It went very well. Alex did everything he promised in a prompt and competent way. The work he did building and repairing was excellent. He cleaned up his work so there was no mess left for me. Building the bookshelves was a complicated project and he did it perfectly.
Description of Work: I needed built in bookshelves in my living room, a side table built, and old furniture repaired.

Description of Work: Refinished a teak kitchen table top for us. First go round really didn't look finished and we haggled a bit to get him to redo. Basically apply another coat of poly. We're very pleased with the job but not with the reluctance to finish the job to our satisfaction. Would use Sawfish again but would be sure to have a clear understanding of our expectations.

Alex was terrific! I had four very squeaky old oak chairs. One a dog used as a bone.. Alex fixed all the chairs and I cannot even tell which chair was chewed on! His prices are good and fair. His work is excellent! We already brought another piece of furniture in to him and will have Alex over in the next month to give an estimate on two larger pieces that we have. I highly recommend him!

Needed a granite-topped lacquered-wood table retouched and four classic Eames dining chairs refinished. We wanted the table touched up on-site. Without seeing the jobs, Sawfish told us they'd recommend an outside source for the table because it might require in-shop spraying and was a major moving job. Saying we wanted the table done on-site, we didn't hear from Sawtooth again until he asked if we wanted the chairs done. I pointed out he hadn't even seen them, and preferred he do so before estimating, as two others had done. He came to our Skokie location His price was very good. He called a day before the chairs were due to be delivered, suggesting they dry a day longer. That was okay with us. When he delivered them, he said the could touch up the table, as well as a Noguchi coffee table that had been damaged. That work was, like that on the chairs, was done well. We were very pleased.
Description of Work: Touched up nicks and scratches on a black-lacquered wood-and-granite dining table (on site; wood only). Concealed minor damage to an Isamu Noguchi walnut table base (on site). Refinished four black-ash-finished Eames molded plywood dining chairs with chrome bases (in his shop). They were considerably worn when he picked them up. Look nearly new on return.

Work has been done to estimate and schedule, always on a cost-per-project basis. Often the resulting appearance is finer and more attractive than I had imagined. With refinishing of surfaces, I've been taught how to retain the results myself. Removed pieces have been handling with expert care, with no damage to my home or the objects.
Description of Work: Sawfish Studios, a one-person shop with no sub-contractors, has worked in my home, repairing pieces of furniture and restoring surface areas batter by time and use. The studio has also removed furniture pieces and worked on them at the place of business, based on the length of project and types of tools required. Sometimes the work was repair, and sometimes it was refinishing- drawers, tops, front facades of cabinetry. Sawfish studios has fabricated original pieces to replace missing, particularly atop ornament on an antique clock that has been in my family for five decades. I didn't know a piece was missing, but the evidence was there, just out of my sight and awareness. Once in place, the clock had a composed completeness.
