Licensed and Insured Electrician. We accept all forms of payment. We troubleshoot electrical problems, and install new circuits and devices - no job too small or large. We are available 7 days a week at no extra charge. We do not work within the city of Chicago; just the suburbs and surrounding area.
Had appointment on 10/9 between 2-4, he called and said he would be there closer to 445. Took off work to be there from 2-4, by 545 my wife had to call and reschedule b/c he was still not there. Set an appointment for 415 on 10/14, didn't come until 630. Had a light fixture installed in our bathroom, there are holes where he drilled and patched up poorly, the light fixture was placed in a random spot on the wall (why not center it on the wall)?? After he left, I checked out the light fixture and it's extremely wobbly. Due to all the patching and holes, we will now have to contact someone to replace our drywall in the wall/ceiling and have someone else come out to replace the light fixture properly. Dust had to be cleaned up as well.

Great! Very thorough and knowledgeable of the products and was able to determine the problems with the new fixtures and explained what was done incorrectly with the old fixtures. One of the fans came with a switch that did not work, but was able to at least make the light mechanism work with the existing switch and he explained what would need to be done with the wall to get the newer larger remote switch to fit and work. Looking forward to hiring to come back to finish the job when the replacement part arrives.

Chris is amazing. I could not recommend an electrician more than Chris and Handyman and Sons. We had an emergency issue where our tenants were without power in areas of the apt building. The tenant had tried to flip the fuse box, but it kept shorting out. Not being an electrician, I didn't know how to solve it. I found Chris through Angie's list can called due to his high rating. It is clear why. He responded quickly, listened to the problem, was very candid and honest about potential costs and suggested a number of steps to check with the tenant before spending the $ on an electrician coming out. It turned out we needed to send someone because there was a real issue, Chris was able to provide an electrician out to the apt. the next day despite being incredibly busy. He also suggested that I use the coupon on Angie's list to save me some money. Tom is employee went to the house and did a great job uncovering the problem which was a bad wiring job done by the former owner. Unfortunately, due to the extensive work that needs to be done, I will need to find a Chicago licensed electrician and pull permits. I would have loved for Chris/Tom to do the work. That said, Chris walked me through the process of how to get it done, what to watch out for when selecting a Chicago electrician, and was more than willing to speak with the contractor we go with to educate them on the issues and the work that needs to be done so we can save money. After everything, it was one of the best contractor experiences I have had. Chris cares about his customers and is 100% trustworthy professional. Thank you Chris/Tom for your help!

It took me a while to find the paperwork related to your service call. I have since began an electronic way of making notes and processing my receipts. According to my notes, we determined it was a significant cost savings to buy a like in-kind exhaust fan for your bathroom, and that I would swap out the guts. This can provide significant hourly savings, and in fact, has been working well for many years. Unfortunately, you disagreed, Further, you acted as if I was trying to make more money on you, as opposed to save you a fair amount of work and money. Most people appreciate when I give them a significant cost savings alternative, hope you found someone willing to do the work exactly the way you wanted it done.

I had talked on the phone with this electrician and he gave me the date and time he was available to come out. He was warned in advance that I have a 15 year old with autism and waiting at the house for extended periods of time is difficult for my son. This electrician said no problem and gave me a two hour window between 12-2pm. I had asked if he couldn't keep this time to text me so I could take my son swimming or the park. He said sure. I waited for two hours and he never showed up. I text him at 2:15 and asked him where he was, no response. I called him at 2:30pm and he never answered the phone. I called again at 3pm and he answered and said he was at another job. Soonest would be 4pm. My son was already cooped up for four hours and had been promised swimming and Donald's. Obviously I couldn't make him wait another three hours. Approximately fifteen minutes later, I text the electrician and said I wanted a full refund of my $129 since he was so unprofessional. Plus, he didn't honor his appointment time and just blew me off with not even a courtesy call knowing I had a severely special needs teen waiting. I do not trust this man in my house much less do any electrical work done by him anymore. I am also disputing this with Paypal and my charge card so I get my refund of $129 for services not performed. I now need to hire someone else to do my electrical work.

First, we agree 100%, we should've called you. On that note We sincerely apologize. Worth noting, we were not pool-side, we were working in an attic, that was an exception to every rule I've seen in most years. It was well over 100°, all the roof vents had been closed off, and I was significantly deep into the attic. I never like my phone to go to voicemail, but my smart phone went into over heat mode and was not usable. As with many trades, jobs do tend to run over, and I do try to schedule to the absolute best of my ability. Having said that, I never rush through any job just to get to the next one. It is an unsafe practice, and often where contractors can run into to trouble. I'm a little confused, because I would've made it shortly after the 2 o'clock cut off, but you had a significant amount of work that you needed done. I'm not sure how long you anticipated it taking. Unfortunately, you don't know the type of person I am, I would've gladly had my apprentice run the both of you over to the pool, while I began the work, and the apprentice would've helped finish. Sorry you had a negative experience, that is never my goal.

Chris was very friendly, easy-going, and professional. It is clear that he knows what he is doing, cares about his work, and wants to do things right. I think he is a trustworthy person and would hire him again. He also installs garage doors and he took extra time to give me advice and recommendations (at no charge). He seemed concerned about making sure my costs were not too high & I appreciated that.
Description of Work: Chris installed wiring in our attic to connect the light fixture to a wall switch in our 2nd floor bedroom. Then he replaced a ceiling fan (that was previously connected through a battery-operated remote) with a chandelier light fixture. He also patched the wall with piece of drywall & a first coat of mud.

I purchased this foreclosure that had electrical issues to the point where it failed inspections and I couldn't get top rated insurance. I bought the big deal from Angie's List just to see if it would work out. From the moment I met Chris, I liked his work right away. He was honest and diligent; those two character traits I can really appreciate. He came out to troubleshoot my electrical problem and found it after an hour. He corrected the problem and still had an hour to go. I was completely satisfied, so I brought him back for more electrical work including an installation of a Minka Aire ceiling fan in a 20 feet ceiling which required scaffolding, he also did removed a flourescant lamp and put pendant lights in my kitchen. He did more fans, switches and lights throuhout my home. I am bringing him back this fall for a basement finishing project. I understand that he arrives late when he gets tied up on other jobs. However, he always keeps me informed. I also understand that he brings his son with him to the job, hence, the name, "Handyman and Sons". I am perfectly okay with Chris and his team because he gets the job done and he gets it done right. I know that my basement will pass inspection because he knows the code.

Description of Work: I used the big deal of Handyman & Sons. He completed what he could do. Then I had a decent thing that needed to be done also but he said he doesn’t do that work. I just had someone call who is specking a new house, your system of low voltage co-mingled with 120 volt lighting came up. That is probably the single most in-efficient way of running lighting, in your case, you have 3 full floors of very sensitive control panels and control wiring, I do not work on or trouble-shoot interior low voltage systems. I did fix all the other problems however.

It went very well. Chris and his son were very nice, efficient and professional. They didn't leave a mess and were as helpful as they could be with getting things back to the best state possible. i would definitely call them again to do electrical work.
Description of Work: They installed a hanging light over my sink where there was previously just a can light. It required that they take down some drywall in order to remove the can and complete the wiring. they also put the drywall back up around the light, so I only needed to tape, patch and paint which was definitely a help.

I'm glad you're pleased with our work, thank you for the happiness award, please keep us in mind for future electric work.
Work done was excellent. The outlet and porch light function wonderfully. Although the handyman warned us over the phone before work started that a doorbell wiring problem could be time-intensive and not be easily resolved, he looked at it anyway. The wiring issue could not be resolved, but he actually worked past the allotted two hours withno extra charge. We would definitely hire Handyman and Sons again.

He spent, supposedly, the full 2 hours could not pinpoint the root cause of the issue. The issue seemed intermittent so he left. Then issue came back. He then called me stating that I best replace all those old circuit breakers that no one sells. Being a "Licensed Electrician", he cannot use non OEM parts which may not work. He then suggested that he would go on eBay to buy the 8 or so breakers that I need. Of course, the first 2 hours are gone, I also need to pay him additional labor charge of $95 or so per hour. All sounded like a fairy tale... How could a simple circuit breaker issue need more than 2 hours to fix ? So I called an electrician I used before (Scott Coash). He happens to sell electrical parts and stated Siemens is the company that bought out the original maker of my circuit breakers. And of course Siemens circuit breakers are compatible. He went there and within an hour, fixed the breaker and a bunch of other things for a total charge of $95 parts and labor included! Tenant was super happy. So my conclusion is Handyman and Sons are handymen that do not quite know electrical work. Use them for handyman work only Do not be fooled by the $79 for 2 hours value. I pretty much wasted $79 to learn this lesson.

First, I can say that when I showed up, you had purchased breakers from a big box store THAT WERE NOT Siemans, therefore - not compatible with your panel, most folks appreciate when they are advised of real safety issues that can start a fire - especially with your tenants having small children, you were perturbed. Judging by the rest of the bad electrical work you had done preceding me, you do not seem like the type of landlord that cares. I will not apologize for not agreeing to do something un-safe. The gray fading of their lights, was in part - due to the multiple NON-approved breakers arcing where they meet the bus-bar they are intended to snap on to. Along with a whole host of other dangerous issues - too many to mention, I hope your parts guy has awesome insurance, you may well need it. Worth noting to anyone reading, I passed a 4.5 hour license test, met my 8000 hours of trade related trade school requirements, and have many safe insurance and license ding free years behind me,and though I learn something new every week, I am very confident in what I do.
