We worked with Marshall, the owner, to obtain a bid and understand the work that would be done. He did a nice job of explaining what they would do and estimating how long it would take to get it done. Marshall suggested a good alternative in replacing a rotting trim piece. He was flexible with our needs and was able to provide pro's and con's to different approaches with the deck. The two employees that came, a father and son, did an excellent job of working on the deck and the projects. They were also careful to clean up after themselves every day. We were very happy with our experience and would use this company again.
Description of Work: We needed a trim piece replaced outside (on the house), a fence gate fixed, and a large deck sanded and restained.

I didn't choose them because their prices were high. They were fine, besides their price. I had a good experience with them. Their estimate was fairly detailed.

It didn't! Unless you are dead, there is no other reason for this lack of courtesy.
Description of Work: 1. Contacted the number listed and it was answered with "Hello." I had to ask "Is this Dennison Construction?" 2. Upon confirmation, I explained my needs, gave my address and scheduled an appointment for Thursday 7/28/11 @ 6:30 pm. 3. Said date, no show, no call.

1. The phone number I use for Angieslist , Is my cell phone. My company consists of me and 7 carpenters I love design and try my hardest to please all. I sometimes fail. 2. I was driving at the time and wrote down all the information on a piece of paper. 3. I forgot to enter it into my Blackberry phone calendar. I did miss the appointment; I was actually looking forward to the appointment at the time of the call. It sounded like it could be a cool job

Overall, the work looks fantastic. Almost like a new deck! Marshall came to check on the work and decided they should come back and add another coat of stain on the front steps. He also had the workers keep trying to remove the old paint from the black spindles that had blown all over them while power washing. That part did make quite a mess on our screen door and the spindles. I recently recommended them to a family friend who then remembered they had done excellent work on their sunporch years before.
Description of Work: They power washed and sanded our two tier deck that had been painted an ugly terra cotta color by the previous owner. Then they stained the flat surfaces and painted the verticals and rails the colors we had previously discussed. They also took out a portion of the railing we had agreed to remove after it was suggested. After, they built new steps going down into the yard where the railing had been. In addition, they power washed, sanded and stained our front steps. They also painted the verticals, railing and columns of the portico. Marshall had great ideas like removing the portion of the deck railing to open it up to that part of the yard and having some decorative rocks in front power washed (which they also did).

Marshall was very prompt in setting up and keeping our initial appointment. During the consult, he offered some design suggestions, While I appreciated the fresh perspective, I felt he was somewhat dismissive of our design considerations and constraints. He was able to give me a verbal quote on the spot, but never followed up with a written proposal/estimate. The verbal estimate was inline with, or slightly lower than, other quotes we received.

Marshall is wonderful. He worked with us beginning through end. He provided on-going consulting through-out the entire process. He helped us in many areas outside of the project he contracted for. He spent numerous hours with us at the nursery to ensure we had the appropriate bushes and plants. He was always responsive to my calls. He provided suggestions but was always gracious when we wanted something done "our way". His staff are "experts" and are extremely friendly. The end result looks beautiful and the value and services we received far out-weighed what we paid.

I sought 3 quotes from the top deck builders on Angies List. I sketched out what i wanted to be done. He provided suggestions on materials (I went with Cedar). He provided a quick quote on the spot that was comparable to one other (1 quote was $1500 higher than the other 2). I chose Mr. Dennison over the other quote because he seemed more professional. The project turned out great overall. The arbor turned out fantastic. The spring was very wet and cold and the workers did not work outside on some of those days. That is why Punctuality was a "B". The quality of the deck work was solid. There were a few small things missed, but Mr. Dennison made sure that they were taken care of.
Description of Work: Mr. Dennison built a 5' by 13' deck off of my kitchen, approx 3' high. He also poured a concrete pad for the hot tub that was placed next to the deck. Also, he built a 15' x 13' Arbor to go over the deck and hot tub.

My wife and I had an idea of what we wanted to do, but it was limited to "maximize the deck space and add a dog run". We had a few contractors come in and give us bids on what we described but Marshall listened to what we wanted and took it to the next level. He came back the next day with a sketch of a proposal that was well thought out, created a flow to our entire back yard area, included a built in bench and arbor, as well as a spot for our grill. We were blown away by his vision and his quote was in line with our budget, so we went with it. He initially said he wouldn't be able to start for a few weeks but when we requested it be done asap, he was able to make arrangements to start immediately. His crew was excellent; on-time, professional, and cleaned up each day when done. They completed the job in 4 days and it far exceeded our expectations! The details they included were outstanding and we couldn't be happier. We will definitely use Marshall for future jobs.

We are very happy with our deck and patio. The guys that came every day to work were polite, punctual and professional. The price went up after the job started and it took longer than expected (by one week) due to weather and the difficulty of the wood. The design process was not the greatest; we did not understand the not-to-scale drawings. That said, once the work started and we were not happy with the size of the deck, they redid it to our liking.
Description of Work: They tore out our old deck and replaced it with a new Brazilian wood deck and paver stone patio. They replanted and relandscaped much of the back yard because of the new deck/patio. They also sided the house.

Overall, the job was done without any frustration. The porch looks as if it has never been touched, it retains its old world charm. Only we know that it looks like what we envisioned --friendly and usable. Certainly, a job well done.
Description of Work: The front porch on our house was extremely narrow, and after 7 years we finally decided to try to get it enlarged. We had a few contractors come over, but none of them seemed to understand that we just wanted to do a "simple" job on our porch. Of course we wanted it to look as if nothing had really changed when viewing the lines of the porch from the street, but we wanted to gain some square footage to actually enjoy sitting out on the porch! Marshall Dennison came over and immediately connected with our thoughts. He didn't push us to expand it in any grandiose way, but rather creatively constructed a way to have the porch gain almost 30 square feet without even looking much different. In other words , the porch was definitely expanded, but the beauty of our home was not overtaken by largese. The men who came to work on the design were extremely talented and finished the job promptly and professionally.
The job went extremely well. This job was colmpletely done from "scratch". We needed all the elements of a project of this size, rough carpentry, plumbling, electricity, tiling, drywalling, painting, and fine finish work. The many twists and turns it took did not deter Marshall or his team from staying on task and always meeting our requests with full cooperation. The finished project is a showpiece. The price was always documented with receipts and remained reasonable. We could not speak more highly of the Dennison team than to say that we would absolutely hire them again to be in our home and share their many talents with us.
Description of Work: The basement of our custom home was completely unfinished. We decided to expand our living space by way of finishing our basement, but we wanted it to match the quality of the rest of our home. We had many contractors come over to give us their ideas and prices. Marshall Dennison was the only contractor that shared the vision we had for this job. He assured us that his team could match the quality and beauty that we so like in our home, and the price that he quoted was lower or in line with the other contractors for a job of this magnitude. The Dennison crew did exactly what we wanted, and they did it with extreme professionalism, talent, timeliness, and kindness. They created an extremely beautiful environment in our basement-- warm, comfortable and luxurious. They always arrived on time, always respecteed our wishes, and never complained about any changes we may have made along the way. In addition, the job was done with cleanliness and comraderie. Marshall Dennison led his team with a respectful and gentlemanly quality. I highly recommend Marshall Dennison Construction for any job you may have--something as small as fixing a faucet to as large as duplicating a very compicated Victorian style decor.

Apparently lights were not to code to begin with, but Mr. Dennison did not bring lighting up to code for me. Most importantly they "daisy chained" the lights, so right now the junction boxes have too many wires in them and the wires are not even capped. They are hanging loose out of the junction box. This is a potential fire hazard. When I contacted Mr. Dennison he told me that he had done nothing wrong. I asked him to come out to the house the following Monday to discuss this with an independent licensed electrician from another town. Mr. Dennison initially agreed to come out, but did not show up. When I called him he said that he was not going to bother coming back out.
Description of Work: Asked Mr. Dennison to came and replace acoustic ceiling tiles and readjusted frame work. He removed large florescent light fixtures and replaced them w/ can lighting.

The basement was finished by another contractor as stated. I was hired to change ceiling tiles and take out 2’x 4’ florescent light fixtures and replace them with can lights, which I did. The basement was originally built using “BX cable”. BX cable -- technically known as armored cable or "AC" has a flexible aluminum or steel sheath over the wires and is resistant to damage. Sold at Home Depot, Menards, Lowes and every hardware store that I know of. The 2 jobs before me were also built using “BX”. Client had her kitchen and family room refinished. Those contractors used “BX” in the walls and ceiling also. If there was little or no “BX” I would not have used “BX”. I prefer to use Electric Metallic Tube (EMT) Conduit. (EMT) is code. I have known for over 35 years that “BX” is not code. I did not need to discuss if “BX” is code with an independent licensed electrician from another town. But it is safe to use. To read more on “BX” go to this web site http://www.seatekco.com/bx.htm

Marshall got back to me quickly after I contacted him about this project, and came out to take a look at what we wanted to have done. When we were ready to move ahead, we scheduled the date & time of the work and he and his people got there at the time promised. His people were easy to talk to and work with, and Marshall came by as well at the beginning of the project to make sure hs crew was clear on the work to be done. I have to say that I really like dealing with Marshall...he's easy to get ahold of and he's got a lot of good ideas. At one point, I was discussing other plans we had for the house with him, specifically with regard to the kitchen, and he called me back a while later to tell me about some ideas he had that might work better than what I'd described to him. I thought that was great, because it showed that not only did he have good ideas, but he'd taken a person interest in the project, even though it wasn't something that we'd agreed to work on yet. Anyway, they did the work as planned, on time and on budget, and cleaned up most of the debris as promised. The next day, Marshall came back and made sure that the rest of the debris was removed from the property.
Description of Work: Remove portion of existing deck, reuse existing material to finish off new deck edge, build new stairs on new side of deck, cap off a built-in gas grill line and haul away debris.

I feared it would be a major job but Mr. Dennison assured it would be an easy fix and only cost $100. Work done well and promptly. Will definitely call again for future work.
Description of Work: Needed to replace some rotting wood supporting roof over front porch.
We couldn't be happier with how the remodel went. We originally hired Marshall Dennison to power-wash and re-stain our front and back deck. We found him through Angie's List and picked him because of his glowing reviews. During the inspection, Marshall Dennison showed us that the original front porch was not laid on concrete supports and was slowing sinking. It would have eventually caused roof damage and cost us a lot of future headaches and money to repair. He won our trust from that moment on. We knew he was honest, paid attention to detail, and really was interested in our best interest, not his. We didn't know what a general contractor was before we met him, but he immediately became ours. He has great ideas to make your house the best it could be!!!! After the decks, he and his crew refinished our ugly fireplace with new carpentry and granite tiles, placed custom crown molding around the great room, dining room, and kitchen, design and built a shelving unit for our office, painted window trims, and did all the other things on our home "to-do" list. Again, we were so happy with the work he and his crew did on our first floor, we decided to hire him to remodel our basement. He started by patching walls that were seeping and making it drier so it didn't feel like a basement. He built a railing for the stairs going downstairs so it would be safer for our toddler. He recommended and placed new lighting so it wasn't so dark. He did everything we needed to make the basement an actual usable living space rather that a storage unit. He has the best ideas, is creative, and really helps your house reach its full potential. In this housing market, we couldn't afford to move, so we really made the most of the house we live in with his advice and his hardworking crew. He really has made our house our home. We definitely will turn to him again if anything needs to be done to the house.
Description of Work: Replaced and rebuilt front porch. Power-wash and stain the back deck. Replaced falling exterior siding and caulked all window wells. Refinished a fireplace with new granite tile and wood carpentry. Custom crown molding for 1st floor. Design and built shelving unit for office. Painted window trim. Replaced 4 sets of blinds in 2 rooms and replaced bathroom vanity. Design and built railing going downstairs to basement. Patched leaking wall in basement and put in additional lighting. Designed and remodeled the basement.
