ACB Masonry removed and replaced all of the brick veneer on an 80 foot wall of our 1950's era brick ranch. Foundation sill plates were repaired in a number of places as well. This was a VERY challenging job! Bill was correctly diagnosed the type and extent of our damage even prior to removing the old brick veneer. He worked with us to develop his plan, advised us on a completion date and and kept within budget. Bill's honesty and attention to detail is astounding. He displayed artistry in matching our 60 year old bricks with modern ones. Bill and his crew always left a tidy work site; they were punctual, honest and thorough. Bill Tenuta takes great pride in doing exceptional work; I felt as if he were working on his own home. I recommend ACB Masonry with confidence. Bill has integrity and experience -- he won't let you down.

Bill returned call within 1.5 days, showed up on time for estimate a few days later, ordered and delivered new brick as promised (perfect match). After a weather delay, he scheduled the job, showed up and did very nice work. Two day job (to let the bricks set overnight). His helper was friendly and efficient. They cleaned up the work site, took away the debris, and offered to stack the remaining few bricks wherever I wanted them. He did what he said he would do at the price we agreed. Note: If all contractors worked this way, we wouldn't need Angie's List!

Contacted ACB for a small job after seeing all the positive reviews. I tried submitting a form via their website for an estimate and I wait a couple of days, but I never get a response.. So I decide to leave a message via Angie's list. I did hear back from Bill about an hour after leaving that message, but unfortunately I had gone for a jog and missed the call. Bill said he was calling me in regards to an estimate and would try me back later. I went ahead and called him back since it had only been 30 mins or so, but I got his VM. I left a message for him to call me back and if he didn't have time, to call me the next day. I never heard from him that night or the next day, but decided to wait as he may have been busy. I didn't hear anything for the next few days, so decided against my better judgement to try again. I call him, leave my name and number again and ask him to call me in regards to some work and an estimate. It's going on a week now and still no response. At this point the only thing I can assume is in one of my email submissions I said it was a small job, so maybe decided that it was too small to bother with? Would have been nice for some sort of response though.

In response to the customers review and reason for me not following up with them, we had a unexpected death in the family that took time away from my business. I apologize for not responding as quickly as I should have but under the circumstances I was unable to. I always try to make sure my customers are well taken care of and go above and beyond what is expected of me and my company and always will. I hope the project was completed and the customer is satisfied. I trust you understand the position I was in, however If I can do anything further for you, I would make it a priority to get it taken care of. Once again I apologize. Sincerely / William J. Tenuta.

Bill did a great job all around , he set out to fix a leak I was having and did so with aplomb! His attention to detail to make the repair fit seamlessly with the rest of our brick home facade was great! He not only fixed my problem he left our home like he found it in the first place - he cleaned up every bit of debris . He also followed up with me ,not once but twice after bad storms to ascertain if I had had any problems! I am so happy to have chosen him for the job! I plan to use him again for masonry work .

After having called three masonry businesses from Angie's List and getting poor to no responses, I called ACB. What a difference. Bill called me back very soon after receiving my Web site request. He met with me a couple of days later. We discussed several options in addition to the main job of repairing my porch and there was absolutely no pressure to buy. I decided to go with the Rolls Royce options and the end product is fabulous. Timely, professional, thorough, friendly, and knowledgeable all describe Bill. I will certainly pass his card around my subdivision. If you're looking for masonry work, take my advice--start here first and save yourself a lot of headaches.

First of all, it may sound minor, but the fact that Bill called back the same day I left a message was a good sign. None of the other tuckpointing companies I called were very responsive. I didn't have to wait long for him to stop by and give me a quote on the work. He took his time to listen to the multiple leak issues we were facing and the several ways they had already been addressed. Then he explained his expertise and went into detail on how he would approach the problem. I felt I got a thorough explanation and he answered all of my questions without issue. I thought the quote was fair considering the location of the work. He and his partner were on time and professional. He had committed to making one repair and investigating the source of another. After the repair, he and his partner did a water test to figure out where the other leak was coming from. He found the entry points and immediately repaired them. Because he was already there and it was a quick fix, he did not charge me for that repair. He knew I had already spent hundreds of dollars trying to resolve the problem, so he went the extra mile and fixed it himself. A few days after the repairs, we had a hard rain. I got a call from Bill. He was just calling to see if his repair had held. It had. Yes, I would highly recommend ACB Masonry and would use them again.

Bill is fantastic. I would find it hard to believe that you could find someone who cares more (genuinely cares, not fake cares) than Bill. I got 4 quotes for this job, and although Bill's quote was the highest of the 4, I still went with him because it was clear that he was going to be the most thorough (that's not to say his quote was ridiculously high, it was just that his quote included things that nobody else had noticed or included in their quote). They worked hard, were punctual, and did EVERY single thing that he said he'd do. A major reason for this job was waterproofing. Remains to be seen if we solved the problem. If we didn't, it is not for lack of effort. The work was top notch and I'd refer Bill to anyone in a heartbeat.

It came out very good. I just had the best out of it. The work I saw, there's the best attention to detail. They got that community of quickers. They were also the most personable and probably more professional than some of the others. Their pricing was very good. Everything's got smart. They got it. He's got awesome workers. He's a great guy. I'll absolutely use them again. I actually think there might be additional work probably about a year from now.

Bill showed up on time on the first day for a free estimate. He explained a few items he thought needed to be addressed and I explained what I needed done and why. He brought samples of his work and was very informative. He provided us a quote that same night and it was average but good for the work to be done. We hired him and he was willing to work with our schedule and do the work while we were working since we couldn't take time off. He came out a 2nd time to fix some of the items that were missed and we appreciated that he waited until we said we were satisfied before charging us the rest. Most companies do not care and just take the money all up front for the work. He contacted the village for a permit which unfortunately did not get back to him but it was not extensive work so we were okay with that. Now we are awaiting a quote on driveway repair but look forward to working with him again in the future. He even called a few days later to follow up and make sure water was not getting in as was the issues before. Thanks Bill!

Their bid was probably around the same or a little under two other quotes I got; the price was competitive. I decided to go with this company because of their good communication and professionalism. They had all of the necessary insurance and licenses; they had it all laid out and made it very easy. They came over and did a good job; and did a little extra. This was a job that was going to be inspected by the city and when the city looked at it they said this company did a good job so I was very pleased.

Great experience having this company do work on my house.
Description of Work: I was referred to this company by a relative of mine. I called Bill and spoke to him and asked him to come out and take a look at my house. When he arrived I showed him the problem spots on my house that needed to be tuckpointed. He advised me that the best route would be to tuckpoint the entire house. He brought different color samples and let me choose the color of the mortar I wanted to use. Let me tell you that it came out looking great. My house looks completely different. Bill also pointed out some bricks that needed to be replaced, so he cut them out and replaced them also. I could tell that it was a very messy job but Bill did a great job cleaning up. I also had recently had some aluminum put on my windows and I had mentioned that the person who did it never caulked it. Bill said that he could also caulk the windows, so he also took care of that for me too.

I was very pleased with the work and the price was fair. I would definately use this company again. Work was done right on time and looks great.
Description of Work: I was referred to Mr. Tenuta from a friend of mine. I called him and gave him a short list of what I believed needed to be done. He came out the next day to look at my home. I knew I needed tuckpointing done and wanted a glass block window installed in my bathroom. My home was built in the early 1950's and was only tuckpointed in certain areas. I knew it all needed to be done. He came out to perform the work and ground all of the old mortar out, repointed it. He also cut out the bad bricks and matched them as best as he could. It's not very noticeable at all. When he installed the glass block window, not only did he put it in and it looked great, but took very good detail in protecting my home from debris inside. Upon grinding out my chimney, Mr. Tenuta showed me that it was in desperate need of rebuilding. He explained to me why and what caused it. He was very knowledgeable. When the chimney was completed, it looked brand new. The cleanup was also very good. It looked like no one was even there.

We are not happy at all with the way the job was left not finished. He walked away and didn't come back to finish the job when he kept requesting more money and we finally told him no more. He had agreed to get any permits that were needed, but then started to charge us for every time he had to go to city hall for any thing. Home owner beware. This person will tell you "I will do the best job you could ever have done. On my Sons lives I promise I am an honest man. My word is my bond. I don't have a problem looking in the mirror every day because I know I am honest. " These are the things you will hear over and over. He will try and talk you into hiring his friends for any little thing that does not have to do with brick/masonry work. Beware because they will cost you twice as much as hiring some one out of the Yellow Pages. Don't order any thing needed for the job until the day before the job is to be done and don't order more than needed !!
Description of Work: The original job was to brick up only a small part a of store front building. He talked us into having more work done and to brick up twice as much as we had planned on doing. That the front of the building would look so much nicer. Which it would have. Had us order the bricks in case we couldn't get as many as he needed when he started job. We tried several times to get a price from him on how much the bricks cost per brick and he would never give us a price or show us an invoice that we requested several times. We had a problem getting a permit, but he NEVER did come back to finish the job that he could have finished with out the need of a permit for the original job. He walked away and left the whole front of the building open for the Winter months for snow and water to run into basement and we ended up with frozen pipes from the open spaces. We had to hire some one to come in and take care of the frozen pipes . We all so had to hire some one to finish his job. We ask that the bricks NOT be left on the store front floors, but be stored in the basement. He had his worker to put them in the store front which did damage to the floors. We have at least 3 thousand bricks stored in the basement -- which we had to hire some one to carry them to the basement to get the weight off the floors before the floors caved in. We would like to sale these bricks, but not knowing how much we paid for them, nor where he ordered the bricks from we are stuck with all these bricks he had us buy ahead of time.

Response from ACB Masonry, LLC
Reply of A.C.B. Masonry L.L.C, to Patsy Miracle regarding brick and masonry work at 1349 N.Greenview Ave. Chicago Il. 60642. When I was originally contacted by members, I was not informed about any building code nor zoning violations. As it turned out, the members inability or refusal to resolve the building code and zoning violations with the City of Chicago made completion of their project not only impossible but illegal. All work that was permissible within the scope of the original " repair or replacement permit was completed. Any work I did was approved by the City of Chicago. Contrary to member assertion, the building front was not left open at anytime, and no debris was left on the premises. Regarding placement of the brick, they were located in the 1st floor storefront at the direction of member. Members also accuse me of asking for and receiving more money than the agreed contract down payment and change orders. This is absolutely false, and they cannot produce any checks or receipts to prove otherwise. I can document any of my statements of fact regarding the problems with the City of Chicago. At all times, I was honest and ethical in my dealings with members. Because of the zoning and code problems with the City of Chicago, they choose to abandon the project and now accuse me of failing to complete the job. They said they are in possession of the brick to finsh the job. Have they hired someone else to finish? No they haven`t because the problems with the City of Chicago remain unresolved. I submit that this alone proves my factual representations to be true. William J.Tenuta Owner, A.C.B Masonry L.L.C.

Will came out and gave us an estimate which was competitive with other masons in the area. He did a great job of explaining all of our options for the repair work. We scheduled to have him come back out and complete the job for us. He was not only on time, but also called the night before he came to confirm our appointment. This was really appreciated since the first mason we called to do the job, simply never showed. Will's work on our house was wonderful. The mortar blends seemlessly, but most impressive was the work he did to repair the bricks. He ground out the cracks, then filled them in with mortar - then stained the mortar to look like the brick. We did not need to replace the bricks (which would have been a more pricey option) and you cannot tell we ever had a problem. Will was honest with us from start to finish and his work was excellent. We definitely would use him again in the future and have already passed his name along to our neighbor, who needs similar work completed on her house.
Description of Work: We needed tuckpointing performed below a second story window on our house. The mortar was deteriorating and six brick had cracked down front of house below the window. The company needed to grind out the mortar and cracks and then repair bricks so they continued to blend in.

I contacted this company through Angie's List. He was punctual in calling me back and we arranged a mutual time for an estimate. Mr. Tenuta was extremely pleasant, reiterated that he had been a mason for 25+ years and appeared very professional. He measured and scoped the project and told me he would give me an estimate the following day which he did. Unfortunately the cost of the estimate was more than triple any other estimate I had received. Mr. Tenuta left a follow up voice message and asked that I call him if I wanted to proceed with the project. I did not call him back. The interesting aspect of this experience is that Mr. Tenuta did not know that his company was on Angie's List and told me that someone must have submitted his name. He also mentioned several times that "no job was too small" for his business. Though I appreciated Mr. Tenuta's professionalism, I was disappointed and surprised at his estimate, especially in this economic climate. It's very difficult to get a company to do "small jobs" and that's one reason why I decided to give ACB Masonry a call. I have nothing else negative to say about this gentleman nor his company and perhaps someone who has a large project would appreciate his services.

In reply to member. I was contacted by member regarding concrete repair work. and I did submit a estimate. The condition and area of concrete work to be replaced was substancial and I believe the estimate was appropriate for the size of the project. I believe in doing any project correctly and with in building code requirements. In responce to " No job to small ", as you can see in a few of my reports on Angie`s List there are very small jobs that I am always happy to do, and I believe in doing professional workmanship the smaller projects and as well as the larger one`s. I am sorry that member thought my estimate was not what she was looking for and I hope she was able to have her project completed. William J. Tenuta, Owner A.C.B. Masonry L.L.C.

Bill Tenuta specializes in restoring historic buildings and was very knowledgeable in this area. He steered us away from more drastic and expensive procedures. He recognized issues that other bidders did not see (total deterioration of steel lintels above 3 windows). He was very generous with his time in discussing the situation and explaining exactly what he would do. After he was contracted, he not only completed his part of the job in a timely manner, but returned to the church during a heavy downpour to inspect other areas of the building to assure that they were watertight. During our many correspondences, he was very helpful in problem-solving issues, even outside what he had been contracted to do.
Description of Work: Tuckpointing of 90-year old church. Chimney required extensive tuckpointing. Spot tuckpointing was required on the other exterior walls. Arched entrances were ground out and re-mortared. Cracks in foundation wall were resealed. Steel lintels above 3 windows were removed and replaced and brickwork restored.

contacted Bill about possible tuckpointing of my home. He returned call and came out; said house didn't need tuckpointing; repairs, however, were needed to repair various cracks in the brickwork; gave me an estimate; I signed contract. Attempted to give deposit and he said no. 1 week didn't hear from him. I called, he said he lost his organizer and he would come out and give me an estimate - told him he had already done that; he said he planned on doing the work the following week probably Weds depending upon the weather as we were having so much rain. he said he'd call on Tues eve to let me know. He never called. I called that Fri and left message asking if he would please call, let me know if he was going to do the work or if I needed to find someone else. All I wanted was an answer. No response. Called again the following Mon and left another message. To date (6/28/09), he has not returned my calls or performed the work.

In responce to member. Yes member did call for a estimate and I did reply. I did go to her residence, and evaluated her masonry project and upon inspection there were a few cracks that needed to be repaired. I did give her a estimate, and she did try to give me a down payment which I said was not needed and that payment was due upon completion and customer satisfaction. But due to above average continuous rains, scheduling became a factor, masonry repair work cannot be performed in certain conditions and I would not attempt to perform repairs because the work would not be satisfactory. In responce to not returning her phone calls I notified member a number of times, I am sorry that she thought that I did not want to perform the repairs, but due to weather my hands were tied. In responce that "no job is to small" , in a few of my reports on Angie` List you can see that I have completed to the customers satisfaction projects that were much smaller than member. I am sorry that she felt like I did not want to perform the repair work and I hope that she was able to get the project complete. William J. Tenuta Owner A.C.B. Masonry L.L.C.

This chimney was a disaster and needed to be done a.s.a.p. since it had been causing a leak for some time and the ceiling in the room below had considerable mold and water damage. He came within a week and got the job done, explaining everything as he went and showing me the completed work.
Description of Work: We recently bought a house with a badly deteriorated limestone chimney. He came and ground out the old mortar, patched everything and reset the cap, which was falling off. He even patched a couple of holes below the roofline which were not part of the bid.

Great! The work was done fast and the house looks great. We are so happy that we followed his advise and tuckpointed the whole front of the house. I am sure we would have regretted only doing spot repairs. After the mortar completely cures, he will be coming back to powerspray the house.
Description of Work: I have a brick house built in the 1960's that was in desperate need of tuckpointing repair for years. Our brick at places was falling apart and there were holes in the mortar where birds tried to make nests (yes, it was that bad). I left msgs with multiple masonry companies, but ACB was the only one who replied. (Normally I would follow-up until I get more quotes, but we were comfortable with ACB so we went ahead with them). William came out on a Saturday to give us a quote. Due to the inability to match the exact color of mortar, William advised that the house would look better if the whole front of the house was done and fixing the spots on other parts of the house. Due to costs, we were determined to only have the spot repairs done. He did not pressure us to change our minds. The quote for fixing the many spots was $650. After the work began, we changed our minds and decided to have the whole front of the house done. The additional cost was $400. He ended up staying an extra day at our house, but he did not seem to mind. We are very happy with the outcome and plan on having him come back to redo our chimney.
