The project went very well. Don and his crew were on time, did a thorough job, and were very responsive to any concerns or questions we had.
Description of Work: An inspection had turned up some lead paint issues in our home. Don was very professional and gave us a thorough review of the issues, what he suggested be done, and we come up with a plan for accomplishing it. He was very flexible and very accommodating - a true professional.

Superbly. I am convinced that Don was one of a few people who helped save my family's health from Lead. He was generous with his information even before we hired him. He took the initiative to talk to the neighbors and the neighboring contractor before I even hired him, as the situation looked so incredibly inappropriate and unsafe. He also insisted that we get tested (by another firm) before he would provide abatement services. I am VERY grateful for that advice, as there was a possibility that I was going to not take the situation as seriously as it merited. The lead levels found in areas near the neighboring house were absolutely lethal. Don and his crew seemed to do a very thorough job abating the lead. This Thanksgiving this company is one of a couple that I am so thankful for. They might just have been doing their job and taking it seriously, but in my mind they also protected my family, especially my children who are the most vulnerable to lead dust. Take lead seriously. It is absolutely poison in so many ways and NO LEVEL IS SAFE. If you have concerns, hire this company to clean it up! And, good luck with it.

I would give him very high marks in this regard as compared to most of the other companies that we had contact with in this lead abatement area. My rating for him is excellent. Jim Donovan
Description of Work: Don Bailey is a very good guy. He attended to our needs very quickly and was flexible in dealing with the issue that we had with regard to lead abatement on a property that we own in the city of Chicago. I also like the fact that he was able to come back quickly and do some further clean-up as required and worked closely with the inspector, Edward Topp, the "lead man" to make sure that this issue was properly addressed.

Not only did he respond but he picked up the phone when I called which was a first. We made an appointment and he stuck to it. He was quick about getting his estimates together, he didn't waste a lot of time. I have confidence that if we go with him he will be ale to do it right.

Don Bailey, the owner, completed the majority of the work himself, with help from one or two employees. Don was extremely courteous when giving us an estimate. He was more than willing to talk through our options and help us figure out how best to proceed. The work was done in a timely manner and with utmost care. Don was very careful about following lead mitigation procedures (something that we have found other licensed lead abatement specialists do not always do!) and always left things very clean. He was also always very kind and patient with our 2-year old son. We were very pleased with all of the work that Don did and have since hired him again for some demolition work in areas with lead paint. It has been a pleasure to work with Don and we highly recommend him to anyone who has to deal with lead paint removal and mitigation.
Description of Work: We hired DPB Abatement Services to mitigate and abate several areas of lead paint in our 100-year old condo. They (i) abated the lead from about 10 double-hung window sashes, wells and jambs and repainted them, (ii) mitigated two larger windows and repainted them, (iii) removed a lead-painted radiator, abated the lead off-site and re-painted it; (iv) abated the lead on an old clawfoot bathtub and repainted it and (v) skim-coated (repaired and painted) all cracks and holes in our pantry.

However, he said that he would 1) contact a friend of his who would be able to assist with some carpentry work that needs to be done in conjunction with the lead paint abatement and 2) would get back to me with estimates that pertained to his part. Neither of these ever occurred. I called HIM back after a week and asked if he contacted his friend, at which point, he said that he found out that the friend no longer does that work. He again said he would get his estimates to me, and never did. Also, his suggestion for removing the lead paint was wet scraping, and when I asked about a common product that is on the market and available at paint stores that is less toxic than the chemicals used now to remove lead paint (Peel Away), he knew nothing about it, nor did he know anything about the soy gel lead paint removers that are often advertised on Angie's List. I was really hoping for a better experience after reading the prior reviews for DPB.
Description of Work: Don came out to our home to give me an estimate and suggestions on how to deal with lead paint issues. He spent time looking at everything and answered some questions that I had.

The price was similar to another estimate I received. I ended up going with a different company that seemed to specialize in asbestos removal. This company seemed to specialized in lead paint removal.

I am disabled and have been going through surgeries so most of my contract with Don was over the phone and he was a very fine man to work with.
Description of Work: I had lead paint on all of the house, trim and garage. His crew did a beautiful job of removing, priming, and putting a two new coats of paint on it.

Don's attitude and work ethic are outstanding -- if only all contractors were so willing to make sure that you are 100% satisfied! He and his staff helped mitigate a lengthly list of lead paint issues in our vintage condo under extremely short time constraints. They worked long hours, as well as over both days of a weekend, in order to accomodate my family's schedule. That alone would be worth high marks, but Don consistently demonstrated that he was willing to go the extra mile, always answering a question about "oh, and can we address this?" with an unqualified "Yes", even though we might not have noticed the issue before the contract was signed and work began, and never with an extra increase in cost. Thank you, Don!

Everything went well. Don's cost and schedule estimates were right on. We did have some growth in the project since we decided to remove more lead surfaces than originally planned on, but there was no increase from Don's quotes. Per the contract, they will continue to clean until all signs of lead dust are removed (as verified by an independent lead inspector). Don's team even went above and beyond by cleaning up paint chips left over by a contractor working in another part of our house.
Description of Work: Removed basement walls and ceiling that were found to have high levels of lead paint on them. Cleaned all dust from area of removal. Washed all surfaces and contained non-removed lead paint areas with fresh paint. Performed follow-up cleaning until all signs of lead dust were gone (per independent inspector).

I called Don Bailey in the middle of the day on Saturday. He was over to do an estimate within hours (I have a two-year-old, and an ongoing room renovation so I was anxious to get started). He gave me an estimate the next day. Got to work on Monday, the window was ready to be installed on Tuesday. The recut window pane did not fit correctly in the newly reassembled window sash. Don came back the next day, and worked with my contractor to fix it. You really can't ask for more than that. I plan to work with Don again.
Description of Work: Performed lead abatement on an large, old window at very short notice. He disassembled the window, abated the portions in place, brought the window to his shop and abated the rest there. Reinstalled it the next day. While he was at it, he replaced a damage window pane with a newly recut piece of glass.

When we purchased our new home we had much work to do before we could move in with our twin one year olds. Of all the contractors we hired, Mr. Bailey was the most responsible, responsive, professional, caring, and attentive. He seemed personally vested in making our home safe for our very young children and 4 pets. He worked diligently, skillfully and expediently. He was anxious to resolve all the lead hazards uncovered in our home as well as other problems he discovered so we could move in on schedule. Not only did Mr. Bailey complete the contracted work but, when I contacted him later after discovering additional hazards that were not in the inspection report he returned promptly to correct them with no additional charge. He even visited a rental property our family owns when asbestos tile was discovered. He corrected that issue as well. And he did all of this in a fashion that was beyond our expectations and was drastically more affordable than his competitors one competitor quoted us $22,000! We are extremely grateful to have found Mr. Bailey and owe the health and safety of our family to him.
Description of Work: Our new home had lead paint hazards on 21 windows and the balcony supports. Mr. Bailey personally came to our home, evaluated the hazards, provided an estimate, uninstalled all windows, removed all hazardous paint, reinstalled all windows, and removed all hazardous paint from the balcony and repainted it. Mr. Bailey discovered additional issues with some of our windows and window frames they are original windows in our 1888 home. He repaired all of them with no additional charge for labor and minimal cost for parts.

Before deciding to use DPB Abatement, I checked references. One of the references told me that they did good work "removing the lead paint and cleaning, but he would not hire them again to do the actual re-painting." I agree. For instance, they started by painting over wall outlet covers. They painted the wood around the outdoor windows but missed one because the screen was down. Things were not followed up effectively and it took longer than expected. If anything, use DPB to REMOVE lead paint ... but hire a different painter to re-paint.
Description of Work: Removal of lead paint around windows (indoor and out), door hinges, painted over areas where lead paint was found.

Response from DPB ABATEMENT SERVICES
Every now and then you run across someone who can never ever be satisfied, no matter how much you bend over backwards. This client received over $800.00 worth of free labor and wanted more. In my estimation, they got the deal of the century, enough said.

Don Bailey of DPB Abatement Services did a very thorough job of getting rid of lead. We had a hard time locating a lead reduction company, but we're glad we finally found this one. He was very professional and courteous. He was also neat. I know this company works on radon and mold as well as lead. I don't remember what we paid him.
Description of Work: He came and tested our house for lead. He then stripped out paint from the windows, cleaned and chipped out lead wherever it was detected.
