Licensed and Insured Electrician. We accept all forms of payment. We troubleshoot electrical problems, and install new circuits and devices - no job too small or large. We are available 7 days a week at no extra charge. We do not work within the city of Chicago; just the suburbs and surrounding area.
We were introduced to Chris last month through an Angie's List Big Deal and he did such a great job, we made an appointment to have more work done. Chris replaced and installed two old exterior lights, and removed a screw-in light sensor that had oxidized and was stuck to the contact. He gave us tips about the kind of fixtures to purchase and we're thrilled with our new LED dusk-to-dawn lights. He also caulked around them to protect the fixtures from water damage and explained how the installer of one of the old fixtures had failed to ground it. Chris loves what he does and it shows. He called the day before to confirm the appointment and on the day of to let us know he was on the way...and showed up exactly on time. He loves to teach as it relates to the job at hand and if you're a willing to be a student, you'll learn quite a lot. A pro's pro...you won't find better!

He previewed the wiring in the attic before beginning which gave him a good overview of the project before he opened up any plates. We were THRILLED with him and his work and feel very confident that the wiring is well-done. We plan to ask him back to add outlets to the basement. NOTE: he arrived about an hour later than originally scheduled as he had a long-time customer call with an urgent problem. I appreciated that he let us know and kept us updated on his progress. I'm glad to know that if we have a problem, I can call him and get a quick response! Even though he arrived late, he stayed late to complete our work. NOTE: He described what he planned to do and why he planned to do it in that manner. I found that very helpful as well. NOTE: We did wait for about 6 weeks to get on his schedule and IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT to get the job done well. NOTE: I felt very comfortable having Chris in the house all day.
Description of Work: Chris installed 4 ceiling fans with lights, including running wire for the fans from our wall switch so we can have 1 switch for the light and 1 switch for the fan, in 2nd floor bedrooms.

Basically, he charged me $120 to tell me what needed to be done for my new stove and a couple of outlets. He called to set up a date to do the work at around 8pm but I was at a social engagement and couldn't speak with him. When I called him back he asked me to take a picture of the fuses in the electrical panel and send the photo to me. I called again a second time and he said he was all booked up and couldn't do the work for about 3 weeks. Although he said he could possibly stop by in the next 2 to 3 days I was unable to wait that long so I hired another electrician to do the work. he never showed up anyway. Although he was very nice, I would not use him again.
Description of Work: He identified each circuit breakers in the panel. he had told me he would do all for the $79 fee. He only finished 1/2. He looked at a couple of outlets and told me which ones needed replacing. He looked at a new stove and told me what electrical work needed to be done in the circuit box. He took out a special light bulb and was going to replace it next time he came back to do the work. He never returned and I have no idea what kind of a light bulb he took out and left. When I called him to finish what he had started , he said he was too busy.

Sorry you had a negative experience, furthermore, sorry the second one hired never showed up. The bulb is a common Halogen T3 150 watt bulb. We informed you of the addition hourly cost up front – and, at the 2-hour point. You agreed to have us continue, moreover, some of the additional 40.00 incurred was in parts. You originally hired us to install a 30-amp electric stove circuit. We showed up on time, and got to work on your addition list, The helper ran around your large multi – level home with a circuit finder, and yes we did half the panel. We also REPLACED numerous broken receptacles too. I informed you that there was no room left in the panel to add the stove, but could get safely creative with an abandoned dryer circuit. Not sure which electrician asked for the picture of the panel, but it was not us. We had called you for the second appointment schedule several times, the final call, I personally spoke to you, and you said “ your card game was more important”. I work very hard to provide a low cost – personal service. I take pride in my work, and assumed you were not looking to have the work done. When you called back, I gave you a date that would appropriately and SAFELY allow the work to be done, you declined. I am Licensed and Insured, we are still willing to do the work, but not willing to jeopardize your safety or my credentials to accommodate a quick install.
Chris was very thorough and explained all the details to us. He did a great job replacing some of our light fixtures and ceiling fans. He also updated some of our old outlets to the newer decora style. We recently bought our house and the previous owner was a DIYer. He messed up some of the electrical work and Chris was able to fix it. We did the electrician for a day deal because we have so much electrical work that needs to be done. We had Chris come back again for another full day to replace more lights. And we will be calling him back again to come back to install some additional lights. Chris is a very hard worker, a good communicator, and very friendly. Will definitely hire him again.

It was a bit tough scheduling with Chris, but totally worth it. He clearly prided himself on his professionalism. I had two pendant lights that were incorrectly installed. He explained what he was doing and how what he was doing was correct, versus the way the previous person had tried to do it. He noted that he left things prepped for a drywall installer to make their job easier. When the drywall installer came, he was surprised and pleased that Chris had done that. If he remains as busy as he is, which I suspect he will, he needs to hire a scheduler, that was the only frustrating part.

Chris arrived at about 3PM started on my list. I had added a more difficult piece that included taking a wall switch and connecting it to the overhead fan. That required he work in the attic. While up there he also inspected the wiring and let me know that it looked good. As this is an older home it had been a concern of mine about the wiring.
Description of Work: Chris did a great job in the installation of a light fixture and the more difficult task of changing a switch in the wall to access the overhead fan. He worked late into the evening until it was done and I would definitely hire him for electrical work again.

Let's start by saying that I purchased the 2 hours for $79 to install two new power outlets in the living room ceiling for a projector screen and projector. Chris showed up on time and took a look in my attic to evaluate the work needed to install the outlets. After about 35 minutes he brought his gear in to work. This was my first mistake, as I should have asked Chris for an estimate on time and cost for this work up front. After several hours of work in my attic which included cutting the holes for the outlets, Chris came down and informed me that he had to come back the next day due to another job he had to do that night. I was confused by this as I thought the work would be done that day. He informed me that this was a BIG job and that it would take a while to complete (something I wished I had known from the start of the job). Chris stated that there was no way of knowing that this would be a big job up front, and that he's been doing this for 15 years and that he does the job right the first time. I find it difficult to believe that if you've been doing this for 15 years, you are unable to evaluate a job up front and can't tell if a job is big or small. He asked me if I wanted to leave it in the state it was (holes in the ceiling) and check with other electricians, and I said no. I asked Chris how much work is left and he tells me about 3 more hours, as he was going to bring a family member to help him with the work. The next day Chris arrived and started unpacking his gear while waiting for his help. After almost an hour, it was clear that his help was not going to come so he begins working. At the 3 hour mark I asked Chris how much longer would he be (as cost had become a concern and it was late in the evening). He stated that he would try to get done as soon as possible but he does things the right way and that is why he doesn't rush through anything. I guess he took that as I was unsatisfied with his work, because he finished up about an hour or so later with unsatisfied results. Neither outlets were flush against the ceiling (I wish I could share pictures) and I explained to Chris that it looks terrible. He said he got the feeling that I wanted him out, so he rushed to get it done. I explained that I wanted the job done right and that no other outlet in my home had an outlet that wasn't flush against the wall, and I expected the same with the outlets he was installing. He took the outlet plugs out and proceeded to use a 2 x 4 and a hammer to force the outlet box further into the ceiling in order to make it flush, and in the process of doing that he damaged my ceiling. He was nice enough to at least knock off 1 hour off his cost for the damage. Chris needs to also work on his efficiency, as he had to go back and forth from my home to his van numerous times to recover items he needed. I couldn't give Chris an F simply because the electricity does work from the outlets, however the actual plugs are loose which my projector installer noticed right away. If the job was too big or the conditions in the attic were too difficult to complete the job in a timely manner, I would think that would be obvious from the beginning and would be communicated to the customer. Sadly this was not the case. If you have to use Chris, make sure that you get an estimate for the job upfront before work begins. But I could not recommend him to anyone. Update: As I stated stated before, I expected the job of putting in two outlets to be completed in a day. I don't think it's unreasonable for a customer to expect to be told up front that it would take 2 days to complete. I don't believe when you're several hours into day 2 that it's unreasonable for the customer to ask you and quot;how much longer Chrisand quot;. I do not believe that is badgering to ask someone whom I'm paying by the hour when you will be done. When you said to me that you were and quot;doing me a favorand quot; by coming back the next day to complete your work, I stated to you that and quot;when I'm paying you, you are not doing me any favorsand quot;. I explained on the phone before you set foot in my home that it's an Attic in the month of August, so I'm unsure how someone with 15 year experience would be clueless that it was hot. I could be wrong, but I suspect that there are not many electricians who wouldn't know that an attic gets hot in August. After you cut holes into my ceiling and told me you had to come back the next day I asked you when you would return, and you said that you could come at 10:30am. The next day I received a call from you at 10:22am (call logs from cell phone don't lie) saying you're still at another job and that you can't be here until late in the afternoon. Never at any point did you say that coming to complete your unfinished job was and quot;NOT A GOOD IDEAand quot;. I needed the job completed for my son's birthday party, and you were willing to take my money. As a professional I would expect you to not schedule your appointments as to not have to work 24 hours straight. When fatigue sets in, that is when mistakes are made. Considering that I was on the tail end of that 24 hour cycle, now I'm even more concerned about the work that was done. Considering all the and quot;Firstsand quot; that you apparently ran into putting in two ceiling outlets, I have to question the amount of experience you truly have. Anyone reading these reviews and responses will know the and quot;caliberand quot; of the person writing them. But if nothing else is clear, all you have to understand is that it cost me $600 ($300 each for two outlets) to put in 2 outlets. One of which resulted in damage to my ceiling. Numbers don't lie Chris. For everyone else..... Choose wisely.

The first 35 minutes were spent in your attic – that was over 100 degrees and averaged that both days, in the most blown in insulation I have EVER seen – 36- 40 inches deep in most spots, that I had to CRAWL through for the entire job. The first and closest outlet to be installed was well over 35 feet away from the attic crawl hole. In addition, I clearly explained to you that there was a heating duct that ran right down the middle of your attic – and that BOTH of your new ceiling outlets were on the OTHER SIDE OF. It was a large (tall and wide) duct that had to be CAREFULLY crawled over each time to access the multiple stages of work to be done while installing everything from scratch - including the different tools too.. I personally explained to you the obstacles I faced on the 1st two hour day. I further explained the approximate time to be spent – if a cousin – who also has his own jobs – could help, vs if I was on my own, apparently, you never conferred with your wife. Moreover, I stayed past midnight (another first) because you claimed it was for a child’s party. Towards the end of the evening – that I said WAS NOT A GOOD idea to start at 430 pm - but you insisted. Both you and your wife began badgering at me to hurry up - literally! When I said I did you a favor by coming at the end of my already scheduled day – against my better judgment, you said “ doing me a favor would have been doing everything for free” showing the caliber of person you are. I was fast approaching my 24th straight hour of work – demonstrating my caliber of person and commitment. Even with the already multiple firsts – ever, the badgering was both absurd and unprofessional on both your parts, I can not even begin to describe the karma, as I have NEVER experienced it in my life . The first hour was not spent hanging out, I set up spools of wire in your 100 degree attic, and bent pipe needed for the run. The final hour spent under these conditions, again too many firsts to mention (yes, 15 plus years), was still doing the best I could – not that you deserved it, it’s just my caliber. If they were loose, it was because I was dead tired, sweat through 3 of my extra shirts, and my hands were just this side of numb.

Anyway, he and I agreed it was best to not schedule the service so I could locate some other provider that could get to this work promptly. And he indicated to get the $79 deal back I needed to contact Angies List directly and here I am.
Description of Work: Chris was great. I outlined the work required and one portion of the job was to install a generator transfer switch. Chris and I spoke and he indicated they had 1 person on their crew ideal for that work, but he was booked solid for months. The other person (I believe Chris himself) wasn't comfortable doing so. Same reason I am not installing myself, attaching to live power feed from ComEd is a little hairy! Funny.

Sorry the person you bought the house from did not make the generator company install that transfer switch, it was definitely part of the original package - but the most Important component. Believe we could have read the print and probably installed it. Please try to understand that we would have then been assuming responsibility for the entire job too. That could have back fed Com Ed and seriously injured anyone who came in contact with any other improperly installed components. Hope you were able to make contact with them.

See above. I had to initiate three calls to make sure we were confirmed and that Chris was still providing service after he was late. I needed to cancel when his estimated time would be nearly four hours later than our appointment. Sorry, but I do not want to go through this again.
Description of Work: Provider did not call to confirm the day before. After being an hour late, I needed to see if we were still on. After another two hours, I called him back and left a message. Chris did call back 10 minutes later. Provider must be aware that if he cannot show up on time, he should call to notify clients. Especially if people take time off of work for his services. While Chris sounds like a good person, his business skills are lacking.

You called us the night before while we were still on a service call, long before the 9pm latest calls, that sometimes do go out. You then called several times before the 12-2pm-appointment arrival time the next day. You were informed that the plumber had left our customer a longer to do list then he expected – just the day before. We simply provided the personal customer service that 99% of all our customers enjoy and appreciate – including Angies List members. The additional 20 amp sump pump circuit did take a little longer, but when we called you at 3pm, citing we were stopping for an “en route to go lunch”, you declined our services. We strive to adhere to the 2 hour specials for our Angies list customers, however, we do provide personal service, and we would have done the same for you as well. We are truly sorry you had a negative experience.

You booked on the 11th - giving me your husbands contact info. We had made several attempts to contact him. After leaving a voicemail on a prior attempt, we finally did get a live voice, he was very rushed citing "he's out of town on business", and when confirming the address - we found that you have an old address listed on the Angies List certificate - further leading to a possible schedule problem from our tentative date of the 9/16 - but never heard back. We can provide cell records if you would like, but we are still willing to perform the work. I am unable to make repeated attempts while scheduling dozens of customers, it would make for even longer days.

When Chris arrived I explained that the electricity into the garage was not working. So he checked the breakers and the electrical charge exiting my home. He figured out that one of the wires located underground had broken. Since he told me that he is not licensed to do that work in Chicago the line was not repaired. However, Chris did tuneup my garage door. Even though he was not able to run a new wire to the garage, I still feel I got my money's worth. Prior to tuning the garage door the noise when the door went up was very loud. Now the door goes up smoothly and quietly.

We tried to explain that we are NOT drywall installers, and, that there really is a skill in doing it. You insisted the work be done for the outlet, however, a hole in the end was not an option. We explained that we were just doing an initial foundation for your painter or dry-waller to start with, and that it was going to be a ROUGH 1st draft - given the already poor condition of the wall prior to the install. I sincerely apologize you were not 100% happy with the outcome, if I slow down for the winter, perhaps I will attend a Home depot drywall workshop to improve, but Im am still performing a steady - 7 day a week schedule.

Response from Quality Residential Electric Inc
Thank you for the nice review, we really are diligently working on sharpening the response time weekly. However, my busy schedule is not the only one, and we have a system that maintains a first booked - first on the schedule policy that is often hindered by repeat communications in the duel busy schedules we all live in now days, including updates to address listings that we later find mandates going back to the geographical schedule drawing board. Im glad that you were satisfied though - that is what we strive for.

Chris came out and did an initial walk through. On the day of service I had him remove an old intercom system. After removing it the light in one of my rooms did not work. After a couple of weeks he came back out to fix the problem. I had also wanted him to remove ceiling lights and replace them with recessed lights. He was unable to complete this job without removing a significant amount of the ceiling drywall which made me uncomfortable. I have gotten a second opinion for that project.

Unfortunately, there was an old wire nut that may not have been tight, and I should have seen it, your town allows Romex, we are not a big fan of it, but accept the fact that it was in the same box, and will start checking them in the future. The lighting you are referring to typically does require around a 2 foot square cut - per fixture. The alternative is a pop in can that relies on the drywall to hold it up and in place, again - not a big fan. That is what the preceding installer did with the two cans in your kitchen that you also now want moved as they were not centered or lined with each other. We stand behind the original "strap type - that has to be screwed to the ceiling joist", allowing you to center and support it.

Spoke with Chris regarding power going out in my kitchen and bathroom. Ultimately it ended up being a situation where Comed needed to come out but I still wanted to provide a review. Chris was very knowledgeable, honest, and patient! Special emphasis on the patience portion since I know little about electrical work! I appreciate the fast responsiveness (considering the short notice) and will be giving Handyman and Sons a call should I need more extensive work in the future.
