The Davey Tree Expert Company

I've been using Davey's Tree for a long time and they did a very good service. I've used them for at least 10 years. They just do their job very well and they're very nice people. If they had to come and do the fertilizing; they call and they came out. They really worked with me and they really know what they were doing. They are expensive. They really help to make sure that my trees are healthy and they made recommendation to make them healthy. They're so thorough.

The service went very good; it was fine. They came out, gave me an estimate. promptly came back and did the work. I paid them and am perfectly happy with them. I like them. They have done work in my yard before and do the basic stuff, but if you have any problems with diseases or whatever they have an arborist which was separate from my regular lawn maintenance. I have about a 100-foot pine tree that they were working on as well as a smaller, Japanese bush tree. I think they are a good, reputable company.

They were great. We've had them for a very long time. They're always very prompt. They call before they come. They make sure that cars are not under the trees. There's nothing blown on the cars. They move the patio furniture out of the way. I've had them for 15 years and they're doing a great job. They're not cheap.

The actual work, I believe was ok. I'm not sure about the fertilizing as it was performed while I was not present . I asked to be there when the work was performed, I was there for the tree trimming, but for the fertilizing they showed up unannounced while I was not home, so I do not know what they actually did they, if anything, and there is no way to check as it is all done under ground they just sent the bill. I had asked for the fertilizing, but wanted to be there and that request was ignored. However my biggest complaint is about the billing. I am a member of the Chicago Botanical Garden and in a recent flier sent to me there was a $100.00 coupon for Davey tree service. The coupon states that it must be presented at the time the work is quoted. I am a new member and received the coupon after the work had been started. The coupon is good for $100.00 off of work in total costing more than $1000.00. I spent close to $1500.00 I called to see if they would honor the coupon. the first number I called was the corporate office in Cleveland OH ( I had thought they were a local company, I was wrong ) Corporate told me the coupon must be presented at time of inspection to quote the work and the woman stated the pricing was based on knowing if there was a coupon involved, but that the decision to honor the coupon or not, was done at the local office. The woman at corporate was VERY rude, she then transferred me to the local office where I talked to the receptionist, she told me it was up to the arborist to honor the coupon or not she told me she would get him on the phone. She did not. When she returned to the line she stated the policy of the coupon must be presented before the pricing is quoted and they would not honor the coupon I will let the readers make their own assumptions about that policy. I thought they were a reputable company that I got from Angie's list. I feel I was wrong A tree company not honoring a coupon from the Chicago Botanical Garden ?? I realize it clearly said must be present at time of quote, but I really feel it is a bit of bait and switch. I will not use them again, cannot recommend them and hope this review may make a difference in the way they do business, especially the attitude of the customer service woman at the corporate office in Cleveland Thank you

Contractor failed to suggest trees suitable to the landscape due to failure to assess the landscape, and subsequently failed to reassess

They're excellent. Their cost is not the cheapest. They were punctual and professional. They were also courteous. I felt comfortable with them. It's a very professional organization.

An employee came to the house and walked around the yard with me making notes about each tree. He then consulted his computer and gave me a price within a few minutes. I called the company a few days later and set up an appointment. Two men came out and did everything on the list, exactly as I requested, plus a few more cuts they suggested would be a good idea at no additional charge. When they were finished, everything was cleaned and removed.

Davey Tree sent their worker with the fertilizer and applicator. He apply the fertilizer, left the invoice in the front door and left.

They are very friendly. They show up when they are supposed to show up. They are reasonably priced. There is a guy that comes in here and makes sure that people doing the work are doing what they are supposed to and he talks to me about other things. So it is an attention to detail too. They were the best priced around for the tree service in January. So, I can go to one company and get things done on the outside without having to deal with three or four different places.

We had used them several years ago. We liked them and so called them back. It was easy to get an appointment when I needed them to. They were on time for the appointment. One arborist from the company came in the fall to give us an estimate and look at everything we wanted to have done. He made a list and gave us an estimate. They came back and did everything. They were professional and courteous. They were very good. They did a good job. They were here for about three hours on a pretty cold day. The price was good.

The Davey tree technicians were great to work with and did a great job! They were very professional and cleaned up the job site when the trimming was completed. The only issue I had was the lack of follow-up by the salesman. We agreed that it would be better to delay the trimming for a few weeks and then I never heard from him again. I called to request a "work start date" from the salesman and never received a response from him, but the Davey tree technicians showed up a day or two later. A simple callback from the salesman with a date that they were going to start work would have been appreciated (and was expected)

Very well. the gentleman who provided the quote was professional, polite and knowledgeable. We were referred to Davey by a neighbor who said she had received lower quotes but the people didn't show up, didn't show up when they said they would, or she had other problems. We had no problems with Davey - they were prompt, did an excellent job, including clean up. They will likely not be the lowest quote, but reliability was very important to us.

I saw the service working in the area and they looked professional, so I got their office phone number. When I called they promptly arranged an appointment with Ryan Sherman, their arborist for my area. Ryan Showed up at the appointed time and quoted me a reasonable price for the required work. He also expertly answered questions about other trees on my lot. When the workers showed up they fell the tree carefully directing the fall away from my house. They worked efficiently sectioning the tree and cleaning up all the large and small branches. When they left, I knew that I had selected the right company. Not only would I use them again, I will use them again.

Very impressed - quotes were punctual and professional, everything went smoothly. Date for removal they started right on time, had all 11 Ash trees down and stumps ground by the end of the day. Cleanup was great, all the employees were professional and polite.

From the moment I called, I knew I would be satisfied because I got a live person on the phone and not a recording. The phone answerer was very polite and efficient. She told me the arborist for Hoffman Estates would call and set up an estimate. Within a few days, Nick called and we set up an appointment for two days later. He arrived on time; I told him what I was interested in, and my concerns I had for some of the trees. He advised me which of the trees should be pruned and which should be left alone. I also told him I was interested in removing the crab. He told me it was diseased, but didn't have to be removed at that time. I told him I was tired of the mess and wanted it to come down. When he asked me if I wanted a new tree in its place, I answered in the affirmative. He then asked me what kind of tree I would like planted and I told him I wanted him to make suggestions. He was polite, social, and very easy to work with. He then went to his car and, on the computer, typed up a proposal. He also suggested a paper bark maple which would be a good specimen to accent our Little King birch. He then asked if I wanted to go ahead with the proposal, and I told him I wanted to talk it over with my wife. The prices for pruning and cutting and cabling were competitive with several other companies, so that was not the reason for the delay. We wanted to research the paper bark maple since we had never heard of one before. The next day, I sent in a proposal. On the 15th he called to set up a time to sign the contract for the maple and for the work, April 18. On April 17, the company came out to fertilize the trees and shrubs. He rang the doorbell, and, by the time I got to the door, he was already at his truck, getting the equipment set up. He waved and began to work. He was starting to fertilize the crab when I told him he needn't bother as it was coming down. We chatted for a few minutes, and he was also every friendly and efficient. The next day, the tree crew came out, rang the doorbell, introduced themselves and took me around the yards to let me know their action plan and also to double check that their orders were the same as mine. The first thing they did was fell the tree, then sawed it in parts and fed it to the grinder. Next they planted the paper birch. Before thy set it in the ground permanently, they called me outside to check to make sure I was happy with the tree and the manner in which they faced the branches. I told them I deferred to them, and they explained the reason they planted the tree the way they did. Then Nick came out to tell me how to take care of it. My wife and I were going out of town, so we left them to finished the pruning of the trees. When we returned late that night, the entire property was very clean, sidewalks and grass, and the trees were well pruned. I originally told them the reason I felt the trees needed to be pruned, and they took care to make sure I would be very satisfied with the results. I was. On Monday 21, the company called to ask if I was pleased with the work and if I had any questions. I told them I was extremely pleased and had sent in an evaluation to the company.

My mother has an dying ash tree, also with ash bore disease, and I will contact Davey to big on the removal and replacement of that one as well as soon as the snow melts.

They started the day they told me they would. They had machinery malfunction so they had to return the next week to finish the job. They returned as agreed and completed the job. They did a wonderful job. Their sales person Bob is very professional and pleasant to deal with. I would definitely recommend them to anyone. Their price was cheaper than someone else that also gave me an estimate.

It went better than I expected. The tree was in a tricky area of the back yard. There are 4 separate garden sheds right near where the tree needed to be taken down (one was mine, the other 3 were neighbor sheds). I was worried there would be some damage but none occured. The 4 guys worked very methodically and safely to bring the tree down. They hauled it all away and most of the grass and foliage was unaffected. I compared Daveys estimate to a couple others and they were several hundred lower. So, it was a good deal but I am more impressed about how well it was done without incident. My wife and I had worried for weeks about how they were going to get this done, but that was unnecessary. Well done Davey. I immediately recommended them to a cousin who also needs to have a tree taken down.

I got 2 other estimates both below $900, and I went with the cheapest at $600. They did a fine job, so I don't see what value paying $1260 would bring.

The work was done while I was at work, so I was unable to observe there performance. But, I am satisfied with what they did.

The Davey Tree Company was great. They were very responsive, got right to me and made an appointment with me. He did get back to me and tell me exactly when he was coming. He did the work, left the bill and it was great. It cost exactly what they said it would.
