I called Davis Tree for an estimate in early June to remove two tree's and grind down the stumps. They promptly came out and gave me an estimate, telling me 7-10 business days. Shortly after that we had several large storms, so they got back up with emergencies. Totally understandable, although they never bothered to call and let me know it was going to be longer. I called them in July to check on status, and they told me, in a not so nice way, that every one was backed up right now. "I wasn't the only one waiting." I was starting to get a little irritated but wanting to give a local, small company my business I waited another month. Still no call. So, I called again on August 2 and was told I was :" On the top of the list. It will be next week." So, I waited until August 18th, still no call. I called again and gave them an ultimatum. Either the tree's are out in 7 days or I am taking my business elsewhere. They said they doubted they could take them out in 7 days so I decided to take my business elsewhere. I waited from June 2 - August 18 and they still hadn't gotten to me. The only positive thing I can say is that in general the lady who answers the phone is nice and genuinely seems to care. While I understand that this was a crazy summer from a weather perspective, and they have other, bigger projects, the fact that they didn't call to let me know the status, or make it worth my while to wait was unacceptable. I hope they treat their bigger clients better.

They were good but it took a little while for them to come out and do it. Other than that, it’s hard to tell whether they did a good job or not. I think they are good overall and did everything they said they would do.

They were there and did everything very fast and efficient. You wouldn’t have even known that they were there. They were a lot cheaper than everyone else. When other people had called back, they didn’t believe that it would be that cheap for the job that I wanted. There was a 200 dollar charge, included in the final price, to cover my yard with plywood; they would not ruin my plants from people walking in and out. It took my initial estimate from 1300 to 1500 dollars, and it was more than reasonable. He covered a lot of the areas with me. When I asked him for information about insurance, they had no problems sending me all the information regarding insurance and bonding for property damage.

We thought that everything went fine with them. We would not consider using them in the future.

They were punctual and their charges are reasonable. They are thorough with their cleanup.

There were power lines running next to the tree, so they could not do anything. They were very professional, and it was not their fault that they could not do the job.

It was great. I didn't have any problems at all.

Davis came out after a couple of calls and I received a quote of $425 in the mail for pruning our large maple in the front yard, including removing the dead wood, raising and thinning the crown so that it was not so shady on our front lawn. We accepted the quote and they came out the following week with a cherry picker and a crew of 4 men. They did a wonderful job - the tree looks great, very balanced and I can't see anything I would have wanted them to do differently. They put the branches in a chipper and cleaned up completely after themselves, even sweeping the sidewalks clear of all the "whirlibirds." I would highly recommend Davis Tree Care. When the bill came the following week it was for precisely $425 and I think we got our money's worth.

NEVER RETURNED CALLS TO SCHEDULE AN ESTIMATE OR, NEVER RETURNED CALLS PERIOD.

I think they are a good company. They show up on time when they say they will. The workers are friendly and professional. I will continue to use them for future service.

We called and asked for an estimate for the work. They came out that day and provided a written estimate and placed it in our mail box. We called the next day and said we wanted them to do the work and we scheduled for 2 days later. They showed up and cut all of the shrubs down thoroughly. I think it took longer than they thought so we had to wait over a weekend to have them come with the wood chipper to take care of the clean up. But they returned as promised and thoroughly removed all of the materials from the shrubs. My only criticism is that they piled all of the cut down shrubs on top of an existing garden area and it was left over a weekend.

I called several times to get this corrected, and each time a very polite office person informed me that she would have someone call. Nobody did. I finally gave up an purchased a chain saw and cut up the remaining part into pieces that I could move. It took me several hours of work--work which their staff could have finished off if they had spent just 15 more minutes. I ended up paying $200 less than their estimate and included a note explaining my reasons for not paying the full invoice amount. I would much rather have paid the full amount and had the job done as it was supposed to be done.

A large box elder was knocked down in our yard after a windstorm this summer. It pulled down power lines and telephone lines. We called Davis and one of the Davis' came out within the hour and gave us an estimate for removal. He recommended we wait until Monday to remove the tree (it happened on a Sunday) because the house wasn't in any danger of getting damaged and the tree was very stable, AND he would have to charge us more for what would be an emergency, weekend removal. We took his advice, his crew came out the next day, cut the tree to pieces and carted it away, very safely and neatly. We are unlucky enough to have had 2 trees fall down in our yard over the last 2 years (the first one actually hitting the house) and Davis did an outstanding job, especially compared to our previous experience with Paul Bunyan.

Good work. They cut down the tree (which was right next to our garage and over lots of wires) while we were at work, and when we came home the tree was gone, and the wires and garage roof were still there. It took over a month until they ground the stump - they said their small grinder was being fixed - but when they ground it they did a fine job. Their bookkeeping staff may not have known that they hadn't ground the stump yet because they sent us a past due letter for the balance, before they ground the stump. But a short letter from us seemed to clear that up.

WHY IS "DAVIS" LISTED AS A CONSUMER BUSINESS? WAIT UNTIL YOU READ THIS ... I WANTED TO USE A SERVICE THAT WAS CLOSE TO CHICAGO THAT I COULD USE AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. A LIVE PERSON ANSWERED MY CALL. WHEN I DESCRIBED THE JOB, SHE HAD TO "TALK TO THE BOSS" AND I WAS BRIEFLY PUT ON HOLD. I WAS THEN TOLD THE COMPANY WAS "TOO BUSY" RIGHT NOW TREATING SUBURBAN PARK DISTRICTS FOR DUTCH ELM DISEASE (WHAT!) SHE SAID I SHOULD CALL BACK IN OCTOBER WHEN THEY ARE "NOT SO BUSY". IMMEDIATELY HIRED ANOTHER COMPANY THAT PROVIDED ATTENTIVE AND EXPEDIENT SERVICE: THE CARE OF TREES - CALL THEM INSTEAD.

I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT SEVERAL DAYS IN ADVANCE FOR AN ESTIMATE ON TREE TRIMMING. THEY INCONVENIENCED ME BECAUSE I ARRANGED MY SCHEDULE AROUND OUR APPOINTMENT AND THEY NEVER SHOWED, NOR DID THEY EVER RETURN MY TWO TELEPHONE CALLS AFTER THAT. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL IN MY BOOK, AS I WASTED TIME ON THEM AND WAS ALSO INCONVENIENCED.

THE REPRESENTATIVE SHOWED UP FOR THE INITIAL CONSULTATION WITHOUT A PROBLEM AND SAID THAT HE WOULD CALL IN A FEW DAYS WITH AN ESTIMATE. A WEEK PASSED, AND I HAD STILL NOT HEARD FROM HIM, SO I CALLED THE COMPANY AND LEFT A MESSAGE. THIS CALL WAS NOT RETURNED. AFTER A FEW MORE DAYS I CALLED AGAIN AND THEY PROMISED TO FAX OVER AN ESTIMATE, BUT NOTHING WAS EVER SENT. I WAITED ANOTHER FEW DAYS AND THEN CALLED ONCE MORE. THEY PROMISED TO LOOK IN TO THE MATTER AND CALL ME RIGHT BACK. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I NEVER HEARD FROM THEM AGAIN. IF THEY HAVE TOO MUCH WORK TO BE ABLE TO TAKE ON ADDITIONAL JOBS THAT'S FINE, BUT THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT UP FRONT SO THAT I COULD HAVE STARTED LOOKING FOR ANOTHER COMPANY RIGHT AWAY INSTEAD OF WASTING MY TIME WITH THEM FOR TWO WEEKS.

GENERALLY GOOD. ABOUT 25% OF THE BOX ELDER HAD TO BE REMOVED, AND THE RESULTING JOB WAS AESTHETICALLY PLEASING, AS WELL AS DONE TO SPECIFICATIONS. A BIT SLOW IN RETURNING PHONE CALLS, BIDS, AND ACTUALLY SHOWING UP TO DO THE ESTIMATE.

THE SERVICE WAS EFFICIENT AND TIMELY. THEY CLEANED UP THEIR MESS WELL.

THEY SCHEDULE THE APPOINTMENT AND DID NOT SHOW UP. I DID GET A PHONE CALL, LETTING ME KNOW THAT THERE WAS EMERGENCY STORM DAMAGE AND THEY HAD NOT FORGOT ABOUT ME, WHICH WAS GREAT. GOOD SERVICE.

BEEN WORKING IN THE AREA FOR A LONG TIME. FAMILY OWNED, GOOD LOCAL CONTACT. ONLY DOES WORK LOCALLY.

I WASN'T SATISFIED AT FIRST, BUT LATER THEY CORRECTED WHAT THEY DID. IN THE END I WAS VERY SATISFIED.
