+ -1 moreFantastic job by a fantastic handyman. I had been talking with Ray a few weeks about various jobs in our new house. He came over one evening to talk about some of the projects and gave us some very good feedback on how to move forward. I booked him for a service call and unfortunately had to cancel on him. I called him back a week later and he had an opening and came out within a few days. He helped me with a few electrical issues and also mounted 2 ceiling fan boxes in the bedrooms. He even helped with a leaking pipe in the basement. The whole time he was showing me what he was doing and actually teaching me along the way.. I ended up asking him questions about a few other concerns I had with the house. His feedback made sense and helped me decide on what projects to do next. He also was able to give me a referral for a great fllor guy and a painter to use for my house. I will definetely be using him again in the future.

+ -1 moreRay is a complete professional. He is thorough in every detail of his work. He informs us of what he is going to do before starting a project and keeps us in the loop every step of the way. As new homeowners, Ray has been a great help in perfecting our home. Our family finds his handyman services to be something that we will need continuously in the future.
Description of Work: Green Slate Services has done several big projects for our new home - everything from taking out an old mailbox and cementing/installing new mailbox to installing a large mirror on our wall. Ray, the owner, has also enforced a plexiglass screen to our basement door for security reasons.

+ -1 moreRay was so responsive when I called looking for a handy man to help my business hang some banners and a Christmas wreath with lighting on our storefront. This is something that we have never been able to do on our own successfully. He is such a nice guy and did a wonderful job. I would recommend Green Slate Services for any handy work you may need help with. Green Slate Services actually specializes in deconstruction and salvaging the old materials to be reused which is fantastic. They also can do partial construction too. But they take smaller handywork jobs in between major projects. I would recommend Green Slate Services to everyone any day!

+ -1 moreRay came in as scheduled and completed the work almost on time (one item took longer than expected). The estimate was pretty much right on. The work was all quality work, no complaints. Ray was also very helpful recommending somebody to refinish the wood floor as he did not do that type of work. The work outside was during the hottest week of the summer, still he completed the work as planned. The only thing I regret was not having called Ray any sooner. He could have fixed all these issues while I was living in the house and I could have enjoyed the house without having to look at those eye sores for 5 years before finally getting them done.Thanks to Ray the house is in ship shape. I now need to find somebody to rent it!
Description of Work: I was getting my house ready to be rented so I contacted Green Slate Services. They were recommended by a person I know. Ray came in and did the estimate. It took about 1 hour to walk through the house and explain all work needed. He performed the following repairs: - Replaced basement window that was rusted out - Removed a power outlet that was on the floor and in the way - Fixed a piece of aluminum fascia that came off during a storm - Cleaned 2nd level gutters and installed gutter covers - Replaced lattice under the deck - Fixed paint and patched ceiling that was damaged by water leak in 2nd floor - Rodded bathroom tub drain that was clogged

Description of Work: My mother was coming home from a nursing facility and we needed to move her recliner (which contained an electric motor, so was very heavy). Ray responded promptly to my request for an estimate, which was very reassonable.

Description of Work: I had a garage door opener stop working at a rental property. Ray went to fix it and dealt with Sears and the manufacturer to troubleshoot the problem, and worked with them to get free parts despite not being on warranty. The problem wasn't fixed however, so Ray investigated (without my having to ask) good but cheap openers, bought it, and installed it.

When I explained what I wanted to do and the look I was going for, he gave me valuable input which helped me make decisions that I am very happy with. I am extremely happy with every project that Ray has accomplished for me and still have much more for him to do around my new home. Already, with Ray's expertise, my house looks beautiful. Everyone who sees it compliments me on how everything looks and on Ray's work!
Description of Work: Ray has worked for me 3 times at 2 different residences so far. He repaired/replaced baseboards that had been eaten by a pet, painted them, installed ceiling fans, hung pictures and mirrors, fixed electric lights, cut a shower rod to fit a shower stall and attached it to the tile and hung shower curtain, hung a dining room fixture, and hung hooks in my kitchen and bathroom.

+ -1 moreEach time we have been impressed with his knowledge and skills. My husband is eager to learn how to do some of the work himself and Ray is an enthusiastic and patient coach. My husband assisted Ray with the projects and has learned a great deal from him. That helped us to save on the labor cost. Additionally, we will save on future projects because my husband now has the confidence to attempt projects on his own. Because of this and the fact he has done so many jobs for us, it was difficult for me to estimate how much we have spent on his services.
Description of Work: Ray of Green Slate Services has worked on several projects at our home. One of the projects that Ray helped us with was the replacement of a worn out patio door. He helped us pick out an energy efficient sliding patio door. He pointed out that since it was our only access to the backyard and that we have two dogs, we should invest in a high quality door as it will get a lot of traffic. Despite the interior floor being out of plumb since it was an addition onto the original house, he made the door fit beautifully. Ray has also replaced our water heater, replaced four windows and put in a new shower for us. Because we have an old home, each job presented itself with unique challenges. For example, one of the windows being replaced was a glass brick window. We couldn't find an in-stock window that would fit the opening, so instead of recommending us to spend extra money unnecessarily on a special order window, he cut the brick surrounding the opening to make a perfect fit. It looked perfect. Ray also is determined to do home repairs, maintenance and remodeling in an environmentally friendly way. He always did his best to reuse or recycle whenever possible.
