It went great! (see above)
Description of Work: We experienced a flood in our new condo (new to us, built in the '70s) 4 days after moving in. After everything was dry and repaired, we needed to find someone to come in and save our carpeting. Fred arrived (on time) to give me the lowest of three estimates. The flood being in a hallway, had been necessary to lift it and have fans under it from 4 different locations and there was a seam in the middle of the mess. The carpet tacking strips needed replaced, then the carpet "re-stretched". If this could be accomplished, then they would have to deal with the brown water spotting on the white carpet. Vince at Scharm re-laid the carpet perfectly, and Morrie at Scharm just left my home and after an excellent cleaning challenge the carpet looks amazing! Thanks Scharm!!!
They were prompt and professional and did great work. I was debating going with one of the"big box" stores but Scharm's prices were competitive and they had much better quality products. The added bonus was the friendliness and professionalism of the whole team, from the front office to the installers. The installers have been with the company for years and it shows in the great job they did; plus, I felt I could trust them to be in my place when I was gone. I'm so glad I went with Scharm - they have earned their high rating.
Description of Work: They ripped out old wood flooring (which they had to use a jackhammer for due to the developer gluing the wood directly to the cement floor), as well as carpet. The new wood flooring and carpet look fantastic!

We've used many contractors during our 3-year long construction process and few rival the responsiveness, quality, timeliness, and care that Scharm Floor Covering provides. They call back right away, respond to emails within a day, come out quickly to provide estimates, and take the time to really get to know the project and what we are looking for. We are very picky customers, with quality design interests, and Scharm has exceeded our expectations. Luanne, who has been our primary contact around proposals, is friendly, quick to respond, and shows a genuine interest and knowledge of each project. Fred, the owner, really knows the tile and floor business and understood our vision, despite it's complexity (and our periodic uncertainty). He also went out of his way on several occasions, just to bring us samples when we were deciding on tiles. Mike, who installed our stone tile, "finger-laced" each small stone around a column so that our cooktop backsplash is now picture worthy. (And each person who came out cleaned up as if they hadn't been there.) Thanks to everyone for your hard work and we look forward to the next project!
Description of Work: Installation of cork flooring, stone tile on a floor-to-celing column, and glass tile backsplash.

They came out and gave me an estimate for the work which was pretty much in line with the email estimate. I scheduled the work. They would have been able to start that week but for my convenience (there's only one bathroom, I scheduled the work a week out). They came on schedule and after tearing out the floor, they said the subfloor was wet from a recent leak but not damaged and did not need to be replaced saving me some money. They put some fans in to dry it and completed the job in three days as planned.
Description of Work: I emailed Scharm for a ballpark estimate on installing a ceramic floor in a bathroom. It involved taking a claw foot tub out along with the toilet, a tear out of the existing floor and replacing the sub floor which I had been told was rotten. I chose to purchase the tile myself.

I thought they did an excellent job. There were complications so it cost more than estimated, but they did warn me that there might be complications. They were on time, professional in their work and cleaned up very well.
Description of Work: They removed an old tile floor and installed a new one.
They showed up on time to do the work. They didn't charge any extra when they found out the job was a little harder then they thought it would be. They cleaned up very well.
Description of Work: They ripped out the old carpet and installed hardwood flooring.

I hadn't ever had to buy carpet before, but things went very well overall with just a few snags. The employee's help in the showroom was the best part, once they knew what type/texture of carpet I was looking for, they selected the perfect color from some fabric samples I brought in, on the first try. They let me know that the brand I picked was about to go on sale and suggested I wait until then to place my order. Granted, the cost overall was higher than if I'd gone to one of the heavily-advertised places on TV, but I felt like they really knew what they were doing. The person who measured prior to installation was also able to give me good advice on some other flooring issues I have at home. At installation, there was a delay due to a manufacturing defect; this caused me to miss work twice instead of once but it wasn't their fault. The young guys who installed the carpet were just a bit on the unprofessional side (seemed like they forgot I was within earshot while they were there) but they did a good job. My main complaint during the entire process was that they had limited hours, for the showroom, measuring, and installation (no or limited evenings/weekends). Since I work during business hours, I ended up having to miss work to do everything. But overall, a very good experience and we're really happy with our new carpet.
Description of Work: They helped me choose carpet for two rooms and a hallway, came out to measure, then installed the carpet.

The job is very professional and is exactly as promised. The first bid I got (which involved tearing out the existing flooring) was for $2,400 which was too high for my old 12x15 foot kitchen. Apparently it is acceptable and to code to have two layers of flooring in the kitchen. The job took one day, a tear-out would have been a two day ordeal. Old-fashioned linoleum is a green product (it's made of linseed oil) that has a wonderful, homey look to it.
Description of Work: I had previously chosen and gotten a bid on linoleum (Marmoleum) at another store. I checked the flooring manufacturer's website for other dealers, which included Scharm. Based on Angie's List, I called Scharm and asked them to come and give me a quote. Fred Scharm came out at a convenient time and was quite pleasant. He suggested saving money by installing the linoleum over my existing (very worn but well installed) sheet vinyl rather than first tearing it and the sub flooring out. They scheduled the install at our preferred time and did the job quite nicely.
This was one of the last steps in updating my kitchen which had started six months earlier. My entire experience with Scharm Flooring was a delight. All the personnel were so pleasant and helpful. The entire floor project went smoothly and with no problems. The work was perfect. I recommend this company for all your flooring needs whether it be carpet, hardwoods, stone or vinyl.
Description of Work: Fred came to my home to measure my floor, make suggestions on procedure and price the tile and installation. Audrey assisted me in choosing the correct products and colors. Steve installed the tiles, grout, and toe kick.

Both the owner who did the quote and the people who did the installation were pleasant to deal with and very competent. My only real complaint is that I wish they had told me a little more about how to maintain the floor and about the installation process. We thought it was going to be a little different than it was.
Description of Work: Old linoleum removed, subfloor was improved and new marmoleum floor installed with a contrasting border.

Called Scharm 9/26 for estimate, Fred came 10/2, Luanne faxed proposal 10/3. Re-stretching scheduled for 10/10. Painters did interior painting 10/9-10/12 and asked if I could change re-stretching to later date. Luanne and Audrey at Scharm worked with Fred to reschedule to 10/13. Rick and Bill, both very skilled and good natured, brought specialized tools and spent 5 hours on 10/13. Did awesome job re-stretching. Ridges eliminated, excess carpet/padding trimmed off. I had no idea this could be done so successfully with older carpet. No damage to baseboards! Carpet cleaner Morry rearranged schedule at short notice for me. He worked 8am-5pm 10/17 with his own steam cleaning equipment. Went over every area twice with special attention to spots and high traffic areas. He helped move furniture, supplied blocks and plastic for under furniture until carpets dried. He was friendly and hard working. Carpets look almost new! Cleaning restored cushion of carpet and removed furniture impressions. Great job!
Description of Work: In preparation for putting my house up for sale (with a tight schedule), I had approximately 1290 square feet of wall-to-wall carpeting (5 rooms plus 4 closets) re-stretched and then cleaned. This was the original carpeting in the house, and it had buckled and developed ridges over time (due to being insufficiently stretched when first installed). Decided this would be less expensive than new flooring. The entire interior of the house had just been painted, including white semi-gloss on all baseboards. Fred Scharm came to my house to prepare an estimate. Sub-contractors Rick and Bill did the re-stretching, working together for about 5 hours. Sub-contractor Morry did the cleaning a few days later, spending a full 8 or 9 hours. Rick, Bill, and Morry helped my husband and me move a lot of furniture (some quite heavy) as each room was worked on--the moving was included in the estimate.

The company uses subs. Bill was very skilled at his job - the carpet patch was fixed very well and the seam barely shows - wouldn't show but for the slight color difference due to carpet aging. The price was a little bit on the higher side (3 hr minimum was charged), but worth it. Bill had a helper join him, and the two of them completed the job in an hour to hour and a half. It would have been very difficult to do on my own, especially looking at the specialized tools they had which made the job more professional.
Description of Work: Patched up a piece of carpeting in a closet and restretched the carpet in the master bedroom. I had some spare carpet that the builder had left behind, and Bill had to tear out the bad carpet, and patch it from this spare piece (had to measure and patch two pieces).

(Scharm did the work last December, but I just joined Angie's list, so that's the reason for the delay). Anyway, we are very pleased with the quality of the work and attention to detail. I thought Fred and his staff went out of their way to make sure we were completely satisfied. One thing I liked was that Fred gave me an itemized estimate, so I could see what each component of the job would cost. None of the other companies I contacted seemed willing to do this. I was able to save a few hundred dollars by doing a few things myself like removing the old carpet and vinyl tiles and removing and resetting the baseboard.
