Vance Remodeling and Restoration

Came out once for initial meeting and information needed for a bid. Said he would have to send out framers and concrete people in order to get estimate together. Never heard from him again.

Jim did an excellent job on my porch. Thanks so much for getting to it so quickly! I appreciate it and our little guys love it. I will let ya know if we need anything else. Thanks Again Tammie Robison

Great! Jim was organized. Had a helper when needed. Arrived early. Worked hard all day. Never left a mess. Planned his work efficiently. Gave me a price up front and never added to it. In addition to removing old carpet, pad, and underlayment ,and the laying of our new Mirage 3/4" hardwood, he moved some big furniture and relocated heat ducts to accommodate new registers. He disposed of all trash. About 260 square feet. Simple rectangular shape with fireplace hearth cutout. Jim made beautiful transitions on both ends of the room where the room meets a hall and the family room.

Jim was prompt, easy to work with, and very hard working. Though his resume does not show it, he is a skilled carpenter. He found creative solutions to the many challenges, while being considerate of our budget. His finish and detail work is excellent. Examples, installing along brick edge of fireplace, installing new floor registers, creating invisible transitions, disguising alterations to a kitchen cabinet. We greatly appreciated his sensitivity to our living conditions (we have dogs who are part of the family) during this disruptive project. We will be hiring Jim to do additional work as soon as our budget allows. Be aware, Jim can sometimes be difficult to contact prior to beginning work.

Project is done and we love it. Jim always got right back to us on everything and would cover everything he wanted to do. Did great work and would highly recommend. Had quite a few little things pop up and he handled them all.

Entire project was finished within a week. He works very hard, does work quickly and does not take any breaks. Vance is very meticulous and I have already hired him for another job & won't hesitate to hire him for more jobs. Our 3 season room looks gorgeous.

Jim is always prompt, professional, easy to work with and gets the job done right the first time . He is a hard worker and an honest man.

Jim's pricing was very competitive, he also provides more than what other contractors would have done for the same cost. He listened well to what my wife and I wanted, offered suggestions and insight that we were not aware of. Jim and his crew were courteous and did wonderful work. They clean up the work area every night after working. Jim kept me informed of progress, etc, the communication was great. He even tailored my plans a bit to accommodate my wife, in regards to location of make up mirror, shower height, and a storage nook for her bath products. The work was done well and we have a bathroom we have only dreamed about. Had we gone with a different contractor, this would not have been possible. The tile work was awesome, the new cabinets were great, plaster work was better than we anticipated. We highly recommend Jim for remodeling and reconstruction work. My wife loves the new bathroom, a big thanks to Jim and his crew.

Jim was very responsive and did an excellent job putting in our door and fan. We even had a small problem with our fan after he left and he came back immediately after we called him. Great customer service and excellent work done. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

He was not a licensed roofer, but he did roofing and did a very poor job. He was our initial person he hired to do the stuff. He came and we paid him the money, which was half down on it. He did some of it. The tornado was in November so it was kind of hard for him to do stuff in the wintertime. He did what he could do and then we had some other things that had to be done. He had to rebuild part of our roof because it had to come off. There was a lot of lumber that we had to pay him for. He was allotted a lot of money for the lumber to rebuild the end of the roof with all new lumber and stuff, but he did not do that. He just pieced together some lumber pieced together some other lumber ad and kept all the money that we gave him to purchase all the lumber. On the siding for the garage I picked out the siding I wanted and told him that was what I wanted. He told us he ordered it. He ordered it from Home Depot and then he said they could not get it so, then, without even talking to us he went ahead and ordered it from another company. I told him I liked the exact color and grain of the siding and that was really what I wanted but he had already bought the other siding. I told him to go ahead and put it on. So he put it on and then as he was leaving there was a whole pack of the siding left. He started putting it on his truck. I told he we bought that with the insurance money and he said it was mine and he took it. Then he had the screen doors on our patio doors downstairs that we gave to him to repair. We called him and told me him we needed it and he said he would see about that. He was supposed to come and fix our roof after he did it but he did not show up and he said he would come that one time but he called and canceled. He said he would call us back but never did. We have not heard from him since. Then after we had already paid him the 50-percent down he came back in the winter time and asked him for more money so we gave him more money so he has money from us that he owes us. He did work from us inside the house before the tornado hit and did a very good job remodeling our bathroom. It was almost $30,000. Some of the work is not done. He was supposed to do the soffits and gutters but after he did that on the siding I could not trust the man to finish with the siding. We called out to Home Depot and they cold not show anybody ever ordered that. He admitted he had never even tried to order it from Home Depot. He was very dishonest with us, but his quality of work was okay. He could have fixed it, but he chose not to. He was supposed to do some plastering work and painting inside and he had already gotten money for this. His pricing was okay. His punctuality was fine. He is a nice person.

Jim was flexible and able to work our project into a tight turnaround time. He was exceptionally thorough and included several facets of the project that other installers had either missed or failed to mention in their estimates. With the other estimates, these would have become unexpected costs to us. Jim's eye for detail and being "up-front" with us helped us to better understand all aspects of our project and budget appropriately. He finished ahead of schedule and was spot-on budget. Jim was also excellent about keeping in communication with us and even followed up after the project was complete to make sure we were satisfied. Our flooring looks terrific and we will absolutely use Vance Remodeling and Reconstruction again!

We contacted Jim and another contractor after reviewing comments on Angie's list. We decided to contract the work with Jim after doing a walk through with him. His comments and suggestions made us feel like we could trust him to do whatever was needed to update our 1960's home. We thought his quote was reasonable when we compared it to the other contractor. Jim started on our job right away and juggled his schedule to meet most of our needs. We didn't have the kitchen cabinets ordered when he started, but he did the demolition and electrical work so that the plastering could be scheduled. He even worked a Sat & Sun to be ready for them. We knew going in that he would be starting another lengthy job so there was a little delay once the cabinets did arrive but we anticipated that. He juggled work between the two jobs to our satisfaction. I wouldn't recommend this to everyone, but it worked for us because we wanted to do most of the painting ourselves. Jim also helped find us an electrician to replace the outdated panel we had. Along with this replacement, Jim helped pull old wiring that we found in the basement area (a DIY job from the previous owner) and installed new lights and outlets in this area. Even though we were not living in the house during the remodel, Jim and crew were good about cleaning up at the end of each day. We had already painted and carpeted the rest of the house, so we appreciated not having dirt everywhere. We would recommend Jim's work and will contact him in the spring to get a quote on a deck we're planning.

The fence is beautifual. It prompted my next door neighbor to do the same.

I contacted Vance for two separate jobs. The first was to see if they could lay down carpet and reinstall or replace baseboards in my basement. That call was never returned and I went with another company. The second job was for painting my living room with a high cathedral wall, stairwell, and upstairs hallway. I had to call twice to get someone on the phone and eventually scheduled an appointment for a quote. Just a few hours before the scheduled appointment I got a call saying that (Jim?) got held up at a job site and asked to reschedule. For the reschedule, he was a no-show. We had planned on asking for a quote on redoing some cabinets in our kitchen while he was already out there, but the no-show cost them that additional business, along with the painting job. Additionally, we ended up deciding to just have provider we selected do our basement painting instead of doing it ourselves. It was apparent that our quote request was not important. Subsequently we won't be doing business with Vance. If we had been contacted ahead of time for the second visit, I probably would have given a 3rd chance. We however were out of time so had to make a decision and move on with our lives.

Jim Vance s a top notch contractor who shows up when he says he is, performs professionally and cleans-up after he is done leaving a turn key product. He has an A in my book !

We are extremely pleased with everything. This was the last phase of a basement remodeling project that started 18 months ago with installation of a basement de-watering system. I contacted Jim, he came and talked to us about the project, gave us a proposal, and was able to get started right away. We were expecting drywall on the walls, but we love the plaster finish - it has a beautiful texture. At first I was hoping for a less expensive cost, but the end product is exactly what we were hoping for and well worth it. The texture on the walls, trim around the doors and windows, drop ceiling and can lights are all beautifully done. We now have what we were planning on 18 months ago - a dry, fully finished living/sleeping area that is as comfortable and livable as the rest of our home. We would definitely hire Jim for more projects - we are planning to have him replace our outdoor deck this spring. Thanks Jim!

It went great! I interviewed/obtained estimates from 3 contractors before choosing Vance. I also spoke with a reference of his directly. The other contractors I had out had come through direct referral of people I know, Vance I found on Angie's List so I was a little more apprehensive about hiring him since I didn't know his work first hand. He came highly recommended from his reference, his quote was more reasonable and I liked what he had to say when he was here. He provided an estimate in the time frame he said he would. To my surprise, he was able to start the job a little sooner than expected. He worked when he said he would, provided an update each day, and cleaned up the work area so it was cleaner when he left than when he got here. The kitchen remodel took longer than I would have liked, but Vance's portion took the amount of time he told me it would. Overall, I think Jim and his crew did a great job and were budget-friendly. There were no surprises with charges, work was quality and crew friendly. I have already recommended Jim to several other people. I love my new kitchen!

They were reasonably priced. They did a wonderful job.

Gave the perception of not interested in taking on additional projects... Never provide a quote after the initial visit, even after couple follow up... Will not recommend to other people!

Despite the whirlpool tub being delivered a week late (I thought I ordered it with time to spare and then the manufacturer shipped 9 days after their estimate, so not Jim's fault), Jim and crew did as much as they could without it and the work was first rate. The tub arrived after our agreed timeframe, but they came back and prepared everything for the plasterers, who also did a first rate job. I chose to finish the room myself.

Jim was there when he said he would be there. Worked full days. I have been around other contractors for different things, and their days always seem to end early. Jim and Robbie would show up, and would stay the whole day, not leaving until 4 or 5 or later. When the day was done, they would pick up everything, sweep and leave the house in great condition. You didn't have to worry about stepping on something or getting injured. We suffered the delay of waiting for cabinets, and then waiting for countertops. But when they would get here, Jim would be out to do the next phase of his work, as quickly as possible. He does excellent work. My kitchen is beautiful now, and I love spending time out there. I have already recommended him to three of my friends!

My wife and I had been wanting to remodel our kitchen for the past few years but finally decided to do it this year. We paid for a subscription to Angie's List because it was very important to get a good contractor as we were spending a lot of our hard earned money and wanted someone who was very knowledgeable and experienced. I had Jim come out and quote the job and we decided based on his reviews to go with him. Overall, we are VERY HAPPY and LOVE our new kitchen. I decided to do the demo of the old kitchen and install the new tile floor and then have Jim pick up from there. Jim was very professional and performed his job well. Our start was delayed because of unforeseen circumstances on his end, but we understood..it was just a bit disappointing having our project delayed a little. Jim was a very hard worker and subcontracted out the electrical and plaster work to his and quot;Expertsand quot;, who did a great job also. If I had to be nitpicky and say something, it would be that he could have been a tad more thorough on the very fine details. As the homeowner, during construction you tend notice every little thing and try not to sweat the very minor details...but when you are paying a lot of money to have someone perform work in your house, we expected them to work on our house like it was their house. My recommendation to him would be to make sure to spend a few minutes each day checking over things and making sure they are and quot;finishedand quot; for the day. BUT, with that being said, I made a checklist of the minor things during the button up phase of the project and Jim did an EXCELLENT job completing all the items and making sure we were happy. As far as price, I don't have a way to compare him to others because we didn't get any other quotes. I felt his quote was very fair, so that is why we chose him. I will definitely consider using him again in the future and would recommended him to my friends and family. If you are considering a large remodel job and do not want to tackle it yourself, you can choose Jim Vance with confidence. He does quality work and always listens to and addresses your concerns. The contractor did not return phone call for bathroom remodel. Disappointed. (not a small bathroom or job) Called another provider on list for estimate. Waiting for his estimate.
