 + -1 moreI have used The Door Store several times in the past and have always been pleased. It was a long time ago, however. Late in December, needing some storm doors, I looked at the website and found the store hours and drove there only to find that the store was going to be closed for a couple of weeks. This should have been posted on the web site. The store was to reopen on 1/15/16, and on 1/23/16 I called to see if they were open and there was no answer (after several calls) -- just a message indicating store hours that were different from those posted on the web site. However, there was no indication that they were closed today, as I was calling during store hours. There was just a message stating the hours of operation and asking me to leave a message. I assumed they were open and went to the store only to find a note on the door indicating that they were closed today. This was very frustrating and disappointing to me and I will never use this business again even though my past experience was very good. The phone message should have been changed to reflect today's closure and the website should be edited giving the correct hours of operation.

 + -1 moreExcellent. It took a while to receive the door since it was a special size. The storm door took longer than the actual door. We were happy to wait for such great results! The installation pretty much took a whole day. Jim did a marvelous job considering our 100 year old brick building had a lot of quirks. The frame had to basically be built from scratch and was connected to the adjacent window. With his experience, Jim was more than prepared to accept the challenge and completed the job with confidence. I would recommend this business to anyone in a heartbeat. I am so happy with their professionalism and ability to do a quality installation in an old building. Well worth the cost. My door is beautiful and I am so thrilled to have it!
Description of Work: Removed old door and door frame. Disconnected door from adjacent window (very old building with weird connections). Filled in gap between door and window with insulation (there was nothing but old paper towels). Built new door frame and insulated some more. Installed new door, storm door, replaced molding, placed new threshold. Installed door handle and locks.

 + -1 moreSo far we have had Jim come by to measure our door for our order and discuss the installation. I was a little worried that he would take one look and run away like the other guy, but there was none of that. He is just as much of a true craftsman as Chris. He was really able to describe the installation process in a way that no other contractor has described to me so far. I was really impressed with what he knew about our old building and the care and effort he plans to put into the installation, including insulating, adding any wood that might be needed within the walls, replacing trim, etc. I am psyched that I found these guys and am so confident after speaking to both of them that they will do an excellent job. I put down a deposit for my order without giving it a second thought and I can't wait for the finished product.
Description of Work: I live in a 1905 building with an oversized door. I have been looking for a new door for two years, never pulling the trigger and suffering cold drafts the last two winters because I didn't have confidence in anyone I spoke to and it was hard finding what I wanted in a larger size. I went to big box stores and had their subcontractors come by. I contacted recommended contractors of various door brands. One of these contractors, who is highly rated on Angie's List, took one look at my back door set-up and refused to even give me a quote! He thought I had something going on within the walls that he didn't want to deal with. I had a really hard time! From my research, I knew that who installs your door is probably even more important than the door itself. So, I basically gave up. Now I'm doing some remodeling and the door yet again became a topic of discussion. I searched online and I said, I'm driving out to the Door Store because it looks like they have tons of doors and lots of experience. I am so happy that I made the trek from the city! The Door Store not only could provide a door in the oversized size that I need, but I also knew immediately that Chris knew his trade like a true craftsman should. He could discuss my door and my old building in a way that no one else could, even when they were on site. The cost of the door and the install is actually comparable to what I found at the big box stores. Plus, they can paint the door any Benjamin Moore color.

 + -1 moreDemolition and installation went extremely smoothly. One of the doors was very challenging, but the installer, Jim, did a fantastic job on the tough door as well as the two others. He was friendly, on time and super efficient. The whole process, from selecting the doors, to painting to installation was professional and efficient. Very happy with the outcome!

Description of Work: It is incomprehensible to me that a contractor does not even return a call or message. If the job is too small or something they don't want to do - fine, just tell the customer that. Do yourself a favor and don't even bother with these people.

The installer cleaned up after himself.The price for this door was excellent compared to other doors in the area. The door is beautiful. I received a call the next day from the person who needed to paint the new finishes. Customer service very responsive to all questions.

 + -1 moreWe went to the showroom and picked out the doors from a combination of looking at the floor models and the catalog for the various options for each of the doors. An installer came out to the house to take measurements and to make note of the color of the paneling that we wanted the stain on the door to match. It took about 6 weeks for the doors to be ready to install and the weather was rather chilly on the day the crew came to install them. The crew showed up on time and were very efficient and professional in removing the old doors and performing the installation of the new ones. The inner door was stained at the time it was installed and matched quite well with the existing paneling in the room. The only issue was that the inner door had to be jiggled a little bit to lock securely but the installer was able to make the proper adjustment after which it closed and locked very well. We are very satisfied with the work and have had numerous compliments on the appearance of both doors. We would definitely use them again.

 + -1 moreI went into the door store to look for a new back door because my old door was the original on my 60+ year old home and the handle and lock could not be replaced or repaired. Chris was very helpful and explained the many styles that would work in my house. I picked a beautiful door that I did not see in any other store. I set up an appointment for them to come out and measure and not only were they on time for this appointment, but they came on time for the installation appointment as well. They installed the new back door and lock and also repaired my screen door which was only a few years old though never quite worked right , ( I purchased it and had it installed from a big box store). They went out of their way to find new parts and, if that wasn't enough, they repaired my two, heavy, bi-fold glass doors leading from my dining room to the office. If only everything was this easy! .

 + -1 moreIn the store, Chris was very helpful and patient. I did not feel rushed. Once I decided what I wanted, they came out promptly to measure. The entire project was completed within a few weeks. The painters and carpenter arrived promptly, were very professional, and did quality work. The stain on the interior of the door is a good match to the stain on the hardwood floors. There was quite a bit of carpentry work involved since the replacements were not the same size as what was there before. The carpenter did a very good job. They cleaned up afterward.
Description of Work: They removed two adjacent exterior doors and screen doors to my dining room. These were replaced with one standard size door and screen door and two side lights.

 + -1 moreThe Door Store is a great place to choose a door. They are set up like a labyrinth and if you have an idea of what you want, you can quickly find the models all in one place. Chris made the ordering easy. Someone was able to come out and measure without my being home because it was an outside door. The installer was excellent, efficient and neat. He took the time to explain every feature of the door. The door is high quality and looks great. It was a little pricier than we hoped, but that's because we needed a custom size for our older townhome.

 + -1 moreI called them after and they eventually came out. He was nice and was to provide me with an estimate. He also mentioned a few doors from another job he might be able to use. They said that they would follow up with an estimate. I called after waiting 3 weeks and spoke with his partner. He mentioned he would let him know. I called a few more times and 5 weeks later I still have not heard back with this estimate or even that they are waiting, need more details, etc. This makes it hard to count on them for a job. I liked the interaction with the man and he seemed to know what he was doing.

 + 0 moreI live in a condo. Whatever I install has to match the rest of the existing exterior texture. They were the only company that was able to provide the kind of work I needed. That was the reason I used them. The installation was really good. The construction we have was done poorly. They had to completely rebuild some areas before they could set the window out. They did a great job. We live on the third floor. I had to go up and down a lot of times. They were excellent. We spent about $2800. On the downside, it was really not their fault, they quoted a delivery and installation date that was actually a month earlier than what I wound up getting. There were a couple of issues on communication. They are not really hi tech at all. They don?t have a web site. We did not have any E-mail communication. So it was a little more difficult to contact them. However, their service was really good. I would recommend them to anyone. I had a bunch of other things going on here and it was difficult to coordinate things. They took money off for my inconvenience and it all worked out in the end. We will use this company in the future.

He was a pleasure to work with! His employees delivered the door on time, his painter matched the stain color on site perfectly, installed matching trim, etc. They were considerate, courteous, and clean. The installer even looked at a broken patio door, tried to fix it and then recommended another great company. They were the best and we are now considering the purchase of a back door. Highly recommended!
