Owner-operated. No subs. Cost is determined by the job. 40 yrs. in business. I provide an expert analysis of your plumbing situation & I usually offer my customers more than one alternative way of approaching their situation. I explain to my customers in plain talk so they can make a rational decision. Finally, my customers feel confident that they made the best decision in regards to their plumbing problem. I offer what I feel is the lowest service call price which makes using my services an easy decision.
Description of Work: Needed my plumbing main line checked out. Since the main line connects to a septic system, rather than a sewer system, they wouldn't touch it, and they could (would) not suggest anyone who could help.

Good quality work, showed up on time, checked his work, pleasant to deal with. Expensive, but he offers a 20% discount for seniors. He didn't realize I was a senior during visit and billed me at his normal rates. Phoned him up the next day and he promised to refund the amount of the discount. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when he rang my doorbell today and handed me a hundred bucks, which is approximately correct. I give him credit for honesty.

Bob arrived in very short order and quickly solved the problem with the clogged drain. Since he was there I also asked him to clean out a slow drain in a bathtub, which he did at no charge (blow out). I also asked him about a slow kitchen faucet and he recommended replacing it. He went to the hardware store to purchase a faucet for me and installed it. The total cost included the price of the new faucet and supplies to install it. My only concern is that he did not replace the cover over the bathtub overflow hole and left some putty for me to clean up. I'd still hire him again.
Description of Work: I ran a load of laundry in my washing machine overnight and woke up to find that water was overflowing onto the floor and that the water would not drain normally from the washing machine. Bob came within about 30 minutes and turned off the water, then rodded out the drain line. He found a clog and rodded it out.

I would call Bob back for routing!
Description of Work: Bob came over and routed after I had a flood and another plumber had come out. I explained to Bob where the other plumber had routed and Bob went to work. Bob said he had gone much further then the last plumber and charged me less. I went ahead with using a lot of water just to make sure I no longer had a problem. After two loads of laundry and a shower the water started to come back up. I called Bob back and explained, he replied that he would be back. Bob was back within the next hour and routed directly where the water had come up. Bob got a little further then the last plumber but then could not get any further. Bob felt bad explaining that he does not do sewer or underground work. Bob did not charge me more even thougt he came back and tried again.

I had noted a dark spot in my kitchen around a ceiling light, right under where my upstairs bathroom was. My parents have used Bob Peterson many times before, so I called him out to have a look. We originally thought the issue was the bathtub, but it seemed well-sealed. On a lark he decided to look at the toilet, and lo and behold that was the problem. The toilet connector seal had rotted clean through (it's the only one in the house that hadn't bee replaced recently), and the flange in the floor has cracked. Bob put in a new seal, and put braces on the flange. (Replacing it would have required ripping out the whole floor.) There was a lot of water spillage due to the rotted seal, but Bob took the time to clean it up nicely. Since then there's been no issue with the toilet or leakage. He did not do anything to help address the existing water damage. I don't know if that's a service he offers, but I ended up doing that myself later. That entailed removing the light, draining it (it had standing water in it, not good), letting it air dry for a week or two, and then sanding down the ceiling before reattaching the light. I've had no problems since then. Note that Bob does not take credit card, so be sure to have a checkbook handy. I didn't (my bank doesn't believe in them), so I had to send him an e-check online instead. Fortunately he was quite cooperative and didn't make a fuss about it.
Description of Work: A rotted toilet seal was causing water to seek through the floor into the light in the kitchen below. Ick. The seal was replaced and the toilet reseated. No issues since.

Our sewer line backed up into the utility room and the downstairs shower due to tree roots from the many large trees in our neighborhood. I called Bob Peterson Plumbing. He came over within the hour. He checked the outside cleanout and the inside cleanout and decided it would be better to do the job from the inside. He roddded out the line from the utility room to the street. We have had no problem since.

It went terribly. He was sloppy, took longer than he stated, and charged me much more than was necessary. He did not finish the work either. This was NOT in Indiana you goof! We lived in Evanston, IL at the time- right around the corner from you and your dog. I think his name was Orero.

The dollar amounts for each of these jobs were listed without any breakdown into parts and labor, or specification of "senior" or other discounts, though he stated that he had taken $100 off the total. The amount of time he spent on the entire visit was about 4 hours. Because of questions that we had with the above items, we called him back for in-person clarification. He returned the next day and answered our questions courteously and helpfully, with acknowledgement of the inadequacy of his billing statement. However there was no adjustment of the original bill, or amount of charge. We felt that he had adequately answered most of our questions and that the quality of his repairs have been performing satisfactorily do far.
Description of Work: Plumbing repairs, as stated on bill. Billing info inadequate. It consisted only of a list of work done in abbreviated fashion and poor handwriting, as follows: (I have added a few words for info, in parentheses): "Electric rod kitchen (sink) waste 30 ft. to stack(?), remove/replace both sides of kitchen drains, replace two basket strainers, repair kitchen faucet-replace cartridge and 0 rings, remove and replace relief (over-flow?) valve (on water heater), clear bath waste (improve drainage from bathtub by using air-pressure device at drain outlet).

He did not show up for an appointment. I called him to ask where he was, he told me he thought it was the next day. I still need a plumber so asked him to come the next day. He then told me that he needed to check his book (odd considering he missed the first appointment thinking it was the next day). He told us that he could come next day but than missed that appointment as well. Needless to say we did not reschedule with him. He had wasted enough of our time.

I AM STILL TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THE NEXT PART HE STOOD THERE, AND ACTUALLY WATCHED MY WIFE EMPTY THE TOILET FOR HIM WHILE HE TRIED TO LINE UP ADDITIONAL JOBS ON HIS CELL PHONE. A FEW MINUTES LATER HE TOLD US THE COLLAR ON THE DRAIN WAS BROKEN. TODAY, I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHETHER OR NOT THAT WAS TRUE, BUT BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE I DON'T BELIEVE IT. HE THEN WORKED ON THE COLLAR, AND UN-CLOGGED THE DRAIN AND PUT THE TOILET BACK ON. HE THEN TOLD US THE TOILET WAS REALLY LEAKING. AMAZING, SINCE THE TOILET WAS WORKING PERFECTLY THE DAY BEFORE AND IS LESS THAN 3 MONTHS OLD. HE THEN FIXED THE TOILET AND SUBMITTED A BILL. $567!!!! NO ESTIMATES, AND GET THIS, HE TOLD US THE MINIMUM CHARGE TO UNCLOG A DRAIN WAS SOMETHING LIKE $200 (PLUS THE $59 HE HAD QUOTED ME). TO TOP IT ALL OFF, HE GOT CRAP ALL OVER THE WALLS AND ACTUALLY PUT THE TOILET ON CROOKED!!!!! I AM GOING TO HAVE TO FIX THAT MYSELF. THIS GUY IS REALLY, REALLY BAD NEWS.
Description of Work: I HAVE USED MANY CONTRACTORS OVER THE YEARS AND THIS BY FAR WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. I FELL COMPELLED TO LET YOU KNOW SO YOU DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE. WE HIRED BOB BECAUSE HE TOLD ME THE CHARGE TO COME TO THE HOUSE WAS ONLY $59. WHEN HE ARRIVED, HE QUICKLY DETERMINED THE SOURCE OF THE CLOG WAS FROM A TOILET. INSTEAD OF ATTEMPTING TO SNAKE THE TOILET, HE TOLD MY WIFE THAT THE TOILET WOULD NEED TO COME OFF. HE STOOD THERE LOOKING AT THE TOILET AND SAID, WELL, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO GET THE WATER OUR OF THERE.

THIS JOB STARTED OUT AS A SIMPLE ROUTINE JOB THAT I DO AT LEAST ONCE WEEK. HOWEVER, THE HOME IS A FAIRLY NEW HOME. EVIDENTLY THE PLUMBER WHO DID THE ORIGINAL PLUMBING ON THE HOME DID A SLOPPY JOB INSTALLING THE TOILET CLOSET COLLAR UNDERNEATH THE TOILET. HE LEFT THE CLOSET COLLAR BROKEN ON ONE SIDE, WHICH MEANT THE TOILET WAS ANCHORED ON ONLY ONE SIDE. IF LEFT UNCORRECTED THE TOILET WILL SHIFT AND POSSIBLY BREAK. WHEN IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THE JOB WAS REQUIRING ME TO OPEN THE FLOOR I ADVISED THE MEMBER OF THE ADDED TIME AND EXPENSE. AFTER THE THREE HOUR JOB WAS COMPLETED THE MEMBER CALLED HER HUSBAND. HE WENT BALLISTIC OVER THE PRICE. I OFFERED AND DID REDUCE THE COST BY $100 TO BE COMPLETELY FAIR. HE BECAME IRATE. HE THREATENED ACTION AGAINST ME IF I CHARGED MORE THAN $150. HONESTLY, THREE HOURS OF HARD WORK OPENING THE FLOOR PLUS MATERIAL JUST HAS TO COST MORE THAN $150. I HAVE A VERY FINE REPUTATION WITH HUNDREDS OF NICE CUSTOMERS AND I WASN'T GOING TO BE BLACKMAILED BY HIS THREATS. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME WORKING FOR HIM. THE FIRST TIME I HAD REPAIRED FROZEN PIPES AND HE FORCED ME TO SETTLE FOR A SUBSTANTIAL LABOR CUT THEN TOO. HE IS NOT THE KIND OF CUSTOMER I'M LOOKING FOR.

SHAME ON US FOR NOT WORKING OUT THE FEES IN ADVANCE - LESSON LEARNED. THAT SAID, WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT WE WOULD BE CHARGED SO MUCH FOR A PROBLEM POSSIBLY CAUSED BY THE PLUMBER'S ORIGINAL WORK (CERTAINLY DEDUCTING THE ORIGINAL $134 FROM THE SECOND FEE, HIGH AS IT WAS, WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD GESTURE). BOB SHOULD HAVE ALERTED US OF HIS HIGH FEES BEFORE STARTING THE JOB. WE BELIEVE WE WERE TAKEN FOR A RIDE BECAUSE WE DID NOT GET AN ESTIMATE IN ADVANCE. WE HAD BEEN HAPPY WITH BOB'S WORK BEFORE THIS POINT, BUT HE WILL NOT BE GETTING ANY OF OUR FUTURE BUSINESS.
Description of Work: WORK REQUESTED WAS TO FIX A SLOW DRAIN IN A BATHTUB. BOB CAME TO FIX A SLOW BATHTUB DRAIN. HE BEGAN BY USING AN AIR COMPRESSOR ON THE BATHTUB WHICH CAUSED THE FLOOR DRAIN TO EXPLODE COATING EVERY SURFACE OF THE BATHROOM WITH BLACK SLUDGE. WE HAD TO CLEAN UP THE ENTIRE MESS, WHICH TOOK TWO OF US OVER 6 HOURS OF WORK. BOB SNAKED THE DRAIN SEVERAL TIMES AFTER USING THE AIR COMPRESSOR WITH NO RESULTS - STILL A SLOW DRAIN AND A BIG MESS. FOR THIS WE WERE CHARGED $134. THEN THE PIPES SPRUNG A LEAK IN THE FLOOR CAUSING WATER TO LEAK INTO THE UNIT BELOW OURS. BOB CAME BACK TO FIX THIS AND HE DID COME BACK RIGHT AWAY WHEN WE CALLED HIM. HE REPLACE SEVERAL PIECES OF PIPE VIA THE CEILING OF THE UNIT BELOW. AGAIN, WE DID MOST OF THE CLEAN UP AND DEBRIS REMOVAL. FOR THIS WE WERE CHARGED ANOTHER $1400 FOR 6 HOURS OF WORK.

BOB SHOWED UP WITHIN 20 MINUTES OF APPOINTMENT, AND IMMEDIATELY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM. HE BEGAN RODDING AND THE SEWER LINE WAS CLEANED WITHIN 45 MINUTES OF ARRIVAL. HE CALLED TO LET ME KNOW HE WAS ON HIS WAY, AND ARRIVED RIGHT ON TIME. HE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING IN DETAIL. HE SAID THAT HE MOSTLY ONLY WORKS IN EVANSTON.
Description of Work: PREVIOUS TO HAVING BOB PETERSON ROUT OUR LINE TO THE SEWER - WE HAD A DIFFERENT COMPANY COME OUT - THEY SENT TWO GUYS WHO SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO CLEAR THE LINE BECAUSE IT WAS ''BLOCKED SOLID WITH TREE ROOTS'' AND THAT WE WERE GOING TO NEED WORK THAT WAS GOING TO COST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. I CALLED BOB PETERSON (A NEIGHBOR RECOMMENDED HIM) BECAUSE I WANTED A 2ND OPINION, AND HE WAS ABLE TO CLEAR OUT THE LINE IN LESS THAN AN HOUR.

THE WORK WAS OVERALL VERY GOOD, ALTHOUGH HE DIDN'T CAULK AROUND THE NEW SPOUT. HIS AVAILABILITY WAS GOOD. HE SEEMS LIKE A GOOD NO-NONSENSE PLUMBER. ALSO THE PRICE INCLUDED THE COST OF THE NEW SPOUT WHICH HE HAPPENED TO HAVE ON HAND. JOB 2: AFTER WORKING ON THE CLOG OURSELVES AND WITH THE BUILDING HANDYMAN, WE MADE THE MISTAKE OF FIRST CALLING A MORE COMMERCIAL ROOTER TYPE SERVICE. THEY WERE UNABLE TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THAT'S WHEN WE CALLED BOB. HE CAME OVER, DID WHAT HE NEEDED TO DO, AND WAS WAY MORE REASONABLE THAN THAT COMMERCIAL COMPANY. WE'LL NEVER USE ANYONE BUT BOB AGAIN.
Description of Work: JOB 1 ($314): BOB UNCLOGGED TWO SLOW RUNNING DRAINS AND REPLACED A BATH TUB SPOUT. JOB 2 ($370): BOB UNBLOCKED OUR SEVERELY CLOGGED TOILET. IT REQUIRED IT TO BE TAKEN OFF OF THE FLOOR AND UNBLOCKED. HE THEN RESEALED IT.
