid to the job being completed I had a patio and sidewalk replaced. The contractor who did that work actually left quite a bit of debris behind, which Altered Grounds noticed when they came out to mark the project area. As a courtesy we met again to go over the debris and some additoinal work they could help with to clean the debris and regrade other areas with the excess dirt they would have. A week or so later and I receive an email from Josh saying the job was completed. I was completely amazed by how good it looks. I couldn't imagine having done that myself either.
Description of Work: backfill low areas with dirt, and do cleanup work and landscaping

The last thing that the provider said to me when he was leaving after giving me an estimate was to let him know if I had any questions. Unfortunately, I had a couple of minor questions and one major issue I wanted to make sure he was aware of prior to beginning work. I left him one e-mail and two voicemails (three separate days). Upon trying to reach him the third time via phone, I finally reached him live. I told him my concern and he said he would have to check the situation and call me back (he confirmed he had my work number). I was waiting all day for that return call (because as I had mentioned to provider, I was hoping to have work done before Memorial Day) that never came. I called (fourth call) again the same day before I left work & he answered his phone. I asked him if he had a response for me and he told me he had sent me an e-mail! He was courteous and told me on the phone what I wanted to know (including a possible additonal $100 to estimate) but I couldn't believe he e-mailed me instead of calling me back. I am so disappointed. I was really impressed with him when he came out to give me the estimate. However, I think it's pretty rude and disrespectfull to not respond within 24 hours and then once you finally do respond it is not how they told you they would respond. I'm afraid this could be an ominous sign.
Description of Work: Provider gave me an estimate for a light landscaping project.

Just wanted an estimate for some basic landscaping. Took them weeks to come out. Then probably 6 weeks to do the estimate. Then we receive a voice mail that they require us to meet with them again to see what the estimate is. No thank you. I'm busy and wanted to review the estimate on my own without them standing over me. Will not be using this company.

It was a little convoluted. Someone came out to do the estimate and take pictures. However, that apparently wasn't enough to give a true estimate so I had to make time for yet another appointment for the fellow who was going to install it to look at it himself. I was a little put out by that, but once he came he seemed very enthusiastic and friendly so I got over it quickly. I asked him to bring back a sample if the stone he proposed using, and he said he would, but never came back or returned my call. Must just be a bit unorganized I guess. Too bad.
Description of Work: Came to give an estimate for some work involving laying underground pipe for our sump pump discharge, some sod replacement, and creation of one flower bed near the fence.

Wonderful! Absolutely fabulous! They were here one day got it all done. I would say, do it and work with them because they were really good. We had that so, I know these guys are good. It is pricy but worth it.
Description of Work: They built a berm and put in plants and rocks in a pod.

The owner of Altered Grounds, Josh Hickam, originally showed up for the bid on time and was very excited to tackle and give opinions on this difficult project. We have a back yard that has a severe slope down to a lake with no access on either side to bring in heavy equipment to tackle the project. We knew right away we wanted to work with Josh due to his enthusiasm and vision for this space. What started out as a back yard only project turned into a whole yard remodel. Josh spent as much time as was needed over the next several weeks so we could discuss ideas and how they could work into the project while trying to stay on budget. When the project was scheduled to start Josh told us if the weather would cooperate he could have it finished in three days time. I was very skeptical of this because of the difficulty of getting the material to the back yard and the sheer size of the project. They started the project on Friday morning, worked all day Saturday, took Sunday off, and finished the project on Monday. At one time on Saturday Altered Grounds had a total of 23 workers in our yard. We were extremely happy with the finished result and are still in awe at how quickly the project was finished and how good it looks. I would highly recommend Altered Grounds to anyone looking into a landscaping project. His employees were very friendly and they did a great job of cleaning up the site each day and after they finished.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled our entire yard. We had them tear out just about everything in the yard and redesign the space. They also put in a sea wall and about 80 small boulders were placed on the back slope in a natural looking arrangement to blend in with the plantings and other structures placed.
