I wanted to buy the $199 deal for deck restoration and contacted the owner. He said to drop him an email and he will come and visit the property to give me an estimate. That was 2 weeks back and i haven't heard anything from him. It seems they are too busy.

Candy was on time for his appointment for the estimate and the price seemed reasonable. He said that he was able to do the work the following week. My tenant and Candy discussed the possible work schedule and settled on the next Wednesday because my tenant was at home that day. I bought the paint that weekend and the ball was rolling. When I got home from work on the Wednesday evening, I looked at the bathroom and it was beautiful! Candy's work was very neat. My tenant said that Candy was on time and that he was also a very pleasant person have in his apartment all day. This was also my experience with Gorman's plumber last year. I think it is a big "plus" to have someone working in your residence who is pleasant as well as professional. So much work takes hours to perform and both parties are essentially stuck together all day. I had used Gorman Restoration in 2012 for plumbing work in my own unit, but this was the first time I had used Gorman for painting. I was very satisfied.
Description of Work: My tenants had old water damage in their bathroom that had occurred several years ago. The company that caused the original water damage had been working in the unit above that of my tenants and it did a terrible job repairing their damage. My tenants had been reluctant to have a stranger in their unit and they were also concerned about more substandard results. So....time passed. When my tenants finally agreed to have this work done, I called Gorman Restoration. Lucky Gorman scheduled his painter Candy to stop by the next Saturday morning to view the bathroom and give me an estimate to repair and paint the walls and ceiling and to caulk around the bathtub.

Description of Work: Nothing - that's the problem. He came to assess the situation - clearly expressed he thought the job would be bigger. Charged me $125 "for his time", with part of that going to future work. There was no future work. He has not returned my calls.

When I contact Lucky, we met at my place to look over the job. We agreed on a price that included repair or replace, as necessary the damaged wood, as described above. Then the repaired or replaced wood and areas were to be primed and painted using the correct trim paint. Lucky and his carpenter were both prompt and professional in their attention to detail and doing a good job. The biggest work was performed while we were out of town, and when we arrived back, the porch was in much better condition than when we had left. The only issuer I had was that the cleanup was not quite complete. But Lucky came by and made good. Lucky then came by to do the spot repair when I was there so I could discuss and learn the technique necessary to keep up with future challenges the porch would through my way. Lucky completed the work, cleaned up and left. Happy porch. Happy porch owner.
Description of Work: i have hired House Wizards several times in the last few years, always with excellent results. On this occasion, I hired House Wizards to repair or replace weather damaged wood on the framing of our screen porch where moisture resistant wood was not originally installed on the framing holding the screens. There were holes where wood had rotted away, and many places where the wood was soft like a sponge. Lucky's carpenter replaced several lengths of badly damaged wood with pressure sealed wood as needed, and then painted to match the trim. Lucky then repaired the holes and soft spots with top-notch wood treatment and filler, making those spots much more durable than wood, but sand-able and paint-able. Lucky also showed me how to use that special wood treatment he used because it was understood the porch will require more such attention in the future.

He sent an amateur tile guy in to do a very small job. He messed it up so bad we have to rip out his job and the rest of the bathroom in order to repair the damage caused. Things can happen but the owner of the company, Lucky is extremely rude, condescending and blaming me for not watching his guy closer!!! We are having to stalk Lucky for months to get him to stand behind his work and hire a reputable person to repair our once gorgeous bathroom!!! So far, no luck in getting him to stand behind the disaster he caused. We call, email, text and now threaten him but nothing!!!
Description of Work: A small tile job turned total disaster!

Let me start with this: I am a reasonable, fair and honest individual that always gives people the benefit of a doubt when it comes to doing work for me. This experience was worthy of an all "F" rating. Here is a timeline of my experience with this provider: Monday July 30: Found Lucky Gorman thru Service Magic. He came over with Keith to look at the project. I explained my concerns and the importance of the need to have the project completed soon, as my wife is not coming home until these bars are installed. He said he can have the job done within a week-10 days. He managed to cash my check the very next day! Wednesday August 1: He called and said the job will be done by Saturday, August 4th Thursday August 2nd: He asked if they could come by and install the bars on Friday, August 3rd instead. I took a half day off from work to meet that Friday. They were a NO-SHOW / NO-CALL on Friday. August 3-5th: Numerous calls to Lucky with no return calls. Tuesday August 7th: Lucky was a NO CALL/NO SHOW. I called Tuesday evening and he got angry when I asked when the Window bars are coming in - -He said they were supposed to be in ?Like Yesterday?. Wednesday August 8th: Lucky said someone would be over today to handle the windows. When I didn?t hear from him that day (and my gate was locked) I followed up. He said he was there and looked at the windows; although my gate was locked and he couldn?t have looked at them without jumping a fence. Thursday August 9th: Received an email that he has been having trouble with Prescription drugs and sorry his work is reflection that. August 9th: Installed 1/3 Window Bars. The job was done very poorly. Bars are poor quality, installed crooked and extremely loose (without much effort at all, I can flex the bars 4-5 inches in the middle). This offers no protection/safety from intruders. These are also showing signs of rust Friday August 10th: He got angry on the phone with me when I voiced that I was unhappy with the bars that were installed. He said he would make things right and agreed that the bars are unacceptable. Monday August 13th: Initiated Conflict Resolution. Thru Matt (Service Magic) he contact Lucky and told me that Lucky would get back to me by 1:30 pm on that day. I did not hear from Lucky for 3 days after Service Magic contacted him ? and I had to leave numerous messages for Lucky to call me back. Thursday August 16th: Lucky said the work would happen next Monday 20th. I agreed to give him one more shot at this project Monday August 20th: NO CALL/NO SHOW. I left a message for Lucky that this project is over 3 weeks old and needs to be finished. Tuesday August 21st: He called me early Tuesday morning and said he was coming out on Tuesday 21st between 9:30-11am. I called him at 11:00 am to ask where he was and he said he was on his way. I left work early again to meet him; waited until 2 pm and called him to find out where he was. He said he confused me with another customer named Casey and that he was very sorry. Completion of job: Upon completion, he charged my two times the labor that he estimated for the project. Eventually, he came back down in price to what we had originally verbally agreed on. The bars are already rusting and look terrible!
Description of Work: I asked Lucky to install security bars on three windows because I had someone attempt to break into my home. I expressed the urgency with which the job needed to be completed and he told me it could be finished in 7-10 days. The job took over a month to complete and the quality of work was terrible

We asked that the work be done as much as possible while we were out of town, and the majority of the work was completed by our return. The remaining work was completed in reasonably short order. The quality is excellent and reminds us fondly of the pristine construction we expect from fine workmanship. We would work with Gorman Restoration again without hesitation.
Description of Work: I again contracted Gorman Restoration to do work at my home, and was again pleased with the results. My back porch was built several years ago with an addition we added to our home, and the screen frames were apparently built from non treated lumber, so much of the wood was rotted and unworthy of a house that has well over 100 proud years of service. Gorman and Co was contracted to replace the framing and wood as needed with treated lumber and paint, followed by re-screening the whole porch.

Lucky guided me in purchasing an appropriate reverse-osmosis water filter for my home. He and a helper installed it quickly and professionally, and they cleaned up all traces of their presence. A little while later, a problem arose and some modification was needed. Lucky came out the next day and fixed the problem, free of charge.

I contacted House Wizards Handyman & Gorman Restoration to discuss the project, and Lucky (the owner) and I decided on the approach. Lucky told me of a good local ladder distributor, and offered to pick up the replacement ladder. I was driving near there, so I picked it up. At the appointed date and time, House Wizards arrived, and went quickly to work removing the old ladder and installing the new one. During the uninstall, the framing surrounding the old ladder came loose, but I understand the old ladder was attached to it. The framing was re-attached after the new ladder was installed, and looks great. The new ladder was installed, and looks fantastic. I no longer feel uneasy climbing into my attic :-)

It went seamlessly. We a subfloor drainage system put in the basement after flooding in late July and had another vendor put in a new flooring. Our walls had been damaged as a result of the flooding and the jackhammering of the subfloor and in addition to repairing the walls, we wanted to put in white painted wood trim around the flooring and extend electrrical service into the finished side of the basement that had only one working outlet. Lucky responded to an email we sent via Angie's List and visited the house within a matter of days with one of his employees, Renee, to look over the various jobs. We received a bid that we accepted within short order, paid a deposit and Lucky went ahead with sequencing the work. His electrical sub was the first to look over the job and shortly thereafter Renee returned to do the dishwasher handle repair, wall repair, trim installation and repainting. The trim, whiich was challenging because the concrete walls were not plumb (straight), turned out beautifully as did the walls and touch-up painting. Renee even trimmed and painted a damaged section at the base of the basement stairs that was not technically "within the scope" of the bidded work. A few days later, Lucky's electrical sub returned and completed the work. The result is nothing less than fantastic.
Description of Work: Lucky and his subs did a number of jobs for us including: (1) the repair of a loose dishwasher handle; (2) the repair and repainting of damaged basement walls; (3) the installation of wood molding around perimieter of finished basement floor; and (4) the extension of electricial service into the finsihed side of the basement.

The work started pretty much on time as I recall. Most of the job was satisfactory. Lucky (Gorman) sent a friendly, capable workman to install the lighting and fix the doors. The paint jobs were good. But the projects and communication with Lucky broke down near the end. The screen door on the porch stopped closing properly not long after that job was supposedly done, and Lucky never did anything about the back door that needed a lock. He eventually sent someone back out to redo the screen door, which seemed to do the trick, for awhile. The lock on the back door went unresolved for a long time, despite many calls from me, and Lucky finally said that his door hardware supplier did not carry any locks that would fit such an old door. He should have figured that out weeks earlier. Work started in June and I was still dealing with him August. The final bill was well over his intial estimate, and he never provided an invoice of any kind, let alone one with any detail about supplies or labor. He just asked for more money periodically. The work that he did -- that he contracted out, more specifically-- was fine for the most part. Lucky played the role of project manager, and he did it poorly. He was unresponsive, unorganized, and unprofessional.
Description of Work: Interior and exterior painting of a screened-in porch. Exterior painting of a kitchen window. Installation of interior and exterior lighting for the screened-in porch. Installation of a closer on the porch screen door. Installation of a lock on the door leading from the porch to the house. Screen repair.

Overall, an excellent service. We had already purchased the replacement window which proved to be the wrong type. Lucky and his crew went out of their way to return the original window (with no receipt) and acquired the proper replacement from a different retailer. They squared a somewhat uneven window frame and completed the work in a very professional manner. Now, 2 months later and very cold, the window installation is performing very well.

The overall experience of working with Lucky was not satisfactory. Lucky is a very pleasant man, but he was late for every meeting that we scheduled. We originally agreed to meet at on 11/18 at 11:00 to have him take a look at the work we had in mind. I called him at 12:00 when he still hadn't shown up and he said that he must have had a mix-up because he thought we weren't meeting until 1:00. When he looked over the jobs we agreed that the first thing that we would work with him on was the installation of crown moulding in our den. He and his sub-contractor were around a half hour late. The actual work quality was quite good and Lucky's sub-contractor, Tim, was a pleasure to work with. There was a follow-on job to have an attic ladder installed. After a series of delays, Lucky contacted me to say that he would be over at 1:00 on 12/2 to collect a deposit for the purchase of the ladder. He didn't arraive until after 3:00. His crew was to arrive at 8:30 on 12/3 to install the ladder. We had not heard from anyone associated with Lucky's organization by 10:30. At that time, we decided not to work with Lucky any more. We left voice and email messages to that effect. Lucky did call to apologize after getting our messages. One aspect of dealing with Lucky that was troubling was that he blamed his sub-contractors for everything that went wrong. When one is the head of an organization, it is that person's sole responsibility when things go wrong. It really did leave a bad taste, when Lucky made excuses blaming his subs for lateness. Anyone can pick up the phone and call if he is going to be late. Lateness without notification communicates that, though Lucky recognizes that his time is valuable (he is being paid for it), my time is worthless. It is not the case that my time is worthless, and I won't work with a company that fails to recognize the value of my time.
Description of Work: We worked with Lucky on one job (installation of crown moulding) and attempted to work with him on a second (installation of an attic ladder into a new opening).

I was pleased initially. After we paid him, it occurred to me that the problem may have been a simple matter of the main electronic switch for the dishwasher may have been accidentally switched off; in retrospect I suspected that this may have been the case because Lucky gave me glib and nonspecific response when I asked him what the problem was. I should say that I have NO concrete evidence to validate my suspicions, but this lingering doubt, coupled with his lack of follow-up, have convinced me to not hire House Wizards again. I took Lucky around my house and explained a variety of small jobs we needed to have done. He took scrupulous photos and assured me that his team would take care of things. He called once, when I was on my way to work, to see if I would be home to meet one of his associates. I said no. I didn't hear from him again.
Description of Work: Initially I was impressed with Lucky's punctuality and responsiveness. Our dishwasher was not working and there seemed to be a problem with the wiring. Lucky and his associate fixed it quickly, and they installed a new part.

I had numerous bids come in for a remodel of my laundry room--Lucky had very good customer service and followed through whenever he said he would; Lucky was very responsive in both the sales cycle and in the actual work. The quote for the work was fair and the quality of work was good. I had them put together and install Ikea cabinetry, install a laundry room sink, move some electrical, build a closet around my water heater and suffet in the ceiling pipes. They had some good feedback in terms of layout that I found very useful. I then had them come back and do a tile backsplash--again very good quality of work. As with any contractor relationship, I would recommend making sure you're both clear on price and if you're working with them on an hourly basis ensure that they will not go over on the hours without being clear first so there is no question on price and I would also make sure that you have every little detail finished before giving final payment--ultimately though, Lucky and Hirsch finished everything and there were no issues. Overall my experience was a very positive one and I will use them in the future. I would recommend them.

When I was told the hourly rate, I assumed it was for two men. In fact they each charged $60 an hour. One of the men worked while the other spent most of his time on the phone. The work they did was done well, but I would never use them again because of their price and because I did not get the hours for which I paid in advance.
