Fabulous! We had heard good things about DeSitter but had never used them before. We needed to re-do two bathrooms in our home and re-carpet our family room. We got bids from three different places, including DeSitter. DeSitter was very competitive price-wise, and very helpful, start to finish. Tile: The people in the Tile and Stone Gallery were great in every way, friendly, professional, really helpful with design ideas, and responsive. There were so many tiles to choose from and a lot were items they stock. The salespeople helped us come up with some fun ways to make it our own, and pointed out details we hadn't known to consider. (like how to turn the tile at corners, how to include soap trays, basic stuff but not necessarily things you think of if you've never done this before!) We did our first bathroom using their in-stock ceramic tile. The installation was beautiful. The workmanship was so precise; and the installer was very neat and clean. We could tell he really cared about his work and took pride in it. For the second bathroom, we chose some decorative tile that needed to be ordered. The salesperson let us know upfront the delivery time required and kept us informed. Very helpful. Again, couldn't say enough about the installation. Really beautifully done with care. We love both our new bathrooms! Carpet: The salespeople in the carpet store were just as great! They have pretty much any kind of carpet you could want, for any price range, with a lot of good colors in stock. We went in with a basic idea of what we wanted, and the salesperson helped us narrow down our choices based on how we use the room, what colors we like, our budget, how soon we wanted it done, etc. She asked us some great questions, so we knew she knew what she was talking about. They came out and measured the room the next day and had a quote to us right away. We chose a beautiful Masland carpet and were very happy with the pricing. Installation went without a hitch. The installers were polite and courteous and very neat in their work. The carpet is gorgeous! It totally changed the look and feel of the room. (The kids love it, too.) All in all, we love DeSitter and would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: 1 - Tile installation in 2 bathrooms, including help with design. 2 - Carpet installation in family room.

It has been excellent. They are good in terms of helping us to choose carpets that met our need. When they schedule the installers, they show up on time. They are here and they do a good job. It's done well. They are through within a short period of time. They are probably in and out within a couple of hours. We have a third one planned.

We previously hired them several years ago. Steve DeSitter, the owner, took special interest in us. They did an outstanding job. They were not the lowest price, but they did a great job. When people come into our home and see the flooring, everyone admires it.

Alan at DeSitter in LaGrange was very helpful when I stopped in to choose samples. He encouraged me to take several home, allowing my husband and I to make our choice in the room under various lighting conditions. When we returned the samples and placed our order, Alan figured out how to configure the layout of the room to use less carpeting to save us money. He also gave us a free upgrade on the padding. Scheduling the installation was simple and the workers were prompt and efficient and left our house clean. We are delighted with the result. We love the carpeting so much we are having three remnants bound for area rugs for other rooms -- a service DeSitter was happy to provide for a reasonable fee.

The showroom had a large selection of flooring. The sales people were knowledgable and friendly. They understood my request for an unusual flooring. Our home is heated by hot water copper tubing set in a grid line within the concrete floors. It's a wonderful heating system, but it does require specific flooring so as to allow the heat to rise through the floors. The only flooring we can put down is vinyl. Desitter was the only flooring store that had vinyl flooring planks with a natural-look the wood. The flooring was installed on time by hardworking and friendly workmen. The entire second floor was completed in three, including removing the old flooring and disposing of it.

Terrible experience! Job was to remove carpet from two bedrooms on either side of a hardwood foyer at the top of the stairs, install hardwood in the bedrooms and stain to match foyer. Initial appraisal person (I think Steven DeSitter) said there would be no problem in matching the color of the hardwood of the bedrooms to the existing foyer. Even though we knew there would be additional expense, we suggested stripping the hardwood of the existing foyer between the bedrooms so there would be more uniformity of the color. They assured us that there would be no problem in matching the color. We were happy to see they were so confident. I expected them to stain a small sample of wood to check against the foyer color, but they didn't. They stained the entire bedroom floor. The color did not match the foyer at all. When I complained, they tried talking me out of redoing the floors for a better match saying,"You don't see them at the same time, or same angle, etc". When I insisted (because I had offered to be out the additional expense of staining the foyer initially) they restained the bedrooms. When I came up to check the second stain they said (and I quote) "It doesn't matter if you think it matches or not, we're done!" I couldn't believe it! When they left the job, I found they had left blue masking tape at the entry to one of the bedrooms. I removed it and the stain came up, leaving a bare patch of wood as you walk into the bedroom. When I told my husband I was calling them to come back and repair that, he said he wanted NOTHING else to do with them. Whenever friends as me about a hardwood installer, I tell them I don't know who to recommend, but DO NOT use DeSitter!!

Everything went very well from start to finish.
Description of Work: The service began with consultation with Terry Maliska. She provided outstanding service. Besides being very helpful in the selection process, she came to our home to do the measuring. She was very patient as we took our time making the selection. The date for installation was set and the installers arrived on time. They worked very hard all day, not finishing until 7PM. Later we had a couple of items we wanted gone over and the installers came back and again provided excellent service. We could not be more satisfied with all of the services provided by DeSitter.

It went very well, from the beginning estimate to the installation. We worked with Terry in sales and she was very accommodating in giving us a generic quote before we picked out the carpeting. She quoted a mid-grade of carpeting originally, in order to give us a dollar figure. When we went in to actually pick out carpeting (pattern, material and color) she showed us everything in the quoted price range. This is for my son's home and he ended up picking out a slightly more expensive carpeting than originally quoted which raised the price slightly, but this was strictly his choice and definitely NOT a bait and switch operation! We set a date for installation but then as other construction finished early, we moved everything up one week and they were able to accommodate us. The installation was flawless. The team moved all of the furniture from downstairs into the kitchen and hall way. They moved all of the 2 bedroom and office furniture into the master bedroom. They dis-assembled everything incredibly well and then put it all back together again. They did an awesome job and finished the entire thing in about 7 hours. They took all of the old stuff with them which was a big deal as other providers had indicated they would leave it at the curb-not something we wanted to deal with. When they left, everything was back in place, carpeting had all been vacuumed and it looked terrific. They asked permission to unplug everything in the entertainment unit, which had to be done in order to move it out of the family room. I don't know what they would have done if I'd said no, but I'm sure they would have coped! Then when they moved it back, they asked if I wanted them to re-hook everything back up but I told them it wasn't necessary, that my son would take care of it. It is a complicated mess of wires so I didn't want them to be bothered with it. Imagine my son's surprise when he got home and began to plug everything back in to find that they had used pieces of tape to mark every wire! Don't know if that's standard procedure but it was very much appreciated. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!
Description of Work: Remove old carpeting in entire home. This included a family room, living room, dining room, stairway, upstairs hall and 4 bedrooms upstairs, including all closets. Install all new padding and carpeting in all of the rooms.

The service person I worked with was wonderful and followed up. She came and brought several tiles, it was a great selection. The job they did was beautiful. They were on time and cleaned up after themselves.
Description of Work: They did a backsplash in my kitchen.
Installers showed up at the time promised and went right to work. They worked swiftly, but took the time as needed to insure that the carpeting was properly installed. They cleaned everything up before leaving (well, they did leave five carpet razor blades on the driveway, but I think that was just a minor oversight). My wife's closet was especially challenging, as she has a substantial IKEA closet system installed. The system includes a half a dozen large compression poles. She didn't mind removing all of the drawer and shelf components, but did not want to remove the poles. The lead installer was a bit disappointed to find that they couldn't be removed. We told him that she didn't mind it if they had to leave some visible seams. They didn't--they did a perfect job in the closet; it looks thoroughly professional. As regards the sales side--we shopped several dealers and did a LOT of research (there's a lot of duplicity in the carpeting industry). We actually shopped DeSitter's quote against a competitor, and they just barely matched it. But the competitor was quite a distance from us, so we went with nearby DeSitter, and we're glad we did. The sales rep we worked with--Joanne--was professional, worked to answer any and every question, and was unfailingly responsive. (She even came to our home to offer color choice advice--a specialty of hers). We are thrilled with the product and the installation, and would definitely use DeSitter again.
Description of Work: We purchased wall-to-wall carpeting for our entire home (2200 sq. ft.). We purchased a level III Anso product called "Caress."

The Desitter sales rep was very helpful as we tried to decide what to put in the basement where we had had carpet in the office and vinyl tile squares in the laundry room. We also wanted to cover the cement garage floor and he helped with that decision. The Stone Chicago, Inc. owner and staff were outstanding, doing an incredible job with all the flooring. They are perfectionists and great artists in creating beautiful floors. The detailed work on the stairway is extraordinary. They also helped put all the furniture back so we were totally thrilled with everything.
Description of Work: Desitter Flooring uses Stone Chicago, Inc. for all its epoxy aggregate work. We had them put the epoxy aggregate in the 2 rooms in our basement: laundry room and office (@ 750 sq. ft.). They also did the stairway to the basement. They also did our garage floor (@440 sq. ft.). In July of 2011, they repaired the Armorstone covering on our patio, side sidewalk, and driveway.

I paid a couple of thousand dollars. They were professional and on time, but the installation was a problem because the installers damaged the wall. My painters were coming back anyway and they fixed it.
Description of Work: I used Desitter Flooring in January of this year for flooring.
The sales staff was very knowledgeable and helped steer me toward the best options to fit my lifestyle. They then matched the color and style of the wood floors in the master bedroom to the rest of the house. They did a spectacular job. The carpeting was installed on time with qualified personnel. I had no problems all through the process.

I didn’t use them because their responsiveness was the worst. I couldn’t get call backs from them. I had to wait too long to get their callbacks. They had another client there and they made me wait. Wonderful. We had originally arranged for them to only install carpet in 2 rooms on 2 separate days. However, we discovered a problem that required replacing the carpet in a third room. They came right out, measured and readjusted what was being done so that we could get all 3 rooms done during the 2 days. We're very happy with the quality of the carpet and the installation. The salespeople (Paul and Sharon) were very helpful. We've bought carpet from them before, and highly recommend them.

I wavered between the good deals of a big box store and the service of the smaller carpet places. I was concerned about price, but since I didn't know much about carpet I was more concerned about the quality of the product I was getting the quality of the company that stood behind it. Scott Crawford was the salesman that helped me pick out the right carpet. He spent time to explain the difference in the carpets, the fibers, manufacturers, warranties, etc. I felt that he really gave me the ability to make a knowledgeable decision about what carpet was right for my needs After taking many samples home I decided on what I wanted. Scott worked with me to get the layout and price right and the installers showed up on time the day they were scheduled to arrive. The installers did not impress me, they arrived in an unmarked old van and didn't wear uniforms. I'm not an expert on good carpet installation, but I did take issue with the transitions from the carpet to the hardwood and also felt that the carpet in a couple of room wasn't stretched tight enough. I called Scott with my complaints and he sent the lead installer right over to address my problems. He stretched the carpet tighter in two of the rooms and admitted that it was not done right. He offered some solutions for the transitions, but in the end we left them as they were. I'm still not thrilled with how they feel, but I guess there is nothing that can be done differently. The service was great, the installation could have been better.

Was told the installer would call the night before install to give a range of time for install. Wanted this info a week ahead but was denied. Problem #1: He did not call until next day when he was half an hour away. #2: I was unaware, until installer arrived, that the install could not be completed that day because my staircase has 3 stairs that turn. He had to cut the pie shaped pieces for those stairs and take them back to be bound. #3: 10 days later, a different installer called to arrange a time to install the pie shaped pieces. He installed only 2 of the 3 pieces because 1 had been cut wrong by the 1st guy. Problem #4: That installer called 2 weeks later to arrange an install the day before Thanksgiving. Called that morning to cancel. Someone had a carpet 911. #5: Between #2 and #3 I got a past due notice on final payment. #6: the floor rugs binding came loose. #7 Salesman called 2 hours after final install to ask about non-payment. Was clueless that install had taken 33 days.
Description of Work: My decorator found carpeting at DeSitter that I liked. I ordered a runner for my entry stairway and two floor rugs.
