Jim is a nice enough person to work with if you do not have a timeline. Some of his subcontractors are great like flooring. Others, particularly his plumber, are terrible. Multiple code violations and callbacks to fix issues. My advice if you decide to use Jim is to not use allowances and make him provide a fixed price contract. He likes to make up the difference in his cheap quote to get your business by having most allowances categories come in much higher.

We hired Jim to build a major, two-story addition and he did an excellent job! It was a complicated project and we are very happy with the results. Jim has the right personality and experience to guide you through the inevitable stress and we will continue to recommend him to family and friends.

Jim is extremely easy to work with. He is very friendly and flexible. We have worked with him on multiple projects over the years. Including major updates to every floor of our house like new kitchen, master suite, windows, exterior, etc. his crew is also very friendly, accommodating and tidy. We could not recommend him more and will be sad when all of our projects are done.

Jim and his team are professional, polite and do excellent work. I will call him for any future jobs and recommend him to my family and friends.

Jim is a great communicator. That is vital when doing renovation. He had great ideas as well. He and his workers are kind and conscientious as well.

Walsh custom homes and his team where great! Jim (James Walsh) was honest from start to finish regarding the job price. We added a ton of 'new ideas' as the construction went on and Jim was receptive and went with all of our changes to perfect our job to what we wanted. It's now over two years since the job was completed and we love the addition to our home. Jim has also always followed up with anything that needs to be fixed even when the fault had nothing to do with his work. Highly recommended!

We hired Jim last year to do a complete gut rehab on our first floor and put a 2nd floor addition on our home. This was our first time doing this and was supposed to be our dream home. Jimâ s quote was significantly lower than everyone else and I found out why. He under quoted everything. Lumber bill doubled, a ton of the framing had to be corrected for safety reasons and he also took it upon himself to make decisions regarding my home without consulting with me. His plumber is absolutely horrendous and after we terminated Jim and his crew, the new contractor had to bring in his plumber to correct everything in order to pass inspections. He overcharged on the roofing after telling me the costs and refused to take any less even though we knew the cost. His communication and timelines are awful!! Had I not caught it early on, we would still be working on the project. Stay away from Walsh Custom Homes and please also stay away from Magic Plumbing. His company will under quote you to get the job and then hit you with tons of extras in the middle of the project making you feel locked in with him.

Hired Walsh Custom Homes May 2021 to update our mothers home for sale. We were told it would be 4-6 weeks (end of June). By end of August, we needed to hire our own plumber to finish the job and deducted the amount from the final payment. Poor communication, work not being done correctly and needed to be redone, no one showing up when scheduled. and too many other issues to list. You do not have to take our word for it, just watch Windy City Rehab, Season 4 (2023), episode 1, to see for yourself.

Jim has great customer service. Very friendly and honest. Always available and always on site for the project. Crew is very thorough and clean on daily basis. Carpenter does fantastic work. Work is guaranteed for year. Stands behind his work. No hidden costs. No extra costs unless I added something. Educated me on costs during the project. Have recommended to friends and neighbors. Will continue to recommend him.

He does excellent work and has a great vision for what needs to be done and how to do it correctly. He is a designer and a builder.
