Thiesse charges about $150 per hour. I don't know if this is competitive, but it seems a bargain to me since they have been totally successful every time I have used them. I had no hot water pressure in an upstairs bathroom basin. Other plumbers said the pipes were so corroded that their inner diameters were blocked, and a fix would require expensive wall demolition and a complete replacement of water pipes from the water heater to the bathroom. They said I should learn to live with it. Thiesse guessed that there was debris from my hot water heater in the faucet mechanism, and they fixed it promptly with a suction tool! Now my hot water faucet has plentiful water pressure. I had a persistent faucet leak in my upstairs bathtub that ran up my water bills and stained the tub with persistent rust stains. Other plumbers said it wasn't so bad, I should learn to live with it, as a fix would require expensive demolition of tile. Thiesse said they had a complete replacement cartridge for the inner faucet mechanism, and fixed the problem in about 15 minutes. No damage. I had a broken sewer tile in my downspout-to-sewer connection; my downspout was backed up and did not drain. I had an estimate of $2200 to fix the problem, using tractor mounted digging equipment that would leave me with damage to my and my neighbor's lawns, and possible froken sidewalk sections. I would have to pay other contractors to fix the lawns and sidewalk. Thiesse fixed the problem for $950 using a man with a shovel! No collateral damage! I had a sour sewer gas smell whenever I took a shower or flushed a toilet. Thiesse's man improvised a solution by mixing up some concrete and fixing a section of my basement wall alongside myt sewer catch basin. Problem solved.
Description of Work: I have used Thiesse three times. Each time was a successful and innovative experience. 1. Thiesse fixed my upstairs basin low hot water pressure, and fixed a persistent bathtub faucet leak. Other plumbers had said to learn to live with both problems, that fixes would require expensive and damaging replacement of plumbing in the walls. Thiese fixed both problems quickly, cheaply ($200 parts and labor), and without any damage. 2 Thiesse replaced a broken tile in a downspout-to-sewer connection. Other estimates were over $2000, with damage to my and my neighbor's lawns from tractor mounted digging equipment that would be my responsibility to fix. Thiese did the job with a shovel for $950, with no lawn damage and no additional cost over their estimate. 3. Thiesse eliminated a sour gas smell in my house by sealing the sewer catch basin from my basement for $300.

The overall experience was very positive, and we are happy with the work. There were two minor issues that arose during the process, but they were handled quickly, professionally, and to our satisfaction. I was very impressed because these situations were handled with grace and a real desire to please me. I liked that they made me feel like I was important to them. When the plumbing inspector came to check the work, he told me that Thiesse has a terrific reputation with the village and that they always do good work.

They did well, and they followed up. They are diligent and resourceful. They did some research, and found some part that was necessary because it was an unusual faucet. They got the designer faucet from another country. They were able to find a part that would do the trick.

Very easy to deal with over the phone. Called and spoke to receptionist and got an appointment for the following morning for routine sewer rodding & basement floor drain cleaning. The plumber was on time with his equipment, the job held no surprises and was completed within the minimum time frame with no surcharges. Detailed receipt & notes provided on site. We love our plumber!

When presented with a specific problem they did OK (ie. the drain is clogged) but the plumber sent out was INCREDIBLY slow moving, to the point where I had to move him along on the job and get him out the door. They charge by the hour and to see someone moving incredibly slow is disheartening -- and I felt the bills were too big for the type of work they did. Would not recommend them for troubleshooting. I have since found MUCH better plumbing service from other providers that I found on Angie's List!
Description of Work: Called Thiesse when I needed work done at a rental property I own, as well as occasional work at my home. Ranged from clearing a drain to fixing small leaks, etc. They did work off and on for me during 2007-2008.

It was very difficult to find the replacement part because the company would not respond. It is an Israeli faucet and we couldn’t ever get anyone to respond to us. They finally found a new replacement part at some shop they work with in the city. They are a very good plumber and we've used them before. They do the job and they do it well. They are professional and polite. The price is reasonable and they are responsive. They don't give up.

They are great. We spent $115 on that service. They also repaired a laundry tub for us in 2009 and checked some drains. We used them in 2007 as well when we bought our house and they checked our plumbing out and routed everything and we spent about $ 282 on that. They were good and gave us advice and they are also local. They are a small company and they always come on time, do the completely and quickly. We would tell other members that they are very reliable, their show up on time and they work quickly. Their quotes and prices are realistic and fair. We have seen the same plumber a couple of times and we would highly recommend them.

They fixed one of the showerheads and then found a problem with the second bathroom where we had blue/green gunk coming out of the bath faucet. The guy spent a lot of time running the bath and emptying it to see if he could flush out the gunk but this did not work. He did not know the source of the issue and said he had to go back to the office to consult with a colleague to get more ideas. A few days later we called them to see what they were going to do. Thiesse came back (a different guy) to troubleshoot and still couldn't find the source of the problem. In the meantime my husband did his own investigations and actually figured out a potential source on his own. He called Thiesse, they came back (a different guy) and luckily, this was the issue and they fixed it. The bill for the first 2 visits came to about $500 for labor (and another $100 for parts we ordered)...we thought this was really expensive for spending 3 hours filling and emptying our bathtub and not identifying the source of the problem. We complained about this and Thiesse did not charge us for the third visit when they actually fixed the problem. Overall I was surprised that Thiesse's plumbers (with many many years experience according to them) were not able to troubleshoot and solve this problem. They were at a total loss over how to proceed. My husband - with absolutely NO plumbing background or experience - worked it out himself through a basic approach of elimination (after all, only so many working parts in a plumbing system!). The Thiesse team were always professional and courteous, just not as proactive and knowledgeable as I would have liked. I also think they should have offered to waive the fee for the third visit without us having to complain first.

Response from Thiesse Plumbing
I would just like to say that we were not the first plubers to try and resolve this issue, but we were the plumbers who finally did FIX the problem as far as I am aware to date. The husband was not the source of telling us to replace the anode rods in the water heater, we suggested this be done after our first vist as stated directly on the customer invoice they received. We were trying to decide the best "cost effective" resolution for the customer, 1) Replacement of the heater ( hoping it would resolve the problem or 2) Replace the anodes in hopes of resolving the problem, but , if not they would spend even more money on additional work/replacement. Our company is not about how many times we can visit your house, it's about how we can solve the problem and sometimes in unusual situations it means spending time and doing a process of elimination "especially" after it problem has been tweek or played with by plumbers before us not knowing what things they have tried before us. For example, when we took apart the shower faucet, the previous plumber removed important screens to catch debris and never replaced them. This was something that we found during that process of elimination.

We've used Thiesse many times over the years and they have always been responsive and have solved the problem. Very reliable.
Description of Work: Some of things we've used Thiesse for over the years include: 1. a water pipe that burst when it got too cold, 2. broken hot water dispenser (in this case, they told us that our dispenser was still under warranty and they helped us order a new one and installed it). 3. low shower pressure - they discovered something had been installed incorrectly and they fixed the problem. In all our dealings with Thiesse, they have been professional and quick to respond. Whenever we have a plumbing related issue, they are our first call.

We had two fixtures that needed work - our kitchen sink faucet and an upstairs toilet that needed a new valve. The plumber was already familiar with our Kohler faucet and replaced the necessary parts right from his truck. The toilet was done just as quickly. The plumber was prompt and clearly very experienced. We use Thiesse for all of our on-going maintenance needs. My only ding, and it's probably not fair given the profession, but they always look like they just crawled out from under a sink!

Excellent. We have used this plumber for a couple years, and have been very happy with them. They were punctual and professional, and always have cleaned up after they finish their work. This last visit was no exception. Our kitchen drains were completely blocked up; they explained the work that they were doing in detail, showed us first hand where the problems were, and did not try to push off on us services that were not needed. My "B" grade on responsiveness is given only because they have been at times a little difficult to contact initially in order to set-up an appointment, but once they call back, they are on the ball, timely and responsive. They may be slightly more pricey than previous plumbers I've used in the past, but quite frankly, I'd rather pay a bit more for the quality work that they do. I definately recommend them, and will hire them again.

We were a little disappointed that they came in over budget on a straightforward task. There was a travel charge to get to our house about 1.5 miles away from their shop. Seemed a little much to pay $20 for that. Shouldn't jobs be scheduled to take advantage of locale? Otherwise they were good. I'll use them again but ask that they include travel in their estimate.

I got an appointment for the next day which I was not expecting. Bill from Thiesse was very prompt. He worked on the drain for about 1/2 hour and replaced the two other pieces quickly. $33.55 of my cost was for the tub spout. I bought the shower head myself. When he was done replacing parts and testing the drain on the tub he also went to the basement to look for any leaks. Everything works fine now and we are satisfied with the work.

I got the referral from another plumber who started the job but didn't have the expertise to finish. They were very responsive and came out quick. Dale came out and was pretty straight forward and seemed to know what he was doing. The only complaints I have is that they were late a couple days which turned it into a 3 day job (and they don't work past 3PM). A friend of mine who is gutting his house (and is an experienced plumber) came over to check out the work since he had the exact same set up. He was surprised at how long it took and how much they charged. Granted it was a relatively small space and there were some hiccups, but 12 hours over 3 days seemed excessive. I was expecting to pay around $1000 (which is what he quoted, but apparently there was 4 additional hours of unexpected work). You also have to pay travel time so if they get there late and won't stay past three, you pay for it. I probably paid for at least an hour extra based on that alone.

Response from Thiesse Plumbing
The member e-mailed us photos of said work to be done "correct illegal waste, vent and waters" we quoted a verbal price according to the picture of $1,000.00. The final price was $1,069.02 for the work above. We did our best quote by phone utilizing only a single photo, we only went over by less that $ 70.00. When we were at his home, he asked Dale to do some additional work that was NOT previously discussed and it included the following: Install owners garbage disposal, when we looked at it, there were parts missing so the member ran out at that time to purchase an new one while we were still on the job site, while installing the disposal he asked us to install the basket strainer on adjacent sink and replace both p-traps. We also hooked up his dishwasher, he asked us to install the island sink faucet but when we looked at it , there were parts missing, so the member ran out again to purchase a new faucet. Upon installing his new faucet we noticed the size of the existing shut off valves would not fit the new faucet so we had to install new shut off valves. He asked Dale to hook up the basement bar sink installing new waters, basket strainer and waste piping. Cost for additional work as follows: time was 4 1/2 hours at a labor cost of $504.00 material cost was $93.21 Not extreme considering the additional work, I believe it was appropriate. The member also asked Dale several times "are we still in budget?' and Dale's response was the same each time "NO - we are going over!" My name is Amy, and I am the business owner of Thiesse Plumbing, Inc., we have been around for 64 years (same family) and it is discouraging when a report is made about our company when a lot of the pieces are missing, in this report it was the "additional work requested" that was missing giving other readers a FALSE impression of our company, this was in MY opinion NOT a case of dishonesty or misleading in any way, but someone whom doesn't understand the price between a true licensed tradesman and a "handyman".
