Terminix - Elmhurst -Termite & Pest Control

Initially, we got three estimates and, as I said, Terminex was the most thorough and professional yet the least expensive. They honored a 10% discount coupon from Angie's List as well as giving us a great deal - they gave us an extended warranty of 3 years past the initial one year for the price of two years in which they agree to come out, inspect and treat any further termite activity. The inspector was thorough, showed me what he was looking for and was honest about the stakes being worthless, though they still sell them. He explained they do work but it takes forever. He also told me termites are there in the soil everywhere, all the time and you never know when they will possibly be drawn to one's home. That's when I realized that mulching near the house with hardwood had been a bad idea and he agreed. After we considered our options and chose Terminex, we put down a deposit and made payment arrangements and signed a contract. The installer came out on the date scheduled, on time and completed the work in a timely fashion. I had a few questions, and he answered them.

Call returned promptly, appointment made for next day, came on time, explained their approach, discussed contract, and scheduled service technician. The technician was also well qualified and did a thorough job, explaining what he was doing and why.

They came out three times and never got rid of the bed bugs. I had someone else come out and they took care of them in one visit. He never looked around the bed frame or the carpet. I would not recommend using Teminix for bed bug services. You would be a fool to go to Terminix for bed bugs. They are expensive, cost me $550 to get them out here, $150 for sheet covers (that the bugs ruined) and another $100 for the sheets that were ruined. Do not use Terminix for bed bugs. It took their manager 3 weeks to get back to me (if he even was a manger). They won't guarantee it because I found out the spray they use does not kill the bed bug eggs, just the bed bugs. Make sure you use All-Over, owned by Kevin. He got rid of them in the first try. Terminix took 3 tries and still couldn't get rid of them.

They are out of control. They come on their own and they do not call beforehand. Then they will send you a bill without them doing anything yet. The last time I had to make 5 calls to get somebody out here who was to do the work but then did not do it correctly.

Terminix gave me a quote of $1000 and didn't even come out to look at the problem! I called other pest control companies that were much more reasonable and another company even came out to make sure that my issue was what I thought!

Our technician is outstanding. His name is Jonathan. He does a real thorough job and doesn’t rush. We are satisfied with them. For their price I don’t have anything to compare it to. So, for what I am willing to pay I think I am getting my money’s worth.

They do a great job. They're always very professional and polite.

I called Terminix for a problem with ants in my house. They were scheduled to come out on a Tuesday between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. for an evaluation of the problem. By 5:15 no one had shown up, nor had they called. I had to call the company and ask where the technician was and if he/she was still coming. I was told that the technician was still at a job in Indiana, which would be easily an hour and a half drive to get to my house (and that was if they were leaving right then). I asked if they could estimate when the technician would arrive at my house, and was told no because she (representative on the phone) had no way of knowing. I asked if the technicians had cell phones on them that they could call and update customers as to their status. I was told no, but that they do have radios. I asked if they use the radios to let the office know if they are running late; the answer was "sometimes", and that she did not know why this technician did not contact them. The representative on the phone did apologize, but did not seem eager to lessen my inconvenience of sitting around and waiting for an indeterminate amount of time. I cancelled the appointment and decided to take my business elsewhere. I understand if a job site takes longer than expected and causes the technician to get behind in the schedule, but to not even offer the courtesy of a call to the potential customer that has rearranged their schedule so they could sit around and wait is poor business practice, and, frankly, rude.

They were very pushy to get me to sign a contract. I only wanted to get the ant problem taken care of. The technician was a good salesman, but he was too pushy.

We paid $150 for a year's worth of service. They came out and left a note saying that they had been here. There was no scheduled time for them to arrive.

They ended up sending out a guy that was more scared of mice than I am, and I have a huge fear of mice. When we saw the mouse he screamed and ran just like I did. He did not even end up removing the mouse. I had to do that myself. All the disclaimers they said they were going to do, they did not end up doing. I ended up canceling, and they wanted me to pay extra. They claimed they came back out in the fall, but I did not see them and they left no notification. I ended up paying the fee just to get rid of them.

I would give them all A's. I will use them again.

They come back for free if you have a problem and re apply whatever you need. Whatever is being reported in the area as a problem they will treat for. I like the individual that comes to my house. He has good attention to detail. They are teaching their employees properly and are an example of that training. They do a really good job.

We have a long term contract with them. If anything arises between the scheduled visits, they'll come out within 1 to 3 days. We are definitely happy with their service. First and foremost, was cost, it is 40% less than one of the competitors. They have been very thorough, took the time to go over what they're doing, what they're looking for, what to keep an eye on, and made us feel at ease with the whole process. We've called them a couple of times and we feel they have never indicated for us not to keep calling them if any issues arose. We had some issues with ants and they alleviated the issue we had. We're just really happy with their service. We're going to have siding put on the house. We weren't going to keep the service, but, given the cost, and the hassle we've had in the past with the ants is worth their service. We want to them to come out within an half hour, but, they have multiple locations to deal with. I will continue to use them in the future.

I love Ernie!!! He is professional and knowledgeable. He entered my home and we discussed my problem. He explained what he was going to do and showed me step by step as we went along. He explained were the ants were coming from and actually found a few of the nests. I am bug free. I can't stop telling people of Terminex and Ernie. I had used Aerex before and they were worthless. Money hungry.

They're reliable. They show up as many times as I need them. They're always courteous. The technician calls me when he's 30 minutes away.

I would give them an A overall. I really like the guy that comes out. I will continue to use them in the future.

I don’t like them a whole lot and I probably will not use them again. I had a whole year with them but they just didn’t seem to take care of the problem I wanted them to take care of. I still have the spiders and bugs. I told them about it and they gave me a spray to spray myself because they only come every three months. They always came very fast when I called.

They are very good. I can cancel anytime. They are prompt and come right back if I have any problems or see any bugs. They will respray without any problem.

I have used them for several years. There is termite damage on my first floor, and they said it was old damage. The floors were only three years old, so there is no way the damage was old since I was under their care for three years. When they come over they said they see no activity but there is damage. When I called them, I was told their manager would call me back and as of yet he has not called me. They did respond and sent out an inspector.

I started with them when I first moved here in 1996. The previous owners had them when we moved to this house and we stayed with them. It was kind of like a maintenance thing and they were supposed to come out and inspect from time to time for termites and what not because, apparently, termites are a big problem here. After two or three years, we were getting billed and we had never seen anyone out here. My husband was disabled at the time and he was here all day. We also had a dog here and we would know if somebody was around the house. There were times when they didn't even come into the house, and I doubt whether they were outside the house because the dog would have alerted us. They would charge us saying that they didn't check inside but had checked outside around the house. They charged us almost like $100 when they did this. Anyway, I got rid of them. I called another company after that and they didn't find anything inside the house, but they did find an issue with termites in the wooden shed outside my house. They sprayed it and it has been fine since. I would like to say that Terminix was basically billing me for services I wasn't sure I ever had. The first two years, they would call in advance if they were going to come out, and they would inspect my house inside. They may have been here but I don't know. They may have come and looked outside but I have no evidence of that. They should have at least left something in the door or the mail box to say that they were here and indicated what they found. They showed me no evidence of what they supposedly did. The price was fine if they had showed me evidence. I actually did have them come out once in the first couple of years that we lived here because I noticed something that looked like sawdust on my dryer in the basement. There had been a termite issue and they came out here and sprayed, and I didn't have any problem with it. They were here right away when I called them.

I pay them yearly. I was able to negotiate the price. They come out and do their job. They did the work inside the house as well.

Usually, it is the same person that comes out every quarter, so they know our house and know what our issues are, so that I don't have to explain our issues over and over again. I like it because they always call before they are going to come out, so we know when they are going to come out. I again like the fact that we have usually the same person that comes out and is familiar with our issues and problem areas. They are yet to come this quarter, so our first spring spiders will do away whatever they want to do. When we had special issues with wasp and others, they have come out readily. We had no issues with their service whatsoever and found it to be very good. Their pricing is reasonable. I guess it also has to do with my priorities of not having bugs. Many people have told me that their service is expensive, but I think for the response they give when I need them for something urgently, and the value addition that it gives me is worth it. I will continue to use this provider again in the future.

We've been using them for years. I would never recommend Terminix to anybody, I always have to call them back several times, their timing is off, and the service is questionable. The billing is a mess, it's the biggest flaw, and they're incapable of doing a bill right. We have a long term commitment and contract with them for termites is why we use them. We have 3 different programs which are very complex. They've never gotten it right, they have started to get it right, but, it's took them 5 years to do that. I give them average ratings and will continue to use them in the future.

In the past, I have tried other exterminators and my problem increased. Terminix is the only one that gets rid of the pests.
