I cannot say enough good things about Andrew Kerr and his staff. They have done a multitude of projects for us-- some smaller, some bigger, all of them provided with quality and professionalism. It is such a relief to have a good handyman available-- esp one who will do the little things along with the big things.

Andrew came out to give an estimate. He was prompt, professional, and friendly. All of the jobs we needed done were well within his company's expertise. Jeremy came out for about 11 hours over two days. He was always prompt, very creative coming up with solutions and alternative ideas for fixing the problem, very personable, and cleaned up any mess.
Description of Work: Jeremy came out for 7 1/2 hours one day and almost 4 hours another day. He completed a long list of projects that I have been wanting to get done for some time. The projects included: installing a dimmer switch, caulking bathtub, caulking kitchen sink, hanging shelves, fixing leaking faucet, hanging mirror/picture, fixing 3 doors that would not close properly and another door that squeaked, and fixing a broken bathroom vanity door. We also wanted to hang name letters in our nursery, but because of the holes in each letter, it would have been hard to hang the in a level manner. Jeremy was very thoughtful about this problem and came up with a creative solution. He built a frame for the letters so they can hang on the wall.

Andrew from Kerr Home Services responded quickly to our inquiry. Met me the next day at the house. Gave an estimate and we scheduled the work. We had to reschedule due to a change on our end. Andrew kindly accommodated. Jeremy (from Kerr) showed up at the rescheduled time, on time. Andrew called Jeremy to confirm he had arrived on time and then walked Jeremy through everything the two of us had talked about previously. Jeremy was courteous, thorough and professional. We left him at home to work while we each went to work ourselves. He left the place clean and the work was handled impeccably. I will call Kerr the next time I need work or advice on a home project.

They do concrete slabs for kitchens, remodel bathrooms, etc. They do a lot of things.

Our experience with Kerr Home Services exceeded our expectations. From the original meeting with Andrew to plan out the work and throughout the project, Andrew and his crew were professional, on-time, and did excellent work. My wife and I both work and we were gone during the day when the work was being done and when we'd come home at the end of the day we were always amazed at the progress that had been made that day. We will continue to use Kerr for other work that will need done like a basement and kitchen remodel.
Description of Work: We bought a 2-flat in A March of 2010 that hadn't been updated since the early 1980's. Andrew and his crew did the following work during a 3 month period: -removed a wrought iron spiral staircase and matched the replacement flooring to the original flooring. -upgraded our electric service from 100 amp to 200 amp and replaced all fuse boxes with circuit breaker boxes. -upgraded our plumbing from galvanized to copper pipe -installed multiple ceiling fans and blinds and replaced pull chain light fixtures with light switches throughout the building -installed new bathroom and kitchen fixtures on the first floor and a new shower stall in our basement bathroom -reglazed the tub in our first floor bathroom -built and finished a small wall at the base of our staircase, installed a large finished door on our open shed, removed an entire cork wall in our dining room and patched and repainted the wall and install 2 new doors and door jams -

Andrew is a very nice person to work with. He's responsive and answered all my questions, but I felt there was a disconnect between him and his crew since Andrew would tell me something was complete but it wasn't and I had to call him back a couple of times to finish which I felt bad doing. Also, for things like tiling, which I know nothing about, he left it up to me to determine how much I needed and the kinds of pieces I needed. In the end, I bought the wrong kind and he stepped in and found the right subway tiles but he bought them before telling me the price (over $500). Had I known beforehand they were that expensive, I would have gone with a different brand. Now I have almost a whole box of these tiles leftover that I don't know what to do with. But Andrew?s guy did do a fantastic job tiling the shower so maybe it was worth it. There were a number of times that I had to point out things that I felt should have been done without me pointing them out like caulking the sink and filing in areas missed around the tub and window. After removing all the concrete from the walls, the heating vent duct stuck out and needed to be trimmed but they didn't notice that either. They also didn't install the faucet hole cover for the sink or hole cover for the toilet before they installed the sink and toilet so we had these ugly holes that we had to look at. I had his guys back to fix that but they put the wrong kind of covers on and put a glob of caulk on the wall and pushed the covers into it. It was obvious to me that it looked terrible. We fixed it ourselves but when we went to take off the covers, our newly painted walls were ruined since the caulk dried and we had to wedge out the covers. Now we have to have hire someone to unhook the plumbing to install the correct covers. At that point in the project I lost my patience and I didn't call him to tell him about the covers again. In addition, the walls in our bathroom were installed crooked and I thought they were going to fix the floor tiling by the door when they came back since floor tiling needed to be filled in with more caulk. We had Andrew install tiles over the existing floor and any leveling issues I thought would be taken care of but it wasn't. The tiling by the door frame was not level so it has now cracked. I also had chair rails and a wood trim installed and Andrew knew we were going to stain them. I know nothing about carpentry but I do know they make headless nails yet they installed the chair rails with regular nails and put wood filler over the nails. You can't stain wood filler. We hired someone else to take the chair rails off the wall and reinstall them properly. Andrew and his crew were conscientious when it came to cleaning up and keeping the dust down but I didn't appreciate them storing their tools and working equipment in our bathtub. Thankfully, it was a sturdy cast iron tub and I was able to buff out all the scratches.
Description of Work: Complete raw bathroom remodel. Removed concrete, chickenwire, paperstuffing from the walls down to the studs, removed and disposed of toilet and sink and debris, put in new dry wall in whole bathroom, installed new lights, toilet, sink. Tiled floor and shower walls.

Andrew's team was responsible for installing the kitchen cabinets, flooring, lighting, and tile back splash. Additionally, his team did the necessary plumbing and electrical work, along with painting. Although the project was mainly a kitchen remodel, there were also minor updates to an adjacent bathroom and a new paint job in the dining room. One of the first things we did with Andrew was remove the wall separating the dining room from the kitchen. This went well and gave us a nice open floor plan connecting the two rooms. After that Andrews team did the demolition work on the old cabinets and countertops and upgraded the electrical circuits supplying the kitchen. With the demolition and infrastructure upgrades complete Andrew's team proceeded to install the new floor. We went with a light colored slate laid out in a Versailles pattern. We had a couple misunderstandings with the particulars of the layout, but Andrew was accommodating and we worked it out. Next Andrew's team installed the cabinets and island. Recessed ceiling lights were installed across the kitchen and pendant lights were installed above the island. The last phase was the back splash and painting. These items were completed without issue and turned out great. Andrew's communication on the project was great. I always knew his team's status and the work was completed in the expected time frame.

Excellent company. Andrew came and gave us an estimate, which was returned the next day. His price was over $1,000 less than anyone else. Hired him to do the work. He and his crew arrived the starting day exactly when they said they would be here, and worked from 8:30 - 6:30 every day. The crew was amazing! They were friendly, polite, and professional. They also do great work. We added a couple things mid-way through the job ( a few asthetic details) which were done exactly the way we wanted, and weren't charged an arm and a leg for the added work. The bathroom came out looking fantastic, and were are so happy with the design and work done by Andrew and his crew. If you want an honest and fair price for a great job, hire this company!!!!
Description of Work: Install heated floor and tile in bathroom
Overall, I rate Kerr very highly, See above for detail of the work. Proffesional, timely, courteous and reasonable! The only reason they got a B on punctuality was because his guys got tied up on antoher job when he said they would be at our house, so they had to come back on a different day. Wasn't an inconvenience for us since I can work from home, but I suppose that could be a knock on them if I had to pick one thing - but also, I wasn't adament that they show up that day - if I were, I would imagine they would have found a way to get there.
Description of Work: We had mold remediation done in our basement and hired Andrew to do the reconstruction of the drywall (and insulation) that was torn out, and painting as well. We also had them come back to do some handyman odds n' ends. First, Andrew is a really smart guy and extremely easy going, and also very responsive. He uses an iPhone so he responds to e-mails very quickly. But more importantly, the work was of high quality, his guys were very professional, and I would not hesitate to have them come back for much larger jobs. He is very trustworthy and his prices are in line with what I would expect.

He and each of the workers who came out were courteous, respectful and neat. The work is good quality and we're pleased. We feel we got a *lot* of work done for the price.

They did a great job, and were punctual and professional the day they came to do the work. The only reason I gave them a "B" is because they didn't show up on the day they were supposed to - it turned out they had forgotten to put my appointment on their calendar. However, the owner was extremely apologetic and promised to come out as soon as he could, and they did. I liked that Mr. Kerr came out with his worker to make sure everything was clear before the worker proceeded. The work was perfect, and they were very easy to deal with. I'd recommend.

It went very, very well. There was preparation that took a lot of time, so the estimate for 4 hours turned into 7 hours of work, which was not their fault. It was mine. Jose, nickname Pepe, was extremely nice. I had purchased paint ahead of time which he indicated was not correct. It was an oil-based primer and would take a very long time to dry. He let me know the correct kind of paint which I purchased at the store. The entire time, he was scraping. He applied his own primer and the second coat went on lickety split. They made no mistakes and left no marks on the glass! I requested Mr. Kerr's insurance and it was sent to me with the workers. They cleaned up all of the scrapings. Drop cloths were placed on the landscaping which required no clean up on my part. I am very satisfied.

Andrew Kerr runs Kerr Home Services. When I was shopping around for replacement windows, I visited the Design Center at Evanston Lumber, which sells the highly-rated Marvin windows (check out Consumer Reports). The window guy there (Glenn Robinson) suggested I get a bid from Kerr Home Services for installing the windows. Buying the windows from Evanston Lumber and then getting them installed by a good installer is a lot cheaper than buying them from a window store that sells the windows and installs. And, Andrew Kerr and Glenn Robinson have worked together enough that they make the process seamless for the customer. Another thing I really liked about Andrew Kerr is that he pays his workers fairly. On residential construction, it is important to ask about how workers are paid and how much workers are paid, because so many firms pay their regular workers as independent contractors (which is illegal) and cheat them of wages. In calling around, some companies didn't want my business when I asked about how their workers were paid. Andrew was very forthcoming about wages and how his workers are paid. The first time Andrew Kerr visited he measured the windows and gave me a general install price for installing the windows, adding the extenders and painting the inside. After I decided that I wanted to go with Kerr and Evanston Lumber, I ordered the windows from Evanston Windows based on Kerr's specs. It took three to four weeks for the windows to come in because I had quite a few non-standard sized windows (pricey, unfortunately). When the windows got to Evanston Lumber, he picked them up and arranged for when the would begin work. All of the windows that came were the right size (the measurements were correct), but Marvin Windows (the window manufacturer) messed up two window grills, so those had to be reordered. It was no big deal, but added about a week to the job before everything was completely finished. The installing of the 24 windows took about a week. There were two really nice guys who did the work. They were careful in my house when they took down curtains and moved furniture in order to get to the windows. They were nice guys and smart. When they came across a problem, such as my rotted bay window, they would suggest what needed to be done to fix it. Andrew Kerr would check by daily to find out how the work was going. Putting in the outside aluminum extenders and painting the windows inside took about another week. For these jobs, there were extra guys who came at different times. Again, Andrew was totally on top of the work and would check by daily. When extra supplies were needed for the extenders, Andrew just ordered it and billed me. Our windows are terrific and the job is done. They look great from the outside, with the extenders, and great on the inside, because the painting was so good. I would highly recommend using Andrew Kerr and his team.
Description of Work: Kerr Home Services installed 24 replacement windows, installed aluminum extenders around the outside of the windows, painted the inside of the windows to match the existing window trim and repaired/rebuilt a bay window in the dining room.

Andrew sent Clifford to handle a variety of tasks we needed to complete after moving into a new home. Clifford is an amazingly adept guy who could quickly solve the entire range of issues. He also cleaned up after each task and on top of it all was a nice friendly guy. We were extremely happy with the quality of work As it turns out, some of the bathroom hardware needed a little tightening after the work was done, and Andrew came right over to fix those final small issues. (To us, it's unrealistic to expect 100% perfection every time--especially when you're asking someone to perform 25 different things as quickly as possible. What really matters is how a company responds on the few occasions when things are not quite right. They responded perfectly.)

If they were rated on a scale from 1 to 10, they would get a 12. They did a good job cleaning up. I didn't even know they were here. It is owned by an individual. They have been slightly pricey for previous work. I would highly recommend them.
