Great experience. From speaking to the owner, to the other employees, everyone was very knowledgeable and helpful.
Description of Work: After a water leak and damage in our garage we needed to re-insulate. Our job was not easy, it included insulating around plumbing and floor radiant heat lines. We are already seeing increased temperatures on cold days as a benefit to the new insulation.

The experience from top to bottom was excellent. The front office was responsive in taking our inquiry. They sent out a representative for a quote the following day and I had a proposal 2 days later. A week to two after that proposal was received, the work was scheduled and completed on time. We couldn't be happier with the product or the installation. There was a miscommunication between my husband and the crew in the morning, but much to their credit, the crew on the job site took care of the issue even though it was a hassle for them. That won us over big time. We would recommend Richard and his company to friends and family without a doubt.
Description of Work: We had an entire basement that was sprayed with closed-cell foam insulation on all exterior walls. It helps insulate as well as provide a vapor barrier.

We had worked with Richard Speiss at Innovative Insulation before on our second floor were he sprayed in open cell insulation into open walls (drywall had been removed). We were happy with this job however when we had him work on the first floor were the walls were closed (plaster/drywall still up) we were in for a rude suprise. The process itself went well -- he showed up on time and the work was done in a timely fashion. They drilled many holes into the plaster and supposed was supposed to fill the exterior walls with closed cell insulation and cork up the holes. Everything seemed right -- however one week after the job was done one of the walls had a large crack in the plaster. We decided to take down the wall and replace it with drywall. What a rude suprise awatied us. They had never filled the walls with insulation -- in fact we were not given any protection (please see attached photo). When we called back the owner -- he did come out and respray the walls with open cell after we removed the plaster on the other walls. He blamed the employee -- who blew in the insulation stating that he had fired him since. However, the owner had been on site the enitre time the insulation had been installed the first time and he should have known by the cansiters that less than 10% of the insulation that should have gone in had gone in. My advice to anyone who has used this (or any closed cell insulation company) is after the job is finished to remove a patch of drywall and see if the job has been done right -- this was a real eye-opener and it left us wondering how many people have paid good money for insulation they never got!
Description of Work: To foam in insulation in a few open walls and several closed (already drywalled) walls by drilling holes and spraying in the insulation.

Response from INNOVATIVE INSULATION SOLUTIONS LTD
It is unfortunate that the member posted this review three years later, even after all issues were resolved to her satisfaction. My company’s philosophy is to make the customer happy and to do the best job possible. A company is only as good as its employees. The applicator that did the member’s job was lying directly to me when I questioned him if the walls were being filled. He was fired immediately once this issue came to light. I immediately pulled all crews off of other jobs to respond to the issue at [Member's name removed]'s house. We used the more expensive closed cell spray foam to fix the issue. The statement that she makes that I “should have known” that by the amount of material usage. Not true – the member’s job was taking so little open cell foam a deviation in material usage would be expected. To imply I permitted the work to be done this way is insulting to my character and integrity. To ensure this situation would not happen ever again, I purchased an infrared imaging camera to monitor the injecting of walls with open cell foam insulation. Since the open cell spray foam insulation reaches a temperature of about 150F, any voids in the wall will show on the infrared image as a cold spot. The use of the infrared imaging camera on wall injection jobs is standard procedure. I have worked very hard at assembling the group of honest and hard working employees that I have. A quality job and customer satisfaction are our number one priorities. If you take the time to read the other reports you can see this is an isolated occurrence. I can provide a list of references – builders or homeowners. We have been in business for almost 10 years, and have a Better Business Bureau rating of A+, with zero complaints.

It was great. Richard was on time and quick with the original estimate, which was made several months before we had the work performed. We had several estimates, and ended up going with Innovative Insulation in part because they were the only ones (of 4 or 5) who let us know about the rebate available from the gas company. We were happy with the company's flexibility with regard to scheduling the work, with the workers' punctuality, skill, and (remarkable) cleanliness. Then, when the job was completed, Richard was a great help in filling out the rebate forms. And we definitely saw a difference in our utility bills this winter, so it seems that the product is great, too!
Description of Work: Richard's team came out on two occasions to insulate our attic (~800sf), upper basement walls, the exposed subfloor of a second-story extension, and the crawl space under a sunroom.

When Richard came to my home, he was extremely kind and very professional. He inspected my unit by disassembling my recessed lighting and taking pictures. He had old pictures of my neighbors to compare against and we realized that I don't have a problem. I was amazed at how nice and willing he was to help. He even wiped up a fingerprint near the recessed lighting. The thing that impressed me most was that I told him that I probably don't have a problem and he still came to inspect the unit. Since I am hoping to move in the coming year, I did offer to pay a low fee to have a copy of the pictures and his professional assessment. When he was done inspecting, my baby had woken up giving me no free hands. Richard cleaned up on his own and carried the ladder downstairs (even though I told him to not worry). I can't first hand comment on his work, but I do know that my neighbors liked him.
Description of Work: Several years ago, my next door neighbor had a substantially large problem with condensation in their roof. Richard added insulation to their unit as well as 3 other units in my complex. I have not experienced this same problem but was worried I had a problem. I called this company and told them the situation (which was 4 years later) and Richard vividly remembered the problem and the neighbors. He agreed to inspect my unit.

Richard was very knowledgeable but didn't speak in terms over your head. He explained everything in as much detail as I asked for and visited the site to keep an eye on his crew occasionally. The crew, 2 men, set up and protected the house from damage and overspray with many rolls of plastic - they were very thorough and conscientious and polite. They were fast and they made a very big mess! You do NOT want to be anywhere near there when they are working both because of the mess and because the fumes are very hazardous they tell me. I went in every day after they were done and was shocked at the mess (which was all contained in the plastic but was still shocking). I have a tough site; three stories and construction stairs and mud everywhere. The crew was young but well trained and professional. They never complained. They were never challenged beyond their abilities. They never showed stress. They were ALWAYS polite. The main office was ALWAYS there for me when I called. The management worked with my title company (pain the a** title company) and did not trouble me with any problems they were having with them (which if they didn t have trouble they would have been the first). Accidents will happen and it happened on my site. The tell is how it was handled. I have radiant floor tubings and a knife was dropped landing right on the tube causing a leak. There is no water in the tubes and they could have hidden it but they immediately marked it and told me as soon as it was safe to show me into the room. The crew had already informed their office. They offered to pay for the damage. They were so good to us we refused payment for the accident and were exceedingly grateful they were so upfront and honest not leaving that surprise for us to find long after they were gone. They cleaned up the site after they were done and you could not point to anything that was left undone. I have added pictures below to show you how well they clean up after themselves. The end result is a 6500 square foot, three story home that can be heated, in this winter, to 60 degrees with just the pilot lights from 2 portable LP heaters.
Description of Work: Estimate needs and money from my blueprints. Visit in person the new construction home shell to make recommendations, discuss options and firm up estimate numbers. Sent a crew to do spray insulation. Prepare site. Protect site. Clean up after themselves.

My experience with this contractor was excellent from start to finish. Richard, the owner, was very helpful over the phone as I was deciding how to insulate our attic. Mike came out to scope out the job and measure, and he was very knowledgeable about the process (he's a former installer himself). Scheduling installation was easy, they are flexible and understand how construction schedules are a moving target. The actual installers, Oscar and another guy who's name escapes me, were surprisingly cheerful during the day-long spraying ordeal in our very stuffy attic. They did a great job prepping the attic before spraying and cleaning up afterwords. Everyone I dealt with at this company was professional and friendly. From a performance standpoint, I can already notice a dramatic improvement in the energy efficiency of our house, large daily temperature swings have moderated significantly and our A/C has run much less than normal. I recommend the closed-cell foam product if you're looking for the best insulating solution for an older home with an unfinished attic. And, I highly recommend this contractor.
Description of Work: Sprayed closed-cell foam throughout our attic rafters.

Despite the estimator's claims of experience, I got the uneasy feeling that he didn't know what he was talking about. The owner sent me an estimate, and their solution would have been a very large and costly project for me that may not have even worked anyway.

Before I received the quote Richard called me to talk about open cell vs. closed cell insulation. He said that in my situation he would only spray closed cell. My understanding is that closed cell may not allow water to seep through in the event of roof failure and that the roof could be rotting over my head with out me knowing. Without addressing this concern Richard emailed me two articles where open cell insulation adsorbed too much water and had to be removed. Neither article addressed my situation. Both articles suggested a painted vapor barrier be sprayed over open cell spray foam. When the quote came I was shocked to see the price was double my best price for open cell. When I called to see if the price included a vapor barrier I was informed that Innovative is "not set up" to do the vapor barrier and he suggested I do it myself or hire a painter. Innovative's estimate also contained an estimate for closed cell spray foam. The cost for closed cell was $7600.
Description of Work: I received an estimate to have spray foam insulation sprayed in my attic. I called to schedule an appointment and Innovative sent someone out in a timely manor to measure for the quote. Richard was on vacation at the time and he is the only one that can quote out jobs so I had to wait.

AS WITH ALL CUSTOMERS WHO CALL, I SPENT TIME TRYING TO PROVIDE INFORMATION TO THE HOMEOWNER SO SHE HAD ALL THE NECESSARY INFORMATION TO MAKE THE BEST DECISION. OPEN CELL SPRAY FOAM IS INFERIOR, IN TERMS OF R-VALUE, VAPOR TRANSMISSION, AND STRUCTURAL STRENGTH. CLOSED CELL SPRAY FOAM IS THE ONLY INSULATION PRODUCT THAT PROVIDE TOTAL CLIMATE ISOLATION SEPARATING INSIDE FROM OUTSIDE. IN OUR CLIMATE, OPEN CELL FOAM NEEDS TO HAVE A VAPOR BARRIER APPLIED OVER THE FOAM. I HAVE NOT INVESTED IN THE EQUIPMENT TO DO THIS VAPOR BARRIER APPLICATION, SINCE I WOULD RECOMMEND CLOSED CELL FOAM IN THIS TYPE OF INSTALLATION, AND THE VAPOR BARRIER IS NOT NEEDED WITH CLOSED CELL FOAM. THE NOTION THAT A HOMEOWNER WILL NOT KNOW IF THEY HAVE A ROOF LEAK IF THE ROOF DECK IS SPRAYED IN WITH CLOSED CELL FOAM DOES NOT MAKE MUCH SENSE TO ME. I ASK - WHAT IS BETTER? - ALLOWING WATER INSIDE OR KEEPING IT OUT? THE LATTER IS THE BEST. ROOFS ARE NOT INDEFINITE THEY NEED TO BE INSPECTED EVERY SO OFTEN TO DETECT A ROOF FAILURE. IN REGARDS TO PRICE, YOU SIMPLY GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. ALL OF MY APPLICATORS ARE HIGHLY TRAINED, SKILLED, AND VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THE PRODUCTS WE USE. I THINK THE MEMBER’S MIND WAS SET ON USING OPEN CELL FOAM. WE ARE COMMITTED TO QUALITY SERVICE: SOMETIMES THIS REQUIRES EDUCATING THE CONSUMER, WHICH I DO FEEL OBLIGATED TO DO. EVEN AFTER SHARING THIS KNOWLEDGE, THE HOMEOWNER CHOSE OPEN CELL.

RICHARD PERSONALLY HANDLED THE ESTIMATE AND ACCOMPANIED HIS WORKERS TO THE HOME. HE EXPLAINED HOW THE INSULATION DOES NOT SEAL THE WALL BUT IT DOES PREVENT ADDED PROTECTION FROM POSSIBLE SEEPAGE DOWN THE BASEMENT FOUNDATION WALLS.
