+ 0 moreScott was originally recommended to us because of his experience restoring historical homes in our community. A year or so before the latest 2012 job, Scott had completed a more extensive project on our Victorian home as he repaired the sagging and rotting corner of our front porch. At that time, he installed footings (which the porch didn't originally have) and built new stairs and restored the stair railings. He did a beautiful job! We knew that he was our man for any other repairs on our house. In June of 2012, we hired Scott to remove and replace one of the original rails and balusters on the deck of the same porch. The railing was easily over 100 years old and needed replacing. Scott always arrived when he said he would and he created and installed a beautiful custom made railing for our porch. I can't say enough about his expert carpentry and building skills! The balusters and railing perfectly match the other railings on the porch and we are so pleased with his work! His price was very reasonable and his estimate was very clear as to the materials and what the job would encompass. We will be calling him for the MANY projects a home built in 1893 will require!
Description of Work: NOTE: The cost above was for the second of two jobs. I can't remember the cost of the first job (but it was very reasonable). As I recall, the earlier of the two projects (2009 or 2010?) included removing original porch stairs and stair railings; digging and installing four footings (original porch didn't have footings); building new wooden stairs; replacing the porch apron in that area; and repairing, replacing, and strengthening the existing stair railings and balusters. He filled and caulked all nail holes and joints and primed all the surfaces. The latest project in 2012 consisted of removing an old porch deck railing and it's balusters (north end of porch), creating a new railing with new custom balusters (matching those on the porch) using the original top rail (which he repaired) and creating new custom bottom rail to match the others on the porch. He filled, caulked, and primed his work and had it ready for paint as we requested.

He arrived when he said he would for estimate, dismantling of the rotted railing, and installation of the beautiful new railing. The spindles match the remaining railings perfectly. A few years ago, Scott rebuilt the footings, stairs, and railings of this same porch. We love his work!
