asbestos removal

Description of Work: Removed existing roofing materials from house. This included one top-layer of asphalt shingles and an underlying layer of asbestos-cement tiles, including any other roofing materials as needed, such as tar paper, flashing, etc. The back porch roof was not included in this work, as it did not have asbestos-cement tiles. To meet county and municipality code regulations, work was performed in a manner that ensured safety for the workers and anyone in the surrounding area. Additionally, to ensure that no asbestos fibers fell through any gaps in the roofing boards, the crawl space under the roof was treated with an encapsulant and also protected by plastic sheeting which was then safely removed from the premises. All high work was performed using stable scaffolding, to enable bagging of old roofing materials before lowering them to the ground for removal. Contractor provided documentation showing that roofing materials has been delivered to an appropriate dumping facility.

+ -1 moreIt went very well. It was a requirement that existing roofing materials not be dropped to the ground, so scaffolding was erected around house. The workmen worked from the top of the scaffolding, while wetting down the roofing material during removal. Roofing materials were then double-bagged and lowered safely to the ground, then removed from premises. The work took four days, but without any inconvenience to the homeowners. To ensure that no asbestos fibers could get into the attic crawlspace through gaps in the roof boards, the contractor took additional steps to prevent that. We felt that we and our neighbors could not have been more thoroughly protected from harmful asbestos fibers being released into the air.
Description of Work: Provider removed existing roofing materials (one layer of asphalt shingles and one layer of asbestos-cement tiles) from house, in accordance with all applicable regulations.
