Description of Work: The asphalt truck had to wait for the crew to show up and poured cold asphalt which did not set up correctly, consequently the driveway is very rough and crumbling.Reach out to the vendor via email and phone with no return call.

Description of Work: Firm was very prompt in response to my call for estimate. When I confirmed that I wanted them to do the job, they provided instructions for getting a town building permit. As soon as I got the permit, I called but got no response to multiple messages left. After several weeks, I called and connected and the work was started the next day and completed two days later. Good work and very efficient crew. Owner was on site for the paving - supervising the work.

Description of Work: They did so many things wrong it would take a while to list. There was not straight line anywhere and they didn't make the driveway to fit railroad ties which are straight lines. They gave me wide curves instead and when I mentioned it to Jerry Sandman his reply was: "You'll have to call a landscaper." What am I supposed to do with that? Throw away my railroad ties? He also added $500 to the job after he was there for a few hours with the excuse that there were tree roots buried deep and it would require more sand and gravel. He left the railroad ties and a lot of piled up dirt strewn everywhere in my yard which eventually killed the grass. He missed an area of blacktop completely and left a high ridge where a car could fall off the edge and have serious damage. To date he has not returned my phone calls nor my emails asking him to come back. |I wish I had read the other reviews before I hired him. I would have gone elsewhere. I am going to report him to the BBB and also try to get a reporter out here to give him some well deserved bad publicity. It there are other people out there interested in a class action lawsuit I would be happy to talk to them. He needs to be accountable to all of us. It required me calling after 4, a return call after 5 saying they weren't going to make it. I had scheduled this days in advance as I was already planning on being home and needed to speak with someone about the work I wanted done. We were really off to a bad start so I didn't reschedule the estimate.

 + -1 moreThis report is long overdue but this company was really terrific and deserves an excellent report. The company building the garage was so impressed with Sandman Pavings work that they asked me for their name and contact info as they were interesting in using this company. Their estimate was the most reasonable of all I'd received. They had to work around dozens of oak trees with stubborn roots. Several companies didn't even want the job because they weren't sure they could handle it. Since this report is 1 1/2 years later, I can reasonably state that they took great care with the trees which appear not to have sustained any damage. Everyone was very professional. The job was completed timely and looks great.
Description of Work: Extended and widened a driveway from the front of the house to the back of the property as I was adding a new garage.

 + -1 moreThey were extremely good. The price was a couple of hundred bucks the last time I used them and two years before that. It was $5000-$6000 two years before that. They did what they said they were going to do at a very good price. They did a great job. With regard to price, they were very good. Their punctuality was great. I definitely will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Sandman Asphalt Paving & Seal Coating sealed coated my driveway. They completely took out my driveway and put it back in. It's a pretty good sized driveway. I have also used them before four years ago and six years ago.

 + -1 moreWe hired Sandmans to install asphalt on a 12 x 120 ft. driveway plus approximately 28 x 50 ft. parking area in front of the garage. Existing driveway was 15 year old gravel and dirt in poor condition. Sandmans came in with a bid competitive with other contractors and we decided to go with them due to their ability to start work quickly and ease of communications. Someone always answers the phone and is quick to get answers to questions. Sandmans showed up the day of construction promptly at 7 AM and got to work immediately. They graded the old gravel and brought in two loads of new gravel as a base which was compacted down. After this was inspected, they put down 3" of asphalt. The job was done from start to finish in under 8 hrs. The job Sandmans did is first-rate. They were responsive to exactly how we wanted the job done and made several changes on the spot. Attention to detail and neatness show throughout the finished product. Sandmans was a pleasure to work with.

 + -1 moreI contacted Sandman's via Angie's list email and received no response. I then called to schedule an estimate. I left work early to meet Tom at the house at noon. No show by 1pm and called to find out what was going on. Seems Tom got pulled into a big parking lot job in Fox Lake. They never called to let me know they were cancelling. I rescheduled to Tuesday at 8:30am. Again, no show and no call. I am looking for another paver to replace my driveway. They must be too busy to bother with me.

As it is somewhat of a distance away from me, Tom even offered to go for the permits from the city the work was to be completed in! We are extremely pleased with the work that was completed.

 + -1 moreQuick to quote. They clearly explained process, cost and permits needed. I OK'd work on Thursday they completed job on very next day. Work involved: (1)removing old drive way top and base, (2) excavating down about 14- 16 inches to provide a good base. (3) FIlling with new base material. (4) Rolling/tamping down base, (5) Putting approx 6and quot; deep black top on top of base. Certainly a far better drive way than was there originally! Very efficient! They also called for all necessary village inspections. When finished they left job site clean and new drive way flagged off. What I also liked was that they left us a well made booklet explaining how we should maintain our new black top/drive way. Great job. Would use them again.
Description of Work: Removed existing driveway, excavated, refilled with fill, levelled off and tamped down before replacing blacktop.

 + 0 moreThis is the second job done by Jerry. The first was a complete driveway done in 1999. It is still in excellent condition. This job was just as smooth to get done. They tore out a cement drive and replaced with asphalt. When I came home to inspect the site it was so clean it was like no one had ever been there. I would recommend him again as I did after my first job with him.
