SCHARM FLOOR COVERING

He was there on time for the assessment. His price was okay. We hired a regular contractor that was referred to us to do the remodeling.

Horrible. I was left hanging and then made to feel like I was expecting too much. Took my business elsewhere.

The workers were professional. They carefully moved the stove and refrigerator, installed new tiles and put everything back. I am pleased with the result and the way the work was done and completed.

Mr. Scharm visited our home to inspect the carpeting problems, described in detail what should be done to correct them, and left us with his estimate. We agreed on a date and his repair technician finished the work within the estimated time. That included fixing a small problem not seen until the day he arrived. All the problems were eliminated and the appearance of the carpeting is excellent. We are very happy with both the workmanship and the price.

Fred came out and gave us an estimate, he seemed knowledgeable and after a month of thinking about it, we went to his showroom to go over the proposal in detail and see the actual laminate product and at that time we decided to move forward and put down a 50% deposit in mid-July. We were informed a few days later that the stair nosing piece was on backorder and they would let us know when it was in to schedule installation. In late August we got the call that they had the material and they told us when they were coming, which after that much time, they should have asked if that worked for us. It did not and we had to then wait a few days to hear back and reschedule for the around 9/12/12. It was supposed to be a 2 day project. After day 1, the installers told us they didn't have enough material to complete the job and would have to come back a 3rd day. Considering we took off work, etc. it was inconvenient, but workable. The next day the installers came back and put in what they could. They did not clean up well after themselves at all. A razor blade was left on my windowsill where my animals and child could have easily accessed it, if we had not been diligent. This also caused us to more thoroughly examine the work in place. There were definite concerns and we spoke with Fred and he came out to address the concerns. He wrote down everything I told him, however I didn't get any real feeling of caring about the quality of work or safety issue. The installers ended up coming back on a Saturday for day 3 and if they had worked as h****** the previous 2 days they had been there, they could have definitely done a better job. They addressed some of my concerns. When they finished they were supposed to make sure I was happy with the finished product. That didn't happen. No one ever called, followed up, nothing. We got the final bill about a month later and I just paid it. There are a few spots they did not fill that they should have. At the very top of my stairs, there is a spot that feels like they didn't put underlayment in, which is weird, but I'm not sure what would be done about that now. The installers had cut the carpet back way too far at the transitions to the bedrooms and the transitions don't cover the edge of the carpet which is now starting to unravel. Fred had offered to send out a carpet stretcher although he and quot;hadn't budgeted thatand quot;, but frankly I don't want their people in my house anymore and we plan on replacing the carpet within the next year anyway. I mostly like the finished product, but there are definitly things that should have been done better. I had high hopes from all of the great reviews on this company and sadly I am disappointed. Of course no project goes perfectly, but things were poorly communicated, hurried in the end and should have been handled differently and with more care.

The price was not as big of an issue as was the fact that the provider we chose provided a dumpster and removed all of the carpeting and tack strips. Scharm's policy is to put old product at the curb and we would have had to pay to have it removed. That was the biggest difference and we didn't want to deal with it so we chose another provider. I believe the completed project would have been satisfactory and of equal quality.

We would absolutely use them again.

Fred himself came out to do an estimate. He was right on time and very professional. The 2 men that came to do the job also were right on time and courteous. They even helped straighted some carpet wrinkles out in a few areas too. Recommend them!

This job was a bit daunting because of the poor quality of previous work, the necessity of moving stove and fridge, and the 'irregularities' of our house. Two seasoned veteran installers got the old stuff out and put the new in. It took a couple days longer than the three the owner had estimated but every evening we could use the refrigerator and stove, and the final results are a huge improvement. I was especially thankful for the way the transitions from tile to hard wood and from tile to carpet and stairs were finished. I have been surprised already how comparatively 'soft' the hard wood is and would probably have bought something harder had I been counseled in that direction. I also wish the installers had used putty that more nearly matched the wood color when filling unavoidable nail holes. Scharm's free estimate was several hundred dollars above the two other estimates I got--one of which I paid for--but I am glad I hired Scharm because at no extra cost they skillfully tackled some challenging problems that came to light when the old floors were removed. I was also given credit for the removal and replacement of furniture that had been priced on the initial estimate. The estimate was sufficiently detailed and clear that I knew what I was getting. The installers were very accommodating and did several little extras. I would gladly use this firm again, although the goal of spending so much money is that I won't have to do so any time soon!

The installation was done as promised on a timely basis .All in all I was very pleased and would use Scharm again and will tell my frineds and neighbors about my positive experience. Luann was very helpful and accomodating and Fred was very professional giving attention to every detail of the proposal that was presented. I particularly liked his line item approach which spelled out exactly what the charge was for each item.don

Promptly provided estimate, called when materials ordered became available, came out and performed the work on time, quickly and by very professional workmen. A hassle free experience!

I walked into showroom and met LouAnn(spelling?). She was extremely polite talked me through the whole process, all of the options I had for not only the carpeting, but padding, and installation. She even worked up a rough guess just based on my description, and she was only off by 4.33 sq yds! While price wasn't a big concern for me, she was willing to go through all of the carpet weight and other options if I needed to hit a target price. Later that same day, I got a call from Mr. Fred Scharm to set-up a time for measuring. He came out right on time, was very polite, and quickly measured everything, and answered a bunch of questions from me as well. They asked for a 50% deposit to schedule the installation, which I gave them, and scheduled the install the next week. (They said 7-10 days initially, it was only four I think in my case). Vince and his son John came out to install it, they were very polite, very detailed, and simply did an amazing job. I couldn't be happier.

The overall experience was good. I would use them again. There was one workman who was trying to cut a corner and I didn't like that. I did end up getting what was contracted for. They had lined items that spelled out exactly everything they were going to do. They were really, really thorough. I wanted things done right the first time. I would use this company again.

A great experience from start to finish. I was able to get an estimate quickly, and schedule the work right away. Vince and John did a wonderful job restretching some of my carpet, as well as repairing damaged areas throughout the house. For a couple of tricky damaged areas, Vince came up with good ideas that worked well. I will definitely use Scharm again.

Everything done on time per contract. Even included a door mat free of charge from leftover material.

From start to finish everything was very professional. Quick and easy I received a quote right after the inspection of the area. I was called to schedule installation right away. This only took a few days. I would highly recommend them!

They were flexible and rescheduled a couple of appointments. They did a very good job with carpet cleaning and the person, who measured for new carpets, was very knowledgeable. I liked their services and will use the same in future.

Well done. Took longer than anticipated but no extra charge. Good quality. Cleaned up well. Hauled debris away.

I had three companies come out for estimates and Mr. Scharm impressed me the most because I had told all three that I knew very little about flooring and wanted something that was not top of the line but was not cheap either, somewhere between. The other two showed up with clipboards but Mr. Scharm came out with flooring samples and colors for the front room that helped me to see what I would be getting and paying for. I could see immediately that the really cheap stuff was not what I wanted and settled on a middle range of the products he brought out. All three bids were almost identical in cost but it was really his presentation that impressed me so I went with him. I had to go into the store to pick out the tile and carpeting and the lady at the store, Luanne, was most helpful. I gave them a downpayment and it was several weeks before she called me back to say the material had arrived and the installers would be out the following week. The two workers were terrific. I had been a little concerned that they contracted out the work but Mr. Scharm had said they were people he had used for a long time. I was there two out of the four days and the two guys who did the flooring attended strictly to business and the results were great. My only problem was that I had not been told that the carpet person came out separately which upon reflection I probably should have realized myself but I was not really expecting that but it turned out ok about a week later two carpet guys came out and did a great job in just a few hours. I had no trouble giving this company a key to my house for the two days I had to be at work. The floor installers rolled up the old carpeting and tied it up and put it in the alley as the village had told me had to be done in order for them to pick it up. One of the installers even went to Menards and bought a small piece to put over my vent. He did not have to do that and I paid him what it had cost him but I thought it was very nice. Overall I would use these people again in a heartbeat and recommend them to anyone.

Besides a slight misunderstanding on the start date that was resolved quickly, everything went fine. The bulk of the work was done by a sub-contractor who was very thorough and professional. Scharm's crew did the tear out and installed the baseboard and shoe. The result is an excellent looking red oak floor.

Scharm was recommended to me by a co-worker. I liked their big showroom when I first went to check them out. The ladies in the store were very helpful and responsive if I had questions. They were attentive but not pushy in getting me to make a decision. They came out to measure promptly and I decided to move forward with the installation. I was not as happy with the installation process. The two guys doing the installation showed up 30 minutes early, and did not provide any identification that they were with Scharm. They only said they were the carpet guys there to install the carpet. Their vehicle didn't have any Scharm id on it either. In the end, I am very happy with my new carpet and the staff at the store. I would consider using them again but might ask for a different installation crew if they have one. I did give Scharm feedback afterwards so they would know of my concerns.
