There were large gaps between the pavers at the end of my driveway. When Pat got here, he convinced me to do additional work in other areas of the driveway. On the next visit, Pat said I should cut back some trees and shrubs around my property. A mature birch tree and an evergreen shrub was cut down to a stump, while I wasn't home. This appears to be part of his MO - as he added many things to the "verbal contract" every chance he got, doubling the contract price without providing any paperwork or receiving any signed approvals. Then when it came to payment he REQUIRED CASH. I am a small Asian woman and when questioning the quality of work he got visibly frustrated and shouted at me in front of my 8 year old that "[he] should have known better than to deal with a...." at which point I asked him to leave my property. The "great job" he did leaves my driveway looking aesthetically worse than when he started, and my pavers are still shifting - wish I could upload a short video.

Response from Midwest Landscaping Design & Tree Service Inc
I was called out for a renovation of property. I walked around with the homeowner and pointed out the birch was half dead and evergreen next to driveway was overgrown. We both agreed it should be cut down. The homeowner then asked if I did pavers. She said she got quotes to replace it, but they were too expensive. She suggested if I could just repair what she had. I told her I could remove some of the sunk bricks(which turned out to be 2/3 of her driveway) and put down gravel and put down polymeric sand. When removing the bricks I noticed the bricks were severely worn. I sent the homeowner pictures and told her I would do what I could because they were so worn. When driveway was done the homeowner called and said some of the sand didn't take. Went back and put sand on driveway again and noticed in the garage there were severe cracks in the cement. I questioned the homeowner and she replied. "There may be an underground spring". Which is why They are so worn. I have several pictures and videos of the work being done. As far as being loud and arguing that never happened. The racist comment she is saying is totally ridiculous. 90 percent of my crew is diverse. Please everyone review the before and after pictures. There are no sinking bricks when we were done as you can see in our pictures. If you go to google and put in our company name, the last 13 photos are of the homeowner's driveway. I do have video, but it doesn't allow them.

Midwest landscaping did a much needed front yard design in the fall of last year. They recently removed a overgrown hedge. Pat and his crew did a great job. Look forward to having my yard mulched this spring

It was fantastic. So pleased with my decision to go forward. Gave me estimate quickly. Design ideas which chose to do. The most professional group of workers I have dealt with. Was going to do just the front yard. Ended up doing the entire yard. It’s beautiful. I highly recommend them.

Prior years Past Experience - Very Good, no drama, very professional April 2019 Experience - No Contract, now implied contract is based upon text messages. Midwest Landscaping provided a sample picture of dry creek bed followed by text messages of differences, Started and finished in one day. Completed project nothing close to picture. Complained the next day. Owner extremely confrontational and very unprofessional, This project is changing from "Disaster" to "Nightmare". They have turn this into a "He said, She Said" Situation. All emails, text messages and phone call can be confirmed through subpoenas, the verbal confrontations through witnesses, etc. if this situation continues to escalate. Facts are: He sent a sample picture with a description of the variations. Pictures of the project clearly show the quality. Their website has a "Customer Satisfaction Guaranteed" Yet, the Owner has been confrontational since April 23rd when I had contacted him regarding the quality of the work and clearly expressing my displeasure. I have tried to document the status of how the grass seeds have been growing and not growing. We have never attempted to grow grass through seeds - between the rain and the seeds not poperly covered, this has been one of the worst experiences which has been magnified by Midwest Landscaping unprofessional behavior and his inability to remember what was agreed upon including "$6,800 for everything". When I attempted to clarify my explanations, his response remain confrontational and would follow up with "Not in the contract". Unfortunately, i went into this landscaping project with Midwest Landscaping believing the workmanship, his workcrew, comunication would be the same at our previous experience. Sunday, May 12th, I sent a text message and a message through their website believing Pat Campion had blocked my cell phone stating in my text message "to let me know if we are able to come to an agreement." Since there was no contract signed and I paid both the deposit and the remaining balance before the job was complete, the only way to resolve the "implied contract" is through text messages and emails. My last text message was my message to Pat on May 12th. I have taken screen shots documenting any correspondence that was received with the date and time. I never received a response after my attemp to reach and agreement . In theory, if a message was sent and no response received, Midwest Landscaping, came to my house when I was not home. proceeded to remove a Hydreangas Tree from our back yard and replant it in the front yard, had a heated confrontation with our local landscaper who was at our house clearing weeds and planting perennials. This situation escalated and 911 was called. Midwest Landscaping should have never stepped onto our property especially if we were not home and they had absolutely no right to demand our local landscaper leave our property when she was the only one who had our permission. When the owner and his wife decided to remove the Hydreangas tree from our back yard and replant it in the front yard without our knowledge and permission - this is property damage ie. vandalism. Now we are facing an additional expense of moving and replanting a tree that should have never been moved. As I have learned today after numerous calls to tree service companies and landscapers, established trees should not be replanted due to potential damage to their roots.

$6,800

Response from Midwest Landscaping Design & Tree Service Inc
All work was completed as discussed and agreed upon. Deposit was paid on April 18, balance was paid on April 22 after work was liked and balance was paid in full. Also Angies list doesn't allow pictures to responses but I have a email from [Member Name Removed] stating "Pat was suppose to move the hydrangea tree in the back to the front since the hydrangea are poisonous to dogs and re-glue the brick by the steps. Both were installed by your company previously. He quoted $6,800 for everything including a butterfly bush. What is going on-the project was not handled not even close to the past project. There is a guarantee on your website. Why was the job handled so differently from the past job". So their statement about not asking for the tree to be moved is a bald face lie. which shows the character of the people we have tried numerous times to satisfy. The tree was moved to the front and butterfly bush planted as well as the brick glued. The project is complete. Both the BBB and the Attorney General have reviewed the complaint from this customer and after reviewing closed the case. Customer continues to badger our company and name on social media with no merit!

Midwest Landscaping did a top-notch job on my front yard. I had 2 trees that needed major trimming, along with thinning of an over abundance of hostas. Pat was very personable and friendly, making it easy for me to voice my wishes and concerns. He explained in detail the big branches he would cut, where and how he would place the flagstone paths & outcropping stones and also the new nursery stock his workers would be planting. He and his team were quick and professional completing their work and clean-up in one day. They moved and re-planted some of my existing plants too, expertly placing them and changing my helter-skelter overgrown hosta carpet to a beautiful park-like setting. Beginning with something that looked overly oppressive & shady, my front landscaping now looks light, airy and welcoming. My curb appeal has just gone up 100%! Pat and his team of professionals were fabulous!

Pat and his group did a great job of a remodel of my landscape with special attention and update to areas that get little sunlight. We are very pleased with the results. Have tried other landscapers, some on A. L. and feel this company is superior in its expertise, plant/muclch recommendations and quality/professionalism of work done.

Unfortunately Midwest Landscaping never returned our call. How disappointing.

Very disappointing. Showed up unannounced and with no appointment. Pat changed his estimate when he arrived. Demanded cash payment before work was completed. Did not complete trimming of back shrubs. Ruined grass in front yard by setting tools in grass. Became verbally abusive when questioned about payment and services rendered. Paid a lot of money to get treated so poorly. Very unprofessional. I am the HOA president and will definitely not recommend to my neighbors.

So unfortunate that you do a favor for a customer and they leave a review like this. Truth be told Midwest Landscaping did work for the [Member Name Removed]'s last year and then they called us back this year. Mrs. [Member Name Removed] was told that last years estimate was way under priced for all the work performed. Midwest would not be able to honor that quote this year. But because you were a return client I would let my crew do your job for the same price on a weekend and you could pay the guys cash. Midwest landscaping was not making any money from your job. The job took almost 9 hours. The [Member Name Removed]'s also had the men do work that was never estimated. So in short I guess I have learned a lesson.

Pat and his team did an amazing job on a total makeover in February no less!! We recently finished a home addition and needed lots of pathway, stone, and yard work. Pat's team handled all of this while grading all of the land around the structure to assure proper drainage. They went above and beyond the scope and i truly believe he treated our yard like it was his own. The crew worked extremely hard and responded to several requests for adjustments. They cleaned up after every phases. I heartily recommend Midwest Landscaping!!!!

We are extremely happy with the quality and artistry of the landscaping! Unlike a previous company we hired for landscaping, Midwest put in larger bushes and denser landscaping right off the bat, so it looked great right away! They made wonderful choices of flowers and plants. They exceeded our expectations with the quantity and quality of their landscaping. When they came back to prune and do maintenance and mulching, they did a wonderful job again. We highly recommend them!

Mr. Campion apologized for the slow response time (meaning phone calls weren't returned the same or the next day) - he explained that this was a very busy time for them. But they did come out and do the work within a week of the estimate visit. The crew consisted of three pleasant, hard-working young people. I asked them if they could, while they were here, to trim the Rose-of-Sharon bushes, and they did. (From about 8 feet tall to about 6 feet, which made further pruning manageable for me). That was not part of the estimated work and they had to use human-powered nippers/loppers. The cleanup was well-done.
Description of Work: They thinned out two good-sized silver maple trees in our yard that were extremely twiggy and full of suckers. Also trimmed the top couple of feet from a pair of Rose of Sharon bushes.

Called around for landscaping estimates. When I called Midwest I was told by the lady, who was very nice, that she wasn't sure if they serviced my area. Pat showed up on time. I told him that someone else had already given me an estimate to do cleanup work, but I wanted an estimate from him for the other work we needed to get done. Pat asked me to show him what the other company was going to do. We walked around the house and I explained what they planned to do. Pat quoted me a price to do the same work, and asked how close he was. His price was 3 times higher than the other company. I recognize that he was going to do a lot more cleanup than the other company (removing dead branches and other cleanup to the entire "forested area" in our back yard), however, the difference in price was too high to justify having him do the work instead of them. I told Pat that it was OK but I would just have the other company do the cleanup work, however, I still needed an estimate for the installation work. He seemed to become upset. I started to talk about the other work I wanted done and he quoted me a price before I even finished telling him what I wanted. When I explained there was more he just said something like, "Have them do it". He turned around and left and said as he walked away and to call if I needed anything. I am sure it was an uncomfortable situation for him, but I was not "price shopping". I was not trying to pit him against the other company. I just wanted a quote for the work I needed done. All in all, I don't appreciate the way he treated me. In retrospect I probably should have waited to have him come to my house until after the other work was done, but we are in a time crunch to get everything done as quickly as possible. I guess the sad thing is I am looking for someone to do a lot of work for us, and Pat lost the opportunity.
Description of Work: I have been using a different tree service for years. I recently had the service I normally use provide an estimate to take down a dead tree, prune some other trees, and do some other cleanup. However, I needed some new trees installed and the service I have used told me they did not do tree installation. I looked for another provider and found Midwest on Angie's list. I called and scheduled an appointment to get an estimate to have 2 trees installed, 4 bushes, and mulch for all of our landscaping.

Sorry for the way you took my estimate. But like I explained to you it would be more costly for you to have two company's do the work you were looking to have done. And I explained to u that I couldn't perform the tree work you needed. I don't do tree stumping.

David came to the rescue after my first experience with grubs. I tried to solve my grub problem myself, following advice I found online. The grubs continued to live, and raccoons would destroy my yard every night. I called David out of desperation, and he came quickly to inspect the yard and confirm it was grubs. He placed the proper chemical on the lawn and soon my lawn was safe from all critters. He also inspected my large and overwhelming back yard, gave some good advice about the shrubs and future landscaping ideas. He came back to make sure the grubs had died and fertilized my lawn to make it happy again. Working with MidWest was a pleasure. I highly recommend them - now i know why MidWest is the Best! I can't wait for Spring!
