DFC Roofing

We give Dyna-Flow Corp. and Mike McKenna an F. Mike was contracted by our General Contractor to correct siding installation defects on our home. Mike did not thoroughly inspect our siding. Instead, he quoted us on fixing the issues our GC told him about. Mike subcontracted another person to do the work. As the work was being corrected on our house, the subcontractor found various other issues with our siding installation (potential water issues). These issues should have been found if Mike had done a thorough inspection. After the contracted work for Dyna-Flow was complete, we did not want to do further work with Mike McKenna as he did such a poor job inspecting our siding. Prior to paying him in full, we requested a detailed invoice and he refused to provide one. We were left with siding installation issues to be corrected. When Mike learned from our GC that we did not want to work with his company, he sent a scathing email, calling me a “Shylock,” a Jewish slur. We would not recommend Mike McKenna or Dyna-Flow Corporation.

Overall an excellent experience. They are definitely not the cheapest, (probably the highest priced) but I felt I got what I paid for. I did not have to check their work, I knew it would be done right. Tom was professional, came out quickly and answered all my questions. Even in the spring rush with rain delays, they were able to fit us in in two weeks. They recommended a good gutter company also and we are happy with them too!

I might have chosen a different color, but that's my bad. They really did a nice job. Mike was very helpful accomodating my requests.

The work was beyond our expectations. Tomasz Sobarnia, the project manager, was outstanding. He explained everything in detail before getting started and came daily for inspections during the project to make sure all was going well and according to our wishes. When we asked for crown molding on the front windows and over the garage door, they made it even more spectacular than we were expecting. We found all the workers to be outstanding craftsmen, extremely professional, and perfectionists. We have, also, been impressed with the quality of the material that they used on the roof, gutters, and siding. We love the look and durability of the James Hardie fiber cement materials for the siding and trim.

I did a lot of research looking for companies and reading reviews. I felt pleased with my decision to use DFC. They were willing to come out and look at my house and give me an estimate on a new roof even before the insurance company approved a new roof. They were on time and friendly before the roof was installed. They estimated the roof would take 1 day. The day they arrived to put the roof on there was only a 3 man team. 1 member of the team was only there part of the day so a lot of the time there were only 2 people working on my roof. They worked late the first day until about 7:30pm. They only got about half of my roof done. They returned the following day again with the same crew and we had only 2 guys working on our roof most of the day. There were a few bad pieces of wood that they replaced however when they threw the old wood off the roof they left gouges in my lawn. The second day the 3rd man who was more of the project leader of the 3 kept leaving and he was supposed to bring lunch for the other 2 workers but seemed to have forgotten them. We felt bad that the 2 guys working had nothing to eat or drink all day and offered them lunch (Pizza) and drinks which they gratefully accepted. Their leader did come with lunch and drinks but not until 4pm. Long after we had fed them. Late on the night of the second day the roof was not complete and the 2 workers were waiting around. I asked them what was going on and they said that they ran out of material and that their project leader was going to Menards to get some more shingles. This seemed odd to me as the brand of shingles they used were commercial and not sold at Menards. I told my husband to google Menards, Home Depot, Lowes etc for our shingles and we found none of them sold our shingles. I immediately called the sales man for the company and asked what was going on. He said the stores didnt have my color shingle in stock. I questioned him that they didnt even sell my brand so how was that possible and he said they were similar products. I told him I only wanted the same brand and color as everything else and he agreed and said they would order it and complete the roof the following day. He blamed the insurance company for measuring the roof wrong however he came out and measured the roof before the insurance company even did it themselves so that was a lie. The next day they sent 1 person to finish my roof who arrived 1.5 hours after schedule. Overall the roof seems to have been installed okay and so far is holding up. They say that they guarantee their work and so far I have not need anything further from the company. The price and workmanship seem okay but the professionalism and organization of our install was far from good. I was most outraged by them trying to put a different brand shingle on our roof to try and finish the job on day 2.

They were a no show. Apparently they do not need business. I didn't even receive a call to cancel or reschedule. So glad I took time off work for this.

Tom Sobarnia was our estimator and contact person for the project. He provided his estimate via e-mail within hours of measuring our roof and kept in touch from the time we selected our shingle color through completion of the project. We were surprised that they were able to schedule the installation within 10 days of the contract signing. On installation day, the 3 man crew arrived shortly after 7AM and began the tear-off portion of the project. Weather had turned cold and windy the week of the work and temps. were in the low 30's at the start of the day. This made removal of the old roof tedious and slow. The crew worked through the day and finished the roofing after 8:30PM. They, then, returned later that evening to retrieve the trailer filled with the old roof debris. The siding crew was busy, so Tom returned the next day to recover the boxouts on the eaves himself. The whole operation went flawlessly, and we are very pleased with the timely responses we received from Tom and with the level of craftsmanship shown by the crew.

I was pleased to have selected DFC and will do so again should the need arise. They presented several solutions along with clear proposals. All the DFC employees that I spoke with and who worked on the property were courteous, patient, and friendly. Despite unavoidable delays caused by spring rains, their work was completed in a timely, professional manner, and they did not leave a scrap of debris. I contacted DFC in part on the basis of the reviews I read on Angie's List and am happy to add another recommendation.

I had purchased a big deal for the service and it turned out good. I used them again. They were here when they said they were going to be here, and they were very accurate about what they said they were charging me.

They were there when they said they were going to be there. They charged me what they said they were going to.I asked them another question while they were there, and they did measuring and stuff as well. I was happy withe price, they were professional, they were on time, and they got back to me right away.

All went as expected. Mike was great and did everything promised and then some. Highly recommend Mike and DFC for roofing, siding and windows! A+

The roof is about 10 years old and I try to be diligent on keep the shingles in good condition (from a novice?s ability). After a minor roof leak in this past winter due to ice dam, I decided to hire a professional to look over our roof before the next winter come. DFC?s inspection covered the attic and so I bought the coupon and have Mike, the owner, to come over the check our roof and attic. Mike kept a good communication on our appointment and when he is on his way. He listened to my concern and had a good understanding on my level of capability on home repair thus he is able to talk to me the way I can understand. He explained about why ice dam formed (and how to minimized it) and the reason for my roof leak. Mike also gave me a roofing 101 on what made a good roofing job. Afterward, he went up to the roof and inspected the condition of the roof shingles. He pointed out the minor issue/condition of the shingles and also discovered an area where my roof flashing had failed (it explained why the rain water was running down behind the gutter). Since Mike was up there and I got some caulk and aluminum flashing saved from an earlier project, he went ahead and did a quick repair on the flashing. After the roof inspection, Mike went into the attic and checked the condition of attic. He pointed out that the attic can use more insulation than the current R38 I got (never hurt to get more insulation) and additional improvement can be made when I am ready to redo my roof. At the end of the inspection, Mike wrote what he found and a check list on my next roofing job. The whole process took a good solid hour. I am very pleased with the inspection and Mike?s professionalism, not just because he fixed a minor leak on roof (that is beyond the scope of job), but he also took time to listen to my concern, educated me, and show me where the problems are with the roof (something that I can fix myself before the winter). I think it is an inspection money well spent and I will definitely call upon Mike on my future roofing need. Just as a foot note, the flashing repair Mike did works very well. The rain water now going to down to the gutter as it should be instead of leak behind the gutter.

What a fantastic experience. The crew arrived exactly on time, covered all of our flowers and bushes. They were very careful in taking the old roof off and made sure to pick up every nail and piece of roofing that did not land in the hopper. Mike came out and made sure that everything was being done correctly, and was here at various times throughout the process. The crew put all of the necessary touches on the roof and did everything the estimate said they would do. It took them one day to do the complete job and it was done in a professional way. I would recommend them to anyone needing a roof.

Mike from DFC was extremely knowledgeable, patient and most importantly responded quickly. We needed a roofer for a house we are buying and were on a tight time frame. Do not waste your time looking at countless roofers, stick with this one!

I had severe ice dam issues this winter which lead to leaking in my house, among several other problems. I originally contacted Mike McKenna about his ice dam removal services...but I ended up getting a lot more help from Mike than simply removing ice. I can't speak highly enough about Mike. He is an extremely professional, knowledgable and honest person. His decades of experience shines through within minutes of speaking with him - his knowledge base is far beyond roofing and exteriors - he understands how the entire house operates as a whole and is more than eager to share his knowledge. I ended up having a pretty bad case of mold in my attic and basement due to issues in my attic. It was a very stressful and scary situation for my family, especially because the cause and solution to fix all the problems were so ambiguous. I had several other companies come out inspect my house and provide me estimates...but I simply couldn't trust them because I didn't feel that they had my best interest at heart and was simply trying to get my business. However, this all changed when I reached out to Mike. He took time out of his Saturday afternoon to drive over an hour (I am out of his service area) to come to my house to give me a full inspection to help me understand what problems I had with my attic/roof, why I had mold, and what steps needed to be taken to remediate all these issues. More importantly, he listened to my concerns and was able to clearly and sincerely answer all my questions, help me understand the facts and provide a step by step plan to resolve the issues with my house. I was disappointed to learn that the steps that I needed to take did not require Mike's services, as I would have used him to fix everything if I could have. Mike is truly dedicated to providing the best possible service to his customers and to sharing his wealth of knowledge to help people. I would recommend Mike and DFC Roofing services in a heart beat.

Very good experience with this vendor. Good choice of products. Did not insist on extra services, as done by other vendors we got estimates from. Price was good. Work was well done by a competent team. Mike McKenna was the primary contact.

Mike was courteous, professional, and informative. He took great care inside my home and out. He quickly diagnosed the problem and was able to temporarily fix our 2 problem spots and offered to meet my insurance adjuster to better explain the issue. I was really impressed with his professionalism and I will be calling him back for our total roof replacement soon.

Mike's team arrived at 6:40 and started to work. These 5 guys worked hard all day long tearing off the old roof and putting the new one on and they finished the job in one day! I was expecting 2 days, and I was astonished. They also cleared all of the debris out of my yard and driveway. I literally found one of them crawling under the shrubbery to make sure everything was cleaned up! I was SO very impressed with these guys. Mike installed the heating wires over my garage himself to make sure I wouldn't have any more problems with ice dams. I continue to remain DFC's biggest fan. They have done nothing but exemplary work for me and I will hire them every time I need windows or siding replaced (I think the roof is done for a while!) They are fair in their pricing, honest, and they do better work than you expect. Highly, highly recommended.

If there was a higher grade than A, I would give it to Mike. I can't begin to tell you how happy I am with Mike and his company. My roof was a mess with ice greater than 6" thick. Mike came out and carefully chipped it away with a hammer and chisel to keep from damaging my already damaged roof, then carefully shoveled away every last piece of ice so that my husband and I wouldn't fall when we went out of the house. I was so grateful for his help and so impressed with his truthfulness and respect that I have hired him to replace my roof this spring! Mike has found a life-long customer in me. There aren't a lot of people around who still do business the old fashioned way - quality, ethics, and promises kept. I love this company. Highly, highly recommended!

He did a great job. Did exactly what was needed and expected for a very fair price. On time. I am very pleased and satisfied.

Tom Sobarnia came out in July 2013 to give us an estimate. He went over everything with us and explained all the details and products the use ( IKO Shingles ) . He was not pushy and when we had questions he answered them. I felt very comfortable & trusted him. He was very proffesional & the the let no mess around the house which that was one of my big concerns since we have 2 dogs. It looks wonderful he helped us pick out the right colors for the roof & trim. We also received an estimate on the siding it was not in the budget right now he said that it did not needed to be replaced asap like the roof & the gutters and our wood trim was rottening away. When we are ready to replace the siding we will call DFC back. The owner Mike McKenna even came out to check on the job. Tom went beyond what we excepted he even put our new house #'s up! I want to Thank Tom & Mike & the there crew for a Wonderful job that they did. Our house looks awesome once we replace the siding it will look even better. Thank you again. Denise & Jim Ball

Replaced entire roof including plywood. He did everything as he said he would. I don't think you can find a better roofer. He also replaced the roof on my old house 18 years ago and 10 years ago put a roof on a addition. Mike and DFC have been around a long time and from first time to now its always been a great experience.

We asked DFC to perform an inspection of a house that we are purchasing in Naperville. DFC was the only company that would even think about coming out in the winter to inspect this out (all other companies that we looked at on Angie's list refused to come for an inspection until spring). Mike (owner) came out to inspect and he did a fantastic job. He was very thorough and gave honest opinions about the status of the roof and the siding (he said they were both actually fine for now). He has great attention to detail; we thought the rotted trim around the windows could be fixed, and he noticed that was not the case, and the windows need to be repaired. We are going to have them come replace the windows if and when we purchase this house. Highly recommend!

It was great. They came and did the work. They cleaned up well. They were very courteous. The roof looks great.

We had about a 6 x 10 patch of vinyl siding that was melted by a hot grill being too close. DFC was able to match it EXACTLY (which I think is rare). I think we were lucky because it is a very light gray color so there is not much fading but it is impossible to tell the difference between the old siding and the patch they put up. Their guys came in and had the job done in 45 minutes within a week of Mike coming out to match up the color and order the siding. I couldn't be happier.
