I'm in the process of getting proposals for a bathroom remodel. My initial experience with Chicagoland Finest was not the best as no one showed up for the scheduled appointment. I called back and rescheduled though as they do have a very good reputation on Angie's List and so I wanted to find out what happened. I also still wanted to get an estimate, especially if the missed appointment turned out to be an honest mistake, which I think it was. I did get an estimate very quickly and must say that I wish all contractors provided such detailed, thorough, and well written estimates. I actually have not seen estimates before which listed prices on individual line items so that clients know exactly how much everything will cost. When it comes to full disclosure and transparency Chicagoland Fines definitely is very good. I can only assume that's a big part of why they are rated high on Angie's List. We are still reviewing our options and are not yet ready to make a decision. Since I got a number of good proposals it will not be an easy choice.

I missed the first scheduled estimate because I never wrote it down. It was my fault. I thought I will remember about it, but I did not. I was able to re-schedule two days later. I did send detailed estimate to [member name removed] within 2 days since we went through his project plans and ideas about the Master Bathroom. I tried to make out to him for missing first appointment and replied with pricing as soon as I could. I still hope he will hire me to do the work.

It was excellent. They did everything we asked them. We had to change the design a couple times because of the way the bathroom was framed out and our original plans did not work so we worked with them and we came up with an idea that we all agreed on and we really liked. It was a really good experience. It was quality work. If there was something they needed they had no problem asking us or telling us what we going on. They were upfront, told us what needed to be done and did it.

I need to start from the beginning. Around 2/13 my son needed to have some remodeling work done on his kitchen, I found DAREK on ANGIES LIST. He gave us a quote that was very reasonable and performed everything that was required. Him and his crew were extremely professional, excellent craftsman, detail oriented, neat and I could go on and on. So it was clear that when my son experienced some major problems in his bath{ read OLD HOUSE} we immediately called DAREK. He came out promptly and he and my son and his wife went over and over what was to be done and after several suggestions from DAREK in regards to eliminating future problems the work started. The total bathroom was basically gutted and rebuilt . Tub, walls, floor, ceiling, plumbing, electrical, tile. You need to know that I am one extremely detail oriented person and retired tradesman. I totally remodeled my kitchen to a professional level for my wife, the CHEF. The work performed by Darek and his crew, especially ISSAC, was beyond compare. My son and his wife were estatic. Iwas totally impressed with the job they did and their work ethic as the work went through the Christmas Holiday. I will readily call them again should I or my son need any work done!
Work was done professionally with full notice taken of my wishes and preferences. Darek is easy to talk to and work with and Isaac and the other workers do everything to a high standard. I gave a B for punctuality because work on projects elsewhere sometimes meant that a day was skipped with no notice given or lame excuse provided but this was forgiven because of the excellent work they did. Primary language spoken between the workers was Polish or Spanish with English as secondary language (so I couldn't understand what they were saying) and talking over the phone or in person was a better means of communication than emails. Previously they also renovated the bathroom (see review dated 8/13/2012) and kitchen (see review dated 12/22/2012). Overall was very satisfied with Chicagoland Finest and would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: Renovated bedroom and living/dining room. This involved complete demolition followed by wood framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, painting, electrical, some plumbing, and building shelves.

It was a 3rd project for [member name removed], and I think the most challenging. The whole leaving room was taken down, with new framing, new lights, new flooring put in. We build custom cabinets to accommodate over 2500 CDs, DVD, and separate custom cabinet for hundreds of books. We had to seal off water leak from outside and spray paint wood window shutters. (if painted by brush it would take me forever). I like to work with [member name removed], he is a very good customer of mine, and I did everything I could to keep him happy. I wish he had more work for me, but it seems we had remodeled his place completely. Thank you for your business [member name removed].

It was a slow process. They were so busy with other jobs that they couldn't always get to us everyday. The job went two weeks over the estimate and some work had to be deferred due to parts not coming in. I can't say enough about Darek and his team. They are so good at what they do and they can do anything. I loved working with Isaac and yarek especially. We love working with Darek as well but didn't see him enough on this job. I guess the best thing I can say about this company is that we have used them for three bathroom remodels, two kitchen remodels and turning an unused room in the basement into a workshop. We would not hesitate to recommend them and use them again.

I have to admit this job took longer. That month I was more busy then any other. But I always called [removed members name] and let them know if I could not show up. I have only 3 employees, if one of them not show it was difficult to keep my promises. (Yarek's son was born early that month, and as a premature baby he was in hospital pretty much every day for the whole month). I worked on 2 other projects at the same time, leaving me no choice but not to show sometimes). I try always keep my customers happy - this is my legacy, and there was no different with [removed members name].

Chicago's Finest was terrific. Darek and another handyman worked hard and efficiently during the time they were at my house. I bought the Big Deal which was a handyman for a day or two handymen for half a day. They put together a double bed from scratch, replaced 3 door knobs with new ones, took off a defunct thermostat and mended the walls so there was no sign of the holes and repaired and rehung a bifold door. Darek had great attention to detail and I was very happy with the result.

Great experience from start to finish. Darek and his team were always very thorough, professional and punctual from the initial bid through the completion of the work. Communication was always very good, and we definitely ended up with a better bathroom remodel thanks to input by Dark and his team. Total job took just about two weeks. They showed up every day and worked straight through the day (I work at home, so I'm positive on that point). Quality of the work was excellent.

They did a terrific job. They were punctual, professional and (most importantly) very clean! We have had drywall work before that left a huge mess. But Darek made sure to use appropriate liners and plastic to trap the dust. The quality of the work was excellent.
Description of Work: Darek and his colleagues repaired our ceiling after a roof leak. They also built a new wall and moved electrical components in our living room for a built-in cabinet and shelving system.
We love our new bathroom and enjoyed working with Darek and his team! They are extremely hardworking individuals who care about the quality of their work. They were always on time, laid their tarps on the floor for protection and cleaned up at the end of the day. Darek also secured brown paper on our hardwood floors that led to the back door. There were many small details professionally handled and communicated successfully with the customer. Examples would include, moving toilet water pipe up 6 inches so as not to look awkward on the tile baseboard, applying a rubber coating over the durock before installing the tile, resolving difficult electrical problems typical in an old bungalow and assisting on purchasing correct bath tub fixtures. With Derek's help, the bathroom became a quality, lasting project that added value to our house. We will use Chicagoland's Finest again when we rehab our basement bathroom. If Darek & team are busy with other projects at that time, we will hold off until he can accommodate us because his team is DEFINITELY worth the wait!!
Description of Work: Total gut/rehab of bathroom. Included demolition, drywall, replacement of window (was originally glass block), installed exhaust fan (never had one before) rewired electrical and added new outlets. Installed new soaker tub, grab bar (reinforced studs to accommodate), toilet, vanity, faucets, mirror, towel racks and lights. Subway-tiled entire shower area, including delicately detailed, framed shower niche (which Darek created to our specs), mosaic accent trim. Also tiled remainder of bathroom that included chair rail, pencil trim, baseboard, and primed/painted wall above. Finished a great grout job using difficult to work with epoxy grout. Completed very hard to install marble floor. Also installed a new electrical outlet in middle of bedroom wall for TV.

I work with [removed member name] and [removed member name] for the first time. They waited over the year before they made final decision to rehab their bathroom. Their call was a surprise for me, we met again and discussed details about the bathroom. Overall the project went smoothly, and was able to finish it in timely fashion. [removed member name] was a big help, trying to get us everything we needed. We had to wait just few days for an accent glass tile which was installed inside the shampoo cubby. They used a top quality materials - I'm sure their bathroom will last and they will enjoy it many years from now. If my customers are happy - I'm happy.

Darek and his crew were great. The attic looks fantastic! They arrived on time and always cleaned up any mess. They were polite and answered any questions. Darek accomodated a couple of changes and was up-front about any additional costs to us. We had one small snafu that Darek resolved quickly and to our complete satisfaction. I have already recommended Chicagoland Finest to family and friends and I will continue to do so.
Description of Work: After we had spray foam insulation installed in our attic, Darek and his crew installed wood framing and drywall to enclose the insulation. They also built 3 half-doors so that we can access the areas behind the kneewalls and built a railing near the stairs.

In short, things went HORRIBLE. I walked Darek through what needed to be done AND had my interior designer do the same. Hecame in at $4,000, called me once to get my authorization to purchase extra paint, which he told me would be approximately $150, but then he came back with an additional $4,000 in extras. Yes, 100% more than we initially agreed upon, true “bait andswitch.” - We were told the project would take 4 days, it took in excess of 4 weeks, delayed our house being placed on the market and we have now had to hire someone to come in and clean up some of the work that he performed or failed to perform. - They were no shows many days, leaving our home in disarray or came in late in the evening, 3 pm – 5 pm interrupting our evening, yes we have kids, the youngest 2-years old; he didn’t care- Their workmanship is okay, not superior.- I had to pay $300, 3 times to have someone come in to clean up behind them- I asked that he provide receipts for all materials allegedly purchased; I stillhave not received them- I called him throughout the project, he never called me back- He told me his preference was to text, I texted, he never responded to my textmessages- He added in many extras, but did not acknowledge the many things that he agreed todo, but did not- They cut corners, i.e., were supposed to replace a ceiling in my daughters room due to some water damage, they simply taped the old dry wall – no he did not adjust the price downwardMy husband contacted Darek to ask that he come back and finish/correct some of the work that he needed to finish up. His response was, only if you pay me. So, in short, no I would NEVER hire Darek to perform work for me again.
Description of Work: We contracted with Darek to get our house ready to go on the market: our home is 5 years old. He was to do some: dry wall patching/replacing replacement of some windows sill/frames touch up painting throughout home light carpentry

I dealt most of the time with a husband, she was never home - working. He kept adding extra stuff. We were hired to fix and replace rotted wood around the windows and fix damaged drywall in the basement. We did all that in timing fashion. And then they started showing me more stuff to finish, I fixed all cracked corners throughout the house (taping, patching & painting) - 3 floors up and I should not to ask to pay me for my time? She simply took advantage of me - Big time. She never pay me outstanding balance of $650. All work was approved by her husband, but she was never informed about all this extra work we did. They had on-going leak from outside, which slows us down, I had to remove twice new trim around the window, and painted again (trim and wall), etc., and leave it open until masonry guys fixed the leak, and of course she is not taking this under consideration. I would never do the work for them ever. This is last time I'm doing a work on south-side.

Darek arrived on time for our scheduled estimate, and that's about the extent of the positivity from this visit. He took his measurements, had no idea what we meant when we asked about a tray ceiling and said we would have a proposal a week later. After that week had passed I called to follow up, I was told he was waiting on a tradesman for some aspect of the estimate. Since then, we haven't received ANYTHING from him, no call, no email...nothing. This took place mid December. I'm not sure where this company is getting such rave reviews. The professionalism leaves much to be desired, and the lack of knowledge was a definite put-off. 3/28/13-I just now have gotten around to reading Darek's response. To clarify: I was NEVER told he would not take on the job. Our last conversation consisted of him telling me he was waiting to hear back from the sub-contractor. Didn't want to do the job because of additional cost? Sad excuse for not following through. Those costs would have come out of my pocket! Considering he didn't know what a Tray ceiling is, I'm pretty confident in saying we were better off not hiring this company. I guess good customer service is a thing of the past, and this guy thinks free estimates mean he can discard customers time and money when he feels fit.

The work which they plan to do with a ceiling required advanced framing changes, which I could not do myself. I did ask for help a sub-contractor, unfortunately he said he would not do any work without having proper drawings done first. I did not want to do it, because obviously it would be additional costs. I do perform free estimates, but I could not spend more of my time working on planing this project. I made it clear over the phone that I won't be able to do this work myself, and have to use a sub to help me out with completion of this project. I remodel inside of the houses but do not change any structure integrity of the house without appropriate drawings. I always make this clear to my customers.

The completed repair, and remodel went better than I could have ever expected. The crew consisted of 2 men as the estimate originally stated and they did an excellent job. When receiving our initial estimate they were very honest and up front with the work that needed to be done and even mentioned we might want a second opinion and an aspect they thought would be important to fix. We originally received several quotes, but Chicago Finest Inc. came in between $2,500 and $3,000 dollars less. When the work started, it was truly done professionally. The prep of the work was done with care as not to disturb any other aspects of our Condo and at the end of every day of work the area was cleaned to the point where it looked like they had never been there. They arrived every day at the time they stated, and work was completed almost exactly to the estimate stated and the time frame. We have projects in mind for the future, and these guys will be the first people we call!
Description of Work: We needed to have our condo's shower floor and walls re-done due to the shower leaking into the unit below ours. The issue had come up in the past as whomever had initally installed the shower appear to cut corners and do the work incorrectly. The leaking had occurred several times in the past, but apparently the previous condo owner only paid for the damages to the unit below and did not rectify the problem in the shower. We decided to spend the money once and for all and fix the problem.

After doing the bathroom (see review of August 13, 2012), they did the kitchen very well in four weeks. Isaac was the primary worker and he knows everything. When unforeseen issues came up, everything was explained clearly and the options were outlined. It's an old building and not in the best of shape, so more work had to be done than anticipated. The work is high quality and I've had no issues with the bathroom since they renovated it and I anticipate no issues with the kitchen. Work is guaranteed for one year, so they will fix anything that comes up in that time period. Price is very reasonable and they finish the work promptly. They are a small company, so it might take a while before they are ready to start due to prior commitments on other projects, but the wait is worth it.
Description of Work: This was a gut rehab of the kitchen. Work involved demolition, replacement of old wood studs, repair of ceiling trusses, insulation, new ceiling lights and electrical outlets, removal of leaking water pipes, rebuild of sink drain pipes to make them slope at a steeper angle, rerouting of gas pipes, installation of exhaust fan duct through the wall, drywall, laminate floor installation, kitchen cabinet installation, sink and faucet installation, ceiling and wall painting, and appliance installation.
This is the second bathroom that Chicagoland's Finest has gutted for me and they did an absolute great job again. The project was on schedule, on budget, and the quality and attention to detail was great. Darek and his crew are very kind and flexible. During the project we found an open cavity behind a wall after the demo, they were quick to improvise the plans and cut open the space to make it usable for the bathroom. Darek also values quality and happiness of his customer. He came back after the project to seal an exterior vent just to make sure it doesn't lead to any damage to his finished product. This was greatly appreciated. I will continue to use Chicagoland for future projects and highly recommend them to anyone.

(To those remodeling a condo, our advice is, do as much of it as possible while you're on vacation. It is simply too stressful to live and work in a small - or medium sized- condo, in the midst of construction.
Description of Work: Darek and his team replaced our kitchen floor, built a new counter and remodeled a small bathroom completely. Darek is a perfectionist, and we were glad he was. His two assistants were hard working and very personable, but it was Darek's skills, knowledge, quality control and supervision that were most impressive. Our only disappointment was that they could not do cabinetry work (and consequently we're still trying to solve a cabinet problem), but the tile work and the floor installation in our kitchen was flawless. We also valued Darek's honesty and his concern for helping us keep costs down. The promised deadline was slightly off, but we were told in advance that the team was also working on another project. We were happy he was able to start when he did. We would hire Darek and his team again.

Darek and his team were fantastic to work with. Overall, the price was competitive and the quality was fantastic. Although it was a bit tough to get a date nailed down with him in advance, when the work started and we needed them to come on a Saturday vs. a Friday (due to our work schedules), he and his team were extremely accommodating. The previous owner of our home must have liked the aesthetic value of having open stairways (no banisters), but we needed to close them off to prevent our daughter from falling through the holes. So we called Chicagoland Finest and a few others to get quotes on installing drywall to completely close off these spaces. Darek came out to give an original estimate, and I could tell right away that he was a perfectionist, studying and commenting how he could make the repairs look as seamless with the existing drywall as possible. Don't expect Darek to be there doing all the work himself; that being said, the people he brought in were just as detailed in the execution as he was in the estimation and everyone was extremely friendly and professional. The team arrived on time, kept the mess to a minimum, and were very thorough in making sure to keep drywall dust from spreading all over the house. I was impressed that they put plastic over pretty much everything! Clean up was great as well. We had previously had one other portion of the stairwell closed off in the same manner by another contractor, and I can see the seam where the drywall was installed, but not with this team's work - you can't even tell it was open before! The quality of the work was fantastic, and I would work with Chicagoland Finest again any day!
Description of Work: Installed drywall to close off open staircases on 3 levels.
I was so very happy with Darek and his crew. Every aspect of the work was professional. He and his crew were always polite and helpful. He made sure I understood what was happening every step of the way. Written estimates were held to and if anything needed to change he spoke with me and we worked on resolving it together. He worked hard to replace my original trim which was important to me, but he never promised something he did not think he could deliver. Every single thing they did was perfect. I could not complain about one thing. The kitchen is beautiful and I would hire Chicagoland's Finest again in a second. Very very happy.
Description of Work: Complete gut of a kitchen in 1928 bungalow. Removed ceiling black wall tile and existing cabinets. Removed wall between dining room and kitchen. Rerouted electrical and installed new outlets and lighting. Rerouted plumping for kitchen sink. Installed new walls (studwork and drywall) with insulation. Painted, installed tile backsplash, replaced trim, installed sink, dishwasher, stove, refrigerator.

We had kitchen cabinets in a workshop in the basement; these were all torn out and new cabinets, flooring, and ceiling were installed; in the rest of the basement all of the ceilings and insulation were replaced, and we had some other miscellaneous issues with drywall wrecked from a flood. Darek and his crew did a wonderful job of creating a beautiful workshop and made us safer by replacing old flammable insulation in the ceilings throughout the basement. This is one of many jobs that Chicagoland Finest has done for us and I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: New ceilings in the basement; complete gut and remodel of a workshop, and miscellaneous replacement of drywall, etc. in the basement.
These guys are versatile and high-quality. They can do carpentry, painting, drywall, electrical, plumbing, tiling, and installation. Two guys did it all with supervision by the owner Darek Chronowski. They gutted the bathroom, replaced the studs because they were old wood, installed cement board and drywall, laid tiles, improved the tub drain plumbing, rewired the room with copper electrical wire and installed new lights, exhaust fan, and outlet, painted the walls and ceiling, installed new tub, toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet. For the alcove, they did drywall, painting, and added new shelves. All this in about eight days of work, including overtime. My only criticism is for punctuality, because twice appointments were cancelled at the last minute and once a work day was cancelled because the guy couldn't find any parking. But overall very impressed and I hope they will do the kitchen next.
