Think twice before hiring Rick?s Hardwood Flooring. Using local milled wood, we had our contractor install a red oak floor in our connecting living room, dining room, and kitchen. It was almost flawless and barely needed to be sanded before finishing. On March 14, 2012, Rick Anger brushed off my concerns about the lines in our new floor identifying them as the "grain in the wood" before buffing and finishing the floor and then disappearing. Next day, it took him four hours to return my call where he stated that the sander had been recently serviced incorrectly by a vender in Iowa City, IA. Mr. Anger stated that similar lines were evident with his current client?s floor. Four days later, he returned with a repaired sander for two hours before leaving again to return to the Iowa City vender due to lines still in the floor. Frustrated, our contractor did some research with a flooring expert and confronted Mr. Anger. Mr. Anger made repeated attempts to repair the chatter marks on our floor. On March 22, he buffed the wood and applied the final coat of finish indicating there would be no charge. On March 23, we were left a finished coated floor with visible chatter marks across it and several pooled finish with sanding dust in them. I was unable to reach Mr. Anger and left a message on his answering service. Mr. Anger never responded to our message. It took us 3 ½ weeks of additional household disruption to find another floor finisher who could schedule us in and complete the work of minimizing the damage that Mr. Anger left in our floor. The floor was inspected by All American Flooring Solutions in April, 2012. The investigative report indicated a dip in the floor 4 foot wide by 5/16" deep. The report concluded that Rick Anger was responsible for the chatter marks and that when interviewed, Mr. Anger admitted that he had never taken the sander to have it serviced before sanding and finishing our floor! Interested in integrity, customer job satisfaction, and accountability? Go elsewhere. Our lessons: Verbal contracts are binding but written contracts leave a paper trail. Be skeptical of third party claims of responsibility. Be less "understanding" of the plight of the service provider. Be sure the service provider's work is guaranteed in writing. a
