Owner Bill Norman responded immediately to my call for an estimate for chimney repair; he came the same day to give an estimate. He examined the chimney, pointed out all the problem areas, and recommended the steps necessary to correct the problems. Also provided an estimated cost and time frame to complete the work. He explained how workers would access the chimney, what steps would be taken to protect the roof and yard during the process. He said he would complete the job within 4-5 weeks. He was very willing to answer all my questions and offer options. Very professional approach. He completed the job sooner than expected due to an opening in his schedule. Called me before to be sure time was acceptable to me which it was. Bill himself did the work with the assistance of one other gentleman. They erected a scaffolding to access the roof, covered all the roof around the chimney and areas where they walked with carpet strips to protect the shingles. Tools and materials were stored very neatly and out of the way on a covered porch area for the 3 days they were here. Day 1: Ground out all old mortar, removed old crown, and re-mortered the entire chimney. Due to threatening weather, rather than pouring the crown that day, they covered the chimney with a tarp and waited an extra day for weather to clear. Poured rain that night but I not not a bit of a leak or problem. Day 2: Poured new crown, replaced cap on flue opening. Removed scaffolding and cleaned up work area. Day 3: Returned to remove forms from the crown. The initial estimate was base on removing and replacing any cracked mortar with the understanding that he was to do what was necessary to do the job right. When he saw how bad it was once he got into the project, he made the decision (correctly!) to replace all the mortar. The final cost was only slightly more than the original estimate and he explained exactly where each cost came from based on actual hours worked and material used. Very transparent and professional. Bill's work is beautiful. Joints are smooth and even. Bricks that fell off during removal of the old mortar were re-laid perfectly. The new concrete cap (crown) is smooth and looks wonderful. The work site was completely cleaned up before they left. I am extremely pleased with the work he did. I highly recommend him and will definitely call him in the future for any concrete work I need to have done.
