If your looking for a painter, these are the people you want to do the job. They exceeded my expectations. When they called to schedule a start date I was told that the job would take 5 days. Considering the size of our house, I was surprised that it would take so long. I had no idea how much prep work went into a paint job before any paint went on the walls. Before the work even began, all furniture and floors was covered. All of our walls and ceilings were patched, sanded, and cleaned. Our sixty year old wood work that showed it's age was patched and sanded. The ending result was a house that looked new. The employees of this company are professional's and it shows in the quality of their work.
Description of Work: They painted our living room, kitchen, eating area and entry ways. The job included painting all the doors and trim.

Description of Work: While we needed to postpone the project, people from Paint This the Truth presented a positive work ethic, willingness to work with the condo owners, and tremendous integrity. My hope is that we use them in the future when we're able to do the project.

Pros: Quality and beautiful workmanship. Great at coming up with ideas and solutions. Excellent interior work. Cons: Although I was given good estimates for the initial contract, even when I asked how much some extras would cost, I didn't get those estimates in writing. However, when I did get a verbal estimate, the final invoice reflected the same amount to which I had agreed. I could never get estimates for additional painting however. Overall, they are really great at interior work. Pete turned out to be a terrific guy who was very good at coming up with ideas and recommendations. He recommended many different tile stores and with the help of a designer friend, we found beautiful stone tiles for my own bathroom as well as some very great looking ceramic tiles for the apartment. They started with my unit because I was able to decide on the tiles for it first. The guy who did the tile work was meticulous. Because the bathroom was small and the tile work was so lovely, I decided to have custom glass doors installed. After Pete saw that I liked a more contemporary look, he suggested I let him design a floating vanity and have the fixtures come out from the wall. It did cost more than having a stock cabinet but it was well worth it. The drawers were designed to fit around the plumbing so there is very little wasted space and the finish is beautiful. I love how it all came together. They replaced my noisy fan with a new quiet one and in the process, discovered my dryer vent was not hooked up correctly and causing moisture problems. They fixed everything and repainted the ceiling. Needless to say this was additional. Next they worked on the apartment. The old kitchen was small, poorly lit and had very little cabinet space as well as a lot of dead space. So we decided to enlarge it enough to put in a lazy-susan cabinet in the corner. Pete remeasured multiple times to ensure the sink would be centered with the window while allowing enough space for the refrigerator and dishwasher. They wired for the additional lights under the cabinets and over the peninsula. I wanted the hood to vent to the outside so the cooking smells wouldn't come up into my unit. I designed a custom tile layout for the tub area based upon a photo I saw and, again, the installer did a beautiful job there as well as on the floors throughout the unit. The estimate for the amount of tile was wrong and I ended up paying more than I should have; there was a big restocking fee that ate up much of the refund. In the end, it probably wasn't worth returning it; could have used it to redo the laundry room. Some of the extra tile was used to redo the apartment's powder room floor; I did get a quote for that and felt it was reasonable. I made a mistake with the granite and it clashed with the back-splash in the kitchen. So I had to pick out a different tile and they had to redo it. They did such a great job painting in the rooms that had drywall damage, I had them do the entire unit. Overall, the apartment turned out beautiful. Great job installing the new lighting. Lots of additional cabinet space. It's nicer than my own kitchen. I had no trouble renting it in a very bad market. Some of the rental agencies that showed it were surprised at what a beautiful unit it was. And I am pleased with my tenants. The windows turned out to be a nightmare because the original builder did not do things properly and so there was rotten wood that needed to be replaced on a good portion of the the front of the house. This was not anticipated and turned out to be quite expensive given all the additional labor involved. They weren't equipped to do this kind of work and so it probably took longer than it should. But they really did a great job, especially given the circumstances. Pete subcontracted the replacement of the porch and sidewalk out to others. The guys who did the sidewalk were terrific but the ones who did the porch were not. To eliminate painting and maintenance, I wanted man-made materials rather than wood. It was obvious these guys had never used those materials before. Pete stands behind his work and got a different set of people to redo some of the work. It looks much better but I can't say I'm thrilled like I am with all the interior work. For the other bath in my unit, Pete showed me pictures of another home he had renovated. I liked it and then he suggested a floating vanity for that bath as well that they would build. Since I loved the first one, I was all for it. Again, it did cost more than stock cabinets would but they look like furniture instead of the ordinary cabinets and the quality is similar to furniture. Given how quiet the other fan was, I had them install a new one that also had a heater. They installed lighting under the cabinet, in the tub area and had to add a line for the heating element in the fan. Again, I love how the bathroom looks. Pete and his team did an excellent job. As long as that part of the house was torn up, I had the laundry room door replaced with a pocket door. That required some rewiring to accommodate the door and of course more painting. The door glides quietly, smoothly and easily. As I stated, all the work performed by Pete and his crew was excellent. They were courteous and friendly. As issues came up, they figured out how to deal with them. There were few misunderstandings which, considering the amount of work, it was amazing. The only negative was in terms of getting estimates for additional work. I emailed Pete and asked and wouldn't always get a response. No matter what, I recommend you get everything in writing so you know exactly how much everything will cost. It's the extras that can kill you when you're renovating. Pete's an honest guy and you can trust him. But you do need to know what you're spending. Someday I want to renovate my own kitchen and I hope to use Pete when the time comes. I showed my neighbors what they had done in the apartment and they hired Pete and his crew to redo parts of their finished basement that had water damage.
Description of Work: The garden apartment needed to be remodeled (kitchen and 1-1/2 baths). Since I live above, I wanted decent tenants but the unit had become very run-down due to the cheap materials that were used by the original builder. Because it is somewhat below ground, it makes it less appealing. Therefore the unit needed to be nicer to attract good tenants. The remodeling consisted of all new maple cabinetry, new ceramic tiles, granite countertops, glass backsplash, enlarging the kitchen, new plumbing, stainless steel sink, installation of a built-in dishwasher and new hood (opening created to vent outside), new ceramic surround in the tub area with glass accents, and a lot of upgrading of the electrical to add lights. Plus painting as well as repairing drywall that had water damage. And I had the carpeted staircase changed to oak because the carpeting got filthy and worn in no time whenever I replaced or cleaned it. 4 sets of windows (3 across) were replaced plus one additional single window (some were leaking and all had to be replaced because they all had to look the same on the front of the house). The front porch needed to be replaced; it was rotten in many places and it needed to be redesigned because it was not up to code. The sidewalk leading up to the house was cracked and I wanted it replaced with pavers. I also wanted two full bathrooms in my own unit gutted and remodeled. I wanted upscale cabinets and fixtures. They designed custom cabinets that turned out absolutely beautiful. While they were working on my unit, it turned out the dryer was hooked up incorrectly by the original builder and moisture and dust was being released. The ceiling had to be opened to fix this issue. Also there was a leak in the upstairs bath which turned out to be caused by the way the original builder had not reinforced the flooring under the shower. Again this required the ceiling in my dining room to be opened up. Since they were doing such an excellent job, I had the door to the laundry room replaced with a pocket door since I couldn't close the other door because the appliances were in the way. That required more electrical changes. I also had them stain my deck and they reinforced the structure with metal hanger brackets. They also replaced the exterior door to the apartment with an energy-efficient one.
