These guys are great. They not only 'check' everything, they actually clean and maintain it. They pull pieces out, wipe them down, spray them off, etc. They spend a good amount of time and when they are done, they walk you through everything they did. They are MUCH, MUCH better then the last company I used which simply 'checked' things and if it wasn't broke, they didn't touch it. With Freedom, I actually feel like my equipment will last longer because they are truly maintaining the equipment, not just my warranty. The price is also good compared to the competition and if you sign up for a two pack, it's even cheaper. One downside is on the professionalism, and that is not the person that comes out, it is just there back end systems. Even if you sign up for their 'yearly contract', you still need to call them and make an appointment, they don't call you. I've even had them forget that I already paid ahead, and they would have charged me again if I didn't remind them. So they could use a 'back office' upgrade, but the guys that do the work are very professional.

As for our back office, it seems you have called us on 05/03/2018 to schedule your appointment for your maintenance plan, and we did schedule you for 05/15/2018. Early in May this year, the weather was still a bit cold for us to be scheduling for A/C maintenance which is why you hadn't received a call from us that early in the summer, since we had a cool spring it took some time to warm up. If you hadn't called us on that day we would have definitely given you the call once we saw the weather had gotten warmer. You have a great rest of the summer!

Received reminder call the night before as promised. Then received another call the next day, as promised, when the technician was on the way. Appointment was for between 1:00 and 5:00 pm, and he arrived a few minutes before 1:00, which was great. Willie was the technician and he was quite friendly and personable. He was very knowledgeable and explained in detail what he would be checking. Everything went well and he answered all my questions clearly.

I've used Freedom H&A numerous times with pretty solid luck. The techs have been friendly to work with and gave good advice. This last time, I scheduled them to come service my AC's and they no-showed. After calling to inquire as to where the tech may be, I was told they tried my # a few times and wouldn't send someone out since I didn't answer. In today's age, please leave a voicemail at the minimum. If I'd have been left a message I'd have known a tech had called earlier in the day and called them back accordingly. I wasted a day off to wait on them. The person answering my inquiry AFTER I noted the 4hr "window' had expired, gave me a lot of attitude and was rude. I'd recommend finding someone more reliable and appreciative of your business, especially a loyal customer. Sad customer service...

Hello there! It seems you have felt for the past couple of years that your experience with our services was good as a matter of "solid luck". We'd like to explain that in the beginning processes, meaning from scheduling to meeting our appointment, we have always made it clear that we do need an answer to the call coming from our technicians or the office before we are able to send them out to your property whether or not you are schedule for that day in that time. On the day of our appointment we were scheduled with you for the time frame between 10 am and 2 pm, our first attempt at contacting you was just after 10am by the technician who in fact did leave a voicemail. Second, third and fourth attempts were made at contacting you while our technician who is being paid at a high amount per hour waiting to see if there was any "luck" reaching you so that we can send him out to you. Since we had no "luck" in receiving an answer, we had sent our technician to his next calls that were scheduled and did answer their phones even thought we had them scheduled later on that day and they were happy to have us by earlier than anticipated. At approximately 2:15pm you had called the office asking where our technician was, Mike had explained that we were unable to reach you even though we really did make many attempts to do so. Since you had called us back he had explained that once he was wrapping it up at the call he was on we would be able to send him by for you immediately. It seemed you were upset, and what you had said was, "well my appointment was between 10am and 2pm" , Mike then explained, " I know, but we could not reach you , but now that we know you are there we can send him now". You proceeded to repeat, " but my appointment was between 10am and 2pm!" , Mike again tried to explain, " I understand sir, but we could not reach you at that time, now that we can confirm that you are at the property I can sen my tech by right now". From that point, you became extremely irate and responded with, "this is ridiculous, I never received any calls or voicemail and you were supposed to be here between 10am & 2pm, I'll just find another company". It was at that point that Mike realized that the argument was really not going to be resolved by anything we could have done for you. With all do respect, we here at Freedom pride ourselves in staying consistent, and through trial and error we formulated an order of operation that work for us to keep our company efficient and cost effective so that we would not have to raise prices to cover any needless loss. Looking at your file history, you have been using us since 2015, our company has been in operation since 2006. The rules that we have in place were created well before 2015 and since then, because they worked for us, we have kept them consistent and we make sure to explain this to every customer we speak to on a daily basis. It'[Member Information Removed] not that we don't believe in luck, because fortune does have its place in this world yet we cannot rely on it for our work. The reason for that is, we cannot afford to run into bad luck, this kind of misfortune becomes extremely expensive and we try to minimize those losses as much as we can in order to not have to burden our customers with higher prices to cover them. This is truthfully the real reason why we cannot send our technicians to a property without confirmation that someone will be there to meet them there. Whether or not any voicemails are left or confirmations received from the day before or the fact that an appointment is made, we cannot rely on any type of luck regardless of any conversations that have happened before. Truthfully, luck is anything but "solid" , it'[Member Information Removed] fickle and can change in a split second, it can turn into extreme bad luck for no logical reason and although we believe that luck is a real thing, it'[Member Information Removed] not the most reliable feeling to count on. Willie was the technician and he called me 30 minutes before arrival and once he arrived he asked if there are any issue with the furnace and I said it stops sometimes and need to reset and he said he'll take a look while tune-up and he said the flame sensor was bad and he replaced it and changed $85 for it and in face that resolved the issue. Willie was very professional and did a good clean-up of the gas intake lines also and I highly recommend this company since the technician takes time to check the system very carefully and charged a very reasonable price for the parts.

I bought the Angies list deal for $49 for the Diagnostic charge and technician arrived and he diagnosed the issue quickly as faulty Transformer and replaced it and charged 216 + 49 = $265 which was a very steep charge just to replace a transformer.

First off I think punctuality is a must when it comes to respecting the time of your customers and I couldn't be happier with Rick the tech that came to our home today. He called to let me know he was on the way 30 mins before he arrived which was awesome. He arrived and removed his shoes upon entering through the door to our home which I thought was a great customer service gesture. Next we went to the unit located in the basement and upon inspecting the unit he noticed the thermocouple was bad since the pilot light would not remain lit. He was here for less than an hour and was able to get my unit back up and running. He also suggested to use the gas shut off valve when the unit is not being used for an extended period of time like in the spring and summer to avoid additional gas costs. I dont know if there's a more honest company out there but I can tell you Rick was an exemplary representative of Freedom Heating & Cooling and I'm definitely going to be referring them to everyone. Keep up the great work Rick and team.

I was unhappy and thought I should have had some service performed for the money paid.
Description of Work: I called for furnace service and inquired about the replacement of the heating and cooling systems when the tech arrived. Essentially, I was charged $69 for no service at all. I have since received several other quotes and opinions at no cost. I suppose it is all about the difference between a service call and a quote request and the latter is free.

Hello there and thank you for the review! With regards to the $69.00 service charge, there is always a charge for our technicians to go out, we do explain this very clearly when on the phone making appointments, it is very rare for any service company to send a technician out without a service charge, especially if you are looking for a repair tech to come out for a quote on repairs. What people seem to not be able to place a value on is the time that we put in, to tell you what the issue was. You see, technicians are very expensive if you want great ones to work for you. Their hourly wage including insurances, tools, gas and wear and tear on a van adds up and quite quickly, which is why service charges exist, it costs money for all those things and to keep an operation going to offer this service those expenses do have to be paid for. Many hold the misconception that there is virtually no cost to us unless repairs are made, which is untrue, a qualified technician does not just make money "per the job", they have an hourly rate that we pay for which is not anywhere close to the minimum of any wages that exist. As per your situation on that day we had went out to service your equipment, he did diagnose and figure out that it was your inducer motor that had been making the noises you had been concerned about, you had then told the technician that you were thinking about just purchasing a whole new unit because the cost of the repair was over $500.00. Most companies will come out, charge well over $100.00 for the service charge to just show up at your door, then charge you a minimum of $120.00 per hour at a minimum 1 hour for labor to diagnose the issue you had yet all we had charged you was $69.00 which we had included the diagnostic and the service charge together. lf you notice, there was diagnostics that were done, this is where most think that diagnosing a problem is not a service but it is. To diagnose, it takes knowledge obtained from schooling, tools, years of experience and time, if you can just imagine if someone asked for those things from you at no cost, what would your answer be to them? None of us want to waste anyone's time, we also do not want to be exploited for our talents, and to run an honest and successful company, it requires money to do so unfortunately. We pride ourselves on staying competitive, lucrative and honest with our clientele, we do not over charge nor push upselling to gain more money from anyone, but we do need to survive monetarily ....

So very glad I found Freedom HVAC on Angie'sList! Wish I had found them years earlier; would have saved me time, money and stressful headaches. A previous local vendor had visited my 3-flat repeatedly for a couple years, but I was constantly calling for either repeat repairs or additional repairs; I feel the money I paid for repairs and alleged preventative maintenance could likely total a new unit or two! Then I found Freedom and have been a happily loyal repeat customer for years. No matter which service tech visits for either a preventative annual service appointment or a surprise repair, each has always been very professional and helpful in explaining the situation, cost and options. I always feel better educated after each visit and always comfortable calling Freedom when the need arises. I would, and have, recommend Freedom HVAC for all heating and cooling needs.

Freedom Heating & Cooling has been servicing my house and 3 rental properties for the past few years. This time, I had a technician come to check on the furnace in my new rental property as my tenant was receiving high electriity bills. The technician was great. He looked very comfortable working with the electric furnace and was extremely patient while he investigated the possible causes. I enjoyed working with him tremendously. However, my tenant just now received an extremely high electricity bill again, and I contacted the office, not to complain at all, but to have the furnace serviced again. The lady who answered my call (I usually talk with Mike - he's also great!) was so nice and patient while I explained all detailes and to my surprise, she offered to send a technician again ASAP for free. I was fully ready to pay for this service call and did not expect they to offer that level of customer service. I've always been satisfied with them, but now I know why they have been awarded Angie's List SUPER SERVICE AWARD. I paid $479 for the previous service call (over 2 hrs and a new thermostat installation). My return appointment is tomorrow morning. I am hopeful and almost confident with their professionalism that they will solve the issues this time. Thanks so much for your professionalism and great services, Freedom Heating & Cooling!

In the middle of cooking Christmas dinner (these things never fail in July) our furnace went out. I thought it was likely the thermocouple, but figured it was too cold to trust my own ability to diagnose. I called Freedom at 11am on December 26th. They were the fourth call I'd made that morning looking for someone who could get out to us that day, but they were the first company to get back to me with an available technician. They showed up at 2pm and Guillermo got right to work. He replaced the thermocouple, but the pilot still wouldn't stay lit. He then replaced the gas valve, which did the trick. While doing the work he pointed out to me some discoloration on the front of my furnace, which he said was indicative of the furnace not being able to vent properly. After he left the heating system could not keep up with the cold even though it was running. Total was around $600. The next day I called to try to schedule a cleaning, but they were slammed with emergency calls that had to take priority, which I completely understand. I talked to one person on the 27th, who said he needed to talk to the tech who was at my house and that he'd contact me as soon as he heard from the tech. I called again the next day and was told the same thing by another person. Neither of them ever called me back, which is my only complaint. I let a few weeks pass in the hopes they'd call me when they were no longer slammed but couldn't wait any longer so I reached out on January 15th. They apologized for not getting back in touch with me although offered no explanation for why. We scheduled a visit for the next afternoon, but a few hours after I got off the phone one of their techs, Rick, called to say he was in the area and could stop by right away. He came by, cleaned up the boiler and was on his way in less than an hour. Our furnace now keeps up with the cold quite a bit better.
Description of Work: 1st call: Boiler failed on Christmas day. Gas valve was bad and needed to be replaced. 2nd call: after replacing the bad gas valve the boiler needed to be cleaned so it would heat the house properly.

After re-scheduling my appointment twice, the technician showed up, inspected the unit, and within 2 minutes told me that the heat exchanger was cracked. He told me that there was no need to do any other work since the heat exchanger had a crack on it. He shut off my furnace. He told me that I "might" be getting carbon monoxide in my house. When I asked him if he had a carbon monoxide tester, he said that he had one in his truck but he didn't go get it to check for carbon monoxide. Instead, he shut the system down, called his office and quoted me $3600 for a new furnace. After he left, I turned on the unit and it has worked fine.

You see, by law, if you have a cracked heat exchanger we are required to shut down the furnace for safety reasons. Beyond us turning the furnace off, once we leave, you are then responsible for anything that happens after you decide to turn the furnace back on. It is the reason why we had you sign a "Hazardous condition form" we cannot be liable for what happens after we leave, from there on out, once you decide you'd like to turn the furnace back on, it is at your own risk and not due to the negligence of our company. We believe you may not be in full understanding of what it means to have a cracked heat exchanger, it would be in your best interest to do some research, we assure you that it will be worth your time to do so. You'll understand why our tech did not get the carbon monoxide tester to test for carbon monoxide leaks, it is because he did not want to charge for the labor time to do so, since there is no guarantee that there will be carbon monoxide leaking at the time he was there, giving the false sense that it will not happen at all. With cracked heat exchangers, it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when, the carbon monoxide will start to leak and it's only a matter of time when it will start to do so. The functionality of the furnace will seem normal because all parts do still work as they would normally, but it is not an indicator that your system is truly safe to run. In fact, we may not consider doing the install at this point since you've had the heat running with the heat exchanger cracked, since it causes unsafe conditions for our technicians as well as yourself. Keep in mind, we are all very paranoid of fraudulent behaviors with service companies, we all have reservations about who is just trying to make a quick buck so we totally understand why you would be concerned. We strongly suggest thought that you get a 2nd and 3rd because we really want you to make sure that we are not making this up and that we are truly concerned for your safety, for we feel it is in your best interest to make the proper moves in order to keep yourself safe. Our hope is that those whom are reading this response have learned about the dangers of having a system with a cracked heat exchanger, it's not something that anyone should take lightly, if carbon monoxide leaks, there are no indications like a smell or smoke, the unit will not act differently due to this issue, everything will seem normal, and we'd hate to see someone become effected by this issue because it can turn deadly if left alone. I took advantage of a Angie’s list coupon for annual maintenance. The work was done on time and in an efficient manner. I asked about something for the acidic condensate discharge and I was told that I would receive a quote for putting in something to neutralize the acid. They never got back to me.
