Ex-Stink Plumbing & Sewer

The problem began with a sluggish toilet flush and a mild odor in the basement. We already had unsuccessfully tried to rod out the drain about 4 weeks earlier, which slightly enlarge a hole through the roots that had infiltrated it. We knew the odor signaled an imminent problem. We turned to Anglie's List to find a sewer expert. Ex-Stink sent Harold out within 3 hours of our call. He spent quite a bit of time with my husband going over all the possible sources of the problem, but the roots were the obvious one and they were now too dense to rod out either from the house, or the clean-out between the house and the curb. Harold worked with us to use our Angie's List coupon to best advantage, and even though we sure wished we didn't have to spend the money at this time, we felt we were in the hands of someone who was knowledgeable, empathic, and of high integrity. He and his crew were back the next day to excavate next to the house and remove the section of pipe that now looked as if a log was packed into it. The following day they completed the work,filled in the hole, and we were thrilled to have our indoor plumbing liberated with a long term repair. Thanks, Harold and everyone at Ex-Stink!

They did a great job, explained everything and showed me where I may have problems down the road, but were completely honest about the fact that nothing needed to be done now beyond the deal I purchased. Would definately use them again and will have them come back to do an annual service of my sewer lines.

They were very helpful on seeing if I was candidate for this big deal, but unfortunately it was going to cost extra money because they would have to do it in my basement rather than outside.

First off, the person who answered the phone was super nice and helpful!! Most places act like I should be begging for their business, but these guys were very accomodating.

It turned out very well. After they were on site, we found out that the particular set up we have did not apply to the service we purchased. They offered us to have no charge for the service or to have a video inspection only. It ended up being just fine and it was not necessary to cut. I did not realize there was a large machine approximately 350 pounds that would need to go down the stairs for the cutting. In the future, it would better help if there as more description about the actual services offered. We were very pleased with the service and if we had a problem again, we would hire them.

Andy and Jason called a half hr before arrival, as they promised they would. Both were very professional and friendly. Andy explained exactly what they would be doing, what to expect (extra charge if they had any problems with the access point), and was always willing to answer any questions I had. Andy explained how the roots get into the sewer lines, showed me (via the camera) how some of the lines have shifted, he also explained how and why we need to do this on a yearly basis. Even though they did run into some problems with the initial access point they were still very professional about it and were able to find another location to access the sewer line. Even though I did end up paying an extra fee since they had to go through a different access point I was made aware of the possible charge up-front and since I was able see the problems they initially had and all they work they did after I had no problem paying the extra amount. I liked that they were never pushy, always had a smile and cleaned up after themselves. I will definitely be using their services again!!!

The basement pipe had a hole and had to put a pan under the pipe to catch the water, I went on Angies List and found a deal that would expire that day. I took a chance and called them. I was told at first that they might be able to come out the next day, I told the tat I needed someone that day. Harrold called and said he would come out that day. I got one man not the two that the deal stated.in the deal. Harrold was prompt , called me several times letting me know when he would arrive. He came in and assessed the problem, went to buy supplies and completed the job. We had nice conversations, he was friendly and knew what he was doing.

The company sent a nice person to check out if the sewer line was backed up. They identified the problem but they thought I might have to take down the tree in front of my house in order to fix the problem. That's why I contacted another company to get a second opinion. Then it turned out that the estimate for the work given by Ex-Stink was quite a bit higher than the company that ultimately came to do the work.

Came in, assessed job, and scheduled time to come back and do it. Got it done in time they allotted. Got permits and everything else. Made it very seemless from start to finish.

the work was fine, but the situation left me with a bad taste. i purchased an angie's list deal from them which seemed to cover the service i wanted. when they arrived on site they said my drains required more work than the deal covered and charged me triple the price. i let them complete the work and paid them, but wouldn't use them again. didn't feel right to me.

They were available the same day I called and arrived promptly, with a courtesy call when they were on their way. The problem was quickly identified as the ejector pump. They had one in their truck and it was replaced within the hour. I will definitely call them again. They were friendly and efficient.

Overall it was a good experience, the only exception being their incredible pricing policy (see below). Everybody I have dealt with was very nice. April, the receptionist, was professional and easy to deal with. Andy, who came to do the job, and his helper were also very nice and cheerful. They had to use the smallest blade at first, because it turned out that the sewer line was obstructed by roots. Then they made a couple of passes with other sizes of blades, finishing with the largest size that fit the sewer line, 6 inches. They removed the roots and debris that they pulled out. The job was done well, and I have no issues with it. However, I must say that the price was the highest I have ever paid for rodding in Chicago. I bought Angie's List coupon for $119 for rodding and camera inspection, thinking that I was saving money. (Actually, the coupon had expired, but to my delight April said that they were going to honor it anyway.) As it turned out, the company makes a distinction between "rodding" and "extensive rodding", so that "rodding" means only one pass. After one pass with the smallest blade, Andy recommended "extensive rodding", to which I agreed, because obviously I wanted the job to be completed properly. I expected an extra cost, but not as high as it turned out to be. When they were finished, Andy said that it was going to cost $379 extra if I wanted that camera pass, and $279 without the camera. In effect, I ended up paying $399 for rodding, with the coupon and without a camera pass. I later clarified their pricing policy with April, who confirmed that without the coupon and with the camera, their regular price would have been $779, and that they charge $125 for each extra pass. The other companies I have used in Chicago routinely make several passes with various sizes of blades, and do not charge for them separately. Usually they understand that the customer expects the complete job for the agreed price. When they learn that I have a clean-out access in front of the building, I usually get a discounted price and pay about $250 for the entire job. I own two buildings and I have had sewer lines rodded many times. The reason that I will not use this company again is that they are way too expensive. I would caution their future customers to ask in detail what the price covers ahead of time.

We had an excellent experience with this company. The plumber arrived promptly as scheduled. He worked efficiently and kept us informed along the way. He answered our questions, addressed our concerns, and offered reasonable suggestions. I had anticipated that since this was a "pre-paid" service, he might do the bare minimum and be on his way. This plumber actually worked on our system for over 2 hours, replacing a part, and testing it. The additional charge for services was very reasonable. We would definitely use this company again.
