Allen did a fabulous job with our deck. His project was done in the time frame expected, was of extremely high quality, and our new deck is beautiful. We will enjoy it for many years and it has increased the value of our home. He is a very hard worker, he is efficient, but doesn't sacrifice quality - high quality is the very most important thing to him. We would recommend him without hesitation and we are very pleased that we selected him as our contractor.

Allen and his team did a great job replacing my 23 year old deck that was on its last legs. The project was on time, on budget and I could not be more pleased with the final results, The new deck totally transformed the back of my house and the craftsmanship was cabinetry level. Allen Kirsch is the BEST CONTRACTOR I have worked with for all of my home improvement projects. His price was very reasonable, he assisted us with designing our deck, provided us with top-of-the-line materials and dealt with our county for permits and inspections (no easy feat). He was timely, communicated with us every step of the way, and his work ethic is unreproachable. His craftsmanship is METICULOUS. I would highly recommend Al to our family, neighbors and friends. So at the beginning I was skeptical… no big fancy website, shrewd sales department, customer service representatives or middle-people… just a(The) Deck Guy(z)… a what you see is what you get-type operation, a real old-fashioned, word-of-mouth, independent small business. So I went with my gut (and my dog’s gut!) and I’m glad we did. It turns out it was great to work with someone who had real personal investment in the integrity of their craft, rather than just any random contractor assigned to the job by some bigger outfit collecting a paycheck. Allen replied immediately to my inquiry here on Angi, and shot me a ballpark estimate over the phone based on dimensions and materials, just to be sure we weren’t wasting each other’s time, and then he came out probably the very next day for a consult, might have even been a Sunday. I got another visit a couple days later with a written agreement/contract with prices and dates. Work began and finished on schedule, and on budget, including a few modifications and improvisations along the way. I was a little nervous when I asked them to extend a pathway, which involved a considerable amount of extra heavy duty concrete demo, and subsequent tweaks in design. But they rolled with it and made it happen on the fly, and I couldn’t be happier with the result. (Why on earth doesn’t Angi allow pics in the review?!) Al and PJ were a pleasure to see and interact with each day I was at home during the project. But on my work days I trusted them implicitly with access to my home/garage/yard as necessary, and they were beyond respectful of my property and pets… my dog and 2 cats enjoyed supervising the work and occasionally lending a helping “paw”. We’re actually going to miss having them around and just might have to find another excuse, I mean project! to hire them again in the future.

My wife and I highly recommend Al Kirsch, the "Deck Guyz," for the wonderful outdoor deck he built in 2019, and for a perfect repair job in 9/21/2021. We live in a western suburb of Chicago, where this summer I fumbled a charcoal chimney onto the deck and the hot coals burned into nine of the planks. I called Al and got his estimate, which my insurance company found to be very, very reasonable. Then he went to work. Unfortunately some of the replacement planks from the supplier were warped, and then the replacements for those planks had a slightly different width. It took the Deck Guyz extra time to overcome those problems, including having to re-lay all the planks to equalize the new spacing. Extra time normally means extra money, but Al insisted on accepting only the original cost estimate. And the result is stunning. The new planks fit perfectly in color and size, so now I can finally put that crazy charcoal blunder behind me." R. Ray

Al was awesome! We had a vague idea of what kind of deck we wanted in our backyard and Al designed and built something that completely exceeded our expectations. Al was professional, courteous , efficient and did not cut corners. Bottom-line, Al built us great deck, did it at a very fair price and was a pleasure to work with. I give the Deck Guyz 5 stars. Five stars because Al is a real craftsman, builds beautiful decks and finishes the job on time. And, he does all the work himself! No crews... Our job consisted of tear down our old deck and build a new deck. We wanted to use as much of the old structure as possible to save money since we are planning to stay in our house a few more years. Early in the project we realized we needed a better support structure. Al was very accommodating on this change. The support he put in is better than the original. The deck he built is beautiful, will give us years of enjoyment and add value to the price of our house. If you need a new deck and have the opportunity to hire the Deck Guyz... do it! Al is one of the best contractors we have worked with in our many years owning a house.

We want to highly recommend Al Kirsch and "The Deck Guys" for the beautiful deck he created at our home in west suburban Chicago. He suggested a color and design which fits in perfectly with the landscape and the house. We've had numerous compliments from our family, neighbors and friends. Quality, Beauty, Value, Timeliness, and on budget -- the Deck Guys delivered on all of these. Al and his team immediately understood what we wanted and were looking for, quickly came up with detailed options that we could review and decide on, and built an exceptional deck. The design magically fit with the design of the house, like it was designed to be with it from the start. The deck was built like an aircraft carrier, exceptionally strong with more foundation than peer decks. The design and look and feel were top of the line, it delivered on everything we were hoping for and more. Their earlier Angies List reviews mentioned "Al was an artist" and his and his team's work is very much like ART! Also noteworthy, they took us on as their last job of the season and got started right on time and completed right on time (just in time to miss the snow season...). Al and his team are TOP of the line PROFESSIONALS and a JOY TO WORK with. They were very fairly priced for how strong their product and delivery were. The work site was always left clean and organized. We are recommending them highly to all our friends.

We had a deck that was falling apart. Al came out and measured and showed us some samples. We had received quotes from others, so we were pleased when Al's quote was less than the others. He offered to show us decks that he had built, and we even went to his home where he has replaced his own deck. We hired him, and he started on the permits. That took some time because of DuPage County and Lisle Township, but he kept us informed along the way. He let us know when he would start, and he and PJ showed up on time and ready to go. They tore out the old deck, and dug holes for the new posts, and after inspections, they started building. As they built, they kept us updated on the status. Very friendly and great to work with. We are extremely happy with the deck. Our neighbor (who is a structural engineer) said the deck was one of the best he had seen. We paid extra to have a Trex Deck, and I'm so glad we did. It is beautiful. Best deck in the neighborhood.
