I had a very bad experience with him. He only put one coat of stain on the deck. He did not mask the color of the rust on the railings as requested. There's a completely ugly blast color that he put under that. He did not scrape the rot off the door and put wood fillings as he was contracted to do, he only covered it up. He only covered up half of the rot and the other portion of it was left as it was. He repainted the entire door in a bright ceiling white yet the house is tan. The door was originally tan. We had to go back and redo all that work and that's how we found out he did not do the work. We even called him to give him a chance to redo the work. All the while, we thought he was the one doing the work. He had subcontracted the work and claimed he did not see any of that. He said he had done all that he was contracted to do.
Description of Work: He was supposed to restain the deck. He was supposed to scrape off the rot and repaint the interior.

From the begining, I had requested a contract. Materials were ordered prior to the contract being signed. Carebears, LLC asked for a check for materials, which I then requested the contract. Our first initial check for $300 was picked up at our residence, however, the contractor did not leave the contract, which then left me suspicious. A week or so passed and he started calling my wife for another check, still no contract. After I expressed my concern, a contract was finally delivered and I paid him the rest of the amount for the material. Lumber was delivered on May 8 with no regard to where it should be placed. It was placed on the right side of my garage, where a driveway addition was to be constructed, so my wife and I had to move it all by hand to the back yard. Several boards, balusters and 3 sets of steps were removed and thrown haphazardly in a pile for me to then pound down the nails, cut to smaller pieces and transport to curb for disposal. In addition, 1 set of stairs and a bench was removed that was to remain, and now needs to be replaced. Friday, May 9, 2014 it had rained until approximately 10 am. Carebears never came over or called to begin work after it stopped raining. I then had to move the lumber a second time to the deck to prevent the grass from dying. Monday, May 12, 2014, I called Carebears in the afternoon to see if they were going to start. Contractor said no, they had other work and didn't want to come "and have to walk 12 miles" because the driveway wasn't finished. I stated that that was fine, but that he should communicate with his customers to let them know when he would be back. I also stated to him that he was the only contractor to not work on Saturdays, if work was backed up due to weather. He agreed to come back on Thursday, May 15, 2014. He called me back 5 minutes later and stated "this wasn't going to work out with him and the deck" and that "you have trust issues" and quit. I recieved a bill from Carebears in the amount of $253.78, including charging me for 2 men to compile a materials list, 2 men to go to the store to order it and for tearing a few boards and steps from my deck. On May 29, 2014, I mailed a letter to the contractor detailing the issues with the project and a check in the amount of $40.72, deducting a %15 military discount, which he advertised and we discussed, $150.00 for removing the stairs and bench, which was never discussed to be removed and now needs to be replaced, and $25.00 for having to move the lumber twice; all which was discussed in the letter. On June 4, 2014 around 830 pm I recieved 3 text messages from the contractor, telling me "not to be cute...and it will cost you much, much more in legal fees", along with threatening to have a lien put on my house. I finally had to tell him to stop texting me or I was going to call the police. Why should I have to pay him the rest of the amount, when I now have to pay someone else to fix his mistakes!
Description of Work: Carebears, LLC compiled a materials list, ordered the material (lumber), had the material delivered to address and removed several boards from our deck, including balusters for the railing, 3 sets of steps and a bench. 1 set of steps and the bench was not to be included in the project.
