They were very reasonably priced for the service. They were very timely and they took the time to clean up after themselves. Other than the mess in the bathroom I could barely tell that they had been out. The only issue that we ran into was with the shower grout. They had to re-grout it a couple of times, because the guy who was mixing the grout was mixing it poorly. The grout is okay now, however it is not quite the quality that I expected.

This member was a pleasure to work with. The problem with the grout was that the customer purchased grout was of poor quality as it was old. Once we regrouted with our new materials, everything was okay.

Three day job as estimated, cost close to estimate, very professional on phone and in person, timely, and cleaned up very well on completion of job. Followed up after completion to make sure we were satisfied.
Description of Work: Removed laminate flooring and laid new tile as drawn out by designer in powder room. Also noted that the toilet was not properly sealed prior to installing new floor which would have created further problems down the road if not repaired, recommend a qualified and timely plumber to ensure getting the floor completed in expected time. The new floor looks great, the company cleaned up VERY WELL and removed all of their garbage. Overall very satisfied with service and would recommend to friends.
Norm was very professional and offered great advice on ways to make our very small old bathroom more efficient. I could tell he was really listening to what needed to be done and thinking about the best way to do it. This project involved our only full bathroom not being usable for about two weeks. Norm and his crew made every effort to get the bathroom back in working order as quickly as possible while still doing a thorough job. The workers showed up on time every day. They did very good work on all parts of the job. A couple of minor things came up and they worked quickly to rectify the situation so the work was the way we wanted it. One of the reasons we hired Norpro was because of their excellent reputation. Also, they realized how important it was to us to have the bathroom repaired as quickly as possible and were able to start the job within about a week during the busy summer season. The job ended up being a little more costly than the estimate because of unseen issues that only became clear after the work was started. However, Norm did tell us an approximate cost if certain repairs were necessary so the extra cost was not a surprise. I had full confidence in Norm and his crew because they were very familiar with the quirks and complications of working on an old house and would highly recommend them for repairs or remodeling.
Description of Work: Repaired a wall leading to the basement with drywall and painted. Also, repaired and painted the ceiling in the downstairs bathroom. Resealed our granite countertops in the kitchen. Removed two layers of vinyl floor in the upstairs bathroom and replaced it with 1/4" underlayment and marble tile and installed marble trim around the bottom of the walls. Sealed the marble twice per my request. Also, removed old tile on the walls around the bathtub and installed new durock and ceramic subway tile, built a shampoo box in shower wall. Installed an inside mount medicine cabinet. Painted the bathroom walls. Repaired, replastered and painted a large wall along the stairway leading to the second floor.

The job was done very well and professionally. The plumbing and tile were installed very nicely. The two workmen kept the rest of the house clean and they cleaned up well after the job was complete. Our only complaint was lack of punctuality. On one day the workmen came two hours after they were originally scheduled. However, on the one day that we told them it was essential they arrive on time, they came early. The job had originally been quoted to us as taking about three working days. It took six. This was not a problem for us but it may be for others with a more rigorous schedule. However, after the first day's work we were comfortable leaving the workmen alone in our house. One possible problem arose due to the size of the tub/shower valve. The plumber and tile men worked very well together to resolve this. Overall we were very pleased.
Description of Work: Completely replaced tile enclosure and tub/shower hardware for bathtub/shower. Ripped out old tile and damaged drywall. Installed new concrete drywall on walls and ceiling above tub; installed new plumbing fixtures and installed new ceramic tile, soap dishes and grab bar and grouted and caulked same.

My husband and I have been through a number of remodeling projects over the years, and this was one of the best experiences we have ever had with a contractor. Norm Persky is extremely responsive, professional and attentive to detail. He virtually always answers his cell phone, which is amazing in and of itself, and he was on site every day. This project was completed on time and on budget. Norpro began the work exactly when they said they would, and despite some add-ons, the entire project from start to finish took four weeks. They did an excellent job dealing with the inevitable issues that arise with remodeling in a vintage home (ours was built in 1937). Their workmanship is beautiful, particularly the tile work and wood trim, and we are extremely happy with the finished product both in the bathroom and on the living room fireplace. The workers were highly skilled, polite, careful and kind to our two dogs. They cordoned off their work area neatly, promptly cleared away their debris, and cleaned up their mess regularly. The project was completed with a minimum of disruption to our household. We also felt that we received excellent value for the price we paid--we obtained four estimates for the bathroom remodel, and one of them was almost twice the amount of Norpro's estimate. Overall, we could not be more satisfied with Norpro's work on this project.

We thought their presentation, materials, and estimate were top-notch, and their price was quite competitive. We ended up going with a competitor due to a scheduling conflict, but we would definitely recommend Norpro to anyone looking to remodel their kitchen! I was particularly impressed with the owner's candor regarding whether he'd be able to complete a certain portion of the work to our specification, and his recognition that we knew what we were getting into and could handle changes in approach and cost as the project would have progressed. It showed business savvy on his part initially, and good interpersonal communication skills as we got to know one another.
Description of Work: Norpro assessed a kitchen remodel and provided an estimate for us. We requested several different options in the estimate, and they delivered to that request well.

I bought a vintage building out of foreclosure in Skokie. The building is in great shape, but Kitchens, bathrooms, electrical service and plumbing all had to be completely redone. I had two bids. Norpro won the bid by coming in $20,000 lower, mainly on the plumbing estimate. I did all of the hardwood floor refinishing myself. I had to place a great deal of trust in Norm, because I was living in Peru at the time and only was in town to work about once a month. Norm did not let me down. We communicated via email and phone and I think that the job was very well coordinated. The plumbing and electrical work were extensive. Frank the plumber took out all of the rusting galvanized piping throughout and replaced with copper. Separate hot for each flat to both kitchens and bathrooms. Rerouted plumbing in kitchens to accomodate corner sinks. Installed new hotwater heater. Fixed all previous botched work by former owner. He was fantastic. Mike the electrician replaced all of the wiring througout. Doubled the city service. Installed 220 in key locations. Uncovered all of the vintage sconce boxes. Replaced circuit breakers, grounds, installed lighting, fans, timers, switches, fixed botched jobs by previous owner......he did a very thorough and professional job. Both Frank and Mike were also great to work with on a personal level. Norm's carpenters did a good job intalling the cabinetry in the kitchens and the tilers and plasterers did a professional job in the bathroom. The tub reglazing was top notch. My wife and I now own an 80 year old beautiful building with modern amenities and awesome water pressure. As in any large job, additions and corrections needed to be made as the work progressed. Those changes were well-managed and reasonably priced. And, as in any large job, not everything is absolutely perfect, but I am very satisfied with the job, I feel like I got good value for the money I paid and I have no hesitation in giving Norm and his team an "A" grade.
Description of Work: 1927 two flat in Skokie. Both flats. Completely replaced galvanized piping with copper throughout. Replace and upgraded wiring and electrical service throughout. Refinished gutted bathrooms and kitchens. Installed owner tile (floor and wall), toilets, sinks, lighting, vanities in bathrooms. Reglazed tubs. Installed owner cabinets, sinks, sinkerators, appliances, lighting in kitchens. Installed Norpro counters in kitchens. Installed owner lighting and ceiling fans in all rooms. In short....a ton of stuff.

Jack is always extremely courteous on the phone. Schedule start date 4 weeks out. Project started on time workers punctual each day. Project took approximately two weeks from start to finish (estimated 7-10 days). The second bedroom is used as an office so asked for 4 coats of polyurethane to provide adequate coverage which they did. Recessed return covers were an additional cost, but would definitely go that route again as they look great.
Description of Work: Installed hardwood floors in second bedroom. Reframed closet, insulating and installing pocket door. Installed recessed return cover to match new hardwood floors. Matched new floors to existing hardwood floors adjacent to second bedroom.

I had a great experience with Norpro. Their staff did a great job, and we benefited from their experience, creativity, and technical expertise. One of the reasons we chose Norpro was because Norm didn't try to pressure us into doing something we couldn't afford and because he was comfortable with our desire to source most of the material-cabinets, counters, tile-ourselves. This allowed us to have EXACTLY what we wanted, which was a big plus. Norm was incredibly helpful when it came to finding ways to do what we wanted in a way that fit our budget. While a gut rehab is a dirty job, they were very good about cleaning up after themselves and they hawled away every bit of construction debris. The difference between the old kitchen and the new kitchen is astonishing. It's impossible to put it into words. I have particular praise for Ron, the lead carpenter on my job. We enjoyed working with him and his son, and we were impressed with his creative approach to little quirky things in our kitchen. He really listened when we said we were looking for a clean, unfussy aesthetic, and he created trim that is perfect for us. (And the pet-feeding center he built into the pantry is the greatest thing!) Also, Mike, their electrician, was a very reassuring presence. He knows his stuff! The only blemish on the experience was small: We were first-time rehabbers, and there were things that we expected were included in the bid that were not. We figured if your bid included exposing hardwood flooring in what is now a new hallway, it also included finishing it. That was not the case. And because it was a small piece of flooring (4' long) and they'd already been paid in full for the kitchen, the floor wasn't a priority. After a couple of months of "we'll be out there next week" I gave up on them coming to do it. We are planning on re-doing the floor in the room it leads to in the spring, so we'll have it written into the bid for that job. A job we will definitely ask Norpro to bid on! We have no reservations recommending Norpro-we've already done so, and our friends have similar things to say about their responsive and creative natures. Did I mention they did our ENTIRE KITCHEN in 3 WEEKS and 4 DAYS? I'm including a "before" picture so you can see what a miracle it was!
Description of Work: Complete kitchen rehab, including re-routing traffic patterns, creating new doorways. All new drywall, lighting, under-cabinet lighting, electrical, tile, and plumbing. Knocking through an 18" thick brick wall to run window air conditioner through the wall. Cabinet installation. Hood/exhaust installation. Garbage disposal and W/D installation. Custom/finish carpentry. Install stainless steel pegboard. Painting. (NOTE: the $29,000 PRICE DID NOT INCLUDE THE COST OF CABINETS, TILE, COUNTERTOPS, SINK, FAUCET, or APPLIANCES.) And they did ALL of this work in 3 weeks and 4 days. Yes. You read that right. 3 WEEKS and 4 DAYS!

The entire experience went smoothly and the end result was really beautiful. They were prompt in responding to my request for an estimate, helpful in coordinating pickup of the tile, on time for the job, responsive to my schedule needs, and thorough in their cleanup. Their price was similar to the other estimates I got. I chose them because they provide other services and because I'm planning a major renovation, I wanted to get a feel for the company for that project. I was surprised at the cost, but after seeing how long the project took (most of a week) it seemed reasonable to me. I'm well pleased and will certainly go back to them in the future.
Description of Work: Installed ceramic tile in a basement rec room and bathroom, approximately 340 sq. ft. Installation included laying 13" tile in a straight pattern, grouting, removal and replacement of toilet, and supplying and installing shoe molding and thresholds.
Norm was prompt in providing quote and offered various options on renovating bath. All team members, from guys building shower to electrician were all professional and pleasant. Work was completed on time and within budget. Everything went smoothly. Only glitch was some discolored white tiles which were replaced at no charge when pointed out to Norm. Both basement bedroom and bath look great. I highly recommend Norm and his great team.
Description of Work: Rebuild of basement bathroom and bedroom that was gutted due to serious water damage. Work included drywall of ceiling and walls, adding insulation, laying vinyl floor in bedroom, building tile shower stall, reworking/adding some lighting, fan, and other electrical work, and painting both rooms.
Norpro did an excellent job. We felt their pricing was fair and their work was exceptional. Every worker was professional, polite, neat and on time (the guys who did the shower demo and rebuild, the drywall and painting guy, the electrician, the plumbers, and shower door guys). They were even sensitive about my kids naps and safety around materials. Our shower looks great. The pricing came in slightly over because of some extra work that needed to be done and we thought that was completely fair. We would hire them again for any work we need done.
Description of Work: We hired Norpro to fix an incorrectly installed shower liner. This involved demo-ing the tile in the floor of the shower and the first row of tiles on the wall, taking out the cement, liner, and plywood. They then replaced the plywood, installed a new drain, replaced the liner and cement and re-tiled. The job also included removing and reinstalling the shower door, repairing drywall and painting. We also had them install 4 can lights.

I've used the services of this company twice. I can't say enough about this excellent company. Responsive, polite, reasonably priced.
Description of Work: Repaired sheet rock of bathroom ceiling.
This was the first time we've ever had something remodeled so we were a bit nervous. Norman was very good at letting us know what would be done and when. We never had trouble getting a hold of him, and he was always forthright with answers to our questions. This is our only bathroom, so work needed to be done quickly. They never missed a day, and the only hold up was the painters. This only held the project up one day. The whole thing cost exactly what was quoted. I should note that the estimate did not include the cost of the fixtures or the tile. The workers were very amiable and always on time. They took great care of the house and left it clean at the end of the day. The tradesmen he hired were all top notch and were able to work with this 100 year old building and all it's idiosyncrasies. We love our new bathroom and have no regrets about hiring this fine company. I would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Total rehabilitation of bathroom. New floor, fixtures and cabinet. Re-tile entire bathroom. Repair of water damaged wall and ceiling. Rip out wood "nook" and replace with drywall. Add GFI outlet and replace two light fixtures. Install an exhaust fan. Alter plumbing in order to install a pedestal sink and a claw foot tub. Replace glass block window with a double-hung. 2/3rds of the bathroom was taken down to the studs and built back up. Insulation was replaced on outside wall.

They were very flexible in terms of working dates as our material did not arrive on time. The price was good and workers were pleasant. There were two problems... the toilet was put back loosely and new shelf brackets and towel hanger started falling off soon. We initially had a problem getting good response from them. However, once they heard us, they came and fixed everything with no charge. Norman called to make sure and sent us a gift card for apology. Thank you. Now it is all fine.

Norpro remodeled our bathroom a couple of years ago, and when it came time to do our kitchen, it was a no-brainer to call upon Norpro. Norm and his crew were awesome. Norm was onsite at the start of every new project (e.g., cabinet installation, updating of electrical, installation of tile), and his crew was friendly, courteous, and respectful. Norm always returned phone calls promptly whenever we had a question, and he and his crew made sure that we were satisfied with the work every step of the way. Everyone who has seen our kitchen has been impressed, and we've recommended Norpro to several of our friends. Thank you, Norpro!
