Estrada Fences

It didn't. The owner missed the 1st meeting entirely and called the next day asking to reschedule which I was happy to do. He showed up on time the 2nd appointment and reviewed the work to be done. He promised a proposal and it never did come.

Estrada kept to its scheduled appointments and texted to ensure information exchange was understood and timely. The estimates were clear, including materials, payment terms, and tasks they expect the customer to perform (e.g., provide water, electricity, any permits needed.) The work for the first estimate was completed on time, as described and expected, for the approved amounts. When they found that the posts had not originally been set in concrete and had rotted below ground, i.e., an unexpected condition, they showed us right then and made sure we agreed on the next steps and updated estimate ($1000 from the original $800). The tree service was able to complete the updated work on the original schedule. Estrada returned quickly, though it was late in the day, to ensure the removed pposts and fence section were replaced. Five months and several snows and rains later, their work is still sturdy. Our association has yet to decide on complete fence replacement as we need landscape storm water drainage and yard grading done before the fence can be considered. We expect to schedule that soon and certainly keep Estrada's fence replacement estimate in the running for fence replacement soon after that. Attached is a photo of the fence replacement work, not including the other repairs. Fence sits well on remaining stump and raised root system of removed tree, which is what we need until the entire fence is replaced. Extra bracing added to adjacent sections to ensure they remain strong.

Not well, the work was not done adequately

I found this contractor on Angie's List so I assumed they would be a good contractor. They were punctual in coming out to review the job and provide an estimate. After the meeting they said a quote would be prepared in 2 days. To date nothing has been received. If they are too busy for the job, they should tell me upfront and not waste my time.

I called once and left a message and no one ever called me back. Called a few weeks later and someone came by to measure. They told me that I would get a call back with pricing but, again, no one ever called me back. I also lost confidence when the person was unable to name an item I needed for the fencing. They called it something completely different. Mind you, all our communication was in Spanish since I am bilingual; so we understood each other well. I am giving a C overall because I have no idea what the quality of the work would have been.

Very good. Although there was some initial miscommunication about what we needed, once it was communicated they came back right away and we had a great end result.

Neither gates work, many parts of fence already leaning after only three years. Luis does not stand behind his work. He tried once to fix problems then told me I'd have to hire someone else if I want working gates.

Estrada was quick to respond and provide estimate. Estimate was fair. I chose them because they had a short turnaround, and had good reviews here. The installation of 133' of cedar fence, with one single gate and one double gate, went smoothly and quickly enough, but I noticed problems soon afterward. After allowing time for the posts to settle in the cement, I removed wood support blocks from underneath the gates. Neither the single gate or the double gate opened properly. I immediately notified Estrada, and a crew came in to repair both gates. Soon after the gates were "repaired" (all they did was re-align the hinges), the double gate once again sagged, and could not be used. Then we had a storm that broke the single gate. Due to the latch not being realigned after the hinges were re-aligned during repairs, our single gate flew open, damaging the gate, the post, and the hinges. I contacted Estrada again to repair the repairs. Estrada's response was to blame me for leaving the gates open (which I didn't). He then told me to find a new fence company to make the repairs. I was hoping Estrada would stand behind their work. I explained the problems with the initial install, the problems with the repair, and detailed how the current repairs were needed due to the installation problems. In the end, I took Estrada's advice, and hired a new expert to make the repairs. I was informed by the expert that the large double gate did not have adequate support, or strong enough hinges. It needed new hinges, along with support cables and reinforced posts. The expert also informed me that the single gate was not level, and he could see that the hinges were re-aligned, but the latches were not. He put new hinges on, and added longer screws to make the gate stronger. The screws Estrada used were too short, which is why gate came apart during the storm. This company does quick, low quality work, and does not stand behind their work. They are not capable enough to know how to build adequately supported gates that open and close properly.

Estrada Fences responded promptly to our call and provided an estimate and completed the work as scheduled. They did an excellent job repairing the fence and we wouldn't hesitate to contact them again.

Unlike some previous reviews, the owner was on time and responsive to my various questions. The team that installed the fence was on time, friendly, cleaned up and did a couple of small jobs for me at no extra cost.

I got an estimate from Estrada (almost immediately) and then had to wait two weeks for another provider to give an estimate. Estrada's estimate was less, so I hired them. Within 5 days of hiring Estrada, the old fence was ripped out and the new fence was in! They spent all day at our place on a Saturday in 90 degree heat and did a great job! They even repaired a broken latch on another gate for free. Great job and would use them again in a heartbeat.

Luis came out promptly to give an estimate to replace our 240' fence in the backyard. He was fast and knew what he was talking about. He got a bid out to us quickly and it was a very good price. The only reason we did not go with Estrada Fences is that I really wanted the arbor gate like the one we currently have, and they couldn't build it. He did suggest to go on line to purchase one and they would install it. I did look into that option, but I ended up not wanting the additional step in this big job. But this is ONLY reason we did not go with his company. I have already recommended Estrada Fences to my brother who needs to replace part of his fence. His prices are the best and he was very responsive from start to finish in my dealings with him.

Luis provided an estimate for our fence two years ago. At that time we just decided to repair the fence, not replace. When we were ready to replace the fence, I thought Luis was the guy for the job, so I asked him to give us a new estimate. However, since the estimate wasn't quite right (we needed larger posts than were estimated for, for instance), I asked if he could look at the fence again so the estimate was accurate. After not responding to my emails, I called him. He informed me that it was against his religion to look at our fence again. I guess he has so much business, he doesn't need $14,000 in new business.

Estrada Fences responded to my need for fence repairs when other providers were not responsive or priced ridiculously high due to high volume of jobs after a severe wind storm. I paid Luiz $900 for 9 post replacements and reattachment of the fence. When Luiz was finished my 2 yard gates closed beautifully and matched up with the locks, which had not been the case for years. I did not expect such perfect craftsmanship. Also they did the work on the day after the quote, which was within 3 days of my original call. They cleaned up and hauled away the old cement too.

I got an estimate from Luis along with several other fencing contractors when a large part of my fence blew over in a recent storm. It was old and leaning anyway, so I just wanted to go ahead and replace the whole thing. To be honest, when I first met with Luis, I was fairly certain I wouldn't hire him. He didn't put his phone on silent while he was talking to me and it just kept ringing and ringing the whole time. So I didn't want to ask many questions, I just wanted him out of there so I didn't have to listen to the phone ringing anymore. He also didn't volunteer much information, unlike other people I met with who gave me some information about the differences between what materials they would use and what had been used for my old fence. However, he did give me a written quote and, after meeting with other fencing contractors, I had enough information about fencing options to evaluate what Luis was proposing in that quote. Of the four proposals I got, the price and material quality combo in the Estrada fencing quote was the best and I set up an appointment for a couple of weeks out. The crew showed up on the appointed day around 9 and did the whole job within a 9-10 hour period. The fence looks good. It was custom made with red cedar planks, not the pressure-treated segments from the hardware store. I was a little concerned that doing to the whole job in a day wasn't going to allow enough time for the concrete around the post bases to set well enough and that they therefore would not be straight...however, it does appear to be fairly straight. The guys who came the day of the installation were good to work with and friendly. They removed the old fence, as promised along with the pieces of fencing that had fallen over in the storm. However, they did fill one of our trash cans with heavy debris from the work, which the garbage collectors probably could have refused to take if they were bigger sticklers, but they didn't, so it was fine. They also didn't wash the concrete spatters off of our walk, so we have areas that are discolored...or rather, we have areas that are not discolored, unlike our old walkway. This is not a big deal to me, but if I had a fancy flagstone walk it would be a problem (but maybe they would have been more careful about cleaning up in that instance). Ultimately, I would recommend this company. The experience wasn't flawless but some people near us has a similar length fence installed only a couple of days later and paid more for something that is lower grade. So, I feel happy with what I paid for.

Super nice guy. Local Evanston company. Timely quote and follow-up. Emailed handwritten proposal and work completed 3 days later during late winter. Office representative very friendly too.

Asked for estimate. He likes to hang up on customer in the middle of conversation. Poor business skills

The project went relatively smoothly despite a false start. Luis was very very responsive and easy to work with. I was pleased with the quality of the work and the professionalism of everyone I spoke and worked with at Estrada Fence.

It went well. They were fast, professional, and responsive to a few unanticipated challenges. For example, the lock from the manufacturer did not work for one of the gates and so they needed to come back once a new one came in. As soon as it was in, they came over. Also, the gates were not closing on their own as they were supposed to be so the onsite guys asked their gate expert to come over. He came over the next morning (as it was already getting dark) and got them working properly. As with all work, I recommend the owner look over everything at "the end of the day" so anything that isn't quite right can be addressed without requiring them to come back. The fence looks wonderful!

Due to high winds and posts subjected to wet rot, multiple portions of our cedar fence fell over. This was an emergency situation as it also affected our neighbors. Luckily, we were able to contact Estrada and someone came out the same day to give us a quote on the situation. Thereafter, he was able to move around some of their projects in order to accommodate us (which as everyone on here probably knows never happens!!). They came with all the materials and we didn't have to move a finger. They even swept the excess dirt from the walkway back towards the fence, which was not necessary, but clearly an indication of their care and professionalism. They worked swiftly and were able to finish the project in a couple of hours. There were some odds and ends that they noticed as well (a shaky iron railing along a set of stairs) which they fixed for us without us even saying anything! Not many companies would do that and we are so appreciative of the care and quality of their work. I would highly recommend their services to anyone; truly a diamond in the rough. I gave an A for pricing because we received quotes from others and they were in line with competitors. The reason we chose this company over another was their responsiveness and not jerking us around. They knew what had to be done and communicated it effectively.

Never responded with a quote

Luis was ultra-prompt (within two hours) in coming over and his quote was done on the spot, just a ten minute visit and no glad handing or chatting, just a careful measurement and some questions. An e-mail confirmed the quote, though the estimate was not very detailed (did not mention post caps, for example, though these were provided). They came four days later after we'd done a confirming e-mail regarding post spacing and type (a metal hinge post and 7 cedar posts). Showed up on time on a Saturday mid-morning, and the crew guy checked out the details with me as they went along. Turns out their instructions were not complete (board spacing, gate dimensions) but they seem able to work that out on the spot. We chose this firm because (a) they build their "shadowbox" panels on site (in our driveway) vs using pre-made ones with wider spacing. That allowed me to have the overlap board spacing I wanted, though I had to show them. (b) they use deck screws, no nails (c) reviews were all pretty good. The job took 5-6 hours, and I was impressed with how these guys work at a reasonable pace, but not wasting time. The crew guy checked in as they went along on details, including a final "walk-around" before asking for payment. They cleaned up well, and were respectful in not damaging our vegetable gardens just a short distance from the fence line. We have two dogs who may try to get out, so the addition of a second metal (latch) post to square the gate was helpful. Original quote was for wood, but no added cost resulted. Only downside was the job did not include a spring, just a latch, so you might think ahead on that. It took another sweaty hour for me to add the heavy gate spring (had one on hand) and two supplemental screen door springs (one trip to hardware store) for a secure self-closing gate. Estrada seems "workman-like" not "craftsman-like," so if you are very particular, or detail oriented, you might do well to look to other firms. But building a fence (I've done a few) is not exacting, just hard work.We got very good value from the job, and the second metal gate post was a blessing since our previous gate was always going adrift in strong winds. I'd call Estrada again anytime!

I was forced to find another fence installer company after my 1st guy spent 27 days and was only 50% done. I was quoted 2 days for an 80' fence. So Estrada was the next installer I called. The guy came out for the quote and called me when he arrived. I was in the backyard (where the fence is) working and the next store neighbor was installing a roof, so it was loud. I missed his call and called him back 9 minutes later. Actually 9 mins later! He said I had missed my opportunity and he wouldn't come back. He went on to say he would not pick up a project in the middle of it anyways. This baffled me because I explained my situation to him when I first called to set up an appointment. Then, I asked why you would even come out if you wouldn't take it in the first place??? He didn't have much to say to that. Result= poor customer service and another hour of my life wasted (and still no fence).

Team was on time and did a great job. Craftsmanship and cost were very good. Only issue that came up was that they cut our internet cable twice but fixed it before completing the job.

Emailed quote was received when promised. Estimate lacked details I was looking for, so I asked for references or even a pic of past work and was given a negative reply and a statement that he does not like it when customers ask for this and ended the conversation.
