Jack came in and replaced some lighting fixtures and added a new one. It was complicated because my home's previous owner had done some DIY repairs and the wires were all over the place. He came in the first day and determined what he'd have to buy. I had bought some fixtures, but they weren't code compliant for the locations. He was busy with other clients, so we couldn't schedule again for over a week. He did a great job. About $130 of the cost was parts, the rest was labor.
Description of Work: He added new wiring to a downstairs closet so I could turn on the existing light and a new fixture with the same switch. He also replaced a different closet's light and an exterior motion sensor light.

Jack would not let us explain the situation of our electrical needs. We were not angry about prior work that had been done, just foolish for having let it go incomplete for so long. We had a friend, union electrician, completely wire a bathroom (several outlets and switches) but I didn't have the actual outlets and switches, etc. at the time to put in. We ended up just letting it go for a very long time. I must of used some buzz words that scared him off. He assumed it had been a bad job (experience) and abrutly and firmly said he was not interested in the job...did not want to go in after anorther electrican and try to finish his work and would not hear what the actual situation.

Jack came over, the same day that I called, to take a look at the service panel and give me an estimate on the time and cost. He explained in more detail the issues identified during the home inspection and pointed out several other code violations the inspector had not noted. However, because I was selling the condo, he did not try to pressure me to do the additional work. Jack also told me up-front that it was a larger job than he normally handles, but that he could do the work, and we scheduled an appointment for two days later. He arrived on time for the appointment, checked the service panel again to confirm the size and types of circuit breakers needed, and then went out to get the circuit breakers. He had to drive to the city's northwest side to get the breakers because of the age of the service panel and then had to make a second trip because he'd gotten the wrong size for one of them but he still completed all of the work on time and on budget.
Description of Work: Corrected a few code violations related to the electrical service panel for my condominium unit: eliminated spliced wire inside the service panel; replaced two 20-amp duplex circuit breakers with two new 15-amp circuit breakers; and installed three new 15-amp circuit breakers to eliminate double-tapped conductors.

Was very thorough about trouble-shooting and made sure that I was informed and comfortable as we continued to trouble-shoot the issue. It only took about 20 minutes to determine that the problem was a neutral wire disconnect on a 140 year old hour. Was very informative about existing issues that were found during the identification of problem. Made very good recommendations about other issues and what should be done to correct other issues that we could do ourselves or that should be done by a licensed electrician. Quoted on replacement of 2 fuse boxes and moving of 2 100 Amp services to new location outside. I will definitely use him again when I replace the fuse boxes. Gave a discount when it was all completed. A+++ provider!!!
Description of Work: Trouble-shooting of disconnected neutral wiring and replacement of 7 wall outlets/switches. Dual 100Amp service replacement quoted as well.

JACK, THE OWNER OF J & J, WAS PROMPT, COURTEOUS, RESPONSIVE, AND FOLLOWED HIS QUOTE, WITH A COUPLE OF CHANGES THAT FINANCIALLY BALANCED OUT. ALTHOUGH I DID NOT COMPETITIVELY BID THE WORK, FROM PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH ELECTRICIANS IN MY PRESENT HOUSE HIS PRICE SEEMED MORE THAN FAIR FOR THE TIME AND MATERIALS. SOME OF THE WORK HE PERFORMED, IN FACT, WAS REPAIR OF FAIRLY RECENT, AND SHODDY, ELECTRICAL WORK PERFORMED BY ANOTHER ALLEGEDLY LICENSED CONTRACTOR. I WILL DEFINITELY BRING J & J BACK TO PERFORM ADDITIONAL WORK AS WE CONTINUE TO UPGRADE AND REHAB OUR 100-YEAR-OLD HOUSE. ONE NIT: JACK GENERALLY PICKED UP AFTER THE WORK, BUT HE DID LEAVE A FEW OLD ELECTRICAL ITEMS AROUND THAT I'VE HAD TO DISCARD AS I CAME UPON THEM. TO BE FAIR, OUR HOUSE IS A RABBIT WARREN WHERE THINGS CAN GET LOST - NEVERTHELESS, MAKE SURE JACK (OR WHOMEVER YOU SELECT) TAKES AWAY ALL THAT DETRITUS.
Description of Work: UPGRADED ELECTRICAL SERVICE INCLUDING 200 AMP BREAKER BOX AND NEW CIRCUITS AND CONDUIT IN KEY PLACES; INSTALLED SEVERAL NEW LIGHTS AND A CEILING FAN; REWIRED GARAGE AND INSTALLED NEW INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COACH AND FLOOD LIGHTS; WIRED AND INSTALLED NEW OUTDOOR GFCI CIRCUIT ON BACK DECK; GENERAL CIRCUIT TESTING. ALSO PROVIDED ADVICE ON SOME PROSPECTIVE WORK.

I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE WORK THAT JACK DID IN MY OLD HOUSE. HE WAS THOUGHTFUL, SMART, CAREFUL AND VERY REASONABLY PRICED. HIS TASK WAS TO FIX EXTENSIVE BAD WIRING EVERYWHERE (UNGROUNDED AND/OR CORRODED WIRING, OVERLOADED FUSE BOX, ANCIENT/SPARSE OUTLETS, PROBLEMS THROUGHOUT). JACK DID THIS IN A VERY PROFESSIONAL AND THOROUGH MANNER. AT MY REQUEST, HE EVEN CHECKED THE WIRING OF EVERY SINGLE OUTLET/FIXTURE IN THE HOUSE. HE DID THIS EXTENSIVE JOB AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE AND IN A TRUSTWORTHY MANNER. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY FOR ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING-TYPE WORK.
Description of Work: REWIRED AND UPDATED ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THROUGHOUT MY ENTIRE 76-YEAR-OLD HOUSE, INCLUDING THE SECOND FLOOR, FIRST FLOOR & BASEMENT. NEW CIRCUITS, CIRCUIT BOX, NEW OUTLETS, NEW FIXTURES, THE WORKS. EVEN ADDED SOME OUTSIDE WIRING.
