Modern View Kitchen & Bath Remodeling

Mark & Modern View were fantastic!! They restored a 50 year old bath, and brought it into the 21st century. Mark's employee John is a master craftsman. He replaced plumbling, electrical and his tile work was exceptional. Mark offered suggestions was attentive to our needs. Out home was left spotless after every days work. Modern View is by far the best contractor we have ever worked with. Already thinking of future projects.

Great workmanship, the price was extremely competitive (I don't think I could have found a better price anywhere) and the materials were excellent. The workers were professional and polite, and always on time.

The first quote was about $17,000 then they raised it to $27,000. It's completion of remodeling that somebody else did and did not complete successfully. It was throughout a whole townhouse. The quotes were on the same work. A more detailed examination of the work involved. When we went over it more thoroughly and made sure that we were all talking about the same things it was an accurate quote. They did not do the work but I was strongly considering them.

It looks beautiful. They were very east to work with, very nice. The price was better than What I have been quoted before. They got stuck in traffic. It is hard around here with traffic, but they did show up. They did come, they didn’t brush it off because the traffic was bad. I made use them again, it depends on my funds.

Entire process went great. Mark was on time for the quote, was able to get the work scheduled quickly, and everything was completed on time and in budget.

The whole process with Modern View was always professional. Mark was open to my ideas and made some suggestions which I incorporated into the design. His tradesman, John, was unbelievably talented and also made some suggestions as the work was progressing. Always on time and cleaned up each day was appreciated. Also having Mark own a quartz company made the process smooth. I also like that I could shop around for the best prices on fixtures and vanity and they would install them. I will definitely use them for any future projects.

I put off doing these projects for several years because I didn't know anyone in the trades. I read the reviews about Modern View on Angie's list and finally took the plunge. I couldn't be more satisfied. Mark is the owner of the company and supervises a 4-man crew. He is friendly, patient, honest and very knowledgeable. John and Paul were the two tradesmen who worked on my projects; they did an great job--the quality of the workmanship was excellent. They kept to the agreed schedule--i.e, they started and finished the job when they said they would. Modern View quoted me, what I believe to be, a fair price for the work performed. Without any hesitation, I would highly recommend this company for bathroom remodels and ceramic floor installations.

They are flexible and do what they are asked of. With such a big project, it was noticed that they are not very disruptive while working which we appreciated.

Mark was very professional and responsive to all my questions. The work was done superbly and the tile guy was terrific!

Everything went extremely well. Wonderful attention to all the details involved were covered. Help was provided to me in planning the new bathroom and shopping help was given to me as needed. All debris was cleared away. Crew were friendly and very hard working. The contractor stopped by often to make sure everything was going well and he insisted on perfection. The bathroom is perfect and I am extremely pleased with the efforts on the part of all the staff at Modern View. I would strongly recommend them to anyone who needs remodeling done.

Initial estimate request was responded to very quickly. I obtained three estimates, and contacted Modern View to add to original estimate, wanted them to source the vanity and counter top. This is where I began to worry. Took a few email messages to get a response to my additional request. There were several days between contact, each time I had to send a request for an update. Was promised that I would have the estimate, and it came several days later than promised. Once I received an amended estimate, I asked for a picture of the vanity they were sourcing...radio silence. Never heard from the company again. They were the lowest estimate I received for the work and I have ultimately selected a different company for the project. It was concerning to me the lack of responsiveness, this raised a red flag that if I were to select them for the remodel, I worried I had have issues.

I've delayed writing this review because I'm not out to ruin anyone's business but my husband and I are SO unhappy with the work that was done, how it was done, and how it has held up. (Full disclosure: We never attempted to contact Modern View after the project was done because we were too stressed out and did not trust them to fix the problems. We wanted to cut off all contact.) We saw Mark at the start, when we signed the contract and gave him the deposit check, and the end, when he came to get the final check. In between, most of the work was done by two different men. The older man seemed to be the leader and seemed to have more experience. He would typically deliver instructions in Polish to the younger man and leave him to do the work. There was NO daily communication with me about what they were doing, unless I asked. And the younger man didn't speak English very well, so he often couldn't tell me. We did try to get information on a regular basis, but due to the size and location of the room we couldn't easily monitor what was going on in there. And honestly, the reason we hired a contractor is that we didn't WANT to micromanage the project. In hindsight, we should have been much more aggressive. But we didn't want to come off as jerks, and I had the distinct feeling the men were rolling their eyes and cursing me in Polish every time I asked them a question. When Mark brought the quote and contract for us to review, he wrote in a few alterations we discussed. That is the contract we signed. Unfortunately, we realized much too late that Mark did not make himself a copy of the altered contract. Or, if he did, he did not give that to the men doing the work. And due to the lack of communication mentioned above, we didn't catch the error until it was too late for several of the changes. We were offered no refund or credit on these errors either - just an "Oops, guys, I'm sorry." To be fair, we should have fought harder for this. I really regret that we didn't. But I was a woman home alone; these men were coming into my home on a daily basis and using sharp and heavy machinery. I didn't want to **** them off. Another major issue was the time. Mark said they'd get the project done in one week. We thought that was ambitious but he seemed confident; this estimate was the major reason we chose Mark over the other quotes. Even if it took two weeks, we would've been satisfied. But the project took well over a month. I forget exactly how long but it was WAY off the estimate, and entirely too long to be without the use of our only main-floor bathroom. Here is the list of other errors we caught during the process or have had to fix in the 18 months since it was completed: They did NOT follow lead-safe procedures, despite Mark's promises they would at the start. There was also no advance warning about the terrible fumes from the tub refinishing; they insisted it was safe to remain in the house though research done after the fact suggests it was not safe. The house smelled like an autobody repair shop for DAYS. We have young children and pets. This is inexcusable. Our bathroom had poor ventilation before the renovation; in fact, that was one of our main reasons for starting the project. Unfortunately, we now have a MAJOR problem with ventilation. The paint and plaster are flaking off the ceiling. We have had contractors out to assess the damage and they pointed out that several of the modifications we made to the bathroom contributed to the problem, and they would've suggested alternatives, because they understand how showers work. If Mark and co. knew we were making mistakes, they should've said something. And if they didn't, it shows they don't have the necessary skills for the job. They attempted to put drywall in the tub surround. They tried to convince me it was OK. We insisted they take it out and put in sheet rock. The toilet wasn't installed correctly. We had a trusted plumber come to fix it; he shook his head and said it was a terrible job. The electrical wasn't done properly and the lights frequently short out. The trim on our shower faucet wasn't installed correctly and the water wouldn't get hot until I fixed it. They removed the doors from our brand new vanity to install it, and reattached them incorrectly. They still don't shut right. They installed a new window and didn't caulk around it. They did not caulk between the countertop and the backsplash. Mildew now has a feast day in that seam. I will close on a positive note and say that the tile work is really great. It's the reason I didn't give them an F and the only part of the room we're actually happy with. If you only needed tile laid, I would say go ahead and use them, knowing their limits. For anything else I'd say buyer beware.

I reached out our for an estimate and they responded within 10 minutes. So far so good. I'm looking forward to it.

They were very good. The owner was very responsive and provided an expert tile installer. Although he didn't speak English, the owner was able to translate any details needed.

We were very pleased with the results of this work. The work was done a few months ago and I initially decided to wait a few weeks before submitting a review to see if any issues arose. That the few weeks turned into a few months was due solely to my procrastination and not to any major problems. A couple of minor matters came up early on and these were handled by Mark or one of his guys almost instantly and without drama. The job included a complete remodel of everything except the two vanities, though one vanity top was replaced with granite. We were responsible for purchasing the minor fixtures (including faucets, shower heads, towel bars, new cabinet pulls and knobs) as well as the new ceramic tile for the floors, shower stall floor, and tub and shower stall walls. Mark accompanied us to purchase these fixtures as well as those included in the contract price (e.g., tub, medicine cabinets, toilets, light fixtures, exhaust fans, etc). We liked that we could have some input into selection of some of the items he supplied rather than just having to accept "standard" items. He made no attempt to steer us to the cheapest options for the items he included in the contract. He gave us specs for purchase of the tiles and suggested three suppliers in our area. He offered to accompany us for these purchases also, but we felt we had this in hand by ourselves. He was able to start the work a couple of weeks after we agreed to the proposal and put down the deposit. Once started, his guys worked without interruption other than taking Sundays off. They kept the work area as clean as one could reasonably expect given the type of work involved and they always cleaned up at the end of the day. Since we did not previously have exhaust fans, the work included running duct work to the outside plus some additional electrical work rather than a simple replacement in kind. Several recessed lighting fixtures (included in the contract price) were installed and made a big difference both in utility an appearance. Finally, all walls, ceilings, and the wooden vanity surfaces were painted (This involved some wallpaper removal.). Removal of all debris was covered in the contract. I would like to highlight the work on the shower stall which is in the smaller bathroom that lacks a tub. Previously, the stall was dark and almost claustrophobic. He was able to remove part of a non load bearing wall and a soffit over the existing shower door. These sections as well as the door were replaced with thick tempered glass. This had a dramatic effect and seemed to open up the entire room as well as the stall itself. As to cost, we had gotten three estimates. All differed somewhat with respect to what was included. One was much higher than the other two and didn't seem to offer anything to justify the higher cost. Because of the differences in what was included, we cannot be sure which of the other two would be higher or lower. Our best guess was that Modern View would turn out to be slightly higher than the other, but not enough to matter very much or influence our choice. We went with Mark because he seemed more in sync with what we we after, his Angie's list reviews were strong, and we believed we could work well with him, a belief that was confirmed by our subsequent experience. As I said earlier, we were very pleased with the work. Dated early 1970s bathrooms were turned into clean modern looking rooms.

Mark can easily be an A contractor, when he has the excellent tile man working on the job, and he is with him. Unfortunately, Mark had an inferior tile man do my job, and I told him very clearly do not throw anything down the kitchen sink, and do not use the kitchen sink. I arrived to find the tile in one bathroom had a hole cut too large, and filled with grout, a tile chipped, and my kitchen sink full of grout. I called Mark immediately as this was not good. Mark told me that the chip was in the tile before, and his tile man was practically crying that he did not use the sink. This lack of professionalism is an D. Once Mark saw my sink, and the tile job, he realized that yes, his tile guy did everything I had told him. Mark then did the right thing, and replaced the tile in the one bathroom, and did a perfect job. Too bad he wasn't there to supervise the first time, or have the excellent tile man. Yes, I would use him again, he is higher than some people, but he is capable of good work, if he is on the job. I will try and add pic of what his first tile man did.

Mark came out to our home in late 2014 for a bathroom project. We wanted a total tear out and after the project was done, we were very impressed. A few months later we decided to have him remodel our laundry room and new drywall and shelves and some electric work in a bedroom. During the second project, the guys that came to do the drywall left a pretty big mess downstairs. I wasn't happy about it and was in the process of taking pictures of the mess when my door bell rang. It was Mark himself stopping over to have a look at how the project was coming along. I brought him downstairs and without even mentioning anything to him he saw the mess they had left and grabbed a mob and bucket and cleaned everything himself and apologized. Any project of that type is gonna make a mess but I was very impressed at how Mark handled the situation and kept the impact of the construction to the rest of the house to a minimum. All 3 rooms look great and Mark and his team did a great job. I would highly recommend them and will have them back in the future for the next project.

Everything went as I expected. Sebastian was very professional when he arrived at my home. He took measurements and made suggestions that I liked. The proposal was accepted and work began a few weeks later when my schedule was clear to be home for the remodel. The workers were prompt and covered the furniture to protect it. The remodel took 10 days to complete, but I was thrilled with how everything turned out. Sebastian and I communicated throughout the remodel and he made me feel at ease. I would recommend Modern View Kitchen and Bath Remodeling because the work was meticulously performed with skill and expertise. i will call them again to complete other improvements to my home in the near future.

Mark is tremendously professional and has a good team of tradesmen. I was exceptionally impressed by his carpenter that did all his wood work (they had to rebuild several trim pieces in my vintage Craftsman bungalow) and the tile/drywall team (there were a few gentlemen and they were quite good). My dilemma came with the foreman, who did not seem to know the "big plan" when it came to the renovation who was also quite willing to quickly do a job versus perform it of the highest quality. Although they willingly re-did every concern I had (no major code violations, but simply attention to detail), it was stressful having to be the foreman for the project as the assigned individual allowed less than quality work to occur.

Mark was extremely professional and detail oriented. He understood our taste and was able to make recommendations that suited our functional and aesthetic needs. We love our new kitchen!

They did an excellent job, it's a high-quality look and had a major impact on updating our older home.
