+ -1 morePat showed up the same day that I called to request service. He came at exactly the time he said he would be there. He was very professional, and after showing him what we needed done, he got right to work. He rekeyed a couple locks, and after he was done, he said he was not happy with the quality of the keys, and after asking if it was OK, said he wanted to return later with a better machine, for more accurate key-making. I was very impressed with his focus on quality, and it was certainly worthwhile having him come back, to have it done right. He again showed up at exactly the time we agreed upon, later in the day, and the new keys are perfect. Overall, very positive experience and we would use him again.
Description of Work: Locks were changed on all doors for a new house we purchased.

+ -1 moreWhen Pat first came out, he told me to call Baldwin about the replacing the internal parts that weren't working because they had a lifetime warranty. He didn't even charge me for coming out. He said to call him when the parts arrived. It took about 1 1/2 hours to replace all the internal parts. What struck me most was his concern about what was best for me instead of what would have been easier and more money for himself. I can finally say that we have a front door that finally works properly. I wouldn't hesitate to call him for anything to do with locks. He's professional and extremely honest.
Description of Work: Pat Bell replaced all the internal parts to a Baldwin door lock that wasn't working properly.

+ -1 moreFriendly service at a low price. Pat was able to schedule an appointment quickly, which was nice since we moved into a new home and wanted the locks changed ASAP. He performed the lock work and key duplication in an hour or so, and made a second trip a few days later to install the charley bars on the sliding doors. The only issue was with payment, as Pat does not accept credit cards. We had to reschedule several times before we were able to coordinate a time for him to stop by and pick up a check.
Description of Work: Had 2 door locks re-keyed, keys duplicated, and charley (security) bars installed on two sliding doors.

+ -1 moreI called Bell's Locks and spoke with Patrick who was very pleasant and had inquired of my needs and then gave me all my options. He called me back after making sure he had the lock that he recommended in stock. We then set up an appointment. He called me in the morning to let me know he would be a few minutes late but would take that into consideration on the final bill.However I believe that fact slipped his mind when it came time to pay. He completed the job promptly and professionally. I would hire Bell's again anytime and would definitely refer him to others.
Description of Work: I had my deadbolt locked switched out for a better grade lock. Also Patrick, the locksmith made me several keys that I had requested.

+ -1 moreI called Bell's Lock & Key on June 20th and spoke to Pat Bell about the lock I needed replaced and that I wanted the deadbolt on that door, plus the lock and deadbolt on another door and the lock on the garage door all rekeyed to match the replacement. I asked Pat if he could come by the next morning and he said he could. Pat came by at 8:30 the next day, like he said he would, and worked on the doors for over 2 hours. His work was thorough and professional. I thought the price he charged for the work was fair and would definitely use him again.

Changed the door locks, I paid and then asked if he could make a key for the storm door, she checked the door and asked if I wanted it keyed the same, great 3 doors and 1 key, he rekeyed the lock, I paid for the additional service and we were set. great guy, veru knowledgable and friendly, and willing to go the extra mile. Good guy and great service.
Description of Work: Bought a new rental unit and needed all of the locks changed. Called Pat and despite having a family engagement on Saturday offered to come out Sat later afternoon to changed the locks.

+ -1 morePat (if I'm recalling the name correctly) was prompt, friendly and proficient. He gave a fair and reasonable quote for the work and did it in a timely manner. He went out of his way to make recommendations for what would work best for us, as well as staying an extra hour to ensure the job was perfect when it didn't seem quite right. I highly recommend him and would use his services again.

I could tell that he really cared about his work and in giving me the best service. He was running about 1.5 hours late because he had an emergency call that morning, but he did call me twice to let me know and keep me posted.

+ -1 moreWe called a local handyman who suggested we call a local locksmith. When I called that locksmith, he was ridiculously expensive and rude. So I decided to check Angie's list and came across Bell & Sons. What a difference! The man was very nice and reasonably priced. I texted him the address and he was onsite when he said he would be. My neighbor was safe and warm in her house really fast. The man from Bell & Sons even stopped by our house to thank us for the referral. Would definitely recommend and use again!

+ -1 moresee above I talked to Judson a total of three times. He should have mentioned the service call charge of $50. He should have mentioned the trip charge. Charging tax is also odd. I don't need to hear from him that his van cost thousands to repair when he is driving a Cadillac. Sorry--I have my financial worries too. Good luck to Judson!
Description of Work: I had two deadbolts installed in in outer doors (he supplied the two locks). I called Judson about two weeks prior to my preferred day, and he said call back a couple days ahead of time. I called back a day ahead, and it was no problem for him to come out. He came out promptly and spent over 3 hours working on the doors. Never in the course of two conversations on the phone did he mention a trip charge and a service charge. He charges $50.00 which is not part of his work time . He also charges a trip charge if you are outside his area (I'm in Naperville). He also charges tax, which is unusual. So, unexpected charges were near $75.00. I also was surprised how long it took him to do the job (he charges $60 service an hour). I was worried he was not doing well health-wise (he is 82), so I kept checking on him. Judson does a competant job, althought he did nick off part of my door, and did not mention it, but just put some white putty in that spot. He left a mess, and took some paint off an adjacent wall. I don't know what to say. I've had Judson do work before and was pleased with his knowledge, but this time, I still understand he is competant, but I think he charges too much for what he delivers. I think he may also be getting just a little too old to handle these kinds of jobs.

He called back early in the evening, and arranged to come over later to rekey the locks and make some spare keys. He was prompt, courteous, certainly knows his job. Gave me a couple of tips and a quote for additional security in the house and that project will be done later in the month when he gets the parts. The whole project went very smoothly.
Description of Work: Re-keyed two locks and deadbolts and made additional spare keys. Also made some suggestions about putting in another lock/deadbolt combination which will be done in a couple of weeks and repairing an old lock on a storm door.
