He was the only contractor who showed up to give us a quote that actually brought sample materials along with him, so we were impressed by that. The only negative was that we had to sort of watch his painter, although a very nice guy, and keep asking questions to ensure that we were going to have straight paint lines without any slop. Overall, everything turned out great, and we will be using John again in the future.
Description of Work: John replaced all of our baseboards and doors on the first floor of our home and added crown molding and wainscoting to a few rooms.

+ -1 moreJohn was absolutely great to work with. He came on site for the estimate and took the time to talk to us about what we wanted and offered various options that we had not considered. This was not something any of the other contractors did (and we had 3 other contractors quote!). He offered to bring samples so that we could see how everything looked prior to making our final decision. During the work, John was a perfectionist. He prides himself on his work and above all wants to make sure his customers are happy. He spent extra time to fix other people's mistakes. For example, he adjusted and rehung all of the doors (which I hung myself) just to make sure that when the trim and casings were installed, everything looked great and I was happy. He was extremely accommodating to mine and my wife's schedule, which is hard because she works nights and must sleep during the day. So he adjusted his work to be as quite as possible while she was sleeping or while I was on conference calls. At the end of the job, he walked around the entire condo with me to make sure I was happy with everything. He took the time to show me how to caulk and spackle the trim and give advice on painting it. Before leaving he told me that if I notice anything is wrong, just to give him a call and he will come by and fix it up. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend John. If you are looking for the fastest and cheapest guy, he probably isn't your man. But if you are looking for someone who takes his time and gives you great quality work at a very reasonable price, you should definitely go with him! Note: The picture was taken during the project after the first door was cased. I still need to spackle, caulk, and paint the trim prior to taking the finished pictures.
Description of Work: I hired John from Trimcraft to install baseboard throughout my entire condo and case all of the doors.

It took him about 4 days to do all of the work, and it has improved the look of the house from the bad 1970s look it had. His attention to detail and making it look perfect is exceptional. He cleaned up at the end of each day, and removed all of the debris. If i ever redo another room, John will get the call to finish it.
Description of Work: John installed all new trim, doors, closet doors, and window casings in 3 bedrooms and a hallway.

+ -1 moreWe were very comfortable with John in our home, he takes great pride in his work and goes above and beyond to help troubleshoot different issues that come up along the way. During the course of the project the dishwasher flooded on the new flooring which was just installed (by another contractor). John stopped by just to check on things and make sure everything was okay. I would highly recommend John to anyone. We look forward to working with him again in the future.
Description of Work: Added 2 part crown molding throughout house, replaced all baseboard, door case moldings, and added wainscoting to the dining room.

+ 1 moreJohn is great. His attention to detail is superior. On the 1st appointment he provided his thoughts of what would work in my house and make it look up to date. He then brought in sample trim and molding to look at. His ideas were perfect. It took him 2 days to do the work, and at the end of each day he cleaned up as best as he could. He even fixed up some minor issues from the floor installer I had who didn't give as much attention to detail as John does. I will definitely use him to finish the rest of my house in the future.
Description of Work: John replaced an old closet door, and an old entry door to the garage. He also replaced all of the old 1970's trim, door casings, window casings, and added crown molding.

+ -1 moreTrimCraft come out and customized the front posts on our porch. I had pictures of what I wanted as my wife and I were selling our house and the posts looked like tooth picks. John is unbelievable and so professional. He made up samples of what the posts would look like based on our pictures. He was right on and added a few extra details that made it look better than the picture. We thought this would add some curb appeal and wow did it ever, house sold in 3 weeks! Many of the neighbors asked for John's information, including next door. I have not had luck with construction companies but John is one of the last good ones. Angie's List approved A+!

I am remodeling my kitchen and wanted a new look for my builder grade island and I also wanted crown molding and new baseboard. I showed John a photo of an island that I liked and he was able to replicate it to my specifications. He took the time to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. The rest of his work was also excellent. I felt his price was extremely fair. He really exceeded my expectations. It was a pleasure to have him working in my home and I really appreciated his eye for detail. Highly recommended!!!
Description of Work: Installed crown molding and baseboard to living room, dining room and kitchen. Added picture frame molding and a chair rail to dining room. Added crown molding to top of kitchen cabinets. Totally revamped kitchen island.

+ -1 moreWe were extremely happy with the service and quality that we received from John at Trim Craft. Going into this project, we had a good general idea of what we wanted to do, and John leveraged his experience and insights to provide us with additional ideas to meet our design goals, but without feeling like we were losing the essence of what we wanted. He was able to draw up a detailed estimate of the work, so it was very clear what we were going to get. The work was performed over five and a half days and completed right on schedule, which was very important as we had painters scheduled to come in immediately afterwards to paint all the trim and wainscoting. The work was done to a very high quality standard, and John took care to make sure that he reviewed any critical design decisions with us before proceeding, and then we reviewed the work as he proceeded. He treated our house with care and respect, and cleaned up at the end of each day. John was also very flexible and accommodating to help with one small carpentry problem that we had elsewhere in the house. We will certainly be using Trim Craft again for our next carpentry project to add crown molding and bookcases in our family room, and have no hesitation in recommending him to others.
Description of Work: Installed wainscoting and chair rail in the Dining Room, Stairwell and Upper Hallway. Installed door back bands and pediments for the major entryways off the foyer (including the front door), and crown molding in the foyer.

I felt that the cost was very reasonable for the scope of work, which I expanded once I realized what a great job John does. My home has many odd angles and ceiling levels and I have had multiple trim carpenters who have come to look at the work and offer no ideas on how work with these odd angles. John, however, viewed them as an interesting challenge and figured out how to work these anomalies into a design that is very pleasing to the eye. John even went above and beyond when he saw a poor trim job on one of my doors and fixed it for me at no additional charge!
Description of Work: Trim Craft built, installed and painted the following: Waincotting and crown molding for the dining room. Additional trim to cap multiple interior windows. A new mantle for a fireplace.

They were out for an estimate with in a few days of contacting them and we were able to schedule the job exactly to the timing I requested. The work is top knotch and John even went above and beyond to make sure I got the best customer service experience by fixing a few other small nagging problems without hesitation. All of the materials came in pre-primed and were delivered a few days before the project so that we could put a quick coat of paint on them before installation. We love our updates - a great company to work with and a great investment.
Description of Work: Trim Craft updated 3 rooms with 5 inch base boards and shoe and also installed custom window trim on 5 windows to match the rest of the remoldeled trim on other windows.

+ -1 moreSince JIM's Custom Woodworking didn't follow through I now had an issue to get our job completed by Thanksgiving. I informed John that I wanted to be involved in the process and provided pictures of things we liked. John's took it upon himself, knowing that I was very visual and produced samples for each area he worked on. He was very unique in the fact that he wanted us to be involved with the process and was so easy to work with, NEVER an attitude as you get with many trades people. The transformation of our home for what we paid is unbelievable. We are going to have realtor's come in to provide the value of our home as it looks like a custom built home. I also want to note that John was able to develop a custom cabinet from a copy of a picture. This cabinet is the centerpiece of the kitchen and turned out perfect. As they say," behind every good man is a woman". Donna kept the communcation flowing and ensured all products were there when the job was rolling. She even went to pick-up supplies the same day when I asked to make a change in our design. I can keep going on and on about John and Donna. I have supplied various pictures of the work that John did. We have a cheap camera and I'm terrible at taking pictures. The pictures certainly do not show how his worked transformed our home. People often end the review by saying you will not be sorry if you use this company. John and Donna, I'm afraid, are unique in this day and age, they truly love what they do and provide a service that is a thing of the past!
Description of Work: I just started using Angie's list and I'm so glad I did as our experience has been great. I first researched Angie's list to find a trim carpenters to install crown trim for our house. I also wanted this company to help us update our kitchen as we installed a new range and backsplash. We wanted a custom cabinet built over the range that would match our current cabinets. We also wanted to spruce up our kitchen cabinets and Island with trim. I went through the list of available trim carpenters in Angie's list and had three companies come in to provide an estimate. I initially narrowed it down to a company called JIM'S CUSTOM WOODWORKING in GENEVA ILLINOIS. Since this was my first experience using Angie's list I did not take into account a few blemishes that Jim had. I first started this process in October and JIM'S CUSTOM WOODWORKING did not follow through. He was very prompt in providing an estimate but that is where it ends. I would call each week and he would tell me an estimate would be sent the following week. Bottom line is that if you want a trim carpenter I HIGHLY suggest you call TRIM CRAFT. TRIM CRAFT did not have reviews on Angie's list. I also needed some painting done and used JALAPENO PAINTERS, an Angie's List company that I suggest you use if you need painting. The owner of Jalapeno suggested I call John at Trim Craft as he is their preferred company for various trim work. John & Donna Brazill 630 669 0231 are a wife and husband team. Their customer service is so unique as they respond quickly, provide great service and they truly want to ensure you are pleased with their final product. I almost hate to write this review as John is a hidden gem. I just can't say enough about our experience. John helped us design ceiling crown, custom kitchen cabinetry, fireplace surround install & kitchen cabinet & Island trim.
