I have never had a worse experience making a purchase as I did with Grant?s Appliance. I learned a lesson here. I went to them because someone whose opinion I valued recommended them highly. I will never do that again without first checking Angie?s List. I would have seen the writing on the wall. I was having my kitchen remodeled and needed to replace the dishwasher and the built in oven. Grant?s carried the appliances I wanted. After I signed the contract with the kitchen designer, We went to Grant?s to look at the appliances. I had no plans to make a purchase at that time. It was the beginning of November and work wasn?t supposed to begin on the kitchen until some time in February. The salesman advised us to make the purchase at that time, to beat an 11% price increase at the beginning of the year. He said they would hold them in their warehouse until we needed them, and they would be tagged with our name so nobody would sell them. It sounded like good customer service, so we bought and paid for the appliances, foolishly thinking they were our property now. We were told that when we needed delivery, to give them 5 days notice so they could put it on the delivery schedule. I called on January 21, 2012 to schedule delivery. The work was starting on my kitchen on February 10, 2014 and I was advised that the appliances would be installed approximately 10 days into the project. That gave Grant?s plenty of time. Delivery was scheduled for February 8, 2014. I got a call from our salesman late in the day on February 6, 2014. He said they had the oven, but didn?t have the dishwasher; did I want the oven anyway? The next day he called to say they didn?t have either appliance. I let him know how angry I was that he sold MY property, and he said he would see what he could do and call me back, which he did promptly. At no additional cost to us, he was going to give us an upgraded dishwasher, but still no oven. I had the dishwasher delivered because I could no longer trust Grant?s at their word. I was told the oven would come on the 12th to the 14th of February, they would get back to me. On February 12, 2014, I got a call late in the day from the vice president in charge of sales and that he would personally make sure my oven was delivered promptly. Then the excuses started. The oven was backordered, but I was at the head of the list and a delivery was expected in 2 days, I could expect delivery in 3 days. I knew it was a popular oven and I knew it wasn?t a stock item. I had contacted other appliance stores and they gave me delivery dates that were still a couple of weeks out. I was assured Grant?s got deliveries from Whirlpool every day or so. The next excuse was that the truck came in, but my oven wasn?t on it. Then the oven was coming out on the next truck, but wasn?t on the truck again. Then the roads in Ohio were closed due to weather and no trucks could get out. I was assured that even if my kitchen was finished, they would install the oven for me at no charge. There was no way I was going to allow that after the shoddy service I got so far. Finally, on about February 18, 2014, the VP talked to my husband and set up a new delivery date. On that date, we got another call telling us that our oven was on the truck but it got damaged in transit. That was the last straw. Had we gone on, I suspect the next excuse would be that our oven had been abducted by aliens. My husband called everywhere looking for someone who had the oven we wanted. He found a store in Omaha NE that had it in stock and was prepared to drive to get it ? we are in IL. He kept making calls and found another one in Bridgeview for $130 less than what Grant?s had charged us for the same thing. He immediately picked it up and then called Grant?s to cancel our order. He was told they would cancel it, but he would have to come back into the store with his credit card to be issued a credit. That was unnecessary because they already had his credit information. He did and was told that the credit would be issued in 7 ? 10 days. On 3/10/14, the credit had still not been issued. He called the VP again. He was told that someone had marked the file that we were coming back into the store to select a different appliance. The VP said he would correct it and the credit was finally issued on 3/11/14. Not only would I advise anyone to totally steer clear of Grant?s Appliance, but I would tell them to run the other way.
Description of Work: Sold us appliances but only delivered one of them.

The bottom line of this incident is that Grant's Appliances had terrible customer service, extremely high prices, and a history of misleading or outright lying to their customers. I have never had a more miserable experience. We were in the market for appliances for a new house and stopped at Grant's on Butterfield. Tim Bromberek was a good salesman. He talked us into ordering everything right then, even though the house would not be ready for 4 months. We had to pay to pay the entire amount up front, but they would hold it until we were able to accept the shipment. The TV cabinet we bought was a floor model and was supposed to be wrapped and stored in their warehouse. It seemed like a good idea to get it all done at once and Tim assured us that he would accommodate any sales that came up in the interim, which was apparently never even on his radar. The first that we knew that there were problems was when I stopped in a couple of weeks later to ask how much advanced warning they would need to ship the order and found that the TV cabinet was back being used as a display instead of being protected in the warehouse. They apologized and moved it back. A month before we needed delivery, I went back to set the delivery time. I had been told 2 weeks was sufficient. A week before we were to accept delivery and move in, I received a call from Grant's that my refrigerator was just being built and would not be available for shipment until several days after we were supposed to move in. The gentleman who called only wanted to know if I wanted the refrigerator delivered separately or if I wanted to hold the entire order until the refrigerator was ready. Without a refrigerator we could not move in, but the person who called only cared about the one question about delivery. I called the store and they did agree to lend us a loaner refrigerator until ours was ready. We accepted delivery, part of which was supposed to be the setup of all of the appliances. We did not realize that the TV that we bought would be set up on a different day, which had been scheduled without our knowledge or agreement to the date and time. When the people came to "set up" the tv, we found that it was not the model that we had seen in the store and ordered. The big thing that we liked was that it swiveled. This one did not and we found that the tv had been "upgraded" to a different model without our knowledge and consent. After complaining, they found the original model was still available and we were assured that it swiveled and they agreed to switch it. The new refrigerator was finally brought in and the people who installed it, left without doing a full set up including removing all of the wrapping and left quite a mess. The tv came on a different day and again, they scheduled the "set up" of the TV on a separate day, also without our knowledge or agreement even after the complaints about the first time that they had done this. The people delivering the TV were supposed to also check the dryer, which still had a smell of gas. They supposedly fixed the dryer, but later I found that they had neglected to turn the gas back on. The TV as delivered was refused because it still did not swivel. We finally decided to just have them take the TV back, especially when we found that we could get the same model for $300.00 less and an upgraded one for $200.00 less that actually did swivel. We were assured repeatedly that the credit would be issued on the day that the TV was returned. Two days after returning the TV, there was still no indication of the credit to the account and in calling the customer service number I found that it would be 10 days before the credit would be issued. So again, we were basically lied to about the issue. The people that I talked to about the issue were belligerent and unhelpful. There was never any concern about what we as the customer had issues about. They had our money and customer service was unnecessary to them. I will never purchase anything from them again.
Description of Work: Purchased new refrigerator, washer & dryer, 47" TV, and a TV cabinet

Received a call the morning of the delivery that the door was back-ordered and that they would be delivering only the range and that the microwave was going to be delivered at a future date. I asked that they please deliver the range and microwave at the same time and that the microwave door with the scratch could be replaced when the new door came in. They refused to bring both appliances and said "that option requires to much work / red tape to deal with, the door must be replaced at our store". With resistance I agreed to have them only deliver the range since we had no working stove. Stove was installed OK and is a very nice GE appliance. I did not appreciate the look I got from the delivery people when I asked them to please be very careful in the kitchen with the hard wood floor. They did'nt seem to appreciate me asking them to be careful. Two weeks went by and no phone call, so I called Grant's on 02/14/12 and the person that I called had no information to give me about my microwave that still was not delivered. The next day I got a phone call that the door was in the storage room and they were waiting for a repair person to come to the store to install the door on my micorwave. Two more weeks go by and they finally had the microwave ready. On 02/27/12 they delivered the microwave. I had just had my carpet cleaned and I asked the gentelman to remove there shoes and he once again gave me a horrible look like I did'nt know what I was talking about. I had to go and get some Jewel bags to have him put on his shoes because he refused to remove his shoes. TO MY DISMAY: they carried the microwave into my house and told me that the special kit that is used to install the microwave to my kitchen cabinets and the wall did not come in the truck with them. So they left the microwave on the floor of my laundry room and said they would have to come again to install it with the proper equipment. Today is 03/02/12 and I asked for a delivery today and I have receive no phone call about the status of having my microwave installed. We are approaching six weeks and I still have no microwave installed with my range. I remember 15 years ago when we purchased our first washer and dryer from the only Grant's store in Joliet when you had to pay with cash or a check. We got such a great deal and a friendly deliver in 3 days. We will never make a purchase at Grant's ever again. If I owned a company like this I would call them every day to keep them up to date. FINAL COMMENTS: Finally after calling the Grant's Corporate Office I was able to get the door for the microwave delivered in 5 days and everything seems to me moving quickly after I bypassed the Downers Grove North facility and went directly to the corporate office. I did not wish to talk to the DG facility any more and dealt directly with the main corporate office in Joliet. Everything was finally installed on March 19, 2012. I made the purchase on January 27, 2012. My only suggestion is that I would not shop at Grant's (especially the Downers Grove Facility). Hopefully they will have a new manager of that facility soon. All the best!
Description of Work: I purchased a GE Profile Range and Microwave Combination on 01/27/12 at Grant's Appliances in Downer Grove, Illinois. I purchased a floor model range and microwave from the store. It was decided that the door was going to be replaced on the microwave due to a large scratch that was on the door. We purchased the product on 01/27/12 and we scheduled delivery for 02/03/12. We were told the microwave door would be in the following Monday and that the new door would be installed and both appliances would be delivered on our scheduled delievery date of 02/03/12.

The men who installed the new refrigerator didn't check to make sure the ice maker was hooked up correctly. There's a clamp on the back of the frig that holds the water line tight so it doesn't move and leak - they didn't attach the clamp; one week later I had water seeping up from between the planks of my laminate floor because the water line was loose. $6500 later - my insurance company had to pay to replace the entire floor. Grant's reimbursed my insurance but it never should have happened. Also, the rebate program is a scam - the company that is supposed to send you your gift card is bankrupt and out of business.
Description of Work: Replaced a refrigerator and chose Grant's because of a "grocery rebate" promotion.

Senga is very knowledgeable about dishwashers. She knew exactly the make and model from the product number I gave her. When I said I was checking prices elsewhere, she went online to find the current prices at several other stores, and beat the lowest price by $20. The dishwasher was $379 for the stainless steel model, plus $135 to install. That sounded like the best price compared to other places I had checked, so I said yes. While she was ringing up my sale she mentioned an additional $10 to "tip the driver" to haul away the old machine. I was disgusted that she didn't disclose all fees upfront, and she saw it, so said that she would take $10 off the delivery fee (so I still paid $135 total). Richard the installer called as schedule and installed as scheduled. He did drip water all over my kitchen floor and used my new decorative dishtowel to sop up water as he moved the old dishwasher. My new towel got brown and dirty. For $135 installation he could bring his own towels. Also, I just went outside and found the huge dishwasher box full of styrofoam and wood in my driveway! Again, for $135 EVERYTHING should be taken away. Now I have to cut the box down for recycling and pay for the disposal of the styrofoam. It really left a bad taste in my mouth, and felt like he didn't deliver what was promised to me. The dishwasher looks good and is working fine, but this could have been a much better experience. I can't believe I had to "tip" this guy who left water all over my floor and garbage in my driveway.
Description of Work: I bought a Whirlpool dishwasher (DU1055XTSS) from Grants, including delivery, set up and haul-away of old dishwasher.

Its been a number of years that I have visited this store the reason I avoided in the past is because of the lack of professionalism displayed by the sales people. Basically Grants is a place that has fast talking salesman who tells you they have the lowest price, however when the price quoted me was more than another store, the salesperson became surly, down right mean and literally told me to leave. I was shocked that anyone would be so rude and then I was reminded of another time when the same thing happened and the sales person told me after I gave him my lowest price to get lost and go buy it somewhere else. As my wife and I were walking away I heard the salesperson call us jerks. We will never go there again and my wife promised that she will tell our church to never buy anything in that place. Its unfortunate but Grants is a place that tries to take advantage of the uninformed, if you do your homework they can't match it they will act like smart a** punks. No Thanks!

We have weird size requirements for our fridge, and the Grant sales guy was really patient and helpful, walking us through the store and making suggestions for how we could most economically achieve our kitchen goals. The sales guy was very knowledgeable and really knew his product, but didn't seem pushy. When we finish the kitchen demolition and construction and are ready to purchase appliances, we'll be back. Prices were excellent, too.
Description of Work: Went to Grant's to see what kind of appliances they had, in anticipation of a future kitchen remodel. We needed exact dimensions and sizes so we could properly design our kitchen cabinets.

Grant's was very good. I compared prices on the internet and in other stores and theirs were very competitive. They made sure the right appliances were delivered exactly when I needed them per my remodeling contract. They even came back and removed the old appliances after the contractor had demolished the old kitchen. They charged nothing for the extra trip, just the normal $10 or $20 per appliance that they would have charged on the delivery trip. They also deliver whenever you want them to, including weekends. The only thing I didn't like is that they call between 6am and 7am the day of delivery (too early for weekends) to give you a 4-hour window for delivery (standard but too wide in my opinion.) They were almost an hour late on the day of delivery and they didn't call--I found out by calling them.
Description of Work: Bought 4 new appliances from Downers Grove south store for kitchen remodel--range, dishwasher, refrigerator, microhood--to be delivered to coordinate with the beginning of the contractor's work on the kitchen.

GRANTS DID NOT MEET OUR EXPECTATIONS. THE SALESPERSON WAS OK. THE PRICE WAS GOOD. I GUESS 'YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR' IS REALLY TRUE.
Description of Work: WE ORDERED A REFRIGERATOR FROM GRANTS. WHEN IT WAS DELIVERED IT WAS DENTED, SO WE REFUSED DELIVERY. CALLED AND TALKED TO THE MANAGER AND HE SAID THAT THEY WERE GETTING MORE IN THE NEXT DAY AND THEY COULD DELIVER A NEW ONE ON THURSDAY. THURSDAY COMES, NO REFRIGERATOR. APPARENTLY, I WAS LIED TO. HAD TO WAIT ANOTHER WEEK FOR A NEW ONE TO BE DELIVERED. WE HAD TO LIVE WITHOUT A REFRIGERATOR FOR A WEEK, SINCE THEY TOOK AWAY THE OLD ONE ON THEIR FIRST VISIT. WHEN THE REFRIGERATOR WAS DELIVERED, THEY DID NOT PUT THE HANDLES ON, LEVEL IT OR EVEN PLUG IT IN. JUST DUMPED IT AND RAN.
