SPANDIKOW & SON ROOFING

I needed a roofing contractor to look at my elderly parents roof leak. I live in Florida so I searched Angie's List and selected Mark because of his ratings. Mark was very responsive to my request to meet my mother and although they decided to hire another contractor from Angie's List I was impressed with Marks professionalism and response to my request.

Both jobs were very well-done. Spandikow is prompt and will take small jobs without batting an eye, a rarity nowadays!

Holy cow, they are awesome. We originally contacted Spandikow last winter when a spontaneous leak appeared in our family room. A call or two to other roofers elicited the usual, 'oh that's an emergency, thousands of dollars, blah, blah.' We called Spandikow and he suggested it was ice damming and that we rake snow off the roof. We did, and it worked. Later in the year, we were ready to replace the roof (unrelated problem). Spandikow produced a detailed estimate in a day, and sent it by e-mail. We'd been told by other contractors that we needed to replace gutters & downspouts, but Spandikow said we didn't-- "your gutters are fine," he said. "I'll put screens up and that will fix your issue." He called ahead with an estimated day of construction, showed up (calling first) a week early when he had a cancellation, and finished the job in ONE DAY, including all cleanup. He also told us that our old shingles were still under warranty and that he'd give us the address to write for a refund. He mailed an invoice after all work was done, and it was about $500 less than he'd predicted. Awesome, awesome, awesome.

I didn't use them because their estimate was too high.

Overall experience was positive. Original estimate was based on average to minimal materials which led to a lower dollar amount than other bids. But with up-grades this price was still competitive with other estimates. The job was started as agreed, finished in about 2 days and clean up was very good.

Great! Steve came out for the estimate(he's the son)and was very kind to our toddler who was very interested in his ladder and that a man was climbing up on the roof. They had the lowest estimate we received, but I also felt confident in what I saw from them. There was a lag in communication from when I faxed back the signed estimate and when they showed up for the job. It took a bit of time and I was calling to check on when they were scheduling us. When I heard from them, I believe it was only 1-2 days notice before they came for the work. I believe there is some variability in their schedule depending on weather, and they didn't contact me until they were sure they could show up for the job. After finding the roof leaking the day after we closed on the house, we were just thrilled they could get it done as quickly as they did. The men worked really hard and Steve showed up too to be sure that everything we needed was done properly. When it started to rain, the men got in their truck and waited nearly a half hour for it to stop and then immediately got back to work. We were impressed! Things look good and we now have a nice tight roof and a working bathroom vent.

Everything done on the net and phone - If you know what you want and know what the competition is offering, this is the company to go with. They are bare bones and best in cutting to the chase. It is best to talk with other roofers first to find out the details about what your roof needs and what is available. Then give these guys a call and have them come out and look at your roof and send you a quote. Send in your questions and give them a call and finalize. They are small and selective - geographically on who they take but do great work.

We were disappointed that they never called back. They are a local company and I would have liked to give them our business.

I'd give them a non-passing grade. Why give the estimate when you're too busy to do the job. I should have been told that upfront.

I thought that they were honest with us. They did very good work. They were on time and worked in a timely manner. They also cleaned up well when they were finished.

I called and they came out the same week and fixed it with no problems.

They did a great job. Were prompt and quick.

Overall, the job was a success. The crew worked quickly and completed the job in two days. The house and landscaping was properly protected and they cleaned up the debris very well. I only found some minor debris after the job was complete which is to be expected. My only complaint is that my contract said they would replace the old roof sheathing with 4-ply plywood, but they used 3-ply.

Work started a few days earlier than estimated. Work took two days. Great clean up. We received work estimates from three other companies. This was the lowest. Roof looks great.

Overall it was a good experience. I would recommend this company and their price was reasonable compared with other estimates I got.

I asked Mark to check my roof since another roofer had told me it needed to be replaced for $15000. In addition, I explained that I had water coming into the house in one area. Mark verified that my roof should be good for a few more years at least. This is what I expected since the 30 year roof is only 21 years old. I described my water problem, which he determined was due to the design of the original roof which diverted most water to an area that was too small for a gutter and sent water down the front of the house. He said he could build water diverters, and install two larger gutter downspouts to fix the problem for $1200. Since he also does tuck pointing, I asked him to look at the chimney, which I was told needed to be replaced for $4000. He fixed it for an additional 300. He scheduled the work, came out as planned, and cleaned up as if he wasn't here. I noticed some dripping after the next heavy rain. He came back for free and added a custom gutter wing to solve the problem.

THEY NEVER RETURNED CALL. USED A COMPANY NOT ON ANGIE'S LIST - OURY ROOFING. JOB WAS COMPLETED AND AREA CLEANED WITHIN 24 HOURS. SINCE SPANDIKOW IS IN THE NEXT TOWN I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY DID NOT CALL BACK. HOWEVER, I SAW OURY HAVE A CREW OF ABOUT 8 ON A JOB IN THE AREA AND COMPLETE IT AND CLEAN-UP IN ONE DAY, SO I CALLED THEM. THEY NOT ONLY PROVIDED ADDRESSES OF JOBS THEY DID BUT ALSO ONE THEY WERE WORKING ON. IN ASKING TO SEE ROOFS WHERE THE FINISHED COLOR COULD BE OBSERVED, THEY INCLUDED A CHURCH WHERE THEY DID 15,000 SQUARE FEET OF ROOFING.

Unlike other companies, they didn't try to force me to replace my whole roof. They were great. Came in on time, no delays...got the job done.

They did a pretty good job. We haven't had any more leaks. Unfortunately, they put a roof vent in the wrong place, which I discovered when I went to hook up a vent hood a few months later. To be fair to Spandikow, I didn't want to deal with more roofing work, so I didn't call them to tell them about it. They did good but not a great job of cleaning up after themselves. The weirdest thing about this project was that the crew didn't seem to come with half of what they needed to do the job. They borrowed my saws, my utility knife, caulk, and a couple of other tools and supplies that they should have had with them.

We were very happy with the work. The small job was no problem for them, and they started and completed the work, in a timely fashion.

They were actually returning phone calls. He was the only one who would come and look at it. And they put on the new roof in the middle of the winter.

QUICK, CLEAN, COURTEOUS, DID A FEW LITTLE EXTRAS AS POINTED OUT TO THEM.

I had a few leaks and Mark came out to take a look. He said that my roof was nearing the end of its life but still had a few years left. Instead of trying to sell me a new roof he fixed it and that shows me that he is an honest guy. Its hard to get a hold of him; I had to pursue him to give him business but I guessing that's because he is a good roofer.

We called Spankidow because they were referred to us by a family member. Their price was not the highest, yet it was not the lowest either. Their quality of work was great. The roof looks wonderful and they cleaned up their complete mess so you cannot even tell they were here (except for the terrific looking roof.) A real pleasure to do business with.

They came out quickly, but I really think they looked at the wrong house! He called & told me that the cedar shake roof actually looked in pretty good shape, so maybe just to do the ridges. The shake was so bad, it was crumbling!! Every time there was any wind or rain at all, there were pieces all over the walk. They said if we REALLY wanted it done, it'd be about $15,000 for the full job.
