+ -1 moreI told my story above and really hope that I conveyed the message that Chicago Flooring Source is a good group to have work in your behalf. Can't go wrong with hiring them.
Description of Work: have an approximately 660 sf basement floor with old tile I thought might be asbestos so did not want to go through abatement. I removed a few bad tiles that were curled up at the edges and replaced them myself with some new looking ones that had been in a box for years. The effect was patchy and unacceptable. I scouted around at our local and not so local flooring stores to get updated on what was available out there. I barely was noticed at a couple, though if I asked a question or two I did get answers. I found Chicago Flooring in the yellow pages and called and spoke with Al who set me up with an appointment with "Dave", the owner, to come and see the floor, take measurements and answer questions. I wanted one fourth inch travertine in 16"X16" tiles, which would require modification of the bottoms of the doors to the room including one that is accordian pleated. I said I was also interested in vinyl tile. He gave me his shop's location and address. I received proposals for the work within a week and went with the lovely choice of vinyl tile at half the price of the initial desire of travertine. No door adjustments were needed. Finally i went to Chicago Flooring Source which I passed a couple of times because it is smaller and did not have big signage. Once in I was there I was greeted and helped by Paul who assisted me from beginning to end. I took samples home, kept them a few days and returned them for other batches, plus see the ones in the shop. Before any work could begin the sample tile which came from the old floor and that I gave Dave needed to be tested for asbestos. That took almost two weeks, but it was worth it because it proved to not be asbestos. Should note that if it had been asbestos the job would have been for the government asbestos removal experts, then Chicago Flooring Source could and would do the rest. As it was, work began and ended within the next week., I'd chosen my 16"X16" vinyl tile and CFS had ordered it. I paid one half to begin the process and paid "Ted" the workman the other half when work was completed. The job was to take three days with one man. One man worked long and hard one day to remove the old tile. Ted and one other man took one more day to spread the base and tile. I am very happy. The old paneling was greatly enhanced by my choice of new flooring. Thanks to the entire team the final outcome is beautiful.I

+ 0 moreI did not end up doing the work. I went another direction and got a quote from someone else. But they seemed good. They were very helpful. They were courteous. They were willing to help us with whatever they needed. I went into the store and they were helpful and took time with us. We did schedule an appointment for them to come out to the house. But we did decide to go with someone else. The estimate was higher than the price we ended up paying. We were on a very tight budget. That was the main reason we went with another company.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from them regarding hardwood and laminate.

+ 0 moreThey did a nice job. I don't remember how much they charged me, but their price was reasonable. They were dependable. They were reasonably priced. They did a good job and cleaned up after themselves. They were courteous and they were on time. I would use them again in the future.

+ -1 moreWhile they were working everything seemed to be okay. Later on, we weren't happy with the results, but our warranty period had expired by that time and we didn't follow up.
Description of Work: Chicago Flooring Source installed wood flooring in our family room and refinished hardwood flooring in our dining room and front room.

+ -1 moreI went to the store and talked with Paul, the salesman. He gave a good explanation of the pros and cons of various types of flooring, and I felt confident about taking his advice. He let me bring home about 20 different samples over a period of several weeks until I made up my mind what I wanted. Then Dave, the owner, came out to measure and explained how the floor would be installed. He drew a very detailed diagram for the installer, complete with instructions. A day or two later, Paul called with a quote, and I went in and paid half of the price, with the assurance that I would not have to pay the remainder until I was totally satisfied with the work. The work was done a month later, as soon as they had time in their schedule. They pre-stained the replacement toe kick to perfectly match my cabinets. The installer was very meticulous, custom cutting each piece as it was needed. Installation was done sooner than expected, even though the assistant was ill and missed a day. They cleaned up after themselves and left the place almost spotless. They left all their equipment in my garage during the 2 1/4 days of the project, and also left their trailer in my driveway (with my permission, so they didn't have to hook it up to take it away every night). The installer gave me care instructions for the flooring and left the remaining product, just in case repairs are needed someday. I was very pleased with the experience and definitely plan to hire them again when I'm ready to replace the carpeting and the flooring in the master bath.
Description of Work: Provided and installed laminate flooring in the kitchen, powder room, and pantry as well as the front entryway, in January 2008. Installation was done over the existing vinyl flooring, and included new toe kick under the cabinets, removing and replacing the toilet, and cutting the bottoms of the doors to fit over the new floor.

+ -1 moreThe Chicago Flooring staff were extremely friendly. They were prompt, punctual, and professional. They were really good at working with my schedule. For me, it was very important that they did the job at the specified times, as not to conflict or impose on my time or schedule.
Description of Work: Chicago Flooring Source removed my old flooring and prepped the kitchen, hallway and foyer for the installation of a new porcelain tile floor. They did all the work themselves. The job included an area of approximately 325 square feet and it took approximately three and one half days.

Description of Work: I had them remove old flooring from a small 6 x 6 foot entryway area and install new laminate. In addition they installed new baseboard and shoe where the new floor met the wall.

+ -1 moreTHE OWNER OF THE COMPANY WAS VERY GOOD TO DEAL WITH AND MORE THAN ACCOMMODATED OUR SCHEDULE. THIS PART OF THE EXPERIENCE WAS OUTSTANDING. THE PROBLEMS: THE WORKERS SAWED WOOD INSIDE WITHOUT ANY WARNING TO US, CAUSING A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF DUST TO BE SPREAD AROUND OUR HOUSE. WHEN WE COMPLAINED, THEY DID COME BACK AND VACUUM. ONE STEP WAS NOT PUT IN CORRECTLY. THEY DID RETURN TO DO IT RIGHT. WE DID HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE COLOR OF THE STAIN--IT WAS MUCH DARKER THAN WHAT WE PICKED OUT, EITHER BECAUSE THEY USED THE WRONG STAIN OR BECAUSE THEY DID NOT SHOW US WHAT THE STAINS WOULD LOOK LIKE WITH 2 COATS DRIED. WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS BUT WOULD PROBABLY USE THE COMPANY AGAIN WITH MUCH MORE OVERSIGHT.
Description of Work: CHICAGO FLOORING RIPPED UP CARPET ON ONE SET OF STAIRS & A LANDING. THEY THEN INSTALLED HARD WOOD FLOORS AND STAINED THEM.

+ -1 moreTHEY DID A REAL NICE JOB. I HAD A HALLWAY, BATHROOM AND LAUNDRY ROOM FLOOR REPLACED. THIS INCLUDED CUTTING 8 DOOR ENTRANCES. ALL WERE DONE VERY NICE. ADDITIONALLY, THE SALES TEAM WORKED WITH ME TO INSTALL LOWER GRADE FLOOR IN LAUNDRY ROOM TO STAY WITHIN MY BUDGET WITHOUT IMPACTING OVERALL LOOK. THEY DID LEAVE SOME SCRAPS IN THE GARAGE THAT I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED TO BE HAULED AWAY.
