The person showed up an hour early for the appointment and really didn't offer any reasons why Anderson windows were better then the others except that they were Anderson. When quoting the price they would take $250 off the price if we signed right away, but if they left we would loose it. I told them that this was not big incentive and once again they informed me that Anderson windows are the best. After comparing their windows to others, I disagreed and bought ones that cost 30% less and provide more features.

We've used them on several occasions for replacement windows. On every occasion the sales reps were polite, well informed and very professional. They did not try to push us into more expensive options and were interested in our getting what we wanted. The installers did excellent work and the quality of the windows is amazing. The measurements they make ensure that the windows fit the openings exactly. We have a hundred year old house and still the job went fast. They did an excellent job of removal and cleanup. We will continue to use them in the future.
Description of Work: Replaced a total of 10 windows on house. We went from double hung, to a combination of double hung, casement, and picture windows. We got rid of triple track storm/screens to a clear view look.

We had had 5 windows replaced by Andersen in October. We were SO impressed by the product AND the service, that we decided to have the remaining windows done in the spring. We had Annette out and she gave us some wise advice on window choices for "this old house," that would be appropriate and would also be thermally efficient. She understood that we would need a two-day install because there was no way we could accommodate their need to move everything away from the windows for their access. When the install was scheduled, again, the two day install was confirmed and scheduled, Too bad that didn't quite get down to the install team. I'm not sure who else they thought was here when they asked me at lunchtime on the first day to now move the remaining furniture so they could complete the 3 remaining windows for the install. I explained that this was to be a two-day install and it was news to them. After some hurried and harried phone calls, the 3 windows were placed in our garage and they left. The same crew DID return and finished the install - and did a wonderful job. I LOVE my windows. I am not sure how the miscommunication occurred, but it was not a big deal, and the product is phenomenal.
Description of Work: They replaced all remaining windows in our home. Including some very challenging ones.

The installers finished their work today, and we've been very pleased with the experience thus far. (Of course with windows, it takes some time to know how good the product is and how well it was installed. Check back with us in a year or two!) We shopped around quite a bit for our windows; some companies were cheaper, some more expensive, but what sold us on Renewal by Andersen (besides the product, which seems great) was the personal attention we received. We have two small children and we live in a house w/lead paint (built in the 1920s). We've been reluctant to deal with contractors who have downplayed our concerns about our children's health. But our contact at Renewal by Andersen (Tiana Londoff) acknowledged our concerns and worked with us to create a lead-safe installation plan. The installers were professional and conscientious about following that plan, even though it required extra time, extra personnel and, correspondingly, additional expense. This was obviously new territory for the company, as some representatives from their corporate headquarters came by the job site on the first day to photograph and document the additional steps the crew was taking. (They suggested that there's some marketing potential here. A more cynical person might think they were also protecting themselves against a potential lawsuit).
Description of Work: Replaced about 25 original windows in the part of our house that dates back to the 1920s. It was a 3-day project.

Kim Lapaglia was the salesperson I dealt with, and she was very friendly and easy to work with. She returned my calls and emails promptly throughout the process. There was a good team of folks to work with, from Kim through the scheduling department to the two installation technicians that actually did the replacements, and they were very willing to work around my schedule. They came on time and completed the work they said they would each day, over a three day period overall. They worked in early January, and took care to protect carpet and furniture and cleaned up afterwards. One window specification was incorrectly sized by the factory, but was quickly replaced and installed within two weeks. I'm very satisfied, and noticed the difference in my heating bills. Anderson windows are higher priced than competitors I talked to, but seem worth it.
Description of Work: I had all the windows replaced in my two story home, about 19 windows total. The house was built in 1948, with a few of the windows replaced by previous owners that had sealant leaking and did not insulate well, to some windows that were the original ones and were difficult to open and had rotting wood.

Andersen did a terrific job! Everyone who came to my home was extremely professional. The windows look great and the crew was neat and courteous. The best part was that I didn't have to travel all over Chicagoland looking at windows. The sales consultant came to my house and provided me with an estimate. Another gentleman came out to my house and measured. Finally, the installation crew came out and installed the windows and sliding door. I would definitely use them again.

We called Andersen for an estimate to replace four windows in our house. Cindy Miranda came to our house and gave a very detailed presentation on the company and the product (and why they're so expensive). We discussed future projects which helped her determine what type of framing would be necessary for our projects. Once we placed the order, the company kept us informed of its status and they were ready to install the windows earlier than the initial estimate. The installers were very professional and did the job quickly and were able to comply with a request for installation of brackets for a flower box. They cleaned up after themselves when the work was finished. When it became clear that the screens we received were not the ones we thought we ordered, Andersen remedied the problem and delivered the new screens very quickly.
Description of Work: We had two pairs of casement windows replaced, including all surrounding framing.

They do a great snow job. I suppose if I needed a new window (not glass) they might be a good company. I don't know. Angie's customers rate them highly. That's why I called them. But I don't think they gave me an honest assessment of the best and most economical way to solve the problem. They just want to push their product.
Description of Work: I have a leak between the two panes of glass of my window. Andersen told me I needed a whole new window--to the tune of close to $2000. However, other window companies I called told me I only needed new glass and gave me a recommendation of a glass company. I had the window repaired for $325. Far from Anderson's quote.

WE HAVE NO RECORD OF GOING TO THIS HOME SO I AM UNABLE TO ASSESS THE SITUATION AND TO SEE WHO SPOKE TO THIS MEMBER. IF THE INITIAL PHONE CALL HAD INDICATED THAT GLASS REPAIR NEEDED TO BE DONE WE WOULD NOT HAVE GONE TO THE HOME SINCE WE ARE NOT SET-UP TO REPLACE GLASS ON ANY WINDOWS OTHER THAN OUR OWN. I CAN SINCERELY SAY THAT WE ARE NOT TRYING TO "SNOW" ANYONE. WE WILL RECOMMEND THE BEST SOLUTION FOR THE CLIENT'S HOME AND WHAT WILL BEST FIT THEIR NEEDS.

The sales rep is wonderful, quick at coming out, and good at explaining everything. They had installed 17 windows, on the first floor, three years ago. They had been great. However, this time they were not that good at cleaning up. The 17 windows had cost $1365.

They really did a wonderful job; the quality of work goes well with the price. They were expensive, but they did good work. The crew members that came out were like old world craftsman and just did fabulous detailed work.
Description of Work: Renewal By Anderson installed all of the windows in my 2,400 square foot home. I'm not sure exactly how many there are, but it was every window in the house. They even turned a 6 foot window in my dining area into a 6 foot sliding French door. They replaced everything including the frames.

Overall, I was very pleased with the quality of work and products. As typical with projects this size, the first part of process meant dealing with a sales rep. With any company, I have always thought this to be the most painful step. They tend to over-promise and underestimate the scope and difficulty of the job. It was no different in this case as well. I have learned though not to judge companies by their sales reps, because most tend to be inadequate. I usually make sure to speak to the contractors and ask the hard questions when they come out to measure for the estimate. In our case, the confusion appeared on the patio door rebuild. We were given drawings and an estimate for the work. When the contractors showed up, they looked a bit confused about the scope of the job. However, they performed an incredible job. They were one of the hardest working crews I have ever seen. Quality is not a question for Anderson, Pella, Marvin, Etc. But installation matters a great deal.
Description of Work: They replaced approximately 14 windows and completely rebuilt a second floor patio doorway.

They arrived 20 minutes early. I had just arrived home myself only minutes earlier. I really wish they would call to let people know if there will be a earlier arrival/delay. Other than that, the overall experience went very well. The 2 workers were very tidy. The window was located upstairs and they had the whole stairway leading to the bedroom lined with drop cloths. The area was just as clean when they left as it was when they arrived. The window itself was installed well and looked just as expected.

I needed several windows replaced and 3 of them were extremely large windows that most companies wouldn't touch. Renewal replaced them. They even took a picture of the decorative grilles from the original dining room windows and replaced them in the same custom pattern on the new windows. My only issue was that the last person who came out before they were installed had doubts that they could do the job and never informed me that the job was accepted until I contacted them two weeks later.

This was a multi-step process which proceeded on my time-frame with little pressure from the sales staff. First, a sales person came to my home to take preliminary measurements and discuss which type of windows and installation I desired. Second, a technical specialist came, reviewed my selections, measured precisely the dimensions to be built, labeled the windows to correspond for installation, and noted special installation concerns. It would take 6-8 weeks to build my windows. During the build, an installation appointment was set. Due to my schedule, I had the windows installed 4 months after I signed my quote. The installation was confirmed a few days before. The crew arrived as scheduled. Shielding was laid down to protect my stairs and carpeting. Installation happened quickly and was done in in 8 hours. They were very neat and careful of my possessions. In fact, they left my rooms cleaner than the rooms were when the team arrived.
Description of Work: 9 casement windows and 2 picture windows were replaced with full frames, exterior caulking, new insulation, and interior Oak trim. All windows were either on the second or third story of my townhome and exactly replaced the prior windows in position and size even with various interior trim measurements. 3 windows were 5 feet high. 2 picture windows were in my stairwell over a 3 story foyer. 3 windows were installed as a single 9' unit of casement, picture, casement window on the third story over an atrium window on the second floor. The windows came with new screens, better locking mechanisms, insulation batts replaced, and improved insulation value over the original windows. As a townhome in an association I had to exactly match the exterior appearance. That was not a problem and you can't tell my windows are new when compared to my neighbors.

Received materials and a DVD to watch prior to the sales rep coming out. The sales rep, Cindy, was very pleasant and very well informed. She did indicate that renewal was probably more expensive than other bids we would receive, but they had the superior product. Decided not to use them based on cost due to the fact that we are planning on staying in the house for only 3 more years. If we planned on living here longer, we may have purchased from them as the products due seem very good.

We were disappointed in that we didn't understand what they would look like afterwards versus the full-frame replacement. But we really liked the product and they have a great warranty that extends beyond our ownership of the house. We are going to go ahead and get some other windows replaced. We set up a meeting with them that we needed to be there for. They couldn't make the scheduled time. They came but never told us they were there, but they are giving us a discount on our current job for the time and trouble.

We purchased our house knowing we would have to do a full window replacement. The original windows were steel framed casements, half of which didn't even close or function properly and had cracked glass. The hardest part of our experience was waiting the 8 weeks in a cold, drafty house for our windows to be delivered! We called Andersen because of the reviews on Angie's List, but we also interviewed contractors who sold Pella and Marvin (pretty much the top 3 manufacturers). In the end, we chose Andersen because of their product. But the company also does a fantastic job from the first sales call to the follow up. The day our windows were scheduled to be put in, it started snowing. They showed up on time and worked through a blizzard to get the job done in two days. (I didn't think that was even possible, but no snow got in our house.) The installers were 7 experienced men who I would describe as "old world craftsmen." For an investment like this, I highly recommend talking to Andersen
Description of Work: Performed a full window replacement (20 windows) in a 1930 brick Tudor style home that we just recently purchased. Used a combination of casement and double-hung with full divided light grills. White interior color, brown exterior (to match the brick). They look amazing.

The windows were installed, but the wrong mullions were sent. The company wasn't very responsive to getting the job done and seemed to drag their feet. The window was installed in July 2004 and the job was not entirely completed until March of 2005. Frost forms on the inside of the window frame when it's below zero outside. Renewal rep. John, says that this shows the window is doing its job, but I'm surprised that a window this expensive leaks cold air into the house as much as it does. They say they can't do anything about the frost.
Description of Work: Two window panel sets (each panel set had 3 windows) were replaced. The first window was a family room window consisting of a middle picture window surrounded by double hung windows on the left and right. The second window was a master bedroom window panel containing two double hung windows with mullions and a half moon at the top with a star burst mullion.

WE CLEARLY MISDIAGNOSED THE ISSUE ON THE PHONE INITIALLY AS HE POINTED OUT. HE SENT ME DIGITAL PICTURES AND AN E-MAIL THE DAY HE MADE THIS ANGIE'S LIST POSTING. I RESPONDED THE NEXT DAY AND WE SENT A SERVICE TECHNICIAN OUT TWO DAYS LATER TO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK. OUR SERVICE TECHNICIAN DID ADD SOME INSULATION BEHIND THE WINDOW MULL SHOWN IN THE PICTURES. THIS SEEMS TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. ON MARCH 2, I FOLLOWED UP WITH HIM TO SEE IF HE HAD ANY PROBLEMS AND HE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT HE HADN'T. HOWEVER, WE DID NOT EXPERIENCE THE SAME DEGREE OF EXTREME COLD WEATHER WE ENCOUNTERED IN LATE JANUARY. I ASSURED HIM THAT WE WOULD TAKE ANOTHER LOOK IF THE PROBLEM EVER COMES UP AGAIN. OUR INTENT WAS NOT TO DISCOUNT THIS PROBLEM AND WE HAVE CHANGED OUR PROCESS TO IMPROVE OUR INITIAL PHONE DIAGNOSIS OF EXTREME ISSUES LIKE THIS ONE.

Very poor performance all around. They took us off the market from seeking other bids with the 50% deposit and then failed to follow through on timely delivery. Several calls to Renewal By Andersen pressing for the refund they had agreed to five weeks earlier were ducked and not returned until they finally did refund the money.
Description of Work: We signed a contract with Renewal By Andersen to install for $5,060 a sliding patio door with two sidelights in early October. Right from the start and consistently, we emphasized the importance to us that the job be completed no later than early December and sales rep Sheila said that should not be a problem. In mid-December, she FedExed a form they wanted me to sign agreeing to a potential problem, I was willing to agree to sign off on the problem, we had discussed it thoroughly in the first meeting and nothing had changed. But I was furious that RBA had stalled on this paperwork and now said that because of their delay, the earliest they could install the door was late January, which was unacceptable to me. I asked them to mutually agree to cancel the contract and refund the 50% deposit. Sheila agreed. Their cancellation form promised a refund within 10 days. Five weeks later, my wife had to call several times and threaten legal action before the deposit was refunded.
