I wasn't pleased with him. He was an electrician and he gave me the 2 hours but then he didn't do all that and he had to come back. And that was another couple of hundred dollars. And I feel he could have done what he did the first time without coming back. He came back and charged me almost the same amount the second time. He could have done what he was supposed to do in 2 hours instead of 4 or 5 hours.

Chris was an ultimate professional, and did quality work- he was up front that his fees are a bit higher, but he did extras that many electricians would not have done- he is very conscious of meeting codes and taking the safety of the homeowner into great consideration. He found 3 giant birds nest in our attic when he went to install the first ceiling fan. He discussed the health consequences of having dead birds in the attic, and probably saved the health of my husband who is asthmatic. Chris is an asset to angies list and to his company, we would recommend him in an instant!! Mr and Mrs B.
Description of Work: Installed 4 ceiling fans, installed all new electrical circuits and switches, capped off exposed wires in attic, installed new long lasting bathroom bulbs and cleaned fixtures, estimate given for more work that was missed by our home inspector - drew our attention to large birds nests in our attic that would pose a health risk to my husband who is asthmatic- inspector had missed them at inspection

Having closed only months ago, I am pretty sure that Birds nest was [Member Name Removed] few generations old. I'm glad we were able to find it, in his defense, the inspector would've had to go 70 some odd feet into the attic. Your attic is [Member Name Removed] belly crawl through and through, so to install each of your four fans and the raceway/ wires from scratch as we did, start to finish, would run about $1200 per fan – if done by code, and with quality. So we probably save you about 50% by staying on the clock for all 4- making it positive for both of us. Please keep us in mind if you have any electrical needs in the future, including the exhaust fan wiring. I will be more than happy to go back up and reset it to code too, if you can't work anything out with the inspectors insurance.

Chris was fantastic. He showed up on time and would have been early had we been available. We wanted to update some outlets in our kitchen to GFCI because our home inspector told us to do so but as soon as Chris walked in he explained why that was completely unnecessary given their location. He said he'd absolutely do it if we wanted to but told us there was no reason to waste $80 on the fixtures. I really appreciated his candor and knowledge on the issue. He then quickly replaced an old outlet on our deck and walked me through what he did, why he did it, and what I should expect going forward. Overall it was a great experience and he was in and out in less than 30 minutes. He even gave me some free advice about our smoke detectors that he noticed as he was walking out. I will absolutely call him again if I ever need any other electrical work done.

Thank you for the nice review. One of the code requirements regarding GFCI's is that they be installed within 6 feet of the leading-edge of water – those 2 did not qualify. The smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years, please feel free to call us when you purchase them.

Chris and Jazlene arrived right on time. First they looked at everything we wanted done and patiently explained our options. Chris & Jazlene were very friendly, professional and hard working. Chris even pointed out that some of our existing electrical work was previously installed incorrectly and could pose a safety hazard. He immediately took care of those issues. They were here several hours and when finished for the day, Chris again patiently explained everything he and Jazlene had done. We were very pleased. We already have scheduled another appointment in May for three (3) other projects. We highly recommend Handyman & Sons.
Description of Work: Chris and his able assistant, Jazlene repaired our existing under cabinet lighting; replaced two (2) track lighting strips with new light fixtures; installed a new light in the furnace room; and connected an outdoor electric receptacle to an indoor on/off switch.

You called us out to check on the short in your bathroom, everything in your bathroom was not up to code, as I informed you. The mold was so thick in your bathroom, that for the first time, I wore booties in the house to protect my boots. I am licensed and insured, and come with a conscience. I will try desperately to focus on berivity, my apprentice refused to go in one of the bedrooms that was literally covered in dog fecal matter, and I respected her judgment call, as we bring the same ladders into other peoples homes that don't live in the type of squalor you do. Your 19-year-old sons room was covered in mouse droppings, bugs, and food that look like it'd been there since last year. You should be ashamed you're raising your child in that type of environment, and had he been under 18, I may have been inclined to call DCFS. Your attic was littered with dead mice, I have had to get a new cover all that I use in attics, I suggest you to the house down, and start over.

Mr. Walsh and an apprentice arrived on time. He provided an evaluation of recent electrical jobs we had done and other information about matters such as building electrical codes. He said he inspects electrical equipment and functioning in buildings before purchase.
Description of Work: This was a Big Deal purchased through Angie's List. Provider updated one indoor electrical outlet and one outdoor outlet He also replaced bulbs in garage, overhead door opener lights and entrance outdoor light with LED bulbs. The deal was for $127.00. The 4 LED bulbs and other materials cost $74.07.

Chris was working on a job prior to my appointment but ended up being late to my appointment. He tried his best to communicate his status to me before the appointment to give me some warning and did apologize. It was a non-issue after the work was performed. As for the work, it was performed on a home that we were in the process of selling. The prospective buyer's home inspector found a GFCI outlet that was not working and would not reset. Chris replaced it with a new GFCI outlet. Chris vacuumed up loose insulation debris that had fallen into the electrical panel and also plugged up a knockout hole in the panel. Chris came across as being knowledgeable about his work and puts safety and correct methodologies at the top of his work priority list.

Chris was extremely knowledgeable about how to find and fix my problems. Chris also explained everything that he was doing and did not mind that I asked a bunch of questions wanting to learn as much as I could also. He was also very quick and thorough. Chris also had an apprentice (Jess) with him. While Chris was doing something in one part of the house Jess was working on something else. Chris was keeping an eye on her work while she was checking in with him about what she was doing. The communication between them was excellent. It seems that Chris has more than one apprentice that he works with. I really like that he is teaching others on the job with him. There is nothing like hands on training. There are not to many companies that do that anymore. With Chris' knowledge I have no doubt that Jess will also be a very good electrician. I will definitely use Chris and who he comes with again.

I already got most of the outlets changed before i request service from this provider. There were couple of outlets which could have been completed, but the time taken to debug one of the outlet was more as there was a cable wrongly wired in the past and had current in it. He was doing his best to understand the why that one line was having current. The earlier provider also spent more time in identifying the same stuff. I shared the information as soon as he entered the house. Basically I ended up paying twice for the same information for that particular outlet. One good thing that happened was the replacement of two GFCI compliant outlets. Also he suggested to order the old fan motor instead of changing the entire fan kit. I feel more could have been achieved for the two hours. He was very informative on each task and explained issues related to microwave outlet installation which i liked much. Thank you for your service.

The provider was professional and very responsive. He was on time and the quality of work was excellent. What I especially appreciated was his concern for my family's safety. Thank you for the nice review, unfortunately, I work seven days a week often. However, flames electricity will get you bumped to the front of the line on an emergency basis all the time. We installed and arc fault receptacle, So in the future, if an unsafe spark ever produces again, it will turn that receptacle off automatically- it is a great safety feature.

Chris spent four (4!) hours on Valentine's Day (!) in our house reversing about a half of all of the house electrical outlets. He did a very professional work for us. Top marks. I?m very happy with the results.Chris was about 2 hours late, but it?s completely understandable: he received an emergencycall at that day. Emergency calls should go first, so we have no complaints. Chris thank you very much!

I have used Handyman and Sons for electrical work on more than one occasion, and have been extremely satisfied with their service. Of all the contractors I have ever used, Handyman and Sons has given the clearest and most detailed descriptions of what needed to be done and the ways in which it could be done. Where there have been options, they have explained them clearly and made recommendations, but never with pressure. They have gone so far as to provide - unsolicited - clear, understandable labeling of unusual outlets, junctions and circuits that will make life easier not just for me, but for subsequent owners as well. Handyman and Sons is terrific!

Thank you for the nice review, I am trying to work with the county on the additional issues that you have. They make it profoundly difficult, mostly, in the requirements of having to go downtown to pull the additional paperwork. I offered to go to the one in Skokie, which is a cook County building, however, they require it to be the downtown location. Working 7 days a week often, it will be very challenging.

Actually, simply describing what I'm doing, while I'm doing it, does not slow me down at all, it merely develops an apprentice to do things exactly like I do them. The apprentice makes no less than a dozen trips to the truck - Often 2 to 5 times that. There is no way any trades-person can bring in everything he or she needs in one trip. I have personally had trades people go to and from the truck for one item on my clock time. I knocked a 1/2 hour off because you expressed concern. Even my new people have a working knowledge of where everything is at on the truck, saving each customer no less then a 1/2 hr each stop - that is on my clock -but save theirs. Still, I'm sorry you were not 100% satisfied, it was a big job.

You booked the end of December. You Called me to cancel this Thursday's appointment on Tuesday. We responded in a timely manner to get you on the schedule, and your day requirements dictated your placement on the schedule. I had offered you several days including several weekend days that you declined. Still, I'm sorry it was a negative experience, that is not my goal. I am currently working on hiring another journeyman electrician, however, it is a full-time job in and of itself, In addition, the background checks that I personally like to perform, and the drug tests, often screen out the best candidates. Please know that I am working on reducing my schedule time, but it's been challenging getting my equal that I trust in my customers houses, and to work under my license and insurance safely. I am a type a contractor that looks to save your money, not spend it, if you would've read it very large majority of my reviews indicate that. I hope you are equally successful, and you find another contractor to meet your needs, again I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you experienced.

That went very well. I think that describing themselves as being able to handle electrical work, was probably a bit over enthusiastic, because what they did for us, was work on a door. That worked out very well. But the electrical work, no. For handyman services they did fine. Specifically for electrical work I would probably get a licensed electrician. And as a matter of fact, now that I'm remembering the details better, I know what they did. They did the door, but that wasn't the main thing. The main thing they did, was that they hung a picture for us on our fireplace. And we're very happy with what they did with that. We called, they came, they were here on time, all of that worked out well. Again, if you're talking specifically about electrical work, not so good. But with the other stuff that they ended up doing, I would give them an A on that.

I'm sorry that you're not 100% satisfied. I am licensed and insured, that is why I couldn't perform the work, there are very specific requirements set forth by the national electric code that I simply don't question, so I often disagree with them too. Please try to understand that there are reasons why codes are required, I do not set them, but I do have to follow them.

No response so Angies List is reimbursing me for the deal and I hired someone else. Nice to save money on a deal but I would rather pay full price and have someone that is responsive.
