+ -1 moreThe invoice clearly states that 'Payment is due on completion' but the driver insisted on payment when the rug was picked up. The charge was over $200 to pick up, deliver, and clean an 8 x 10 rug. Ridiculously high! Made us feel like criminals! This $208 charge was less a 20% discount - would have been closer to $250!
Description of Work: Pick up an 8 x 10 area rug to be cleaned. Just an inexpensive rug.

Description of Work: We had two carpets picked up to be cleaned. Gentlemen who picked up were on time and efficient. We were told we would be called when carpets were ready (a week to ten days), but when no phone call came after 2 weeks, my husband called and Central said they would call him back. They didn't. When I returned home from vacation, I called and about a day later one of the representatives of Central did call me back. We scheduled a time and again, gentlemen delivering were on time/efficient. I felt unsure as to why it took so long to clean two carpets (almost 30 days) and was uncomfortable with leaving messages and then having someone return my calls...or not with no explanation as to why it was taking so long. The carpets were well cleaned/dried, but there's something in the process of phone calling and talking to one person, then someone else calling me to reiterate basically the same information that bothered me this time. Maybe they've downsized office staff or something, but I shouldn't have to "worry" about the return of my carpets. Central is a long time Evanston business, but I hope they create a more streamlined communication process.

+ 0 moreWe already have ceramic tile in the rec room and office in our basement, but we wanted a better solution than painting in the areas where water had been an occasional problem. They made some suggestions in their showroom, came over to measure and began the process in just a few days. The floor prep and actual tiling was done in two days by one very efficient an polite installer who left no messes or dirt behind. He moved everything; washer, dryer, storage shelves, etc, and put down tile that looks like wood planks in the laundry and storage portions of our basement. The look is amazing and time will tell about durability and water resistance.

+ -1 moreThe work cost us $900. Also, they replaced some of the carpets with tiles. So, that cost us an additional $600. My overall experience is that I am not planning to use them again. They spilled some glue on the floor when they did the carpet, but they did come back to clean that up. The work was overall satisfactory. I was deciding whether to glue the carpets or not. I was told that if the carpets were glued, then I wouldn’t be able to pick them up and dry them. However, that was misinformation. Ultimately, they ended up putting back what I already had. I could’ve gotten by without changing any carpets because once the carpets were glued down, there was nothing underneath to create mold. All I had to do was clean the carpets. This company convinced me to tear off the carpet and then they made me agree to buy a carpet from them on the very same day. So, I had to buy the carpet. Ultimately, if they had told me the truth, I should have been fine with the old carpets. In future, I will only get the carpets shampooed. I will not use this company again in the future.

+ -1 moreI shopped around at all the big box stores and other carpet stores in the Evanston area, and Central Rug by far had the best price on carpeting. They only charged me $3.49/sq. ft. for name brand carpeting. The price included installation, padding, tear up and haul away of old carpeting, and even taxes. The only additional charge was for moving the furniture, for which they charged an additional $50. One of the big box stores was going to charge me $139 for installation, plus an additional $50 for each piece of furniture they moved. Ron the salesman was very helpful in picking out the carpeting. They installed very good padding underneath the carpeting. The only complaint was that the earliest they could install it was 9 days after the carpet arrived. I wouldn't have cared as much, but my condo living room flooded, so I had to have most of the carpeting in the living room pulled up, and then I discovered I had mold in my bedroom closet, and so I had to deal with that problem before I replaced the carpeting in the living room and bedroom, and I was tired of living with just a cement floor in my living room.
Description of Work: I purchased carpet from them, and had it installed in both my living room and my bedroom of my condo.

+ 0 moreBoth sales and service personnel were highly professional. My carpet was cleaned beautifully, as was the sofa. Ron was very personable and helpful in consulting over the phone about my particular needs. Also in finding the most reasonable and economical solution. The cleaning crew showed up about 15 minutes after the stated service window, but that didn't present a real problem. They worked efficiently, were meticulous in doing the work and in arranging sofa cushions for optimal drying.
Description of Work: I used their drop-off carpet cleaning service for an area rug and had them clean a sofa when they delivered the clean rug.

+ -1 moreI think they did a pretty good job. It seemed to be more expensive than what my neighbors were paying though. They cleaned the dog hairs and they were great at that. They basically moved, cleaned, and moved it back and they put in little pieces of plastic too. The rooms were cheap, but the stairs were expensive to me.
Description of Work: They cleaned the carpet in 3 rooms, one hallway and two sets of stairs. They also cleaned some area rugs. The general spring clean up. They moved furniture in the bedrooms.

+ -1 morePick up was on schedule. They said it would take a week, but it ended up taking two weeks and I had to call them to learn the status of the cleaning. I thought they should have called me to tell me it would take longer than expected, not me call them. When they did deliver the rug, they were punctual and the cleaning job was very good. There was no sign of the water damage.

+ -1 moreI was told that small dressers would be moved. I took everything off one 4 drawer chest, approx. 30 lbs, and 1 antique dressing table that has wheels on the legs. It took them less then 20 minutes to clean. They didn't move a thing. But worse, I had a very noticeable dirt line about two inches wide, all the way around the edge of my ivory carpeting. They didn't clean up to the wall. I wrote a letter to the store manager and never got a response.

HIS WAY OF SAYING TO WAIT A DAY TO BE SURE AFTER IT HAD DRIED WAS DEFENSIVE, RATHER THAN INFORMATIVE. WHEN I CALLED THE PLANT TO ASK THE SAME QUESTIONS, THE PERSON I TALKED TO WAS GREAT. ASSURED ME IT WOULD LOOK BETTER WHEN IT HAD A DAY TO DRY, BUT TO CALL BACK IF I WAS NOT HAPPY. IT WAS BETTER THE NEXT DAY. NOT LIKE NEW, BUT IT IS NOT NEW.
