I tried Freedom on 12/6/2016 based on Angie's List reviews. The technician came out, did a furnace cleaning, and told me a part might someday need to be replaced. One week later, that very part failed and I paid for service again to have the part repaired. It seemed a strange coincidence but decided to trust them and renew service the following year. 12/15/2017 Freedom was scheduled to do a furnace cleaning/humidifier inspection between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. They called around 8:40 a.m. and asked if they could come an hour early but I couldn't do 9 a.m. On the call I asked if we could begin with the humidifier inspection and repair and see what the total came to before we did the furnace inspection. They told me no, because their $70 furnace repair was a promotion. Fine. I waited for them to arrive. I waited at home until 2 p.m. They did not call and they did not ring the doorbell. At 2 p.m. I called to ask what was going on. The woman I spoke with told me that they had called around 11 and the technician had rung the buzzer. There are no missed calls on my phone. No one rang the (extremely loud) buzzer. I said someone had to be mistaken. I had been there all day. No one was here. She continued to insist that they had called me and the technician had been there and called and rang the buzzer. Perhaps he rang a different buzzer or called another number. No one called here, no one rang the buzzer. She told me I'd have to wait until after 4 or so for someone to be available. Someone was not telling the truth and that person wasn't me. I asked what happened to my appointment and she insisted that I must be wrong, and what did I expect them to do? I asked what they were going to do to make this right and how were they going to compensate for my time waiting for them and keep my business. She said "We don't need your business, we are not compensating you, I'm busy," and hung up the phone. I won't claim that Freedom rigged a part to break in 2016. Regardless how suspicious it seemed, that's crazy. However, someone was lying on December 2017, and rather than own up or apologize, they were rude and aggressive on the phone. They didn't call, they didn't show up, and they literally told me that they didn't want my business, so great--they don't have it.

Response from Freedom Heating & Cooling
We thank you so much for the "F" rating, for it gives us our chance to explain the chain of events that lead to this review. In December of 2016 you did call on us via Angie's list to have a service done on your furnace, and our technician did let you know that the (flame sensor) was getting ready to fail, it was documented and the documentation was signed stating that you did acknowledge that you were told about it and refused the repair at that time. It's actually not that strange that the part he mentioned had failed, because he had checked it and the flame sensor was on it's way to failing which is the only reason to mention that there is a problem. In that event, we had offered you the repair once we headed back minus an additional service charge which is the normal way of charging because you had complained then that the cost was too high and we did make accommodations for you then. In that case there really is no odd coincidence, our tech simply warned you on what can happen, and then it happened, simply because he knew how to check for these things. As for this day in question, there were many events that did lead up to this point in our current relationship. The day before your appointment you had called the office and explained that you did not want the furnace clean & check done and you had only wanted the Humidifier check done simply because the humidifier was priced at $39.00, when it was explained to you that the $39.00 price was a discounted rate because you had a $69.00 furnace clean & check scheduled the same day, you were very upset and initially wanted to cancel the appointment yet told the office person not to because you wanted to call around for other prices. Apparently, there were no other prices that were appealing to you, so you wanted us to come out for you. Technician placed a call to you, asking if we could swing by earlier for you and you had refused for us to come in early. We still kept you on the schedule and after our tech was done with his previous call and he called, us at the office had called, numerous times, trying to see if we can confirm that you were there in order for us to stop by and we received no answer, we then sent the technician by your address, pressed buzzers, knocked on whatever he could knock on. After about 5 minutes we had to move him on to his next call. On your review you stated that you had made the appointment for between 10am - 12pm, which is not our scheduling window at all, we do 4 hour windows for arrival for every customer to make sure we can get repairs done depending on the timing that was needed, now, if the appointment was for between 10am-12pm, we are curious as to why you would wait until 2pm to call and see what was going on? The truth is, we did call at around 11am and we made every effort to reach you and there was no response what so ever. When we had experienced this before, is when people get another company out to see if they can get a better price and realized they cannot, then the customer tends to call back and say, " hey where are you guys" thinking we will jump and head back, when we have to move on with our day, these customer types get upset because we cannot play this type of game with them. Then we get an (*F*) review and claims that we had set up parts to fail for us to make a small margin of profit on a quick repair. It has become exhausting to see this over and over again. It does amaze us all here at the office that people often think that we do not pay our technicians for work, nor do we pay for premium parts for repairs. At the end of it all you had spoken to a manager who was still trying to work with you, she said we would still get a tech out for you but after 4pm and without charging overtime pricing and you had refused and told her you wanted to be compensated otherwise you would not do business with us again, we gladly will not take your business, we have many wonderful customers which whom we have built a trusting relationship with, which we enjoy working with and helping, we want to be there for their needs rather than play these games. We wish you the best of luck finding a company that will do exactly what you want and when you want it at the price you request it to be, unfortunately for you, it will not be us. Have a wonderful holiday season.

I purchased 2 coupons for HVAC clean/checks from Angies List. The tech was on time, efficient, and courteous. Some additional work was needed and the cost was fair and the work was done immediately. Very happy with that portion of things. Our one challenge was scheduling the actual inspections. On checkout a box popped up saying that a representative from the company would call me to schedule. That took nearly 3 weeks, and then the first appointment was another few weeks out. Since this was preventative maintenance, and not critical, I can understand the time between the phone call and booking the appointment, but hoped the company would have reached out sooner to confirm a day/time.

From my first call with the owner, Pete, a couple of months ago regarding a possible need for a hot water tank replacement, I immediately knew Freedom would be my 'go to' company when I had no choice. No pressure to convince me to replace my noisy tank immediately. Rather than that, I was advised to purchase a water sensor to forewarn me when a leak started. Who does that? Only a reputable business man. Thursday night, that darn leak started. Left a message with a service center requesting a 'first thing' Friday need for someone to come out and Friday AM, Pete was at my home to drain the tank with install scheduled for later that day. Great team came out for the install, even offering to help move things out of the way & put back in place. Freedom will be my first & only call moving forward. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a fair price & great customer service

It went well. The problem is the service was scheduled a month ago and the company had to reschedule a month later. Luckily, the weather has been pretty mild in the past month so it did not affect the function of the heating system.

Willy came promptly and he was fantastic. Answered all my questions, educated me about my furnace, and even told me I would cut my gas bills if I started using the much cheaper 1 month fiber filters instead of more expensive pleated 3 month filters! Willy was a delight to work with and I look forward to having Freedom Heating and Cooling and Willy as my new HVAC company, as my previous HVAC guy has retired after servicing my heater and air conditioner for 35 years!

Furnace went fine but on the boiler the tech said we needed to get a part replaced soon. After he left the part started leaking water at quite a high rate. Had to have him return that night to correct that. He said to call for an appointment for next day to get the part replaced. He came the next morning and replaced the part but a trip charge was added to the bill (for parts and labor). Had to have him come back again to stop a leak from another pipe on the boiler. No additional charges and since that time no further issues.

I purchased their service using a coupon. Their first technician came out and checked my furnace and claimed there was a wire that was disconnected that he did connect and that my system should be great. I was leaving town for a week. I came back to find out my house was a sauna very hot. The furnace was blowing hot air more than what is set on thermostat. I turned thermostat off but heat was still going on. I called them and they sent in another technician. He looked at system and told me I need a new circuit board. He said he is going to charge me for his time. I asked him why since the first guy missed to find out the problem. He called office and told no worries and that I will be hearing back from their office next day as it was too late to call in for new part. He said they will install part without any charge for labor. They did not call me. I called them to find out they did not do anything. Manager said she will call back once she finds out pricing. She called later said it would cost me 650 for both parts and labor. I asked her what is cost for part and what is for labor. She went off stating that something must have happened and it was not their fault and that I should find another service to do the job for me. I was really disappointed to say the least with this manager as both technicians were nice and prompt and courteous. I will not use them again and would not refer anyone to them. Do not be fooled by their coupon way to get their feet in your house.

We'd like to thank you for bringing this issue to the public so we can explain our version of events. It seems that many have a misconception as to how the diagnostics of these systems are done and what is expected when issues are found. Many, such as yourself in this case, seem to believe that if a part fails, after a diagnosis of another issue, it is because the technician did not find the issue previously and that the part was faulty the whole time and our tech just didn't catch it. This perception is just not true in any way shape or form. Our first technician whom met you on 10/27/17 had don a diagnostic search for the initial issue that you had had with the furnace not turning on at all. Once he realized that a thermostat wire was removed form a terminal, he quickly fixed it and had the system running, which was noted and you had signed the work order where it - was in fact - noted. Upon leaving the unit had been working, and no further calls to report that there were any further issues with the system. On 11/06/17, you had given us a call again, saying that the heating system would not turn off after it turns on, and you had come in that day to find your home feeling like you had explained to be a sauna. We sent our 2nd technician out to diagnose what issues you were having that day, he recommended that you will need to have your circuit board replaced which is what he found to be the issue, which was aside from the issue you had previously. When our 2nd tech quoted the cost of what it could be, you had turned very angry with him, as he understood it, he went ahead and just charged you for the time he was there and left it up to you to decide what or how you wanted this repaired in the future. It was at that moment that you had let him know that you refused to pay him anything, and the only thing you would be willing to pay was for the circuit board. Although this wouldn't have been the normal way to handle this for us, we went ahead and found the circuit board and upon finding the price for labor and repair we did call you and quoted you the price of repair, also stating that we have no problem sending our tech back for repairs as long as the previous bill for the diagnostic was paid. You began to tell us about how after the 1st technician was there, the unit stopped working directly after he left, and that it wasn't your problem that he had miss-diagnosed what the problem was, yet, when you had called us for the 2nd technician to come out, you had explained that you had been out of town for a week and your house was a sauna when you had arrived. The 1st technician that had visited you had also stated that you had also yelled at him when the subject of the bill came up, saying that we are overcharging for hardly doing any work because all we are trying to do is take money from you. When you had called in to speak to the manager, it was not to negotiate with her yet to tell her what you're intentions will be about paying or not paying for this matter, it was in a very rude and aggressive manner demeaning her with phrases such as, "you don't seem to pay attention to what I'm telling you". It was unfortunate that the conversation had come to this point, and our manager realized that a business relationship with you would not be a fit for us any longer, so she stated that it may be best if you contacted another company in order to fix the issues you have there from now on. Beyond all of this, you had requested the part number for the circuit board, and when we explained that we had not had paperwork with us to tell you, you got even more upset and finally hung up the phone. As for our side of the story, we are unable to help those whom refuse to pay their bills, then threaten us with bad reviews in order to get what they believe they deserve which the case is for many times comes down to not wanting to pay. What we provide is a service, and we cannot provide a service without the proper payment for them. We are not and have never been a company that gouges or charges for things that are not needed in order to just make quick money. It is unfortunate that in society today, many are reluctant to treat people with respect in order to save a few bucks then threaten to smear their name if that doesn't work. We are now more reluctant to do business with people whom do such things, through the years we have come to realize that the more we condone this behavior and submit to it, the more it drives up our cost, and the more it drives up our cost, the more our valued customers will be having to pay for these services. To conclude, you still haven't paid the moneys you owe for the work that has been done thus far, we hope for your sake you will find a company that will offer you the same services as we have for no cost to you. We thank you for teaching us this amazing lesson.

I purchased a coupon for Freedom to do a clean and check on a boiler system. That work went well. However, they told me the system needed repairs and left an estimate for the repairs totally $982. They said it would take 3-4 hours to do the job. Since it was at the end of the heating season I decided to postpone the work until fall. I thought the estimate was high, so I asked an expert on Just Answers (an online service) if the estimate for these repairs seemed reasonable. He told me the parts in the estimate were way overpriced, so I contacted two other companies. Both gave me estimates over the phone. One was for $500-$600 and the other was for $350. I had the work done a few days later for $350 by a highly rated local company. The work took less than 90 minutes. I think this company gave a dishonest estimate and I'm glad I was not in a situation where the work had to be done immediately. Otherwise, I would have gone ahead with the work and paid nearly 3 times what it actually cost me. My advice.... be cautious when dealing with this company and get a second estimate, if possible.

Response from Freedom Heating & Cooling
Hello there! We thank you so much for allowing us a platform to share our side of events as we saw them unfold. With respect to the price quote you've received from us, we are certain that the other quotes are not in line with the repairs that we are offering for the price. We would love to know the company that had done the work for you for almost 1/3 of what we can offer, because that means their prices for retail are much less than our wholesale prices that we are able to attain, we'd love to know whom they are so that we can purchase our products through them rather than our vendors. We also are having a difficult time understanding how anyone could give a quote with certainty over the internet or through a phone call. There is much more to estimating than just pricing parts, labor time has to be considered in all repairs, and these types of repairs require someone to come out to the work area to see what will be needed as far as making sure all work can be done in the time allotted for the particular estimate since each house is very different from each other. So here is what we can do to prove our point in this, the repairs we offered were as follows; Draining - filling and purging the boiler at an hourly labor rate, FB 38 Feeder, #30 external tank, then with miscellaneous pipes and fittings. We are confident in the price we quoted for these repairs, so we will be putting our money where our mouth is. If you can brandish absolute proof from the company who has done this work for you legitimately who is license-bonded and insured and has done the exact repairs that we have quoted you for, we are willing to offer you a maintenance contract with our company for the year at no cost to you which is valued at $149.00. Once we receive the information, we will confirm the information with the company you had chosen and once all is confirmed, we will send out the maintenance contract. We thank you so much, and hope you have a wonderful Holiday season.
